Summary: An OC/Gamer story set in the DxD universe. An average guy dies and is reincarnated into the DxD universe. With the advantage of broken skills, a Sacred Gear and meta knowledge, the DxD universe will never know what hit it! Elements pulled from other animes, but no actual crossover.
OP!OC, Gamer, Harem/Multi
I don't own Highschool DxD, Seven Deadly Sins, or any other elements of this story except the order these words were put in.
The Sunlit Path to Power
I'd like to say my death came in a noble blaze of glory, heroically sacrificing myself for King and country. Failing that, I wouldn't have minded going of old age, surrounded by loved ones and friends. But like most people in this world, it came randomly, swiftly and unexpectedly. I stepped out of the shower one morning and reached for a towel as I put my foot down on the wet floor. My foot shot out from underneath me, physics took over and the back of my head was introduced to the metal rim of the shower door. An unremarkable, accidental death. Not outlandish enough to be included on any TV shows, or reckless enough to be cautionary tale for future generations. I remember desperately trying to cling to the shooting pain as the bathroom light stared down on my prone form like a dispassionate eye, fighting and clawing at that beam of light in my mind while my body refused to listen to the desperate orders to get up, move, do anything to escape this fate. As everything blurred into darkness, I only felt a deep sense of regret. The most I had to show for my life was a biology degree collecting dust in my closet and a mundane nine to five job. I felt a pang of regret for my parents and brother, the only real close relationships I had in my life, having to deal with this. Then it was all gone.
I didn't expect to wake up again. The pain, the regret, the cold resignation—they all felt final. But as the darkness faded, I became aware of something else. I wasn't standing, yet I wasn't lying down either. My body felt weightless, suspended in a space where no up or down existed. The world around me—or what I could perceive of it—was an endless white expanse, neither bright nor dim. It wasn't comforting like the cliché of heaven, nor terrifying like some hellish nightmare. It justwas.
For a moment, I wondered if this was what death truly felt like: a featureless limbo where nothing happens, forever. Then, without warning, the silence shattered.
"ERROR DETECTED. UNEXPECTED SOUL TRANSFER IN PROGRESS."
The words weren't spoken aloud but rang through the space like the toll of a great bell, each syllable resonating in my chest. Before I could even process what that meant, the whiteness around me began to fracture like glass, spiderweb cracks spreading out in all directions. A new sensation gripped me—a pull, like a current dragging me under. My body, or whatever I was now, lurched forward, plunging into the abyss as the world splintered apart.
I fell, or at least it felt like falling. There was no wind, no sensation of air rushing past me. Just the pull of an unseen force, growing stronger, dragging me through a swirling vortex of light and shadow. Colors I couldn't name danced and collided around me, forming impossible shapes that dissolved as quickly as they appeared. My mind struggled to make sense of it, but logic was ill equipped to deal with whatever I was seeing.
"INITIALIZING REINCARNATION SYSTEM..."
That damned voice again. This time it sounded more... mechanical, like some poorly programmed AI. I couldn't decide if that made things better or worse. A glowing interface materialized in front of me, floating in the void like a hologram.
[Welcome, [UNKNOWN]! Your demise has qualified you for reincarnation within The System. Please wait while your existence is calculated]
My nonexistent jaw dropped as I stared at the floating window. The what? Before I could protest—or even comprehend—lines of text began scrolling rapidly across the screen:
[Scanning soul matrix...]
[Analyzing potential...]
[Assigning starting parameters...]
"Wait, wait, wait," I stammered, trying to make sense of the absurdity. "What the hell is going on?!" Despite the lack of a mouth or any other appendages, I heard my voice echo in the unforgiving void around me. To my mild surprise and considerable disappointment, my question was ignored.
[Insufficient achievements detected. Default parameters assigned.]
"Insufficient achievements? That's just rude," I muttered. "I may not have done all that much, but it wasn't like I was some shut-in NEET!"

Before I could protest, the pull beneath me grew stronger, and the swirling chaos around me shifted. I was moving faster now, hurtling toward a single point of light far below.
"Wait, wait, wait! I'm not ready for this!" I shouted, but it was no use. The void swallowed my words, and the light consumed me.
"Well this is a first," the amused voice roused me. I shot up, eyes darting around. I was sitting in a pleasantly decorated office across from a kindly looking older man, white hair framing sparkling blue eyes as he smiled at me.
"Sorry, what's going on here?" I demanded as I took the scene in. "One second I'm getting bombarded with these messages, them I'm falling through space and now I wake up in the principal's office? Who the hell are you, old man?!"
"Oh that's a new one," the figure laughed, ignoring my questions. "I suppose it does give off that appearance, perhaps I should get a designer in here…" His eyes darted around the room as the thoughtfully stroked his chin.
