Chapter 16 - King and Queen Act 4
Two days had passed since the operation, and the atmosphere in Jinx's lair was calm compared to the chaos that reigned in Zaun. Naruto found himself unable to sleep, his thoughts a tangle of emotions and clarity he hadn't experienced in years. He quietly slipped out of the room, careful not to disturb Jinx, who was curled up in her bed, her face soft and peaceful in slumber. Across the room, Isha lay on a makeshift bed, clutching a notebook close to her chest. Earlier, she had written her name for them, her shy smile the only thing breaking the tension that seemed ever present.
Naruto pulled his hood up as he stepped outside. The air of Zaun was thick, carrying the acrid scent of burning shimmer and the faint metallic tang of blood. The streets were in disarray, littered with debris and the echoes of shouted arguments from the Chembarons gangs, now vying for control in the vacuum left by Silco's death.
The city had always been harsh, but now it was tearing itself apart. Naruto wandered through the shadows, avoiding the attention of anyone who might recognize him. His glowing blue eyes flickered faintly beneath the hood, scanning the scene with an unsettling calm. Zaun without leadership was a ship without a rudder, veering dangerously toward destruction.
As he walked, his gaze landed on a wall plastered with wanted posters. One image immediately drew his attention a wild eyed portrait of Jinx, her face twisted into a manic grin. She looked unhinged, a caricature of the person he knew so well. His chest tightened as he pulled the poster off the wall, crumpling it in his hand. It wasn't her not really. Not the Jinx he saw in quiet moments, the one who smiled softly when she thought no one was looking.
Next to her poster was another. His own face stared back at him, shrouded in shadows with piercing, glowing blue eyes that seemed to bore into his soul. The expression was one of pure menace, a harbinger of destruction. His hands clenched as he ripped the poster down, holding it for a long moment as he stared at the likeness.
"Is that what I've become?" he muttered under his breath, his voice tinged with disbelief.
The new core in his chest thrummed faintly, its power settling into him with every passing day. Everything felt sharper, clearer now. His mind wasn't clouded by the chaos it once was, but with clarity came a new kind of burden. Did he really look so… unhinged? So far removed from the boy he had once been?
He folded the poster, slipping it into his pocket. It wasn't just about how he looked. It was about who he had become, the choices he had made, and the path he now walked. The glow of his eyes dimmed as he lowered his hood further, continuing his walk through the fractured city.
Zaun was crumbling. The streets were filled with fear and violence, a stark reminder of the power vacuum Silco's death had created. Naruto's fists tightened at his sides. Zaun had been Silco's dream, and in his own way, Naruto had believed in it too. Now it was a nightmare, spiralling out of control with no one to guide it.
He paused at the edge of a crumbling alley, looking out over the cityscape. Smoke rose in thin, dark tendrils from various corners of Zaun, and faint shouts echoed in the distance. The Chembarons were tearing each other apart, their greed and ambition blinding them to the bigger picture.
For the first time in a long while, Naruto felt a pang of something close to guilt. He had been so focused on his own survival, on Jinx, on vengeance, that he hadn't stopped to think about the city itself.
"It's all falling apart," he murmured, his voice almost swallowed by the noise around him.
But as the words left his lips, he felt the core in his chest pulse faintly, a quiet reminder of the power he now held. He looked back at the crumpled poster in his pocket and thought of Jinx and Isha, still asleep in the lair.
He couldn't deny what he had become. But the question remained, what would he do with it now?
Naruto stepped back into Jinx's lair, he stripped off his shirt, tossing it aside, revealing his newly implanted core. The blue crystal embedded in his chest pulsed with life, casting a soft, glow that lit up the room. Scars spidered out from the core, a testament to the harrowing operation that had saved his life. His fingertips grazed the jagged lines.
Closing his eyes, Naruto focused inward, feeling the core hum with energy, its power coiled and waiting. He extended his arm, tracing the faint runes etched into his wrist. With a thought, they lit up, crimson lightning sparking to life in his palm. The arcs danced across his fingers, crackling with untamed intensity. This was his new power, but it was also something he didn't fully understand.
"I need to learn more about these runes," he muttered to himself, his voice low but resolute.
The faint sound of a step drew his attention. He turned his head slightly to see Jinx standing at the entrance to the room, her hair dishevelled from sleep, her eyes carrying the faint remnants of dreams or perhaps nightmares. She watched him quietly for a moment before stepping closer, a smile tugging at her lips.
"You're up early," she teased, her voice soft but playful. Her arms slid around his neck as she pressed herself against his back, her fingers trailing over the glowing core. Her touch was light, almost reverent, as if she were afraid to break him.
