Months went by and no one had heard anything from Ben. No calls. No messages. Nothing encrypted. Everyone's worries only grew. What could have happened to him? One day, however, things changed after the Millenium Falcon made a well welcome appearance and landed gracefully in the newly fixed runway. Han was the first to greet Lando and Chewbacca as they exited.
"If it isn't my old buddy, Han," Lando said, giving him a handshake.
"Lando, Chewy," he exclaimed as his old friend roared in happiness, "It's been a while."
Chewy growled and roared in excitement.
Lando looked around and said, "Looks like the cleanup efforts did a great job here. This place is already back to looking new. This last shipment should be all you need to make it shine again and it's as if it never happened."
"The First Order sure knew where to hit to cause the most damage," Han replied, "how was the landing? Any of them swarm you on the way in?"
"You're not going to believe it," Lando replied, "but it looks like they've retreated from this part of the galaxy for now. Things are all quiet up there." He gestured to the sky.
Chewy roared and growled.
"Is that why you're here?" Han asked.
"Welcome back!" Leia called as she made her way across the runway, "Sorry I didn't meet you right at touchdown but duty calls. It's great to see your two ugly faces again."
"Same to you, Senator," Lando said.
Han said, "Leia, according to Chewy the First Order are now all over Kashyyyk."
"They're everywhere but here," Lando reiterated.
Confused, she asked, "They're not occupying our space anymore?" They shook their heads and Chewy growled again. She shook her head and added, "They can't be planning anything good."
"It must be something big," Lando said.
At the same time across the city, Annika, Rey, and Anakin entered the Skywalker home after training inside the jedi temple all day. Through the windows the view showcased the capital city's waterfalls perfectly. Luke and Mara waited impatiently for their return.
"Annika, Rey," Luke said, "go upstairs, the adults are going to talk." He gestured to the ceiling.
"About what?" Annika asked.
"Upstairs," he reiterated, pointing to the stairs.
Rey made her way to the steps as Annika said from the doorway, "It's about Ben isn't it. Is something wrong? Has he called yet? What did he say? Don't keep it from me!"
Mara pointed to the steps, "Go, Annika! We'll talk more later."
Annika ushered Rey up to the top of the stairs and hid out of sight, but within earshot of everyone talking downstairs.
With them gone, Anakin sat down with them at the table and asked, "What's causing both of you to be so tense?"
"It's Ben," Luke answered, "he still hasn't called or sent any messages, so I tracked his coordinates on his communicator and he's definitely not on Onderon anymore. We have no idea which system this is. Do you?" He brought up a hologram map of the galaxy that showed what system Ben was in.
"You're sure that is where is he!?" Anakin asked in horror.
Mara asked, "What's wrong?"
"That is Zygerria," he paused, "you two don't know it?"
Luke asked, "No, what's the problem?"
Anakin said, standing up, "We need to get him out of there as soon as possible. Get a ship ready."
Mara said, "That planet isn't a part of the republic. They're not going to grant any of us entry!"
"Father, you have to tell us what the problem is," Luke insisted.
"Zygerria was once the center of a slave empire," he explained painfully, "and the jedi dismantled it long ago. During the clone wars the separatists restarted it and I have a feeling they're restarting it once more. No wonder they're only recruiting young people."
Mara gasped, "That's terrible."
Luke said, "We don't have evidence that's what's happened to Ben. We can't assume anything."
"I'm getting him out of there," Anakin said, storming out.
"Wait!" Luke chased after him with Mara right behind him.
Upstairs, Rey said, "This doesn't sound good, Annika."
"Come on we have to follow them and learn what they're going to do," she replied, hurrying down the stairs, "control your fear and my grandpa won't sense you. Let's go!" She ran out the door after them, Rey followed.
As Anakin made his way to the runway and starships, Luke said from right behind him, "The First Order is not going to let Republic ships land anywhere within their borders, especially now that they're considered legitimate."
Han, Lando, Chewy, and Leia turned to them the three of them practically running onto the runway. "What are you so hyped up about?" Leia asked.
"Ben is on Zygerria, ever heard of it?" Anakin asked.
"That's..." she paused to remember her old studies growing up, "that was an old slave colony a long time ago. Why would he be there?"
He answered, "We can't tell from here."
Lando asked, "What about that stormtrooper you told me surrendered to you a few months back? Wouldn't he know?"
At the temple, everyone stood outside Finn's door as he opened it awkwardly. "Hello everyone," he said, staring at all of them, weirded out, "is everyone alright?"
"Finn," Anakin said harshly, "what is the First Order doing on Zygerria?"
"They're mining it," he answered.
Anakin insisted, "It isn't a mining world."
