Chapter 37. Merry Kissmass

It was very early in the morning. And the sky was still dark. The Northern lights were almost invisible now due to the clouds covering the sky.

Everyone in Arendelle was still at their homes resting or just waking up. The streets were desert and shops closed still.

In a few stablishments there were pieces of wood and tools that people were using to fix the damage of the recent fire.

Everything would be quiet if it weren't for the lonely septs of someone walking.

There was someone awake at this hour. But no one had been witness of it. The person was covered in a dark cloth hiding it's face to the possible eye.

In this darkness the only light came from a single place at the end of the market. And the single person, that had avoided successfuly to bee seen entered the small shop.

"Ah, a customer." The voice of the owner said with a harsh voice. The owner of the shop was a bulky scary man with lots of tattoos in bis body. He was the type of person that would not question the identity of his clients.

The misterious customer didn't respond as expected. Just took out a small paper and showed it to be owner of the shop.

"Ah, they'd say you'd come." The onwer said. "Hold on."

The man disappeared behind a door as the customer just waited steady.

After a few minutes passed the bulky man returned with a big a big red bag.

"Here it is."

The silent customer reached to grab the bag but the bulky man took it away almost immediately.

"Hold on." He said. "I want to see the money first." He added.

The covered client didn't reply. But then threw a small bag to the table. When it hit it the little bag opened revealing the contents of golden coins.

"Not bad." The shop owner said. "But, that won't be enough. I would need at least three of those little bags. After the fire the price of these increased exponentially and they were not easy to find on the last minute."

The customer reminded silent. As it showed again the little paper.

"Fine!" The shop owner replied. "Make it two you cheap."

A second bag of coins was thrown to the table. Which the bulky man took quickly before the misterious customer changed its mind.

The man gave the silent customer the red bag and spoke.

"It was a pleasure to make business with you."

The client didn't respond as it carried the bag with both hands as it turned it's back to leave the shop.

"Send the Salvatore bothers my regards." The man from behind added. "Any friend of theirs is also my friend."

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

Kristoff entered the stables yawning and rubbing one of his eyes. We would do anything to go back to sleep but today it was Christmas Eve and that meant he had to help out the ice harvesters to bring a new Crhsitmas tree for the plaza gathering this afternoon. And that also meant he needed to prepare his sleigh for Santa.

The Council and Anna had came up with this crazy idea that one victim would need to dress as Santa Claus and give a way presents to the people.

And Santa needed a sleigh. Kristoff sighed. Why did it had to be his sleigh? He just had it waxed and cleaned.

And Santa needed a reindeer too. And guess whose reindeer had been nominated for the task?

"Sven, wake up buddy. It's bath time." Kristoff yawned again as he took away the some thing from his sleigh. He would have to decorate it too.

But the reindeer seemed to be still sleeping.

"Hey Sven, don't pretend you didn't hear me." The blond man is insisted as he cleaned the rear of the sleigh. "I promise I'll use your favorite reindeer shampoo and everything. I got a new bottle from Oaken's."

Still no reply from his dear friend.

"Sven?" he asked as he looked around.

"Sven?!"

Kristoff looked around the stables. The reindeer was gone.

"Where did he go this time?" he wondered crossing his arms. Kristoff decided to look at the other stables where a pig was living there at the moment.

And then just as he was about to enter the gate, he heard some noise inside as he spotted something or better say someone by the corner of his eye.

Kristoff hid behind a pile of hay and followed the dark cloaked figure with his eyes. The figure seemed to be holding an empty bag or something. Could this be the misterious cloaked figure Elsa described?

And then he saw that Sven was standing to the cloaked figure. The cloaked person reached to touch the reindeer's head.

"Oh no. Sven!" He said worried and he came out of his hiding spot.

Kristoff ran quickly and before the cloaked trespasser could reach, he grabbed the corner of the cloaked and pulled down to reveal the face of the intruder.

"ANNA?!" he explained surprised.

"Kristoff? What the heck do you think you are doing?" she said startled. "You scared the heck out of me. And Sven."

The reindeer nodded in agreement with the Princess.

'Me?" he said. "What about you?" he replied. 'What are you doing here and dressed with a black cloak? I thought you were that misterious person that Elsa dreamed about."

"What? This a shawl Kristoff not a cloak. It was my mother's. And it's wine red, not black." The Princess explained.

"Oh," the ice harvester payed attention to it and realized his mistake. Now that she had said it was white obvious to see there was a difference.

Still, that didn't explain her being here. And so early. Anna hated to get up early. She was almost related to bears in winter. She liked to hibernate almost.

"Hey, what are you doing here anyway?" he asked looking at Anna and Sven.

Both shared a look and avoided look at him. They were hiding something.

"Anna, Sven… what did you do?"

"Nothing." Anna replied quickly. "We went for a ride didn't we buddy?"

The reindeer nodded in agreement.

Definitely they did. But where? And what did they do?

Then he spotted again the empty red bag on Anna's hand. Before she could react he took from her the bag and raised it.

"Hey," she fought to get it. "Give it back "

"What is this?"

"Its empty." Kristoff said as he opened it. But this was a big bag. What were the contents of it?

"See, I told you." she said sounding happy as he took the red bag from him. Evidence of whatever she had plotted. "It was nothing."

She jumped to kiss him quickly in the lips catching him off guard. "See you later."

And just like that, she proceeded to leave him alone with Sven in the stables. And the sleeping pig that was on the far corner.

It definitely didn't felt like nothing. She was up to something for sure.

If only Kristoff had payed more attention, he would have noticed the right evidence he was looking for. Hanging right above his head. The real reason Anna had stolen a kiss from him.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

Kai was moving his legs as fast as he could. He had to get there before. Before she noticed it. Before it was too late.

He reachead the main office of the ruler of this land. The door was closed but he could hear movement inside.

He arranged his coat and hair as best as he could. He could only wish he looked presentable enough after all that running.

He knocked.

"Come in." The voice of the Queen replied.

He breathed in and exhaled. Then he opened the door.

"Good morn…" he stopped. The roomed seemed to be empty. But that hadn'tbeen the reason the man stopped talking. It was the state of the room itself.

The butler's heart almost stopped. Almost. If he weren't trained thanks to the Princess shennanings from the past and present.

The room was a mess. An utterly complete, mess.

There were books spread all over the floor. Piles of books of all sizes arranged in big and small towers. And all over the place there were maps, rolls of parchments and paper spread around the floor. It looked as if a hurricane had just passed through the Queen's office.

Kai was beyond perplexed. Speachless. He was a man of order. And this, was anarchy of the highest order.

"Oh, Kai good day." The voice of he Queen called his attention. Her head had popped out from behind of a tower of books. "I didn't expect to see you until later."

Why was she acting so normal? As if her study was not a complete disaster? What if another one had knocked instead? What if a dignitary from kingdom saw this mess or worst a member of the staff?

He could only thank the almighty that had come this early.

Could this be her power's doing? He wondered. But there was no ice or snow around. So no, that couldn't be it.

And not to mention, the Queen herself. She was not unconfortable with this mess. So that left one explanation. She had caused it. SHE!

In the past, the Queen when being a little Princess; she would take the blame in the name of her sister's disasters. But this time?

What the heck has happened here?!

Kai blinked several times and had to take at least two deep breaths before he regained his calm demanor. "Your Majesty," He tried to say politely. "May I ask what happened here? And why are you sitting on the cold carpet instead of your chair?"

"Oh," The monarch just shrugged innocently. "Sorry." she looked around. "There's a book missing that contains the original planes of Arendelle that could come of use to rebuild the park. I'ts been hours since the seach started, but as you can see it's still missing."

"But your Majesty," he insisted. "Remember your injuries. If the Princess sees you, well, on this condition, she might say something."

"Right." the Queen said as if finally some sense had entered her mind. "But don't worry. I've been feeling better. It must be the reindeer tonic."

"Reindeer tonic?" he mumbled.

As the Queen proceeded to explain that reindeer tonic was a remedy for the injuries, given to them by Okean the mind of the butler was also working its grinds as he studied her.

Did she say it's been hours? That would mean the Queen had been doing whatever she was doing, all morning. That could only mean two things.

One she probably didn't had enough rest. Again. Or even eaten.

And two. She hadn't left the castle and the study ever since.

That last thought actually made the butler feel at least better.

At least if she hadn't left her study, she hadn't realized there was a running crisis outside this room. Arendelle was under chaos and he had come to warn her. He had to save her from it. If she stayed here, at least she wouldn't bump into a certain rebel royal with bad taste in jokes. If she stayed separeted from that royal, at least for a few hours, until Kai resolved this issue, then everything would come out perfect.

"...but anyway," the Queen kept saying. "I think we might have got carried away too much looking for the book."

Wait. Kai mind stopped. Did she say we? Before she had used the pronoun of plural but he thought she had meant as a geneal way of speaking. But now he was not sure if she really meant…

"Found it!" Another voice, a male voice actually, interrupted the Queen. "I won!"

Speak of the devil himself.

"What?!" The Queen turned to look at the enourmous mountain of papers that was behind her.

The tower suddenly shook and from it emerged a hand holding a book. Then an arm, and then... him. Great.

"Good moring Your Highness." Kai spoke with less enthusiasm.

"Good morning." The Prince said as he handed the book to the Queen. "Here it is Your Majesty."

"But I had looked there already." she said with a bit of disappointment in that look.

"Guess I am a better finder than you." He replied. "And that means I won and you lost."

"Ugh." The Queen sighed as if she had been defeated.

"Say," the Prince said as he emerged completely out of the pile of papers. "Why don't you talk to Mr. Kai here as he is already here? Remember our deal Your Majesty?"

"What?" she looked at him then at Kai. "You mean …?" she only looked at him but he seemed to get there secret question. They stared at each other as if they were having a silent conversation, until the Prince only nodded and produced a plotting smile at her.

Kai didn't know what was happening. But if was related to this young man, it couldn't be good.

"Fine." The Queen sighed. Then she looked at the Main Butler.

"Kai, there's something I need to tell you actually, and since you are here. Well,.." she seemed to doubt her words for a moment.

Why did she look hesitant? And why was the Rebel Prince just staring at them with amusement.

Oh no.

One thing was for sure. He wouldn't like it. He knew that.

"Uhm," the Queen moved her eyes slightly to meet the Prince's eyes. "I might as well do it properly."

The Prince seemed to had got her silent message as he stood up from the floor. Kai came to notice he had managed to do it without a cane. Maybe that infamous reindeer tonic, the Princess had been giving to the Queen and Prince, was actually doing something.

The Prince offered his hand to the Queen and she took it and she also stood up.

It didn't passed unoticed by the sharp eyes of the butler that the movement had been done naturally without any akwardness between them.

Great. Just great.

"What Her Majesty is trying to say, is that there is a mission only the greatest and most reliable man could ever accomplish." The Prince spoke as he rested his hand on the Queen's desk for support. Maybe the young Prince was no longer attached to the cane for simple tasks, but Kai could tell he was still not fully recovered.

Kai almost rolled his eyes. But he kept himself appropiate still.

