I wasn't there, but I saw the VHS tape. They opened the wormhole for a few seconds.

Mr. Bennish figured out the problem while in a "heightened state of consciousness".

While open only for a few seconds, the scanners recorded all sorts of data; I was reviewing a copy.

The Oversight Commission was probably reviewing a copy as well.