Naruto leaned into her warmth, letting out a quiet sigh. "Couldn't sleep," he admitted. "There's… too much to think about."
Jinx rested her chin on his shoulder, her eyes tracing the lines of the core as it pulsed faintly beneath her fingertips. "It's strange," she said, her voice distant. "Seeing this thing in you… knowing it's keeping you alive. It's kind of beautiful. But also... scary."
Naruto turned his head to look at her, his expression softening. "It's the only thing keeping me here," he said. "And it's why we need to be careful now."
Jinx's brow furrowed. "Careful? About what?"
Naruto's gaze turned serious as he gestured toward the door. "Zaun is talking. I heard people whispering about what happened with the explosion. Some of the council members… they're dead. Piltover isn't going to let this go, Jinx. They'll be coming for us."
Jinx stiffened, her playful demeanour fading. Her eyes locked onto his, searching for something. "Let them come," she said fiercely. "We've been through worse. They can't take us down."
Naruto shook his head, placing a hand over hers where it rested on his chest. "It's not just them, Jinx. Zaun's tearing itself apart. The Chembarons are fighting to take control, and without Silco, the city's wide open for Piltover to march in and crush us."
Jinx bit her lip, the weight of his words settling over her. "So what do we do?" she asked, her voice quieter now.
Naruto turned to face her fully, his hands resting lightly on her shoulders. "We take control. I'll step in for Silco. Someone needs to bring order to Zaun, or it's all going to collapse."
Jinx tilted her head, her pink eyes scanning his face. "You want to be the big boss now, huh?" she said, a faint grin returning to her lips. "If that's what you want to do… sure. But what if they don't listen?"
Naruto's jaw tightened, his gaze unwavering. "Then I'll make them listen. Whatever it takes. For Zaun."
Jinx studied him for a moment, her grin growing wider. "I like this new side of you," she said, her tone teasing. "But don't go forgetting who's the real boss around here." Before he could respond, she pulled him into a kiss, catching him off guard.
For a brief moment, everything else faded away the chaos, the fear, the uncertainty. It was just the two of them, holding onto each other like anchors in the storm. When they finally pulled apart, Jinx's grin softened into something more genuine.
"You're not dying on me, got it?" she said, her voice tinged with both mischief and sincerity. "I won't let anyone take you away."
Naruto smiled faintly, brushing a strand of blue hair from her face. "I know. But let me do the protecting now, okay?"
She rolled her eyes but nodded. "Fine. Just don't get too full of yourself."
Naruto chuckled, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I'll talk to Sevika. We'll call a meeting with the Chem-Barons and get them in line. If we can stabilize Zaun, we'll have a chance."
Jinx smirked, grabbing his hand and dragging him toward the bed. "You can deal with that tomorrow," she said, her playful tone returning. "Right now, you're mine."
Naruto let himself be pulled along, a rare moment of levity breaking through the tension. For now, at least, they had each other. And that was enough.
Sevika stood at the head of the table, facing the three remaining Chembarons. The air was thick with unspoken rivalries and simmering resentment. Margot, Chross, and Smeech eyed each other warily, their mutual distrust palpable. Sevika inhaled deeply, gripping the edge of the table.
"We've all suffered setbacks," she began, her gravelly voice cutting through the heavy silence. "Piltover is pushing into our territory, and we're tearing each other apart when we should be standing together. We need to halt the turf wars and focus on the real threat."
Margot, reclining lazily in her chair, twirled a knife between her fingers. "Focus on what, exactly?" she said, her voice dripping with scepticism. "The real threat is sitting right here. Chross has been sniffing around my trade routes since Silco died, and Smeech can't keep his hands off the docks."
Chross leaned forward, his scarred face twisted in a scowl. "You've got plenty of routes, Margot. A little sharing wouldn't kill you."
"It might," Margot shot back, her eyes narrowing.
Sevika slammed her prosthetic hand on the table, the metallic clang silencing the room. "Enough! This isn't about your petty rivalries. It's about survival. Piltover is hitting us hard, and we don't have Silco to hold things together anymore. We need to be smart, or we'll lose everything."
Smeech leaned back in his chair, his mechanical limbs whirring softly. His Yordle face twisted into a sly grin. "And what do you propose, Sevika? We all hold hands and sing songs about unity? Let's face it: without Silco, you've got no leverage."
Sevika glared at him but kept her composure. "We can't afford to keep fighting each other. If we don't unite, Piltover will wipe us out. This is our chance to secure Zaun's future."
Margot tapped the blade of her knife against the table, her expression sceptical. "And what exactly are we uniting under? You? Don't make me laugh."
Sevika didn't flinch. "I'm not asking you to follow me. I'm asking you to work together. For Zaun."