"Forget it Derek," The Queen spoke to the Prince this time forgetting to use the title the butler noticed. "Flatteing won't work on Kai."

"Your Majesty, may I speak freely?" the Butler asked calmly.

"Of course Kai." She replied with a knowing smile.

"Certainly I would not." He assured proud that the Queen knew him too well. "But if there is something you need my assistance with you know I am willing to serve."

The Prince shrugged. "Fine. Fine. But don't tell me I didn't try to help you Elsa. But you still have to tell him." this time, the Prince was the one to omit any title.

Great. Just great.

The Snow Queen sighed as she looked at the butler.

"Kai. Maybe you should sit down for this one."

Kai knew it. He should have retire a long time ago. But how could he?

Great. Just great.

And then the Butler took a sit. Ready to whatever the Queen might say. While he had totally forgotten the reason he had come to see her in the first place.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

Meanwhile, not very far from the castle. A snowman, a reindeer and an ice harvester arrived to deliver Sven and the sleigh full with presents at the centre plaza. Only to find themselves in the middle of a Christmas pandemonium.

"What's going on?" Olaf asked confused as his tiny head moved left to right then 360 degrees.

Just as the snowman said that a man passed next to them with a dreamy smile as he touched his cheek. Kristoff wasn't sure if the man was drunk or what but his walking was anything but straight.

Then not far away, they could hear a woman's scream with excitement.

"Yes, of course I'll marry you." They heard from afar.

"What do you mean I have bad breath?" from the one side.

"Aww, they are so cute." From another side.

The ice harvester, the snowman and reindeer noticed the plaza was under a kind of spell. Everyone seemed a bit too enchanted to the Christmas season.

"Why does everybody looks so happy?" asked Kristoff.

"I don't know. But that's good isn't it?" Olaf said. "Maybe because Santa will give presents to the children? Or maybe because of the smell of sweets and food?"

"Err? I don't know." Kristoff said as he saw an old couple feed each other some sweets. They seemed so much in love. "Something feels weird."

"Mhmm, it does." The snowman says. "What do you think Sven?"

"Sven?"

Sven didn't reply as he pretended not to listen. Now that was odd. Kristoff though. Or better say suspicious.

"Sven, don't tell me this is Anna's doing?" Kristoff tried to guess.

The reindeer avoided his human friend by pretending he was interested in Olaf's carrot nose.

"Of course she is." Kristoff rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms. "But what did she did exactly? And why?"

"Oh my gosh, that's Krispy. Hey Krispy!" a women suddenly shouted as Kristoff looked back.

Not very far from them, there was the group of young aristocrats women he had met at the ball. The ones that never got his name right.

"Silly, it's not Krispy is Carlos." As the began to approach at him. "Carlos you better be cheerful enough. 'Cause we are ready to bring the holly to the jolly this season."

"What are they saying?" Kristoff was absolutely confused now.

"Uhm, Kristoff, maybe you should run." Olaf suggested.

"What? Why?" he asked again.

"I believe I figured out the reason everyone is acting so weird." The snowman pointed out with his little wooden hand. "I think they are just sharing love."

"Sharing love? What do you mean?"

The ice harvester looked up and there it was. Standing over the lampost and right over his head. One of Olaf's little brothers. A snowgie. With his black eyes filled with mischief. In his little mouth the reason of all this crazyness. The reason people were acting so weird and lovey dovey, and the reason people had even started even chasing or running from one another. Mistletoe!!!

"Krispy, want to taste cherry. I've got a new lipstick."

"See, I told you should run."

The poor man didn't need to be asked twice as he ordered his legs to move as fast as he could to get lost among the crowd. Leaving the snowman in charge of the sleigh and Sven there as well.

As he passed, he could recognize similar situations as his where people were chased by the snowgies with mistletoe in their mouths. While some people loved the idea and even chased the little snowmen to get kissed or kiss the one they love, there were others that were not that social or any kind of it such as Kristoff.

Some had to run for their life's as lots and lots of snowgies chased their victims for a stolen kiss.

No one seemed to be safe in Arendelle. Frenemies to lovers and unsuspecting results of parings being brought together thanks to the magic of Christmas. Even some confessions and proposals had come out of this result. All in the cheer of the season.

But, there were other cases. Such as Kristoff's case. Where they were apparently popular among some group of fans. And these fanatics were ready to welcome traditions and be obliged to be cheerful for the Christmas festivities. So of course in the name of good will, they would not lose a chance to steal a kiss from their inoncent beloved admired ones. Also known as victims of the Christmas weed.

"Krispy wait…"

"Anna, what did you do?!" he asked as he kept running among the enamored crowd.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

"I'm sorry dear. My hearing is not that good. People are what now?!" Jill the old cook asked excited.

"They are kissing Jill. Kissing." Daisy the maid whispered to the cook and to the group of staff that were gathered in the kitchen. "My brother who works at the laundry just told me as he came to deliver an errand. He said there are little mistletoes hidden all around town. And that people are acting romantic and chummy. Well, he also mentioned some of them were chasing others. But just a bunch."

"I can't believe it." Said one of the guard who was also part of the gossip group.

"I know." Said a footman.

"Why didn't we think of it earlier?" said a cook and a maid at the same time.

Everyone seemed to agree.

"So who bet for a Christmas kiss on the tol?"

"Do you think they'll finally do it?" asked one.

"What tells you they hadn't been under one already?"

"You can't be serious? Of course they haven't. Have you seen them?" Said another.

"But they could have."

"How about the night they didn't return?"

"Don't be ridiculous. We saw them return with the Princess and the other folks."

"But today there might be a chance. Make your bets everybody."

"We need eyes everyone people. Everywhere." Said another. "We can't miss this one."

Every member of the staff was talking at the same time. Everyone leaving behind their duties as their interest was focused on a pair or royals and the outcome of the mistletoe frenzy.

"Ehem. Greetings everyone." A voice called their attention. It was Kai's distinctive voice.

Everyone stopped talking as they turned feeling already the wrath of their boss about to explode. But then as they turned around several of them had to press their lips or even turn around to avoid bursting out laughing right there.

Kai. Their boss. The one an only Master of Keys and Head Butler to the Castle and Royal Crown of Arendelle. That same man that would always look presentable and in his uniform.

That same man. Was dressed as the one and only Father Christmas himself.

"May I ask what are you all gossiping around here and not working?" the butler asked.

Everyone held their mouths even with most strength.

This had to be a test.

As the man spoke, his fake white beard moved in a funny way. No one dared to speak. Well, no one except Jill the cook of course.

The old cook cracked a laugh not hiding her amusement.

"Say, feeling cheerful enough Mister Claus?" She joked.

"Easy Jill, or you'll get carbon under the tree." He warned.

"That would work for me Santa. I can use it for cooking." She replied teasing.

The man's stare frowned a bit but he remained calm. The one that told everyone they shouldn't mess with him.

"Alright, alright." said a third voice. It was Gerda. Who had also entered the kitchen.

"What is going on?" she asked. "What…Oh, Kai." She noticed the man dressed in red. It was clear she almost had to keep herself together to hide her giggle. The sight of him in the red suit had even had an effect on her. "I see the Queen already talked to you. Good thing the suit fitted you."

The man just kept serene. But everyone could tell he was not amused. And everyone could tell as well Gerda was enjoying it.

Then Gerda turned to look at everyone. Serious and back to business.

"Now, as all of you must have heard there seems to be a situation at the plaza." She called everyone's attention.

"So it's true then? About the mistletoe?" Asked one brave maid.

"I though Christmas weed had been all burnt out at the fire." Said another.

"Whoever did this must have a good supplier and connections."

"Or money."

"Or both."

"Now, now. No gossip will do no good. It's Christmas Eve and we still have lots of work to do."Gerda intervened.

"But it's true then?" asked Jill the cook.

Gerda sighed. "Yes. It seem it is." She responded. "Now, everyone, I need you to listen to me. I need you to continue with your normal duties here at the castle. And prepare everything for this evening Christmas event. As you may see, Kai is already doing his paper, so I expect from you the same. And be to the standardrs of the Crown's staff. Did I made myself clear?"

"But what about the Christmas weed?" asked one.

Gerda sighed. "Did I made myself clear?" she repeated.

"Yes ma'am!" Everyone responded.

"Dismised." She said and everyone ran to their posts of jobs immediately.

Kai remained there giving Gerda a questioning look. Jill stayed in the kitchen as well. The three knowing there was something else to discuss.

"How are going to handle this?" Kai finally asked.

"By not handling it of course." Gerda replied calmly.

"But…"

"No buts Kai, or should I say Santa." She said. "Knowing you, you must have warned the Queen already or do something to make her avoid the plaza as long as possible until you got rid of the mistletoe issue. I even bet you wanted to assign the Prince of Rosendelle to help with the hospital moving to their new building or something very far away from the Queen. Just to separate them for today."

"Well…I…" he said alarmed. "Oh no. I forgot to warn her."

"Ohhh…well, well." Jill just said as she kept stirring the soup. "What about my boy? Did you manage to separate him from her or do you need me to ask for his help here at the kitchen. He wouldn't mind. And me neither."

The butler almost rolled his eyes. Almost. But Santa doesn't roll his eyes so he kept in character.

"Will you stop referring to His Royal Highness as your boy?" he asked.

The cook laughed and kept stirring. "What surprises me is that you didn't warn her Majesty about this. Unless …oh I see now. You didn't forget didn't you. It's just you couldn't tell her. Am I right?"

The man looked away.

"You found them together." the cook guessed. "Didn't ya?"

The butler just ignored her.

"Ha, I knew it!" she pointed at him with the wooden spoon. "That's why you couldn't separate 'em. Whatcha are you gonna do 'bout it, huh?" she asked with her marked accent excited.

The man just buffed behind his fake Santa's beard.

Gerda then intervened.

"That's enough you two." She said. "We need to get back to work and most importantly keep our staff busy out of any gossip. And in regards Her Majesty and His Highness, let's leave them alone shall we?"

"How convenient for you." The butler mumbled at Gerda.

The woman in response granted him a menacing look.

"Don't even try it Santa." She dared.

He gulped. He kept his mouth shut.

"Good. Now," she handed him a piece of paper. "Here are your lines. Remember to say them when you are giving the presents to the children."

"It only says Ho ho ho." The butler said confused.

"Exactly." Gerda replied. "That won't be difficult to memorize will it?"

"You dont't like it Kai?" Jill asked amused.

"I studied drama in my younger years." He added proudly. "I feel I can do better that this."

"You can add a fourth Ho if you'd like it Mr. Hamlet." Jill responded with a smirk.

Once again Kai almost rolled his eyes. Almost.

The one who did was Gerda.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

Christmas celebration at the plaza began at six in the afternoon as planned. Not even the misterious appearances of mistletoe all around Arendelle would be enough to stop the people to attend. In fact, there was a rumour that the one that got kissed under the infamous plant would get good luck for the whole year.

Hence, after the events of the recent fire and in hope to recover the good cheer that Arendellians always had during yule's season, most people had gathered at the plaza with a secret motive. To find the nasty plant and be blessed with the good luck.

