Chapter 2
InuYasha stepped closer to Akane, smirking.
"And I'll call you whatever I want, princess. Especially if it gets you all worked up like this." InuYasha said.
Akane's face turned an even deeper shade of red, and she clenched her fists at her sides.
"You're just trying to rile me up, you jerk! And I'm not a princess. I'm tough and strong. Just ask Ranma!" Akane says.
Inuyasha's smirk only grew wider at her anger. "Oh, really? So Ranma here can attest to your toughness, huh? Maybe I should ask him then."
InuYasha turned to look at Ranma, who had been watching the exchange quietly.
"Hey, Ranma. Your lady here says she's tough and strong. Is that true?" InuYasha asks.
Despite himself, Ranma couldn't help but chuckle at the exchange. He knew that Akane was tough, but he also knew that she could be a bit sensitive when it came to her femininity.
"Yeah, she's tough," Ranma said, crossing his arms.
"Maybe even a bit too tough sometimes. And she's definitely strong. She can hold her own in a fight, trust me." Ranma said.
Inuyasha raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued. He hadn't expected Ranma to actually confirm Akane's toughness. He turned back to Akane, a hint of newfound respect in his eyes.
"Well, I'll be damned," InuYasha muttered. "Looks like you are tougher than you look, princess."
Akane's cheeks flushed again, but she seemed a bit mollified by Inuyasha's words. "I told you I was tough. And I already told you, don't call me princess!"
Akane turned to Ranma. "Can you believe this guy, Ranma? Coming out here and making noise in the middle of the night, not to mention trying to get a rise out of me."
Ranma chuckled again, shaking his head at Inuyasha's antics.
"Yeah, he's a bit of a loudmouth," he admitted. "But he's also pretty tough. I wouldn't want to get on his bad side." Ranma says.
Ranma glanced at Inuyasha, wondering what he would say next.
Inuyasha smirked, his eyes gleaming.
"Damn right I'm tough," InuYasha said, puffing out his chest a little. "And I don't take crap from anyone, including a feisty little tomboy like you. So you better watch it, princess!"
Akane's irritation flared again at being called a princess, but she managed to bite her tongue. Instead, she huffed and crossed her arms, shooting Inuyasha a glare.
"You're lucky Ranma's here, or I'd teach you a lesson." Akane said.
Inuyasha barked out a laugh.
"Is that a threat, little tomboy?" InuYasha taunted, his smirk growing wider. "I'd like to see you try."
Meanwhile, a black-haired human girl wearing a white and green school uniform was silently watching the conversation from a distance, unseen by the others. She had a thoughtful expression on her face as she listened to the exchange between Inuyasha, a boy, and a girl.
Ranma and Inuyasha were too preoccupied with their banter to notice the newcomer observing them from a distance.
Akane, still annoyed with Inuyasha's behavior, continued to glare at him.
"You think you're so tough, huh? Well, don't tempt me. I've beaten plenty of arrogant jerks who thought they were better than me!" Akane said.
The black-haired human girl couldn't help but chuckle to herself a bit at the girls threat. She quietly moves closer, still remaining unnoticed by the others.
Once Kagome was close enough, she finally spoke up in a cheerful tone.
"My, my, what do we have here? It looks like someone's ruffled this girls feathers a little bit.
A smirk appeared on Kagome's face as she looked at Inuyasha, amused by the situation.
Ranma and Akane both turned to look at the newcomer, their conversation interrupted by her intrusion. Akane's irritation melted away a bit as she took in the stranger's friendly demeanor, while Ranma's eyes widened in surprise.
"Who the hell are you?" Ranma asked, glancing between the newcomer and Inuyasha.
Kagome smiled brightly, not bothered by Ranma's blunt question.
"I'm Kagome Higurashi. It's nice to meet you both." Kagome then turns her attention to Inuyasha, her smirk widening.
"Looks like you've made some new friends, huh, Inuyasha?" Kagome smiled.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, his expression still grumpy.
"Yeah, I suppose I have," InuYasha muttered.
"These two are Ranma and Akane. And we were just in the middle of a little argument when you showed up." InuYasha said.
InuYasha then crossed his arms and gave Kagome a knowing look. "And just what are you doing out here, anyway?"
Kagome let out a little laugh as she noticed Inuyasha's grumpy expression. She knew him all too well.
"I was just passing through the area and I heard all the noise. I was curious to see what was going on." Kagome said.
Kagome glanced at Akane and Ranma, her smirk returning. "It seems like I came at the right time. It's always entertaining to see Akane worked up."
Akane's irritation flared again at Kagome's words, and she scowled at the black-haired girl.
"Shut up, Kagome!" Akane muttered. "This is none of your business! And for the record, I was just defending myself from this loudmouth over here."