Smeech chuckled, his mechanical arm tapping rhythmically against the table. "Touching speech, Sevika. But there's a simpler solution." He leaned forward, his grin widening. "We hand over the root of Piltover's aggression Jinx and Naruto. We give them what they want, and we keep our operations intact."
Sevika's eyes narrowed. "You want to hand over our own? Are you out of your mind?"
Smeech shrugged. "Call it pragmatic. They're the ones causing all this heat. Without them, Piltover might back off. And let's be honest, they've done more harm than good for Zaun."
Margot raised an eyebrow, her gaze flicking to Sevika. "He's not entirely wrong. Jinx has been nothing but chaos, and Naruto's no better. If giving them up keeps us safe…"
Sevika's jaw tightened, her prosthetic fingers flexing involuntarily. "You're talking about betraying two of our own. That's not how we do things."
Smeech smirked. "Oh, please. Don't act like you're above it. Besides…" He gestured to her prosthetic arm. "I could make you a new one. State of the art. No more hand me downs."
Sevika's glare could have cut steel, but Smeech didn't seem fazed. "Think about it, Sevika. You're barely holding onto control as it is. This deal keeps everyone happy well, everyone who matters."
The room fell silent, the tension thick enough to choke on. Sevika's eyes darted between the Chembarons, weighing her options. Betrayal or survival. Her grip on the table tightened, but before she could respond, a faint crackle of energy echoed through the room.
Naruto appeared in a flash, his hood pulled low over his face, his presence commanding. He strode toward the table, his movements deliberate and precise. "Good idea, Sevika," he said, his voice cold. "Letting you lead this meeting gave me the chance to see who I'm dealing with."
All eyes turned to him, the room buzzing with unease. Naruto's icy gaze swept over each Chembarons in turn. "And now I know exactly what needs to be done."
Jinx entered the room next, her stride as confident as ever, her pistol casually dangling from her hand. Behind her, Isha trailed along, her wide eyes observing everything, though she seemed more preoccupied with tinkering with one of Jinx's grenades. The sight of the trio entering as a unified front sent a ripple of unease through the room.
Smeech's mechanical limbs creaked as he stood, his annoyance barely masked. "So, the Blue Eyed Demon and his little circus finally show up. Last I heard, you were dying." His tone was dismissive, bordering on disrespectful.
Naruto smiled faintly, though there was no warmth in it. "News travels slow. As you can see, I'm very much alive." He stepped forward, his presence filling the room. "And I'm here to let you all know Jinx and I aren't going anywhere. This city is ours."
Margot leaned back in her chair, her dirty blonde hair dyed black at the tips shimmering under the light. She studied Naruto with a curious smile, her voice laced with playful teasing. "I had a feeling you'd take over one day. Silco must've seen it too. I'm impressed." Her tone shifted slightly, dipping into something flirtatious. "And I'm happy to follow someone like you."
Before Naruto could respond, Jinx's pistol thudded onto the table as she leaned in, her pink eyes locked onto Margot. "Keep talking," Jinx said, her voice low and dangerous, "and I might show you how happy I am to have you on our side."
Margot chuckled, raising her hands in mock surrender. "Point taken."
Chross, seated across from Margot, adjusted his coat, his weathered face set in thought. "If you can deliver what Silco promised, control, stability, and trade, I'm in. But if you're expecting miracles overnight…"
Naruto nodded. "Trade will reopen," he said, his tone firm. "But shimmer production will stop. It's destroying Zaun."
The room went silent. Smeech stood again, his mechanical limbs clanking as he slammed a metallic fist onto the table. "Are you insane? Shimmer is our lifeline! Without it, we lose influence, power, everything."
Naruto remained still, his expression calm, almost detached. "It's not power, Smeech. It's poison. It's killing Zaun from the inside out."
Smeech sneered, his sharp teeth bared in frustration. "You don't know what you're talking about, boy! You're just a kid trying to fill your father's shoes. Silco kept this city alive, and you'll destroy it."
Naruto's expression remained unreadable for a moment, a calm, icy demeanour that sent chills down the spines of everyone in the room. And then, in a blur of motion, he vanished and reappeared in front of Smeech. The Yordle barely had time to react before Naruto's hand closed around his throat.
With an almost effortless motion, Naruto slammed Smeech onto the table, the impact sending papers and small objects flying. The table groaned under the force, and Smeech's mechanical limbs flailed as he struggled against Naruto's iron grip.
The room froze, all eyes on Naruto as he leaned in, his voice low and steady, each word carrying the weight of authority. "Never disrespect Silco again. Do you hear me?" His tone was calm, almost too calm, but the cold fury behind it was undeniable. "You should be honoured that you even got to work with a man like him."