The rumour of the good luck had been consequence of the results of pairings finally confessing to each other. And since they all seemed happier than ever, it was an expected result that witnesses of the their happiness translated it into good luck.

That, and the fact, that two people in particular had found a golden coin under the mistletoe and with that coin they had bought one single ticket for the Merchants' Christmas lotery.

And, who would have thought that they would actually win the first prize. A payed trip on stay in a five star castle hostal in Dunbroch. And a coupon for Oaken's.

"Congratulations to the winners." Princess Anna exclaimed happily to the public. "Now let them come to the stage so that the Queen and Santa can grant them with their prize."

The Queen and Santa, also known as Kai the Head Butler, stood in the front in wait for the lucky pair.

"Hey?" the voice of Elsa's sister called again. "Calling the winners of the first prize. Come on. Don't be shy."

Anna turned to give a questioning look to her older sister.

"Where are they?" Anna asked.

"I don't know." Elsa replied. "I don't have the winner's list."

"Here says that the first prize was won by a woman called Eleanor and a man called Jorgen Your Majesty." the voice of Prince Derek said from the side of the stage.

"Why does those name sound familiar?" Kai mumbled.

"Wait did you say Eleanor and Jorgen?" Elsa said. "Could it be?"

The Queen and Anna shared a surprised look.

"No, it couldn't." Anna said.

"I knew it!" Kai, erm, Santa said exited. "It's not only but Lady Verdeen and Captain Jorgen."

"Wait what?" Anna exclaimed this time.

And it that instant, two of the most controversary memebers of the Royal Council itself got on the stage.

"But didn't they said a couple won?" Elsa whispered to Anna.

"I thought so too." Anna whispered back.

"What is it?" Derek whispered from below the stage.

"Those two, can't stand each other. "Elsa explained him as she mumbled so that he could understand.

"Ohhh... Ohhh.." the Prince said. "This is good. Olaf get the..."

"Popcorn. Here it is." the voice of the snowman could be heard.

"Great mate."

Elsa rolled her eyes at the Prince's reaction. But she had to give him some credit. To see her Councilors approach Anna and then at her and Kai to receive a prize together was an insolit event.

"Err.. Anna," Derek whispered to the Princess. "Shouldn't you announce the winners again?"

"What? Oh, right. Right." The Princess snaped. "Alright. Listen everyone let's give a big applause to the winners for the big prize. To Lady Eleanor and Captain Jorgen."

People cheered and applauded as the woman and man in question advanced the stage and received their prize from Santa and the Queen.

"Ho, ho, ho. And ho." Kai laughed in his Santa's voice. "Merry Christmas to yee. Given you two have been good all this year. To be cheerful, or not to be. That is the question on this festivities."

Elsa fought hard not to look weirdly at Kai as he gave the prize. His Santa impersonation reminded here more of a Shakespearean character than the traditional man that she wrote to as a kid.

"Thank you." Said Lady Eleanor as she received the certificate of the prize in the name of both winneers. "Your Majesty." She saluted with curtsy at the Queen.

"Lady Eleanor." Elsa saluted with grace. "Captain Jorgen."

"Your Majesty, greetings." The Captain saluted in his military manner to the ruler.

"I am glad you won." The Queen admitted. "But I still do not undestand how come you came to share the same ticket in the lotery?"

In that moment to the Queen's surprise the faces her Councilors became read as Kai's costume and Elsa could have sworn they had took a step from the other to mark some distance between them.

"Oh, well... you see..." Lady Eleanor started to explain. "It's a funny story actually. But, let's leave it for another time shall we?" "Afirmative." Captain Jorgen said shortly but with his voice not as sharp and clean as always. The man, Elsa knew by experience, would have a tendecy to speak for hours.

And this time, he seemed to be out of words. Or avoiding the topic even.

"I heard the winners found a coin and bought a ticket together." Anna mentioned casually. "I must have heard wrong then."

"Did you now? Hehe." the woman laughed nervously. "Oh, rumours travel fast I suppose. I should know, since it's my job to know this things."

Elsa looked at Kai and they shared a knowing look. The woman would never, ever act nervous. She was the definition of self confidence.

"So, you did find a coin." Anna said probably not sensing the change of tone by Lady Eleanor.

Only Elsa and Kai, who had spent hours and hours with the Council members could have noticed the slight change in the woman's tone.

"We did." Captain said. "I found the coin. Eleanor here just didn't want to admit I found it first. So, she insisted we give it charity and by a lottery ticket. And here we are."

"Ridiculous as always Jorgen." Lady Everdeen finally recovered her usual confident personality. "I saw the coin first. You just happen to have bigger bulker arms."

"I took it first." He insisted.

"No I did. You were the one that caught me off guard with that dirty trick."

"I told you someone pushed me. I slipped Eleanor. Even if you were the last woman of the globe I would never..."

"Uhm," Elsa tried to call their attention. "Lady Everdeen, Captain Jorgen, do I need to remind you we have an audience this time? I do not mind it, but remember you are still memebers of the Royal Council."

"As always you speak wisdom Your Majesty. So young and so wise." Lady Everdeen smiled tenderly at Elsa. Elsa simply granted a polite smile.

People were starting to stare at the stage with interest. Not fully undestanding the converstation peoeple would start to wonder what was happening at the stage.

"Anna, maybe we should announce the next activities." Elsa asked her sister.

"Right, right." the Princess got her sister's message. "Alright everyone, let's give another applause to the lucky winners. Please enjoy the rest of the evening eating, the band will play later so get your partners and get ready for dancing later this evening. And Merry Christmas. Later Santa here, will give the rest of the presents. Have fun in the ice rink Queen Elsa gladly created and happy holidays to everyone."

People cheered and left to join to the different activies the Princess and Queen with the help of everyone had prepared for welcome Christmas.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

"Elsa." The Queen heard her name been called and turned around to meet her sister.

"Anna." The older sister welcomed the Princess with a happy smile. "Congratulations. I still don't know how you and the others managed to pull this off in a few hours."

"Oh, please." The Princess smiled.

"No really, great work Princess." Derek mentioned this time as he arrived with Olaf. Both carrying hot chocolate. "Here you go Princess. Here you go Santa."

"Many thanks Your Highness. You shouldn't have." The butler muttered as he rested in Kristoff's sleigh.

"I brought one for Kristoff but I hadn't seen him all day." Derek said as he looked around.

"Oh, maybe he is still running." Olaf said as he offered some marshmallows to Sven.

"Riiight." the Prince was clearly confused. "Is it an ice harvester thing? I mean, running?"

"Maybe it is." Elsa replied as she took the chocolate from him. "His family has different traditions as ours so maybe its part of a custom between them."

Derek drank from his own cup. "Hmmm." he replied.

I see. He is weird. Elsa sort of guessed what he said in mumbles.

"Mhmm." And the Queen just nodded from behind her own cup.

I know. She replied in mumbles as well.

"Kristoff running?" Anna laughed. "Yeah right. I don't think so. He might be sorf of strong for his job but he would avoid running if he can. He is a lazy big man. But still lazy. He'sar the castle having a nap."

Olaf and Sven nodded in agreement with the Princess.

Elsa felt in that moment that Kai was just staring at everyone with a questioning look. And could she blame the poor man? Elsa and Derek in their own way, being people of few words had managed to undestand each other without words.

But to see that even Anna, a snowman and a reindeer could also understand to a certain level could be questioned by people. Even if that person was Kai. Who was used to them.

Maybe they should leave reindeer talking to be done only at home.

"Oh, Elsa, I think I might go fetch Kristoff." Anna said. "I really want to dance later with him."

"That sounds nice Anna." Elsa said. "You can go find him. I can stay here …"

"What? No. That wasn't the plan." Anna quickly said.

"Plan?" her sister asked confused.

"I... I mean..."the Princess cleared her voice. "I had this idea that you could go talk to some of the stand owners as the Queen and greet them. Many of them were eager to thank you or simply meet you. It could give Arendelle some popularity bonus as being strong enough to recover after a fire."

"The smart Princess has a good argument Your Majesty. You should go while I can stay and give a hand to Santa here." the Prince said as he drank from his cup and cheered at them with it.

"That..." the Butler said suddenly. "sounds excellent Your Highness. I could use the help to deliver the presents to the children."

"In that case I stay to help Kai." Elsa said.

"What?" The butler said alarmed. "I, I mean … Her Highness is right your Majesty. The Crown's needs to make it's presence. People of Arendelle are so grateful how you and the Princess responded during the fire. Besides you shouldn't be carrying things. Some of the presents are quite heavy."

"Exactly. Good point Kai." Anna said.

The butler nodded gladly.

"Which is why Derek you cannot stay either. You also are recovering. Besides since you've been helping design the new park and buildings with Elsa, it would only be obvious that you two meet the owners of the shops and what they sell. It could help on your designs for a more touristic perspective."

The Butler's eyes opened as he heard the Princess words.

"I cannot find a flaw in that logic." Elsa had to admit as she glanced at the Prince.

"But who will help Santa here?" Derek replied.

"Derek you are carrying a cane." The Princess pointed out.

"But just for support now." The Prince added. "I can be an elf as long as her Majesty doesn't gove me pointy ears made of ice."

"Anna is right you know." The Queen mentioned. "Although seeing you with pointy ears does sound tempting." She granted an innocent smile.

"Not helping Elsa." The young royal added.

"Nonense. Neither of you will work as elfs." Anna said. "And that's final."

"Ohh, Ohh... I don't mind pointy ears. Can I be the elf? Can I be the elf?" Olaf suddenly jumped excited. "Please Kai please. I cam make myself pointy ears with rocks and everything."

"Yes! Excelent idea Olaf." Anna said happily. "You and Sven stay here and help Kai with whatever he needs. And in case Kristoff comes back tell him I am looking for him. And you two..."

Anna turned to adress the other royals. "No running. No jumping into fire buildings or anything risky. And just in case no pointy ears. And no more work for today. You've been working all day in the study Elsa. You deserve to enjoy Christmas too. Understood?"

Elsa sighed.

"Anna..." the Queen began saying.

"Pleaaseee." Anna had to use her ultimate weapon. The puppy eyes.

Derek stood behind of the Queen in fear. The Queen kept her regal posture but was clear she had also been affected by it.

"Sweet Christmas." Derek said as he stared at the Princess. He looked terrifed and yet touched at the same time. "What is that before my eyes?"

"Those are Anna's puppy eyes." Elsa explained. "One of his most powerful weapons."

"Pleassseee." Anna pleaded with the most cute voice she had.

"Elsa, do something. I am melting inside. The cuteness." Derek tried to cover his eyes. "It's too much for a mere mortal as myself. Arghhh..."

The Queen rolled her eyes at his over reaction.

"Fine. You win Anna."

"YES!!" the Princess jumped happily.

"Elsa, save yourself,…"

"Derek."

"The tender..."

"Derek."

"The cuteness is too much, I can't... I am defeated." the Prince pretented to faint over Sven.

