Chapter 64: Auf Wiedersehen, Meine Liebe

6th January 1991

Ludwig took his bag out the back of the yellow Niva. He had agreed to let the Prussian stay here for one more week before he had to come home. He still wasn't sure if he could trust the Russian but he was 50% sure he was harmless and his brother swore up and down that Ivan would never hurt him.

Ludwig just looked over at his brother worriedly before walking over to him. Leaving him alone in Russia felt so wrong.

'Thank you, take care now bruder and remember to call me the second you need me.' Ludwig smiled, pulling the smaller one into a hug.

'You take care too. Don't worry the awesome me will be back to keep your life fun in no time.' Gilbert laughed as he hugged back.

'Well, I better get my flight. Later.' Ludwig pulled away grabbing his bag again.

'Later West!' Gilbert smiled, waving until he was out of sight.

Getting back into the car he sped back to Russia's place. He considered stopping to grab some more shopping but he had told the Russian he wouldn't be long and he knew how much that idiot could worry.

As soon as his wheels hit the driveway he saw the door open and Ivan appear from behind it, the idiot had probably been waiting there for him the whole time. As soon as Gilbert stopped the car Ivan slowly made his way out of the house, using his pipe to balance as he still hadn't got his coordination or strength back fully.

However he had only gotten a few steps from the house when he slipped on some ice falling onto his back and hitting his head on the ground.

'Idiot!' Gilbert groaned as he ran over to help him up.

'You don't have to come greet me you know!' Gilbert said annoyed as he took the Russian's arm and draped it over his shoulder.

'I wanted to ask you to take me for a drive, I haven't been out of my house since a month ago.' Ivan said sadly as the Prussian pulled him to his feet and helped support him as he walked him inside.

As soon as they got to the living room Gilbert dumped him on the sofa before flopping down on it himself.

'I swear you are hopeless.' Gilbert laughed as he leaned his head on the Russian's shoulder.

'So? Will you take me out, even if we just drive around?' Ivan pleaded.

'I guess if you want too so badly it won't hurt and I do need to grab more shopping.' Gilbert sighed.

'Yay!' Ivan cheered as he pulled the Prussian into a hug.

'I should have gone home with West.' Gilbert joked.

'You're mean!' Ivan pouted and hit him playfully on the head with his pipe.

'What do you mean I'm mean? I have been your nurse this entire time!' Gilbert argued back, rubbing his head.

'Your so easy to make angry.' Ivan smiled sweetly.

'You know if you keep not being awesome, I am not going out.' Gilbert laughed.

Ivan went to hit him with his pipe again only for the Prussian to snatch it out his hands.

'Nooooo! Give it back!' Ivan complained as he tried to wrestle it from the Prussian

Prussia just held it out behind him just out of Ivan's arms reach, laughing his ass off as the Russian struggled to get it back. Normally the Russian would have overpowered him by now but because Russia was still very disoriented he was struggling to accurately aim his hands where the pipe was and Gilbert was going to milk it.

'Give it back NOW!' Ivan said frustrated.

'Only if you beg and plead, proclaim me the most awesome and worship me!' Gilbert laughed.

'I hate you!' Ivan pulled away and pouted burying his face in his scarf.

'Aw come on. Don't be pouty now. I was just playing.' Gilbert sighed, giving the Russian his pipe back.

The second it hit the Russian's hand he let out a big laugh and hit Prussia on the head with it again.

'Done now!' Ivan smirked.

'You asshole! You tricked me!' Gilbert grumbled.

'You took advantage of my injury to beat me, now we are even da.' Ivan said sweetly.

'Gott you are irritating. Come on, let's go out then.' Gilbert said getting up and holding his hand out to the Russian.

'Okay.' Ivan smiled, getting up and taking his hand.

Gilbert insisted he lean on him as they went to the car so he didn't fall again, after getting him inside he hopped into the driver's seat and started the car.

'Oops I think I left the keys in here.' Gilbert laughed.

'Good thing I live in the middle of nowhere isn't it?' Ivan shook his head.

'So any request on where to go?' Gilbert asked as the car warmed up.

'Can we go off road!' Ivan said excitedly.

'Seriously what's with you and off roading.' Gilbert sighed with a smile.

'Do you remember that path through the forest we went down in October before you left, can we go there?' Ivan asked.

'I think so… Alright then, are you ready to watch the awesome me do some awesome off-roading that will put you to shame!' Gilbert said cockily.

'YAY!' Ivan cheered.

Driving out to the forest, Gilbert turned onto the dirt path and started to hurl down it as fast as the car and terrain would allow him. Every so often looking over Ivan to check he was having fun, as he wasn't being as vocal as he normally would but the contented smile on his face showed he was indeed very happy.

Gilbert had to admit, for a 15 year old 4x4 it was doing very well and was still just a fun to drive. It was definitely showing its age though cosmetically. Ivan wasn't exactly the most careful driver so the car had various dents and scratches as well as a few chips and cracks on the windscreen. He did wonder how much longer Ivan would be allowed to keep driving around in this thing before his new Boss made him switch it out.