Luke stepped forward and asked, "Finn, what did you and other storm troopers do when you're on Zygerria?"
He hesitated. "I was...in...sanitation."
Han said, "You were a janitor."
"Yes."
"You must know the area you were assigned well then," Mara said, "is that correct?"
"I mopped the entire base all the time," he said, "cleaned windows, bathrooms, scoured the place top to bottom. It shined because of me." He stopped himself from continuing. "Why are you asking about it?"
Leia explained, "We know Ben is there. Do you have any idea what he's doing or why they would send him there?"
"That's the largest base in the order," he said, "that have everything there from training facilities to building new ships to logistics. Everything is there. He could be assigned any task. It's impossible for me to know."
Luke pulled his father back and said, "See, this doesn't mean Ben was enslaved by anyone. He could be doing anything over there."
"He's still been out of contact too long," Anakin insisted.
"I agree with your father, Luke," Mara said, "it's obvious Ben can't contact us for whatever reason. We need to get him out of there and bring him home! This little experiment has run its course."
Chewy roared.
"I'm with him," Han said to Finn, "you're going to lead the way, pal."
"I can't go back!" Finn exclaimed, putting his hands up in defense, "They'll kill me for sure! No way!"
Anakin commanded, "You'll map out the base to the best of your knowledge for us." Finn nodded, terrified of what might happen if he misremembers anything.
Far behind them, Annika and Rey hid. Annika whispered, "This is only getting more exciting! Follow them!" She motioned for the two of them to follow behind them as they left out the front doors.
Inside Leia's office in the senate, Finn finished mapping out what he knew about the base. "This is the mess hall for the troopers," he pointed, "this area is where the new recruits sleep, over there is the runway for the shuttles, these are officer quarters."
Anakin asked, "What does the outside of the base look like?"
"I don't know," he confessed, "troopers weren't assigned outside tasks, that was for the First Order soldiers.
Anakin added, "So anything could be happening beyond those front doors, and you would have no idea."
Mara said, "That isn't as much information as I was hoping for."
"It's better than nothing," Leia assured her.
Han said, "Carry on, kid."
Finn explained, "These hallways in the back are a bit of a maze. No one really goes back there, as far as I know. It's easy to get turned around in that area if you do go there though." He zoomed in on the map. "I personally hated being assigned to clean that area."
"Why?" Luke asked.
"It's creepy back there," he said, "there's a dude chilling in a bacta tank over in this area." He pointed to the back hallways he didn't know lead to Snoke.
Lando asked, "What do you mean?"
"There's a guy who lives inside a bacta tank," he describes, "he's alive from what I can tell, but no one has ever seen him outside of it. I hated having to wipe down the outside of that tank all the time though." He shuttered.
Luke said, "I wonder where Ben is."
"There's only one way we're finding out," Anakin said, "I'm bringing him home."
Chewy roared at him.
"Chewy's right," Han said, "they're never going to allow one of our ships anywhere near that place and if we call Ben we could blow his cover."
Lando suggested, "We can paint a First Order insignia on the Falcon and claim we're shipping supplies to the base. We'll get there easy even if they use life scanners on it since having a live crew is normal in that part of the galaxy."
Han said, "We have leftover brick and mortor we didn't use, it could work. If they build things there they'll appreciate the free bricks and we'll be able to get in and out easy."
"That's technically considered a crime," Leia said.
"Relax," Anakin said, "no one is dying or being threatened while we're there. They'll get over it."
"Is that all that matters to you?" she asked.
"Leia," Luke said, "I'll go and get Ben back with him."
"I'm going too," Lando said, "I'm not letting Skywalkers fly my ships. I've seen what you two have done with yours!"
Leia said, "I have to stay here."
"I stay back too," Mara said, "someone has to be keep training the kids."
Outside the door listening in, Annika whispered excitedly, "Rey you should totally go with them! Think of the adventure!"
"Me?" she asked, "He's your brother, you go!"
"You're the one falling in love with him," she insisted.
Rey asked, "Is that what I'm doing?" She paused, "No! I barely know him and it's been months since I've seen or spoken to him. He's probably moved on by now."
"You don't know that," Annika said, "this is the perfect way to find out. Bring him home for both of us."
"Your dad and grandpa will notice me immediately."
"If you control your fear like you're doing now they won't," she said, "and if they get the hyperspace before they notice it'll be too much work to bring you back. You have to at least try!"
Rey nodded. "Fine, I'll do it."
They quickly surried away from the door as the group inside the office moved to leave. After some quick goodbyes to the families, it was decided Chewy, Han, Lando, Luke, and Anakin would go to Zygerria, unaware that Rey would stow away behind them.
