Streetlamps illuminated a small field on the side of the road. Nico swept past me, slashing at the beast that was heading my way. I sat on top of a Tiffany blue Chevy truck… like an absolute idiot. Dates were fun. Dates were great. And don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them—until a monster attack ruins your once-a-month date. One date outside of camp per month. "Don't want to attract too many monsters," said Chiron. Which I get. I have seen the injuries, but still… I have been inside camp so long. Everything seems so bright and shiny, and… I want to be out there.

Either way, here I am with my boyfriend. I watch as he expertly slices down the centaur. Why the centaur didn't shoot me, I don't know. I'm an easy target perched up here.

Monsters start filing in, surrounding him. I must do something, but alas I'm a healer, not a fighter. And my dumb ass didn't bring a weapon.

The shockingly old truck has had the inside refurbished, so it is more new than old. Where the stereo goes, one of those new-fangled iPads is sit there. I need to get into it for what I want. When I get back, I will have to thank Leo and the Hermes cabin for insisting I learn other things. I do a crappy "hacking" job that mostly involves tricking the car with radio signals.

Suddenly, I play "Bamboleo" by the Gipsy Kings. It's that one Spanish song that always gets played in movies during dance scenes. I get that Nico is Italian and not Spanish, but it's just a good dance song. Nico seems to get what I am doing.

Follow my train of thought closely. Since these monsters ruined our date night, why not turn this into our date? I was looking forward to having a normal date like a normal teenager for once so might as well make due with the scenario. Also, I am so close to losing my shit since I can't really do anything to help until the battle is done. I am sure that we have seen more monsters than these, but it doesn't make it any less scary.

He spins around in tune with the music. It's still the beginning, so it's slower. The monsters are confused by this sudden change in fighting style.

"Ben-de-lein, ben-de-lein, ben-de-lein Bein, ben-de-lein, ben-de-lein"

He starts picking up pace, ready for the beat drop.

"Bamboleio, bamboleia Porque mi vida yo la prefiero vivir así"

The second it gets to "bamboleia," he jumps and slices off four of their heads. He's twirling so fast I can't keep track. I creep out of the car to watch better and to make sure that, if worst comes to worst, I can warn him. All of a sudden, he's by me, grabbing my waist, with piles of monster dust at our feet.

The dust is kicked up from our feet dancing together. It trails us, stars dancing within it as moonlight shines just right on our shadows. The song slows to a stop. I lean my head on his shoulder, content.