Sure the Russian economy was in the tank and basically no one was using the ruble anymore as a result but having the embodiment of your nation driving a banged up old car couldn't be a good look. Then again, with how much more Ivan seemed to love this car than any other he had owned, Gilbert had to wonder how much of a fight he might put up for it.

Finally getting to the small clearing that Ivan used to always stop at, Gilbert brought the car to a stop and pulled on the handbrake. Looking over at Ivan, surprised to find he had somehow fallen asleep since he last checked on him.

'How did you sleep through all of that, it was bumpy as shit.' Gilbert said surprised.

'Then again, I suppose you would still be pretty worn out after everything.' Gilbert sighed softly, leaving the engine on so the car's heater would keep the cabin warm, he got out and lit a cigarette.

'I am glad West never picked this habit up.' Gilbert sighed as he looked at the empty box in his free hand.

He probably should quit since he wasn't sure if he could die now but doing that was admitting he was possibly dying. Besides, he would probably die before any damage was done anyway if that was the case so who cared.

Just as he finished it he heard the sound of the car's door creaking over and the car shaking with a slam as the door shut. Gilbert looked over to find Ivan carefully making his way around the car to him, holding onto the car to keep balance.

'Can I have one?' Ivan asked, leaning on the quarter panel by Gilbert.

'Sorry, that's why my last one.' Gilbert explained.

'That sucks. I haven't got mine.' Ivan grumbled as he buried his face into his scarf.

'How you feeling anyway?' Gilbert asked softly as he pulled the Russian into a side hug.

'Much better, I liked the drive so much, I just don't want to fall again, it always hurts so much.' Ivan smiled softly as he leaned his head on Gilbert's shoulder.

'That's because your so big and fucking heavy.' Gilbert mocked.

'I am just big boned you asshole.' Ivan pouted, poking Gilbert hard in the side of the face as a form of revenge.

'Hey, you know, me and West are going on holiday to Italy this summer. If you and him can find a way to get along, I would love for you to join us.' Gilbert smiled softly.

'Will there be a beach?' Ivan said in awe.

'It's Sardinia so of course.' Gilbert laughed.

'Then I will become best friends with your brother!' Ivan said excitedly, hugging the Prussian tightly.

'Aiming a little high there don't you think? Just getting along will do just fine. West is a little bit of an introvert, trying to become his best friend might just kill him. You can be very overbearing, you know.' Gilbert scoffed with a smiled.

'Your brother is so high strung, he reminds me of Lithuania.' Ivan said sadly.

'Nah he is way cooler than Lithuania, that guy is fucking weird.' Gilbert argued.

'You only hate him because he kicked your ass a lot.' Ivan laughed.

'Um no. I hate him because he is all lame and not fun. The awesome me never loses, just tactically retreats.' Gilbert snarked.

'I miss everyone, it's so cold and quiet in my house now.' Ivan said sadly.

'You should get a dog or something, it will help.' Gilbert said softly.

'Who would look after it when I go away, my Bosses never give me much warning when I get taken away.' Ivan sighed.

'I guess you're right.' Gilbert said sadly.

'I should make a recording of you talking so I can play it when I get sad.' Ivan said, rubbing his face on Gilberts.

'That's kind of creepy you know, you could just phone me.' Gilbert sighed.

'However if you wanted to so badly, I could record myself reading some pages out of my awesome diary and send them to you.' Gilbert smirked.

'I would like that alot, can you read the ones about me and you?' Ivan said excitedly.

'Sure thing but you might not like what past me had to say.' Gilbert laughed softly.

'I don't care, you love me now don't you?' Ivan said hopefully.

'Ugh, you're so needy, of course I do. Why else would I be freezing my ass off out here right now.' Gilbert said with fake annoyance, he didn't really mind at all.

Such a strange man he had fallen in love with indeed.

Gilbert stayed a few more days to be sure Ivan was okay before booking a plane back home to Germany. Ivan had driven him to the airport and was now standing there sadly as he got his bag out the car.

'You promise to call me every night?' Ivan said nervously.

'How many times do I have to say yes.' Gilbert said annoyed as he placed his bag on the floor and walked up to the Russian.

'I am going to miss you so much.' Ivan said as he began to cry.

'Gott your such a baby. We won't be apart for long okay? There's a meeting at the end of the month so you better show up this time.' Gilbert laughed softly as he pulled the Russian into an embrace.

'I love you idiot so don't forget it.' Gilbert smirked as he kissed Russia, Ivan melting into him as soon as their lips touched.

'I best go before I miss my plane and West murders me.' Gilbert sighed softly as he pulled away.

'Auf Wiedersehen, meine Liebe.' Gilbert smiled sadly as he picked up his bag and gave a little wave to the Russian.

'Prashay, moya lyubov.' Ivan sobbed out as he waved crying harder.

'Always a crybaby.' Gilbert laughed to himself as he walked through the airport doors.

It wasn't so bad leaving, he knew he would see Ivan soon and they would talk every night. Still didn't stop the Russian trying to make him stay all morning, he really was just a big sappy child under all the scariness he leaked with.

Then again, Gilbert hated to admit it but he was kind of a big softy for the Russian deep down. Although you would never hear him say it out loud. He only hoped he indeed wasn't dying so they could have more time together.
