Chapter 1

Elizabeth was making Christmas cookies for her students. It was 20 days till Christmas and she couldn't be more happy. That also meant that it was 19 days till her son's 5th birthday. She was daydreaming about his birthday until she heard a knock on the door.

"Oh, what a surprise this is!"

"Hi sweetheart" Nathan replies. Elizabeth welcomes him in since it is super cold out there.

"Oooh, whatcha making?" Nathan asked.

"Omg your sweet tooth is the cutest thing ever." Nathan smiled from that comment.

"I'm making Christmas cookies for my students. They have been asking me to make them for a while and I have kinda been procrastinating." Nathan gave her a little smirk. Elizabeth knew what he was going to ask next.

"Well… since you're making some for Allie and her friends, I guess it wouldn't be hard to make me some too…" Nathan had a flirtatious look on his face. Elizabeth giggled. She has always loved the little sweet tooth Nathan had.

"Hmmm… I can make you some, but you'll have to pay."

"And what would that me Mrs. Thornton…" Nathan asked curiously.

"I suppose I can give you a discount. How about a kiss?" Elizabeth had a sweet look on her face. "I don't know if you'll be able to handle it though…" She added

"Oh. I'm pretty sure I can handle it." Nathan put his arms around her waist and bent down for a sweet and simple kiss.

"I love you Nathan. You have no idea how much you mean to me. I hope you know that." Elizabeth combed her fingers through his hair while he was still holding her by her waist.

"I love you too Lizabeth. You are my world." Elizabeth reached up and kissed him again but this time with more passion.

"Do I deserve my cookies?" Nathan asked curiously.

"Yes you do. You did an excellent job."

Elizabeth grabbed some icing from her bowl and dotted some on his nose. Elizabeth giggled while Nathan gave her the side eye but not in a mean way.

"I should have known better." Nathan grabbed some on his finger and put some on her nose.

"Nathan Grant!" Elizabeth said with a giggle to her tone.

"Hey, now we are even." Elizabeth shook her head and laughed. She walked over to her drawer and got a washcloth. She walked up to Nathan and gently scraped the icing off his nose. She did the same for herself too.

"There, much better. Anyways, I should be down making these cookies later today. If you want me to, I can deliver these to you." Nathan smiled. He loved how much she cared.

"Oh that'll be great. Would you be able to drop them off at my office? I just have some paperwork to do." Nathan asked and she nodded in return.

"Well, this has been a lovely lunch break." Nathan says on his way out the door.

"Yeah it has been…" Elizabeth replies with a little sadness to the end of her sentence.

"Sweetheart, is everything okay?" Nathan looks at her with some worry in his face.

"Yeah, everything is great. I'll see you later." Elizabeth responds a bit too soon.

Okay… bye. I love you!" Nathan says hoping to get a response from her.

"I love you too Honey." Elizabeth says while closing the door.

Elizabeth walked into town with her cookies in her basket looking around at all of the holiday joy. She gave off a little smile.

"Hi!" Elizabeth says while Nathan looks up from his paperwork.

"Hey." Nathan stands up and gives her a sweet simple kiss.

"Were you okay earlier? You didn't seem quite like yourself." Elizabeth nodded and handed him his cookies. He grabbed a cookie out of the basket and tried one.

"Oh my goodness Lizabeth. These are delicious!" Nathan says while munching down. "Your students are going to love these cookies."

"I hope so." Elizabeth replies with a smile to her face. They talked for a couple of minutes before Elizabeth says she has to leave.

"Umm I'll see you later?" Nathan asked while tucking a piece of her hair behind her hair.

"Yeah you will be" Elizabeth says happily, but Nathan knew something was still bothering her.