"Derek." the Queen insisted. "She is back to normal now. You can stop now."

"What? Oh, great." The Prince recovered himself as he patted the reindeer in the back. "Thanks furry buddy."

The reindeer just moved his ears in response.

"Honestly, you can be so dramatic sometimes." The Queen said for a moment sighing.

"But those eyes!" He insisted. "She could conquer a nation with those puppy eyes."

"I could?" Anna seemed surprised.

"Don't listent to him Anna." Elsa intervened. "He likes to exaggerate everything."

"But she could. You know she..." Elsa gave a stern look at the Prince and he shut his mouth. "Ohhh. I get it." he replied. "Anyway, since we have been assigned to a new task we could go and check out the shops. I saw some ice sculptures at the ice harvesters post on the other side of the plaza. Want to check them out Your Majesty?"

"I confess I wouldn't mind seeing that." She replied getting it was their cue to leave before they fell into more of Anna's powerful puppy eyes. They could definetly conquer nations.

"Great! Excellent!" Anna called both their attention in an eager tone. "Now go, go, Go! But, don't you dare to even run. I brought this with me in case you get yourselves hurt again."

Anna showed them the little flask of reindeer tonic and the royals gulped.

"Let's go before she takes out the spoon." Derek said quickly.

As he said it the Princess took out two spoons.

"No need to ask twice." The Queen nodded.

And they walked ahead to the crowd as fast as their injuries let them.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

"Have fun." Anna said innocently with a tender smile.

After the two royals were gone, Anna's playful glance disappeared to change into a more serious one. The time had come.

When no one was looking Anna and Sven shared a look. Only the reindeer, accomplice to her plan knew what was to come. Sven got the message and grabbed Santa's hat from the butlers head.

"Hey give it back." The butler said.

"Oh no. It got ruined." Anna said suddenly. "Now the children will think Santa is bald. Whatever shall we do?"

"Nothing to worry Your Majesty." The Butler said. "I have another hat here. Just in case."

"What?"

Anna looked quickly at Sven. The reindeer took the other hat with his teeth and pulled. The butler pulled in response and so the reindeer let go of the hat letting Kai pull and lost his balance. In consequence, the man had spilled his chocolate drink over his suit.

"Oh, no." Anna suddenly said. "Now the children will think Santa is dirty and bald."

"Whatever shall we do?" this time Olaf said worriedly.

"That we cannot allow. For Arendelle." The butler said. "Nothing to worry Your Highness. This is nothing against Gerda's cleaning formula. I will go back to the Castle and ask her help."

"I can still be the elf and take care of the presents and the sleigh."

"Good idea Olaf." Anna said. "Take your time Kai. Olaf and Sven can manage until you return."

After the butler vowed to the Princess and said his goodbyes Anna's innocent smile turned into a more mischievous one.

She looked up. And there they were. Hiding in mere sight. In the rooftops. In the Christmas decorations and in the trees.

As she looked up, from the shadows and from every corner her little friends and minions popped out of their hiding posts.

Anna gave them a knowing signal. It was now or never.

And then the little snowmen jumped happily as they were once again allowed to play. They suddenly vanished into the shadows of the hallways and over the rooftops to find new hiding spots and innocent couples. Ready to get them under the mistletoe.

Anna had worked all day for this moment. She had to cause a crazy beging in the morning to avoid suspiciousness on the real objective of her mission. Poor Lady Eleanor and Caption Jorgen. From what she had learnt they had been victims of her plan. Although she wondered how? Those two would never kiss not even on the cheek. Probably their case was just a fake rumour. But these mere casualties were a calculated result. Even Kristoff had to be sacrificed for the greater cause.

Anna knew why he had been running. He had been chased by one moving mistletoe. At least for a while. Just enough to make him return to the Castle where she would be expecting him. And he would ask confused what had she been planning.

When he had arrived he was not amused obviously. But Anna had her reasons. So, she had asked him for this time to not question her method to bring cheerfulness to the people.

Of course that was only part of the truth. The ice harvester being tired after all that chasing didn't argue that much but didn't seem a hundred percent convinced.

But Anna was clever. She knew Kristoff after eating always got sleepy. So, she invited him for lunch as an apology and not much after he fell asleep on the couch. His nap wouldn't take that much as he had promised a dance with her. But Anna knew that after all that running he wouldn't wake up until the next part of her plan already had taken action. Kristoff might discover her true intentions later and she would have to explain. She knew that. But for this moment she would take advantage of the Christmas event on her favor.

It was all in the parameters of her calculations. Not only Elsa was a strategist. Their father had taught both of them to play well chess and how to make plans. Only Anna preferred to be low profile since she was only the second in line. But, for this. Anna would use all her skills and resources.

All for the sake of the Princess real target. One couple of royals in particular. The only ones, Anna knew had been busy all day working doing paperwork. And both completely unaware of what had happened earlier at the plaza. Both naive and inoncent to what at this moment had already begun. All according to plan.

And now, without Kristoff and and Kai to intervene. There was only one thing to do.

Make that those adorkable proud and stubborn royals finally accept their feelings. Even if she had to do it by force. Anna smiled mischievously.

"Olaf, get the popcorn and put a note Santa is on a break." Anna said. "We are following them."

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

It didn't have to pass a lot of time for Elsa and Derek realize they were being followed. Although, they hadn't realized the reason people had started to stare at them as they walked around the shops of the improvised Christmas market.

"You see them don't you?" The Prince asked as they approached another shop and bought some Christmas cookies.

"I do." The Queen said as she payed the merchant. "They are after me. It's not like I'm hiding with a disguise this time. And my face is literally on the banners and the money."

The Prince laughed. "True. Besides your icy dress is too shiny anyway."

"The amount of people following us is getting ridiculous." Elsa said as they walked to the next post. A toy shop.

"I recognized three men hiding behind the candy post. They attended the Council of the Realms." Derek said as he pretended to admire a Christmas nutcracker. "And those two girls."

"You mean the ones that had approached you at the ball?" Elsa asked innocently. "Yes I saw them too. They are sitting at that restaurant and have been reading the menu backwards for at least ten minutes now."

"Well, well." Derek commented amused. "Were you spying on me at the ball Your Majesty?"

"Look who's talking Captain." She said not showing any emotion on her face or voice as they were being watched. "If I recall, you were also checking the people I talked to that night. But, no. I just happened to turn around to check on Anna when I saw them approach you."

"Touché." He added still inspecting the functionality of the nutcracker. "Well, if you may know they wanted to request a dance for later, but first they asked about my family. Probably to know my social status. As soon as I told them I was only my father's apprentice and was a server to the people they lost their interest."

Elsa almost laughed at that one. "I should steal that one from you."

"Oh, there they are again. Your group of admirers." Derek said now interested in a music box.

"They found us?" Elsa sighed trying to hide her reaction. "Where?"

"Look." The Prince opened the music box where a ballerina danced in circles inside. In the back of the box it had a small mirror. Derek pretended to show her the box while pointing on the mirror the location of Elsa's admirers. "The ones buying knitting supplies from that old lady. At least their money will serve to build the hospital."

"I see." She said inspecting the reflection. The group of men that she had met during the ball had been the most insistent to follow her. "I had hoped we had lost them when the band started playing and they got trapped in the crowd."

"Prince Boring is not with them this time." Derek said trying to look casual as he teased her. "Do you think he is still stuck in the crowd?"

"I don't think so. He might seem shy but I'll have to give him some credit." Elsa had to admit. "So far, he was the only one that dared to invite me for a dance that night. Not once, but twice. The second time right before you arrived to the meeting."

"Did he?" Derek closed the music box maybe a bit too harsh.

Elsa didn't notice his reaction as they approached the next stand. This time of a shop for winter clothing. As the shopper welcomed the Queen with a gentle smile, Derek being the fashion expert began to talk about some fabrics with the man.

With this Elsa took the opportunity to turn her head slightly to give another glace at the girls in the bistro. To her surprise, a third girl had joined the group. Great.

The shop owner thanked them both for saving that baby girl. And began asking the Prince about his choice for a cow costume. Derek vegan to explain his clothes had went wet and the Drama Club Association happened to be of help.

Elsa would nod and smile from time to time as the men talked about the possibility of a fashion trend including cow designs.

Elsa and Derek said their goodbyes to the owner and walked to the next stand. This one had a big line. It was the stand for glog. As they stood on the back of the line Elsa looked again at the group of girls at the bistro. They were still holding their menu backwards, more interested to stare at the spot Elsa and Derek were standing now. And they hadn't ordered anything yet.

"Here." Derek suddenly handed her something.

Elsa stopped what she was doing and looked at the man next to her.

"What is this?" she took the bag he apparently had bought from their last stand they visited.

She had been too distracted, well, analyzing their situation of being watches that she didn't even realize when Derek bought something.

He could hide well his mischievous simile but Elsa had learnt better know to read his eyes.

"You are up to something." She said as she looked inside. She wouldn't question him about what he bought. She knew he must have gotten a crazy idea. But after the group at the bistro had grown to a table of five women and a man all staring at them, she was more than willing to consider her partner in crime's idea.

"Perhaps." He smiled as he rested his weight slightly to his cane.

"So, what's the plan?" she asked calmly as ever. To not cause any suspicious of the bags content to the people that were watching them.

The Prince smirked. "Now that's the spirit of Christmas."

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

"So, why are we following Elsa and Derek again?" Olaf asked from beneath the bushes.

"Because something might happen." Anna whispered.

Sven, who was also hiding behind the bigger bush only hept eating the leaves.

"You mean in case another fire starts and they put themselves in danger again?" the snowman wondered whispering back. "Or in case the misterious cloaked figure attakxs again?"

"Well, that you mention it, that also could happen." The Princess thought. "But also in case something good happens."

"Oh, like what?"

"Well," Anna wasn't sure if she should reveal to the innocent soul of Olaf what she was expecting in reality. She didn't mind if Olaf knew. But she still worried of the snowman told Kristoff. Olaf being so pure and honest in heart would probably mention it to him or to anyone else. "Let's just say I wish them enjoy Christmas to the fullest."

"Ooohhh, and I though we were just pying them in their date." The snowman said.

Anna had to admit Olaf was a better reader of situations that most people would expect.

"I see now." Olaf said. "It's up to us that they enjoy Christmas."

"Exactly." She whispered back.wjile nodding. "And for that they don't need to be interrupted by us or anyone."

"But what about the people that have been following them?" Olaf asked. "Are they also getting assured Elsa and Derek enjoy Christmas?"

"People? What people?" Anna started to look around. She hadn't told anyone about her plan.

"Well, right in the corner by the knitting stand all those men have also been following Elsa since the band started playing." The snowman pointed out with his wooden hand.

Anna took out the toy binoculars she just bought earlier to see better. Olaf was right. She recognized some villagers and some dignitaries from different kingdoms, commoners and royals. The Princess recognized some of them that had attended the Council of the Realms and if she remember correctly had also attended the ball too. The men had bought almost all the products of the shop now. Just to pretend they weren't creepily staring at the Queen.

