Childhood Memories
They were best friends when kids,
but they decided to take different paths.
But life wanted them together.
Chapter 1: House
It was a lovely morning at 11:07 am at the Hyūga household. A little chilly on that Sunday in Spring, but perfect for spending time drinking tea and having light conversation.
"What do you think they are doing in that house?" Mikoto Uchiha asked looking ahead a the cure children's house under a canopy tree.
"I did not think Sasuke-chan would've entered willingly to Hinata's doll house," Hitomi Hyūga giggled with her friend.
The garden was beautiful, with continuous crocus flowers and some lingering daffodils on the grass, the koi pond was gaudy with all the healthy water plants and fishes alike. It was a beautiful sight and Hitomi's pride and joy. However, she did not mind sharing the space with the newly acquired house she got for her eldest daughter.
The initial idea was that now that she had two daughters when Hanabi was old enough she could play with her older sister and spend time creating a strong bond, having been an only child Hitomi's greatest wish was to have siblings, and she was immensely happy to have provided that to her dear daughter Hinata.
But she did have a sister life had given her, and it was the woman beside her, Mikoto. They had been inseparable since they met in high school, and from then on it was the two of them. Mikoto is more outgoing and brave and Hitomi shy and kind. They were a perfect match, and now that they had children closer in age they hoped they could have a close friendship like they had.
"I just hope, Sasu is not being too bossy on poor Hinata-chan," Mikoto commented after sipping on her jasmine tea.
"Hinata usually complies but even she has a stubborn streak," the Hyūga shared.
"Well, that's just what Sasuke needs." the Uchiha mentioned. "I fear Itachi spoils Sasuke too much, he needs a 'no' every once in a while,"
"You can also tell him no, Miko," Hitomi pointed out playfully, but not blaming her, she had her streak of spoiling her dear daughter.
"I know!" she said in a way that reminded her of when they were in school and she used to groan in annoyance. "But Sasu is my baby, is hard to tell him no when inflates his cheeks in anger.
Hitomi laughed at her best friend's antics.
On the other side of the house, little Sasuke and Hinata were looking at the house.
"It's too girly," the Uchiha had mentioned looking wearily around.
"Well, it is a girl's house," Hinata said, accommodating some dolls on the flower-engraved shelf.
"Hmp." he pursed his lips in a way that reminded Hinata how he resembled a fish when he did it. "Let's play ninja,"
"We always do that," the girl pointed out. "Let's just play here," she offered.
"That sounds so boring," he groaned.
"Please," the pearl eyes begged him and he rolled his eyes.
"Fine, but just for ten minutes,"
"That's fine," Hinata smiled, and that made him too without noticing, he grabbed a random doll a humored her friend.
After a couple of minutes, he got visibly bored. "Why don't we play both games?" Sasuke offered.
"Huh?" her expression was a questioning one.
"Yeah..." he said expressing his idea."Why don't we pretend we are Ninja, but the dolls are our kids, and I go out and you stay here,"
"So mom and dad?" she asked.
"Yeah..." he said lazily, looking to the side, suddenly feeling kinda nervous.
"Fine," she said, not caring as long as she could spend time with her dolls. She thought it was fair, them being completely happy doing each activity.
"I'll be out," he grabbed some plastic shuriken, "Take care of the kids and call me if you need anything," he said quoting what her father told her month every time he went to work, not understanding what he meant.
"Ok." she had said, returning to dressing the dolls and brushing some hair.
"Hinata," Sasuke called his face in one of the windows.
"Yes?" she looked at her friend, finding him comical by the way his head floated around the flowered-covered windowsill. "You are supposed to say 'okaeri' when I enter again, ok?"
"Ok, Sasuke," she had said not listening as if she was concentrating on a particular doll she had been thinking of giving to her sister Hanabi.
"Tadaima," Sasuke said a little dramatically.
"Okaeri," she said with less enthusiasm, still distracted by her initial task.
"No!" he groaned a bit. "That's not how you say it!" Sasuke said.
"I did say it," she said.
"But not in the right way," he criticized.
Hinata was not sure what he meant by the right way, but she'd humor him. "Ok, let's do it again,"
The young Uchiha closed the door. "Do it right!" he screamed from the outside.
Seconds go past and he opens the door again. "Tadaima," and in his little black eyes, she was begging for her to do it right.
"Okaeri, Sasuke-kun," she said and gave her a nervous smile.
But that seemed to do the trick as he gave her the most boyish smile ever. That was the first time Hinata had felt butterflies in her tummy.