"Hey old man!" I exploded, standing up and pointing in anger at him. "What thefuckis going on here? Is this a bad joke? A trip? Start talking before I beat the answers out of you!"
"While it would be amusing to see you try, I promise that wouldn't be a good idea," he chuckled kindly again but for a brief moment an oppressive aura welled around him and it was all I could do to stay standing as his blue eyes, now cold and hard as sapphires pierced me. The pressure let up and I was able to sink back into my chair, watching him warily. He steepled his fingers and stared at me.
"My name is Administrator Tau. To put it bluntly, you died. While your soul was traveling to its next destination, it apparently slipped through the cracks of your home dimension and landed in this one. Our reincarnation system picked you up as it would any soul from this dimension, but while it attempted to process you, you generated an anomaly and were sent to me for review and if necessary, deletion." He smiled as though he'd just told me something very comforting, a sentiment I didn't share.
"An anomaly? I'm just an ordinary guy," I sputtered, still struggling to wrap my head around this whole concept. Growing up Catholic had not prepared me for dealing with reincarnation.
"Yes, based on the information the system pulled from you during prep there really was nothing special about you in your home dimension," Tau sighed dramatically as he picked up a manilla folder sitting on his desk. "Crossing the dimensions is something we speculated could occur, but until now it hadn't. Your being here shouldn't be possible, yet here you are. The other administrators would just delete you and be done with it, you know."
"Is that what you're going to do?" I swallowed heavily as he stared at me again, brow furrowing before he burst out laughing.
"Nah kid, forget the impossibility of you crossing dimensions, I'd never delete a soul the System bestowed so many favors to. We do have to finish your integration though." With a wave of his hand, a blue window popped up and he frowned at it. "Oh yes, that won't do. Makes sense why the System would lock that skill now." He pursed his lips as he stared at me. "Protocol here would be to give you a skill in an equivalent tier, but to be frank I don't have any skill I could give you that's on par with your locked skill. If you wanted, I could get you born as Devil nobility, or maybe give you a high-tier Sacred Gear? Even then…" his voice faded into the background as I stared at him, my realization growing.
"Hold on," I interrupted him as I placed my head into my hands. "You did say Sacred Gear didn't you?" The old man nodded as though pleased.
"Of course! I assume you had them in your home dimension too?"
"You could say that," I muttered, unable to believe the information I was hearing. I still needed to confirm it however. "So if I asked for say, Divine Dividing or the Boosted Gear?"
"Ah, I couldn't give you those two as they currently have wielders," he grimaced. "There are several other Longinus class sacred gears I could assign you if you wanted instead?"
I sat back, struggling to keep my face neutral.I'm in fucking Highschool DxD!My mind swirling with possibilities, I mull over my options. I finally look back at the Administrator. "Alright, I'll take a Sacred Gear," I struggle to keep the greed out of my voice. "What have you got?"
He frowns as he pulls up another window, scrolling through a list. "Hmm, it seems most of the Longinus gears already have wielders right now. I suppose I could make an exception for you and evolve something if these don't suit your tastes?"
I glance through the list, a frown forming on my face as I do. Only four Longinus gears are offered, and I don't know much about most of them. I don't want to take one and find out it's something that doesn't fit me or regret my choice later down the line. I pause while reading the description for a sacred gear I hadn't heard of before as a sneaking suspicion begins to worm into my brain.
"Say, Administrator Tau, my unique skill is going to be locked until this System can integrate it right?" I ask, casually. He raises an eyebrow at my question but nods his confirmation.
"That's right, it doesn't originate in this dimension so the System will need to assimilate it. It could take years or decades, but the process could be accelerated by how well your growth lines up with the skills abilities and ideals."
It's crazy right, I reason to myself. There's no way it could be THAT skill. But if it is, I can't pass up this chance. "Is there a way to read the skill description while it's locked?"
"Sure, just call for your status window, from there you should be able to touch it and read the description."Following his directions, I call "Status window!" A blue box appears before me.

I was a bit disappointed by not being able to see any of my stats, but if I was just a soul right now it made sense that I wouldn't have any yet. I reached out and touched the text for the Otherworlder skill first and a separate box flashed up.
[Otherworlder (U)]
A foreign soul has slipped through the cracks between dimensions, ending up in a place it was never meant to be. The laws which govern the world are weakened against the user.
Effects:
-Growth of all statuses 10%
-The user gains System access during current incarnation
-The user retains the memories of their past incarnation
All in all, I was kind of disappointed. The skills text was vague and besides a ten percent growth boost, was kind of a letdown. The system access text intrigued me, if I could visualize this system, it could potentially give me a useful way to direct my growth. I wasn't going to complain too much about keeping my knowledge of the plot here though. I dismiss the text with a wave and turn my attention to my other skill. As I read the floating text, a maniacal grin starts spreading across my face. If the System was going to give me a skill like this, I wouldn't have to worry about getting caught up in the drama of the main plot too much. I look back at the Administrator sitting patiently before me.