"And there's that group over that little restaurant." Olaf pointed out. "They've been following them for a while too. I think ever since Elsa and Derek went to walk around the ice rink."

"They have?" Quickly, Anna moved the direction of her toy binoculars to see the little table that Olaf was pointing.

There they were. A group of about six people ridiculously sharing a small table for two. Five women and man. All staring at both Elsa and Derek. Two of them seem to be giggling among them. It was evident they weren't interested to order any time soon as the waiter had abandoned the table and went to attend other customers.

Anna recognized some of the women. They had been the same that had approached Derek for a dance and he refused. They had also tried with Kristoff. And probably the same ones that had ealrier chased her boyfriend earlier. This group seemed more eager than the other group. And then it hit her.

"Or maybe they are just looking at them because they were the ones that saved that baby and they want their autograph." Olaf came to mention. "Everyone must think they are heroes."

"Maybe." Anna replied.

And maybe he wasn't that far from the truth. In fact Olaf had said something really important right. Elsa and Derek were calling everyone's attention whenever they went.

In the case of Elsa it was normal to be expected. Ever since children, it had been hard to avoid not noticing Elsa's presence. Even for Anna it was clear her older sister had always seem to emanate a special aura around her.

And then, there was the infamous royal. The so called Rebel Prince. Anna wasn't sure of the reason for that nickname but every aristocrat and royal seemed to call him that way. He had a reputation of being an untraditional royal such as his Father. And one that mostly avoided social events. So for the social eyes, even among royals, the Prince was a complete mistery. But being a spare heir, such as Anna most royals wouldn't pay much attention to him.

But not anymore.

Ever since the fire, the news about the Queen of Arendelle herself and a Prince from Rosendelle, misteriouly dressed as a cow, who has saved a baby from a building in fire, had spread fater than flames. No pun intended.

The same misterious man that happened to be walking around with the Queen herself.

"Oh, no." Anna knew she had forgot to consider this outcome of her plan. Both Derek and Elsa were possibly more popular than Kristoff. In fact, they could be the only thing people liked to talk about right now.

Good looking. Check. Royal status. Check. Recent local heroes. Check. Relationship status. Unconfirmed.

No one knew much about Derek as he was very discreet with his private life. And Elsa, was Elsa. A powerful monarch with magic and a reputation of not being so social.

After all that has happened Elsa had been mostly busy hosting the Council of the Realms or fighting flames or doing paperwork at her study. And Derek had been seen with her many times, helping her with the paperwork or taking dancing lessons.

But all times they've been seen together had been inside the walls of the castle grounds. So, for the people of Arendelle and it's visitors it must have caused surprise to see the Queen being accompanied by a stranger.

People might be in the dark, but one thing was very clear. The Queen wouldn't walk around accompanied by anyone. Not even a guard. Only the people who were closest to her. So, all those who were staring at the innocent royals might be wondering what Anna also wanted to know. What kind of a relationship those two had.

But what worried her the most were not the glances at them. But the people who were actually following them. Those groups didn't want to confirm if Elsa and Derek were just really good friends. They wanted possibly to find the best opportunity to get them separated and then get the chance to trick them to be under the mistletoe.

Elsa and Derek must have been too distracted to notice the little snowgie with the mistletoe that had been following them ever since.

"We need to do something." Anna said as she looked at her sister and Derek walked to make line at the glog stand. Derek had just bought something and they seemed to be talking about the contents of it. Their faces hadn't changed much ever since they started their little date. They looked serene but not showing more.

It was a true mistery what those two could be really thinking. Elsa was a professional when not showing emotions and Derek was so difficult to read.

They could possibly be talking about the weather or even politics and no one could tell the difference. Which was probably making everyone that saw them wonder even more of they were just visiting the stands by mere protocol and their motives were only related to royal duties and work. But still, people might so be wondering, since when the nations of Rosendelle and Arendelle had advanced so well in their diplomatic relationships.

And some others, might not like seeing the two nations representatives stablish a friendly interaction during Christmas.

"What is it?" Olaf asked.

"Uhm, I think those people want Elsa and Derek to interrupt their Christmas date." Anna tried to explain. "And separate them."

Olaf gasped. "Sven, think." The snowman grabbed the reindeer. "Think Sven. We need to do something."

"We need a distraction." Anna though out loud.

And almost instantly, as if she had asked the universe for it. Miraculously people began to run towards one of the market stands.

"What's going on?" Anna looked around confused. This wasn't part of her plan.

"Free hats. The man who sells sweaters and scars is giving away free Santa hats." Said someone near them letting Anna learn what has caused all this ruckus.

"I want one."

"Me two!"

And the place was crowded with lots and lots of people. The man happily giving free Santa hats to everyone. Some of them would stay to buy something from the shop or just get their free hat. But the crowd had suddenly turned to a red wave of heads.

All people were using their Santa hats now. Making it difficult to recognize anyone from the crowd.

."Wait." Anna realized. "Where are Elsa and Derek?"

"I don't see them." Olaf tried to find them.

Sven seemed also confused by all the Santa hats moving in different directions.

Anna used her binoculars to find them. They were nowhere to be found.

"They're gone." She said. "I can't believe we've lost them".

Then, remembering the groups that were following the royals she looked again at the restaurant and then at the knitting shop. They were trapped in the crowd as they couldn't cross through it. And rhe crowd people were wearing a Santa hat. And they all seemed confused as their heads moved searching for the Snow Queem and the Rebel Prince.

They had lost track of them too.

Anna buffed amd sighed. They were gone. Now everything she had planned was ruined.

"Yay. Now Elsa and Derek's date won't be interrupted." Olaf hugged Sven.

And the Princess blinked. Once again, in his innocent yet wise speech. The snowman had said something that was again true. They might have lost them from their sights, But also the others who were following them. Elsa and Derek were safe from their stalkers. Even if that meant Anna had lost her chance to see her plan take action.

"You think they got separated from each other?" Olaf asked worried.

"I don't think so." Anna said confident. Elsa and Derek were clever enough and even injured they mornwthan capable to get away from a small crowd. "I bet they are fine and still together."

"Yay. Now they can enjoy Christmas to the fullest."

"Let's hope so." It was a wishful idea. But Anna couldn't risk it. There was still something she could do. Ask for her friends' help.

As she looked up several tiny snow faces came out of their hiding spot waiting for her signal. She nodded. And the little snowmen disappeared in the roofs once again.

Not everything was lost yet. Anna though determined. Extreme situations called for extreme measurements.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... … ... ... ... ... ... ...

They ran as fast as the could. Not fully paying attention where their running had brought them. Elsa stopped running as Derek stopped too.

The Prince let go of her hand that he had been holding as they ran to not get lost.

They had reached a place without shops and that was empty. It was only the lamp post that illuminated simply the place that gave a yellow glow to the stoned floor beneath them.

"I cannot believe your crazy idea of the hats worked." Elsa said as she panted tired of that running.

"To be honest I wasn't expeting it would work too." The Prince said teasingly. "I even got a good discount after I bought that man all those hats. If it didn't work at least I would get the chance to see you wearing one." He pointed at the Santa hat that she was wearing.

"Don't push it Derek, or you'll get your elf ears. Free of charge." The Queen advised him.

He shrugged with a half smile. "Anyway. This place seems safe as we ran far from the plaza. "But O still get lost in this town. Does this place ring a bell to you Elsa?" Derek asked gasping.

"I don't know. Maybe on daylight I would recognize this place. Wait," she suddenly saw a landmark not far from them. "I think I know this place."

"You do?"

"You won't believe this. Follow me." Elsa said as she walked excited towards one corner of a building. "I knew it! Here it is."

"What is it? What do you … hold on." It was Derek's time to recognize the place. "For real? Are you sure this the same one as before?"

The Queen nodded at him with a tender smile.

"Positive."

The Prince smiled happily and joined the Queen to stand in front of the big fountain. He looked down at the bottom.

"Do you think our coins could still be there?" he asked excited as a small child.

"Maybe." Elsa couldn't hide her amused reaction as she joined him to look also at the dark water.

It would be almost impossible that the coins they used that time to make a wish would still be there. After all, fountains needed treatment and they get mantainance regularly. Meaning the money mot probably would be recovered and used for the fountain's repairs.

As adults they knew this. But their inner childs had surfaced. So for this rare occasion they would allow themselves to dream their coins were still there. Waiting for the owners to return and fulfill their promise they once made to each other.

"I can't believe of all places we ended here." Elsa said as she turned around and sat on the corner of the fountain to take a rest and admire the quiet of the place.

The Prince copied her by sitting also on the corner of the fountain next to her.

He stared at the stars above.

"So this is it?" she wondered. "We are finally allowed to tell what we wished for that time."

"I suppose we are." He added. "Nothing can jinx it this time."

"Well, mine was that I wished Anna to recover quickly so that we could build a snowman once again."

"Did it became true then?"

Elsa though and then spoke.

"It did." She simply said. "Only later that same year the accident would also take place."

Derek's face suddenly lost a bit of colour. He recognized what she was talking about.

"Elsa I…"

"Don't worry." She said calmly. "How about you? Will you finally tell me?"

The Prince nodded at her and as he played with his cane as he seemed to think his answer.

"Well, in my case, I would like to think my wish also came true." He answered. "In fact, I believe it just got granted today. He said as he turned to look at her.

"How come?" She wondered curious.

"Since I wished we'd be at the fountain one more time together. And, against all odds. Here were are."

"Oh." Elsa suddenly felt funny in her stomach. His eyes were showing that familiar spark, where he would be excited, happy or up to something. Only this time there was something else in the way he was looking at her that had made her feel sort of bubbly inside.

"I also wished you had a bad hair day. And you sort of did earlier today so that also got granted." He suddenly added with a playful smile. "And I got a bonus since I convinced you to wear the Santa hat."

And the bubbly sensation in her stomach was suddenly gone after his joke.

"Of course you would wish something like that." Elsa said she took her hat away in response and instinctively tried to arrange her braid.

"What?" He shrugged teasingly.

"I can still give you elf ears to match your hat you know." She warned him but her smile was giving away she wasn't that mad at him.

"Easy your Majesty. Or you might find only carbon under the tree."

Elsa moved her fingers letting small flakes dance around them and before he said anything else, over his Santa hat a pair of elf ears were added to each side.

"Hey, not fair." Derek raised his hands as he felt the pointy ears.

"Dont't even pretend you didn't ask for them." She said proudly as she admired her work.

The Prince looked at his reflection on the fountain water.

"You really like to mess with my hairstyle don't you Your Majesty?"

"I could say the same from you Your Highness." She responded already knowing he would say that.

"Me? Now that's an exaggeration. I had only pointed out when your wild hair comes to be noticeable. But you, oh, you take prize Elsa. You had given me antlers, turned my hair into an ice cream sundae and now turned me into an elf." He said as he counted all of those occasions with his fingers. "What if a dignitary walks in and thinks the Queen of Arendelle has started giving elf ears to other royals? How bold of you Your Majesty."

"Fine." She said as she produced another swirl of her magic and Derek's elf ears vanished. She didn't sound pleased which brought a proud smile to the Prince.