Akane gestured a thumb at Inuyasha.
Inuyasha shot a glare at Akane, his expression hardening.
"Hey, watch it," InuYasha warned. "Don't tell Kagome to shut up! She's my friend!"
Kagome nervously chuckled at the exchange, amused by the dynamic between the group.
"It's all right, Inuyasha," Kagome said, waving a hand dismissively.
"It's just harmless banter." Kagome said.
Akane huffed, but she didn't argue further. Instead, she turned her attention to Kagome, her irritation still simmering below the surface.
"Harmless banter, huh? I suppose you would know all about that." Akane said.
Kagome couldn't help but chuckle again at Akane's comment. She took no offense to the girl's attitude, knowing that it was just another one of her quirks.
"You know me all too well," Kagome said, still smiling. "But seriously, don't worry about Inuyasha. He's harmless...mostly."
Inuyasha grumbled at Kagome's words, not appreciating being referred to as "harmless". "Hey, I'm not harmless," InuYasha protested. "I'm a hanyo, not a puppy dog!"
Kagome simply rolled her eyes playfully at Inuyasha's protest.
"Oh, come on, Inuyasha. You know I was just teasing. But let's be real, you're a lot softer than you like to admit." Kagome says.
Inuyasha's ears flattened, and he let out a huff. "I am not soft!" InuYasha muttered, but his protest was weak and unconvincing.
Ranma and Akane both chuckled at the back-and-forth between Inuyasha and Kagome.
Ranma couldn't help but find the exchange between Inuyasha and Kagome amusing. It was clear that they had a playful dynamic between them, even if the hanyo tried to deny it.
Akane, meanwhile, couldn't help but add her own two cents in.
"Looks like someone's got Inuyasha wrapped around their finger," Akane teased, shooting a sly grin at Kagome.
Kagome giggled at Akane's words, clearly amused by the comment.
"Oh, trust me, it's not always a one-way street. Inuyasha gives as good as he gets." Kagome said.
Kagome glanced at the half-demon, a cheeky smile on her face.
"Right, Inuyasha?" Kagome smiled.
Inuyasha glowered at Kagome, but there was a hint of a smirk on his face.
"Don't get too cocky, Kagome! InuYasha muttered. "I've got plenty of comebacks for you, and you know it!
Kagome laughed loudly at Inuyasha's comment, clearly enjoying the banter.
"Oh, I'm sure you do. But let's not forget that I've known you longer than anyone else here. I know all your tricks, Inuyasha." Kagome softly spoke.
As Shampoo came across the group, her eyes widened at the sight of the newcomer, InuYasha, and Kagome. She approached them with a curious expression on her face.
"Shampoo see new faces," Shampoo said in her broken English.
"Who you?" Shampoo pointed to InuYasha and Kagome, her eyes studying them curiously.
"You newcomers. What names?" Shampoo asks.
Kagome smiled at Shampoo, her expression friendly and welcoming. Inuyasha, on the other hand, simply rolled his eyes at the newcomer.
"I'm Kagome," Kagome answered. "And this here is my friend Inuyasha. What is your name?"
"My name Shampoo. " Shampoo smiled. "And who is you friend name?"
Inuyasha's ears flattened slightly as he listened to Shampoo's broken English. He raised an eyebrow, looking at her with a mixture of confusion and disbelief.
"Why the hell does she talk like that!?" InuYasha muttered, mostly to himself. "And what is she, a foreigner?"
Kagome shot Inuyasha a warning look, silently telling him to be polite.
"Be nice," Kagome whispered to him. "She's probably just not very good at speaking English. Don't be judgey."
Kagome then turned her attention back to Shampoo, her smile still in place.
Shampoo didn't seem to notice Inuyasha's subtle criticism. She simply looked from Kagome to Inuyasha, a smile on her face.
"You two good friends?" Shampoo asked, her accent still thick.
Kagome nodded, still smiling gently.
"Yes, we are. We've been friends for quite some time now." Kagome glanced over at Inuyasha, silently daring him to make another snarky comment.
Inuyasha grunted in agreement, trying to keep his smartass comments to himself for the moment. He knew that Kagome wouldn't appreciate it if he said anything rude.
"Yeah, we're friends," InuYasha muttered, still giving Shampoo a skeptical look.
Shampoo's eyes lit up with interest as she heard Inuyasha speak. She stepped closer to him, her eyes roaming over his features.
"You have interesting face," Shampoo said, reaching up and touching his cheek. "And you not human, yes?"
Inuyasha's ears pressed back at Shampoo's touch, and he swatted her hand away from his face.
"Hey, watch it," InuYasha growled. "And of course, I'm not human. I'm a hanyo, half-human, half-youkai."