"I've decided which Sacred Gear I want." I indicate my chosen gear on the list and hand it back to him. He stares at it for a moment, then me, a matching grin joining mine.
"Oh, I suspected you'd be interesting, but this takes my breath away. The other administrators and I will be watching your turn of the wheel very closely." He adjusts a few buttons in one of his windows and I feel something settle into my soul. "Your new Sacred Gear should be visible in your status window, and a suitable vessel for your soul has been located. I wish you the best of luck in our dimension." With a wave of his hand, my vision begins to dim as I feel my soul being pulled away once again. As everything starts to darken, the text of my skill remains bright in my vision, the white letters burning against blue the last thing I see before everything goes black.
[The One who Stands Above All (U)]*
At high noon, there is only One. The user embodies the pinnacle of power, radiance and dominance, surpassing gods and mortals alike. For a fleeting moment, the user is invincible, untouchable and absolute- the very embodiment of the sun's unmatched glory.
Effects:
-While active, the user's statuses gain an exponential bonus
-While active, any damage dealt by the user gains the ABSOLUTE property
-The user projects an aura of fear, lowering the statuses and morale of any enemy
-Time Limit: This skill has a time limit of one minute. After this minute, the user reverts to their base statuses
WARNING: The burden of such an overwhelming skill was not meant for mortal bodies.
*Due to the foreign origin of this skill, skill is locked until complete System Assimilation. Estimated time to Assimilation: 223y, 41d, 5h, 22s*
And so, I was reincarnated into the DxD universe. Thankfully my soul took up residence in my new body after my birth, so I didn't have to deal with experiencing the miracle of childbirth firsthand. Unsurprisingly for someone who could fuck up the storyline of the universe so badly, I was reincarnated into an average family living in Kuoh. My new mom and dad were kind, average people. Their greatest goal in life was to see my success, and I tried to play my part for their sake. Even if I didn't want it to, I had a feeling the storyline was going to seek me out before too long. I had read enough fanfiction to know how these kinds of situations typically went down. After thinking about it, I had much less of a problem with being railroaded here than I did initially. While Issei had managed to overcome most of the trials he faced, he was still objectively a terrible hero, flailing his way through his fights and usually winning due to plot armor. Half the stuff he did to women should have seen him thrown in jail anyways, and once I really thought about it, he didn't deserve any of the girls he got. With the barest amount of effort, I was sure I could solve most of the main story and potentially reap the rewards that fumbling pervert had hoarded.
I did still have to deal with the frustrations of being a grown man trapped in a kid's body, which quickly singled me out as a 'freak' to my fellow children, even as my intellect and maturity made adults wary of me. Even my new parents didn't know how to treat me, and as a result, I mostly ended up being left to my own devices. Being half-Japanese with a white Dad was another mark against me in the eyes of those around me. I was just another Gaijin boy who preferred to be on his own reading or studying quietly.
I wasn't idle during this second childhood and spent most of my time training as I prepared for the events of the main story to come about. I managed to unlock the Sacred Gear Administrator Tau had given me at the age of six and had spent countless hours honing my skills with it. Thinking about it brought a smirk to my face and I unconsciously called up my status window.

I pressed on the text for the Sacred Gear, a slight smile coming to my face as I read the description once more.
[Sacred Gear: Sol Invictus]
The unconquered sun burns eternally, a testament to unyielding power and radiant glory. With this divine weapon, the user wields the fury and majesty of the sun itself, illuminating a path to victory for your allies while reducing your enemies to ash.
Effects:
-The user can manifest the divine axe Sol Invictus at will. Time of manifestation depends on level of mastery.
-The user can generate an aura of sunlight, healing allies and damaging enemies based on Magic Status
-Further effects will be unlocked as mastery increases
-Current level of mastery: 17%
With the boost to my statuses from my reincarnation, and my command over a weapon of light, I figured I could hold my own against any of the lower tier supernatural beings that would appear early in the timeline. I had avoided making waves so far, keeping my head down and only training in secret, but that was all about to come to an end. I looked up at the gates of Kuoh Academy before me, smirking as I walked through them. By the time I was done with this world, it wouldn't know what had hit it.
Guess who's back! I had a hell of a year between school, moving, work and family issues, but I'm back with a brand-new story. Thanks to everyone who enjoyed my work so far on this site, I've enjoyed some good OC/Gamer fics this year and wanted to try my hand at my own take on it. I want to start rolling out a few different stories to keep my motivation up, I'm done with school after this spring semester, so I will have a lot more time to write next year. I will be updating Harry Potter and the Sacred Gear next, then I plan to drop another new story and somewhere in there I will circle back to this one, depending on how well it's received.