Derek took off his Santa hat probably fearing Elsa might change her mind.

"Truce?" he raised his hands in signal of peace.

"For now." She calmly said. "Given it's almost Christmas and I am feeling charitable. Blame the season I suppose."

He laughed. "How benevolent of you Your Majesty." And then he thought. "Hey, in the name of charity how about we go find that Lord Dracula and you grant him with some pointy ears? I bet they would look neat on him."

"Hmmm. Tempting." Elsa joined him as she also imagined the scenario. " I must confess the addition would suit him."

Derek covered his face with his jacket pretending to be a vampire. He moved his eyebrows teasingly. Then he spoke behind his clothing. "He'd definitely accomplish the vampire look. Don't you think?"

They both laughed.

BLOP

Both royals stopped their laughing as the weird sound coming from the water called their attention.

"What was that?" he asked.

"I don't know. I think something fell into the water." Elsa said as the looked behind them on the fountain.

"There." The Prince raised his sleeve and took out from the water something small.

"What is that?" Elsa as she looked the green and red thing that was dripping wet from Derek's hand.

"I don't know but it feels weird and slimy." He said as he put it to rest over the fountain rail between them.

"Eww." Elsa made a face of disgust.

They both approached and lowered their heads to study the thing better in the dim yellow light.

"Wait isn't this...?" / "I think it's…?"

"Mistletoe." / "Mistletoe." Both finished each other's sentence as both recognized the nasty plant from not many nights ago.

As a result, both Derek and Elsa reacted almost instinctively and raised their heads only to meet eyes with each other. Finally to come in aquataince how close they had been sitting without even realizing. Until now.

"I... I never though I'd see Christmas weed fall from the sky." The Prince tried to ease the mood with a silly comment. He smiled nervously.

Elsa smiled nervously.

"True. I guess this land will never cease to amaze me." She managed to say calmly trying to ignore the sudden fast beating inside her chest.

They smiled nervously as they lifted their heads and separated from each other as casually as possible.

What was until now a serene and slightly playful atmosphere, had been turned into a quiet and awkward one. All because of that holiday parasite.

The air felt different now and Elsa could only wish she could conjure a big pile of fresh snow and bury herself in it. To hide herself and cool down her warm face.

As Elsa innocently passed her cold sleeve through one of her cheeks it came to her attention sound from not afar had reached the place they were.

"What's that sound? Is that …?"

"Music." He guessed as it became more clear now the sound of music.

They stayed there listening to different melodies. The Orchestra band of Arendelle seemed to have prepared a big repertoire. From Christmas songs classics, to northfolk tunes to dancing polkas. And then they came to play ones that had recently became famous around pubs and then reached emperor's halls and monarchy's balls. The waltz. They started tomokah several of them.

Until they play the one Elsa almost recognized immediately. As her muscle memory and trained ear almost jumped into action in response to that music. They had to play that one.

Elsa couldn't avoid question the irony or bad luck for that situation.

"They are playing our waltz." Derek pointed out what they were both thinking.

"It's a common waltz after all." Elsa assured trying to not sound too much distracted by it. And also hoping they wouldn't fall into an awkward moment again.

"Only for us it isn't." He added slightly joking, slightly serious. "It's the only one that has mattered to us."

"True." She admitted as she pressed her hands slightly to not let any wild magic escape her fingers.

How can he be so bad at inventing jokes, when he can also say things like that?! Elsa's mind exclaimed almost annoyed.

And for this one she couldn't be more in agreement with her inner self.

Did Derek even realize what his words could do to her? It wasn't fair.

Suddenly Elsa sensed on her right as the Prince descended with a soft jump to be standing. Not caring about his leg, he walked away a few meters leaving his cane resting on the fountain.

Forgetting about her inner thoughts for a moment Elsa spoke.

"Derek what are you doing? You'll hurt yourself." Elsa stood up too. Worried he might do something even more reckless.

"I am not taking an extra dose of reindeer tonic because of you." The Queen said thinking if she mentioned the remedy she might persuade him to use his cane.

"Your Majesty," The Prince suddenly vowed with as much elegance as his injured leg allowed him. Then he offered his right hand. "Will you do me the honour, and allow me this dance?"

Whaaaat?!

Of course Elsa didn't yell. But her inner self certainly did.

Outside, Elsa felt completely out of words as she stared at the still vowing Prince with a teasing smile. His hand open and in wait for her response.

And not sure if her inner self had finally come to be silent or didn't want to share an opinion on this one, Elsa knew it was up to her what to do next.

And she did. It was as if he had read her mind. The moment she heard the first notes all she wanted to do was dance with him.

Was this an effect of a conditional effect? Have they been programmed by their own doing?

And yet. He was right. After all those hours of rehearsals and late night practices. They had gained the right to at least claim a simple common waltz as theirs.

It was their waltz. And as much embarrassing it sounded or looked they responded to it. Like trained dogs.

Or was it really just it? She wondered. But, did she really cared if it was it?

They never mentioned it. Or even brought out the subject. But in a way they had felt secretly upset that all those hours and hours had been wasted for nothing.

And now their chance was here. With no audience. With no need to show any political status or follow old traditions. This was for them only. Two stubborn royals that didn't dance even if needed. Two royals that had to be tricked to take dancing lessons together. Two perfectionist royals that at the end never got the opportunity to show they had aced those lessons and could do it.

Elsa took his hand slowly and responded with the same curtsy she had learnt to master thanks to Olaf's lessons.

The Prince raised his body and soon they placed their hands on the right places. Just as practiced in the music hall.

And in the change of the melody as the mad played an entrance, both a deep breath and let themselves move with the sound as their guide and the floor as their canvas to draw what they pleased.

There was no dancing floor, nor an audience to surround them. There was no reason to show the choreography they had planned to follow at the ball either. And there were no other dancers such as Anna and Kristoff to take into consideration to not bump into them.

They had all this space for themselves with the big fountain in the middle to round in circles as they danced swiftly.

Derek couldn't go so fast because of his leg and Elsa couldn't give big turns because of the bruise in her left rib. So, they moved at their own pace taking in consideration the other's capable movements.

"We are doing it." She couldn't avoid saying.

"I know." He answered as they looked at each other more confidently. "And I can't believe I'm going to say this but, I'm sort of enjoying it?"

Elsa had to laugh at his comment.

"Good to know I wasn't the only one." She came to admit.

They made an improvised swirl and in that move Elsa's magic decided to made its appearance with a playful trace being left behind them.

"Now that's new." He added smiling.

"Sorry I'm not sure where that came from." She simply said looking down.

Derek's hand left her waist for a moment to raise her chin.

"I though we had agreed to stop apologizing Your Majesty."

"Sorry, I mean, yes. I forgot about that."

He laughed.

"Let's do that again shall we?" he looked at her with that mischievous simile and cunning eyes.

How could she say no to those eyes? Not fair. Now not only Anna's puppy eyes had an effect on her but now she had come to discover she should be careful with his.

She nodded. And he didn't need to be asked twice as he took her hand more assuringly and made themselves swirl around the fountain.

He was agile even without a cane and she got surprised ar her own self for being able to follow his new eager dance moves.

As they swirled Elsa's magic bursted into action. Also, dancing around them, letting different colours of shiny flakes move freely to all directions.

Derek looked around amazed.

"Now that's really something." He said smiling. "Just like that time at the forest. I really like when they look like little ice fireworks."

Elsa bit her lip as they moved slowly to appreciate the magic.

"Maybe I could try and do something." She dared to day. And he got her silent question.

If he wasn't afraid she might lose control as it happened before.

"You ready?" he asked answering her question already. Of course he wasn't afraid. He trusted her.

And she nodded.

He didn't need to be asked twice and once again returned to the swirling.

Elsa simply closed her eyes and trusting his guidance she tried to picture in her mind what ahe wanted to show with her magic.

It was like earlier before, she figured. When Derek hugged her. Telling her a hug could tell what words couldn't. And in response her magic replied. Also without the need of words.

Could she express her raw feelings through her magic? Couls ahe do it when she didn't even know what she felt in reality? Could she do it?

Derek's hand, that rested in her waist suddenly pressed her towards him as they swirled more freely and even with her closed eyes she could tell he was telling her silently everything would be alright. That he had her. That she could trust him.

And she felt that bubbly sensation from before cover her stomach and run through all her body. From head to toes she let the warm and fizzy sensation engulf her as she heard the music and she held Derek like her anchor. Letting her mind in blank and her heart open slightly to give a glimpse of her true self. Allowing herself to trust herself at least for the time the melody played.

"Wow." She heard him say suddenly. "Just … wow."

Elsa feeling curious now of her own magic dared to open her eyes.

And not that she liked to praise herself but Derek had said it right.

"Wow." She simply said as she looked up and joined him to admire her own magic.

The waltz had ended and the band stopped playing probably as they had spotted the Queen's magic on the night sky. She realized they had danced without a tune for a while. But he kept moving around with her as she produced her magic allowing her be herself as long as she wanted.

As they stopped dancing, they didn't proceed to separate as both were still staring above their heads to admire Elsa's magic. The Queen kept one hand over his shoulder as he kept hers on her waist. Both not minding much their still holding hands. Both most focused on the magic.

All around them had been covered with tiny flakes of all colours. Some levitating and some others swirling. Traces of her magic had been drawn where they had passed dancing. As if they had been two moving pencils. But that wasn't what looked the most incredible. It was the one above them that had brought both of their wow reactions.

Over them, tiny crystals of all colours were dancing above in the sky. Like little sparks made of ice. Bursting in all shapes, as fireworks would. Only these were not made of powder. The demonstration probably had been seen by everyone in Arendelle.

As the last of the icy fireworks exploded in the shape of a big snowflake Elsa focused on her magic above and around them to make it vanish onto the air.

"I hope everyone liked the show." Elsa said. "I wasn't planning an ice demonstration after my magic's being acting weird but at the end they got their show."

"You really just showed us the top of the iceberg of what you can really do, didn't you?" He told her. "You never cease to amaze me."

Elsa felt that bubbly sensation again as she tried to be focused.

"Thank you." she said.

"For what?" he asked her.

"For this." She replied. "The dance, trusting my magic and supporting me to let it lose a bit more. I sometimes forget I shouldn't be scared to use it."

He smiled content.

"Glad to be that stone in your shoe, or high heel when needed Your Majesty." He replied teasingly. "Even if you can be quite stubborn sometimes."

"Only because I have to endure your annoying side most of those times." Elsa defended.

"And I your controlling."

"Don't be silly." She responded.

"Don't be so proud." He continued.

"Says the bad loser."

"Who has to deal with an even worst winner."

On contrary of someones belief, their exchange of lame insults instead of having a repelling effect on either of them, was causing the exact opposite reaction. They had started to approach swiftly towards each other without even ealizing it.

"Lazy." she continued saying now with a hoarse voice. Her throat felt dry now.

"Bossy." he insisted also sounding a bit hoarse too.

