Chapter 6

Robert 3:12 pm

After their little get-together in the rain, they went inside to Cora's bedroom for another round of passionate love-making. Now, lying together in the warm afterglow, Robert felt the weight of something he needed to get off his chest. He took a deep breath, preparing himself to speak honestly.

"I am sorry I did not tell you about Jane, I should have done that and tell you the truth about what we did, but I guess I was afraid for your reaction." He squeezes her soft hand with his. All he ever wanted was for her to be happy with him, but in the time of the war he took her for granted and forgot what really mattered to him, that is something he will never forgive himself.

"I was not going to leave you if that is what you were afraid of. I might have gone away, to London or maybe even America, but I was never going to leave you." She declared.

"How did you find out?" He regrets having to ask her that question, but he wants to get over this topic as quickly as possible and he wants her to know the whole story, so there will be know secrets between them.

Cora sighs deeply. "I saw the financial papers were stood that you are sponsoring a Freddie Moorsum and I remembered that he's Jane's boy. I did find it a bit odd for you sponsoring the maid's son but I knew that you are a good man and great with children so I thought nothing of it. Then when Jane resigned Mrs. Hughes said that it might be for the best and I never had a good explanation why she left, but with your recent behaviour I kind of put two and two together."

"But why didn't confront me?"

"Because at that moment we were alright and I didn't want to ruin that." She whispered.

He grabs her hand and kisses it, while tears are running down his cheeks. "I'm so sorry. I don't deserve you. I was a fool and I don't understand how you could have find it in your heart to forgive me my darling."

She chuckles, but then she got serious again. "I just hope you could find it in your heart to forgive me for all I have done."

He puts his hands on her slender waist and covers her naked body with his. "Oh my darling, you have done nothing to be forgiven for." With that he claims her full lips with his own and kisses her worries and doubts away.

Mr. Bricker is going to be sorry.

Bricker 10:38 pm

His hotel room at the Ritz looked splendidly. The king-sized bed was surrounded by dozens of flickering candles, their glow casting a warm ambiance. Rose petals were scattered across the floor and bed, creating a romantic atmosphere. The fire in the fireplace crackled softly, adding a cozy touch to the elegant setting.

To bad he didn't have anyone to share it with.

Simon grabs the bottle of champagne out of the ice bucket and opens it with a pop. So Cora rejected him, again. It is getting annoying, first she openly flirts with him and then when he wants to cherish her and be there for her, she gets all naïve and nervous. Oh he knows she wants him, what kind of woman doesn't? He is handsome, he is charming, he is a good friend and not to mention: he is an amazing lover. Yes she loves him, she only doesn't know it yet. He will help her realize that, because they are mend to be together and he'll will take whatever it takes to make her his.

He walks to the telephone that comes with the expensive room. "Operator? 123 Baker Street please." He waits until the person on the other side of the line picks up. A deep voice answers the call.

"Sir Perceval Blakeney speaking."

"Percy, it's Simon. I'm at the Ritz, I need to speak to you."

He hears a low chuckle from his friend.

"Oh I see. You are having a problem with a certain woman, or should I say lady?"

He told his friend all about the love affair he and Cora have. Percy called him daft to be in a relationship with a married woman, he said that once you slept with them you'd better end it before the husband finds out the affair and there'll be hell to pay. But that wasn't going to happen for him and Cora. Lord Grantham might have succeeded in removing him from her room, but not from her life, and the brute of a man certainly cannot stand as a permanent barrier between them.

Nothing stands in the way of true love.

"Yes she couldn't come, her husband is home and he wanted to visit her this night, she told me. So I said to her that she should stay, in case he gets abusive." He lied.

"I didn't think Lord Grantham hits his wife, I never thought of him as abusive. Are you sure?"

Simon lets his fingers trace his aching jaw, a embarrassing remembrance of last night.

"Yes I'm sure."

"Hmm. You wanted to talk to me about something?"

"Yes but not now, somewhere private."

Hello again! I'm so sorry for the time you had to wait for this update, but I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I really think a got better at writing (especially chapter 1 was bad).

I'll probably won't update until next year, since I'm so slow, so I wish you all a happy and healthy 2025!