They were just mumbling now their words. Too proud to let the other have the last word. No matter what, they would still try to outsmart the other.

And their little ramble had also turned into a staring contest. Which was one of their silly games but this time whoever lose would be the one that might change the rules forever. For good or for worst. And that could be terrifying. We're they ready to change the rules of their game?

And inside of Elsa's mind, even another battle was taking place. She didn't want to lose. Or did she?

No. Whatever you do. Don't close your eyes. Don't! She would order herself.

It's just a game. Her other voice would intervene.

No it isn't. It hasn't been for a long, long time.

So, what will you lose of you do it? Or worst. What will you lose if you don't do it?

Elsa didn't have the opportunity this time to think about that last though as she felt Derek's weight move slightly. His leg was probably getting tired after all that dancing but he wouldn't desist either.

Both stubborn to the core. She knew that was their flaw. And too proud to accept defeat.

Still she didn't want him to get hurt even more his leg. So she raised her hand and arm that was holding his elbow to let him lean a bit more and help him rest his leg a bit.

"Careless." She scolded him as she forced him to lean on her as support.

"Reckless." He said as in response hand on her waist raised slowly to hold carefully the side of her rib where she had gotten injured during their fall. His thumb passed slowly feeling the hidden bandage beneath her dress to remind her she was also recovering.

He had noticed it. Of course he had.

Elsa could only sigh not finding any more words to say.

And he didn't insist on telling more either.

She remembered then her last though. What would she lose if she close her eyes? Was it really that bad?

And as Derek's thumb stopped feeling her bandage to hold her more carefully, his hand had came to touch her skin through the dress and tickle her side. The sudden tickling sensation had caused Elsa to jump a bit and instinctively grab his jacket. As beneath them a cold wave of her magic was also released.

"Sorry." He quickly apologize. "Did I hurt you?" he asked really worried as his hand was quickly removed form her waist.

Elsa quickly denied with her head. And caught his arm.

She laughed.

"Silly. You tickled me." She responded as she lowered her hand and take his other hand to calm him. "And what about not saying sorry anymore to each other?"

They were now standing holding both hands.

"Oh…" Derek's face lightened as he realized she wasn't hurt. And that he had only tickled her.

"I lost by the way." She admitted.

"What?"

"I closed my eyes." She explained. "When you tickled me."

" I… see?" He said a bit confused. "I didn't realize. You couldn't have told me and win."

"I know." She admitted lookimg down to not show her embarrrasment. "But, I think I… I was going to close them anyway. So, I believe you deserved to know."

There she said it. In a way. But she wanted him to know. That she had been ready to lose. And ready for maybe something else?

Derek released a laugh.

"What?" asked surprised at his reaction.

"In that case I should tell you, I lost too." He confessed as he tried ro hide his nervousness. "I was also ready to err, close my eyes. I was about to when you jumped."

"Oh…" She tried to sound calm. But inside od her she was anything but calm. Inside of her a storm of emotions was ready to be released after his words. Thanks to her training he magic stayed on put this time. The feel of his warm hands gently holding her helping her to focus to not release any more ice fireworks. "I see."

"I guess, we both lost." He commented.

"How about a tie?" She suggested.

"I can accept a tie. You?"

"I can." She nodded.

"Then we are even." He said. "Tied actually. Literally." he said as he swinged playfully their joined hands. "Get it? Tied together?"

Elsa couldn't avoid sighing as she tried to hide her smile.

"Of course you would come up with a pun right now."

"Can you blame me?" he asked innocently. "The joke was already there."

She rolled her eyes but if she were honest the fact that he had chosen to say they had ended up tied together was more than enough to make her feel that bubbly sensation again.

And before she could say something to him, Elsa felt a tingling sensation on the back of her neck. And she felt the Prince's hands straighten. Something was off. She sensed it.

"Derek." she said calmly calling his name in a serious tone.

"I know." he looked at her. "I sense it too. We are being watched again."

"I don't see anyone but I feel it all around us." she said in a whisper.

His eyes sharpened.

"You are better at sensing things. Do you think it's a bad thing?' he whispered back. "Like bad bad?"

"I don't think so." She explained. "There's something familiar about this."

"Elsa…"

"But I don't know from where."

"Elsa…" he said louder. "Look. Look up." He sounded terrified.

She followed his gaze and raised her head. She felt her body tense and her blood be drained.

All around them. In every corner of the roofs. About a hundred eyes were staring down at them. Their mischievous dark eyes staring with childish interest.

"Derek, Look at me." She spoke slowly an pulled his hands gently. He looked down at her.

"Whatever you don't move fast and don't raise your voice." She explained to him as he nodded obediently.

"What are those things?" he asked in a whisper.

"Olaf's brothers." She explained. "I don't understand what they're doing here. But we need to be very careful with them."

"Wait, you have more kids?" He asked her.

"I was going to tell you about them." Elsa hesitated. "Eventually. " she added. "They live with Marshmallow at my ice palace as they can be very unpredictable."

"How unpredictable are we talking about?"

"Trust me. A lot." She said.

He gulped.

And just then something fell from the sky. The air making it fall slowly until it hit the floor under next to their feet. The royals looked down to see the misterious object under the light.

Elsa felt her throat once again dry as she recognized the object on the floor.

"Mistletoe?" the Prince asked as they exchanged questioning look.

One of the little snowmen jumped off the ceiling and approached to the plant.

Elsa held Derek's hands and mouthed him silently.

"Don't move."

The little snowgie passed next to them as they held still as statues. The little guy grabbed the Christmas plant with it's mouth focused on his task.

Then the little snowman began his way back not seeming to bother about the royals looking at them.

As it began to walk away Derek let out a sigh in relief alarming Elsa and making the little snowgie stop suddenly.

You had to breathe? She looked at him with a frown.

You didn't told me I had to hold my breath. He replied with his eyes daringly.

The mini snowman's head turned slowly as it felt their movement of their heads.

Derek and Elsa paused as the little creature's head had been turned full backwards and lifted it's head to look at them.

They stayed still. This time Derek didn't even blink or breath.

Elsa came to realiclze how creepy a little snowman holding a mistletoe can be as the little empty eyes just stared at them.

She pressed his hand . Trying to send a silent message.

Don't look at the eyes.

She pressed harder.

Whatever you do don't look at its eyes!

He pressed back.

Too late. He replied.

And Elsa came to see Derek hadn't been referring to the one on the floor, but the Prince had locked eyes to a second one that had just jumped on his shoulder and Derek without even thinking turned his eyes and looked directly to those eyes.

They little one shook the plant on his mouth excited. And brushed the face of the Prince with it. As if wanting to show him the plant.

Derek jumped startled and scared and the little one fell. Letting go of Elsa's hand as he shook his body.

In that instant all snowman faces seemed to move as one as they locked eyes at Derek and Elsa. But mostly him.

"Oh no. They like you." Elsa said out loud.

"I though you said…"

Elsa didn't give him time to ask as she once again took his hand and pulled him fiercely.

"Run!" she said loudly this time.

And the Prince managed to hold her hand with more strength as he let himself be guided by the Queen.

… …. …. …. …. …. ….. ….. ….. ….. …… ….. …. ….. …. … .. ….. ….. ….. ….. …. …. .

As they ran through the dark alleys, from above bunches of nasty Christmas weed would be thrown at them.

"What the actual heck is going on?" he asked her.

"I have no idea." She replied.

Left, right, left, left. Elsa had brought them to the burnt areas of Arendelle where no people would be there. She couldn't risk leading them to a populated area where the festivities were being held. That left the park as their most near destination, and where they were currently running to.

Both the royals ran as an estampede of magical snow beings chased them from behind.

"Can you use your magic?" he asked as they made another turn and finally reached the park's entrance. "Or tell them to stop. They're your creations aren't they?

"It's not that simple." She said as they reached the centre of the park.

Elsa shot snow at their back ito block the way with an ice wall.

"Good one." He said.

"That won't keep them busy for long." Elsa said. "We should hide. Come on."

It was all dark but thanks to the moonlight they managed to find an opening ahead. They had reached the zone of the park that had been damaged by the fire.

"So why are they so different from Olaf or the big guy?" Derek asked as they ran towards the lake.

"They were born of my sneezing when I got a cold once and sneezes are…"

"Unpredictable. I get it." He said panting. "You don't have any more children that I should be aware of? Like burping snowmen or laughing ones? Or smelly?"

She looked back at him clearly not amused.

"Fine, fine. Just kidding."

Elsa stopped and so did the Prince next to her.

She turned around and raised her hands in position ready to use her magic in case the snowgies wouldn't stop their chase.

They had reached the bridge over the lake. It was damaged but strong enough to carry their weight.

Elsa put a wall over the lake made of ice to shield them from their upcoming chasers.

"What now? He asked her. "Should we run to the castle?"

"Too far and we need to get them away of the villagers." Elsa said feeling tired for all that running. "How's your leg?" she suddenly asked remembering she had pulled Derek all the way here and his cane has been left forgotten a the fountain.

"Don't worry." He answered. "How about your rib?"

"I'm fine." She lied. If she were honest her side did hurt maybe a little bit than normal. But after all that dancing she wouldn't expect less. So, she also knew that Derek was lying. His leg must probably had reached its limits already.

"The thing I don't get is the mistletoe." Derek said as he tried to calm his breathing.

"I've been trying to understand it too." She said. "Why?"

"Uhm," he started. "Now that I think of it. Remember that Royal Guard and that Lady that won the first prize."

"Captain Jorgen and Lady Eleanor yes. They are members of my Council. What about them?"

"It's just that I heard someone mention that the winners had been a couple that bought the ticket with a coin they found."

"Derek what are you saying?"

"They say the couple found the coin under mistletoe and had kissed."

Elsa opened her eyes abruptly remembering the faces of her council members when she asked them how they had come up to buy the ticket. They had mentioned they had to share a coin they had found together.

"But they aren't a couple." She said. "They hate each other. They probably were arguing mostly. They wouldn't have kissed unless…"

"They were tricked to do it."

"That time on the fountain." Elsa said. "When you found the mistletoe on the water."

"It was one of them trying to trick us to… well you know."

"But…we didn't." she replied.

"No." He said. "I bet that time it had been only one little snow fella. Because you would have sensed them earlier wouldn't you?"

She nodded.

"The dance. They must have been attracted by my magic."

"Correct." He said. "I believe after they saw us arguing they must have saw some resemblance to your Councilors. And they must have pushed them or something to kiss each other. Or something like that. That would explain their faces from earlier."

"So that means…" Elsa felt the the heat of embarrassment cover her whole body completely.

Both looked away as they realized what the little snowmen really were up to.

In that moment, the back of her neck felt a tingling sensation and she knew that they were being watched again.

"They are here." She said.

"There!" the Price pointed with his hand. And just by the lake they little snowmen had began to gather around.

But what worried them the most was the big moving wave of white snow moving through the ground as ocean waves.

Elsa knew she had to so something about this. They were her responsibility after all.

"Will you stop following us?" she yelled at them.

The wave kept moving and has been divided into two.

"I guess not." Derek said as he approached her in guarding position.

Elsa sighed. "Any ideas?" she asked him as her head followed the snow waves. The was one coming from one side of the bridge and other coming from the other side.

They were trapped.

"Err..." He sounded hesitant. "Remember you when said they were unpredictable?"

"Yes so?" Elsa produced to walls to block both sizes of the bridge.

"What if…" he paused. "What if, we did something unpredictable then?" He suggested.

The snowgies had reached the walls and had begun climbing over each other to reach the cross the ice walls. Elsa didn't know if the fact they looked so cute an innocent while holding Christmas mistletoe was the thing that made them look even more creepy.

"If you have a plan then let's do it." The Queen quickly said as she held the walls with her magic to not let them fall with the weight of the snowgies. They might be small. But together they were really hard to handle.

"You sure? It might be too crazy and…"

"I won't be able to hold them any longer."

"Okay, okay…" he said. "Just don't turn me into a popsicle when…"

"DEREK!"

"FINE! YOU ASKED FOR IT!"

"WHAT'S THE PLA…?!"

Elsa froze as she felt her elbow being pulled to make her turn and face him. Before she could ask what was he up to, his right hand raised to hold her cheek as the other one held her back to press her towards him in a rough move.

Suddenly she felt as he made her body lean back in a fast move making her braid fall back and hang in the air. She blinked trying to process everything as her body had been bended 90 degrees and he was carrying her weight. Instinctively she raised both of her hands to his chest and grabbed onto his clothes to cling on something.

As she lost concentration the ice walls crumbled letting the snowgies finally reach the top. Above them they shook their tiny heads and that nasty plant with their tiny mouths.

Before they could approach the trapped royals even more, Derek had blinked at Elsa with that mischievous smile he always had when he was about to do something naughty.

Elsa gulped as her throat felt so dry. He wouldn't. Would he?!

She shivered as she felt his thumb caress softly her cheek's injury and then arrange a wild hair of hers to clear her flustered face. And just like that, without any other warning he closed his eyes almost completely and leaned on blocking the light over their heads.

Elsa had only time to hold her breath and grab more fiercely into his jacket and shut her eyes fiercely.

The effect of his actions over her body and poor heart had been more than enough for her magic to reflect on a strong cold wind that bursted out beneath their feet and covered the whole park's lake. The magical wind had left little crystals suspending on mid air as they reflected different colours of Elsa's magic.

The effect of the shocking magic had pushed the walls and the snowgies with them to be thrown away to the corners of the now frozen lake and all around the park. Making the little snowmen fall on it and make swirls around it as if they had been skating.

The bridge had also been modified by Elsa's magic. It has been completely covered in white frost. Leaving almost a winter wonderland picture of the park taken out of a postcard.

But that had been only in the outside. Because what had happened in the inside to the poor Snow Queen had been anything related to feeling cold. In fact she feared her ice dress could melt under his warm embrace. As she herself could swear ahe had started melting inside.

Just like water when it touches hot iron, Elsa could feel as her whole body had reached its boiling point from toes to head as he held her towards him. His warm lips touching her cool skin in contrast. She wondered slightly if her magic could turn into steam instead of ice by this effect.

And what was worst of all. She had seen it coming. At least part of it. He had implied his plan to her with that look, that damn smile and that playful wink.

She knew. For heavens sake she had yelled at him to do it!

And yet, she didn't have enough time to brace herself for it completely.

He had done it just millimeters from her own lips'corner. Tricking the snowmen and almost her by really kissing her but on the cheek. Just as he did, at least for a moment she could have sworn he almost missed and kissed her on the lips instead, which had been the reason of Elsa's true magic reaction.

She thought for a moment he would actually do it on the lips and she knew deep, deep, down that she wouldn't have stop him with an ice wall this time. Her answer had been to shut her eyes and trust him. But all of it had been just part of the illusion. And yet it had felt so very real even for her, that she couldn't stop thinking what would have happened if she had leaned on before he changed his direction at the last second.

Just as quick as it happened it had ended and Elsa felt as he returned her body to a standing position and take away his hands to released her back and face.

The snowgies were staring at them beneath the bridge standing in the frozen lake.

"You can turn me now into a popsicle now. I totally deserve it." She heard the Prince say nervously as the little snowmen just stared at them with them blinking but not anymore interested to chase them.

"How can I?" she found her voice surprisingly easy. "Your crazy plan fooled them."

And it fooled you as well. Her inner voice made its return ready to annoy her.

Of course she would end up freezing the lake, Elsa though. And did it had to be this lake in particular?! For real?

Was the universe mocking her? Did they had do be standing in this same bridge?

Great. Now definitely everytime in the future she saw this bridge she would be reminded of not one but two times they almost …

Elsa felt her face warm as she looked away to not let him notice her flustered face.

"Right. Now if you would excuse me Your Majesty…" The Prince walked towards the frozen rail of the bridge.

Elsa saw as the Prince took a deep breath and then surprisingly he buried his face into the fresh snow over the frozen rail.

She opened her eyes and blinked surprised.

"Derek what do you think you are doing?" she asked worriedly he had lost his mind.

He mumbled something in response.

"I'm sorry what?" she asked.

The young royal emerged his face from the snow to take a breath. "I said, I needed to cool down."

His hair and face were now covered in snow. Corners of his hair now were wet and white and his eyebrows.

"Oh my, your eyebrows. " Elsa couldn't hide her giggle. "They are all white."

"What? Where?" He said as his eyes looked up.

The curious faces of the little snowgies looked at the man with new curiousity and jumped happily for the entertainment this particular man was giving to them.

Elsa had been right. They did liked him. And could she blame them?

She raised her hand to shake away some snow of his eyebrows with her fingers; totally forgetting she could have done it with her magic. If she hadn't been so focused on the task she would have noticed Derek had stiffened a bit as she mechanically touched slightly the side of his face.

"You can be so weird sometimes." Elsa said as she finished shaking away the snow from his hair."Why did bury your face in the snow?" she asked confused.

"I needed to bury my embarrassment. And maybe stay there for a while. Maybe forever?" He admitted as he avoided her eyes. He was trying to smile but all he managed was a funny turn of his lips.

She couldn't avoid laugh at his silly comment.

"Now you laugh?" he asked.

"If I tell you I'm considering running away of all this akwardness and hide in my ice palace, would that make you feel any better?"

And he laughed this time. "Yes. That actually makes me feel a bit better."

And they smiled sheepishly at each other. Letting the awkward embarrassing moment engulf them. At least it seemed to be mutual.

She'd been so focused in herself that now it ocurred to her, that maybe, she hadn't been the only one to be affected by their fake kiss. Derek must have taken lots of courage to do it. If she were the one to get the crazy idea would she still be able to do it? Even for survival purposes?

He had acted quickly even after knowing how Elsa's magic could respond. Evidence of it had been proved just recently when the teolls almost tricked them to marry them. And her magic had stopped him to fall over her.

"So?" he asked her. "What should we do about your sweet little angels here?"

Elsa rolled her eyes ar his sarcastic tone. But he was right. They couldn't leave them here.

So she turned around to look at them.

"Listen everyone." She said out loud and the little snow snowmen raised their heads attentive at their creator.

"Now they listen to you?" Derek crossed his arms in half amusement half upset.

"I told you. They are so unpredictable." She explained.

"Game is over now." Elsa explained them.

They little snowmen looked at Elsa then at Derek. Then at Elsa again. Probably wondering if they had really achieved their goal or not.

Elsa sighed and massaged her temple.

Before she lost her courage Elsa grabbed Derek's hand and held it. The Prince sensing her ulterior motive showed at them their joint hands.

"Are you happy now?" Elsa said feeling so red in the face after her words came out of her mouth. "Now game is over."

"You won little guys!" Derek suddenly said as he swinged their hands playfully. "See?"

And the little snowgies seemed to finally understand the royals' explanation. And suddenly they were jumping happily. Throwing to the air the mistletoe in celebration.

Elsa and Derek then sighed in relief. They had finally fell for it. But at what cost?

Maybe she could still run to her ice castle if she asked Marshmallow to take her.

"That's it!" she said suddenly.

"What is it?" he asked her. "Please tell me you know what to do with them?"

She nodded silently.

"Okay everyone." She said raising once again her voice. "We are going to the play a new game now. This is called being a good snowman. Ready to play?"

The little ones nodded exited.

"And rules are simple. We need to get to the castle in silence and avoid being seen. Marshmallow will be there. And you'll stay with him. Ready to play?"

They turned their heads hesitant. They didn't deemed convinced.

"If you do that," Derek suddenly intervened. "Elsa here will tell Santa you were good lads and he will bring you a new ice slide for Christmas. How's that?"

Elsa turned at him. For real? She asked her silently as she raised one of her eyebrows.

What? He shrugged.

The little snowmen exchanged looks with each other and then looked up at the humans in front of them.

They nodded in response.

"See. It worked." Derek whispered.

"Fine." She answered whispering. "They'll get their slide made of ice."

The little snowmen nodded with their heads. They seemed to have agreed to be good for the sake of Santa getting them a new toy.

"So Big Guy? You sure he can handle them?" the Prince asked.

"He's learnt to handle them." Elsa explained as she released his hand and made the rest of her ice and snow vanish with a swirl of her hands.

"And what about the mistletoe?" he asked. "These guys and that creepy plant are a dangerous combination."

"Indeed they are." She agreed. "We better take it with us."

Elsa concentrated and with her magic she gathered all the nasty little Christmas weed with her magic into a big bundle levitating in the air.

"N- ice." The Primce whistled as he admired her magic. Elsa tried to ignore the flattering as she needed to focus on her magic and carry the frozen mistletoe.

"After the fire the prize for this plant must have gone really high. Maybe I can ask Kai to find a buyer and we could garher money to help rebuild something small. Like this bridge for example."

"I like the sound of that." The Prince added. "It could be our little secret joke."

"And of course you wouldn't say no to a joke."

"You know I wood never. Get it because the bridge is made of …"

"Wood. Yes." She simply sighed. "I get it. And still not funny."

"You wound me Elsa." He said dramatically as always.

She ignored him. "Come on. We should ge to the castle before Christmas dinner is served and the others return from the plaza gathering."

"So," he asked. "About the others? We are not telling anything right?"

"And let Anna rain us with questions about that thing?" She pointed at the plant. "No. We are keeping this to ourselves."

"Good to know we are on the same page." He sighed in relief. "I couldn't survive any more embarrassment today. Or ever."

Elsa cleared her voice. Neither could she.

"Besides," Elsa added trying to sound normal."If she sees you limping after all that dancing and running she'll know we didn't took care of our injuries. We better say we got tired and went back to the Castle. I was being honest when I said it earlier. I really would like to skip another dose of reindeer tonic at least for Christmas If I can." The Queen quickly said as she tried to hide the disgust in her face as she remembered the taste on her mouth.

"How about a dose of wine and chocolate then?" the Prince suddenly suggested playfully.

Elsa couldn't avoid turn to him and smile in agreement. How did he always know what to say.

"Now THAT'S a good plan." She said.