Naruto's hand began to glow faintly, the crimson light of his rune flickering to life and sending small sparks dancing across Smeech's mechanical limbs. The air around them crackled with energy, and the room seemed to shrink under the oppressive weight of his power.
Naruto's voice hardened, his eyes narrowing. "This is your only warning, Smeech. Get in line, or I'll get rid of you for good. Understand?"
Smeech's wide eyes darted around the room, searching for support, but none of the other Chembarons dared to intervene. Margot and Chross sat stiffly, their gazes a mixture of awe and caution. The Yordle managed a shaky nod, his voice barely above a whisper. "S-sorry… I'll follow you. I swear."
Naruto held him there for a moment longer, as if weighing the truth of his words. Then, with a sharp exhale, he released his grip and stepped back. Smeech slumped into his chair, coughing and clutching his throat as the crimson glow around Naruto's hand faded.
Naruto turned to the rest of the room, his voice calm once again but carrying an undeniable edge of authority. "I'll be in touch. Thanks for listening."
The Chem-Barons exchanged uneasy glances before nodding and quickly making their exits, each clearly eager to be away from Naruto's imposing presence.
Once the room was clear, leaving Naruto, Jinx, Isha, and Sevika alone in the room. For a moment, there was only silence.
Sevika leaned back in her chair, exhaling sharply. "Well, that was something," she muttered, her voice tinged with grudging respect.
Jinx sauntered over to Naruto, her grin mischievous. "I think you scared the little rat," she said, giggling. "That was fun to watch."
Naruto glanced at her, his calm demeanour unwavering. "It wasn't for fun," he said. "Zaun needs order, or we won't survive what's coming."
As he walked up to Isha, who was still seated on the floor, her small hands fumbling with one of Jinx's grenades. He crouched down beside her, reaching out to ruffle her hair gently. Isha looked up at him, her wide, golden brown eyes meeting his.
"I'm sorry you had to see that," Naruto said softly, his voice tinged with regret.
Isha tilted her head, a faint shrug of her shoulders as if to say it didn't bother her. But Naruto wasn't convinced. He glanced over at Jinx, who had been leaning casually against the table, her pink eyes darting between them.
"She's from Zaun, like us," Jinx said, her tone light but steady. "She's seen worse."
Naruto sighed, shaking his head as he leaned back slightly. "Yeah, maybe. But I don't want her to only see the bad in life. I want her to know there's good out there too."
Jinx paused, her usually animated expression softening. She looked at Isha, who was now inspecting the grenade again, her fingers tracing the intricate patterns Jinx had etched onto its surface. After a moment, Jinx gave a small nod.
"Yeah," she said quietly. "That's true. She deserves better."
Naruto smiled faintly, his fingers brushing against Isha's shoulder. "We'll make sure she sees it."
Sevika, however, crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp as it flicked between Naruto and Jinx. "You better be sure about this, Naruto," she said, her tone low and firm. "You've got them on edge, but they're not going to stay loyal just because you scared them once."
Naruto stood up, turning to face her. His gaze was steady, his expression calm yet determined. "I know," he replied. "But this was just the first step. We need to stabilize Zaun, and I'll do whatever it takes to make that happen."
Sevika studied him for a long moment before giving a slight nod. "Alright. Let's see if you can keep them in line."
Naruto glanced back at Jinx and Isha, his gaze softening as he took in the sight of the two of them. For a brief moment, there was a flicker of something rare in his blue eyes hope. "We've got work to do."
As he turned back to Sevika, he added with a faint smirk, "Oh, and by the way Jinx will make you a new arm."
Jinx immediately shot him a look, one eyebrow raised as a playful grin tugged at her lips. "Oh, will I?" she teased.
Naruto shrugged, his grin widening. "Yeah, you will. Make it a good one."
Jinx rolled her eyes but then winked at Sevika. "Fine. But only because I'm the best." She turned to Isha, her grin softening. "Hey, you wanna help?"
Isha's eyes lit up, and she nodded enthusiastically, clutching the grenade she'd been holding as if it were a prized possession.
"Alright, then," Jinx said, leading Isha toward the workshop. She glanced back at Naruto, her pink eyes glinting with amusement. "Try not to blow anything up while we're gone."
Naruto chuckled, watching as they disappeared behind the door. He sighed softly, turning back to Sevika with a small nod. "Guess it's time to get to work."
Flashback to Jinx's Attack
The devastation wrought by Jinx's rocket was immediate and catastrophic. The once grand Council Meeting Room was reduced to rubble and twisted metal. Smoke billowed into the air, and the acrid scent of burning materials mixed with the unmistakable metallic tang of blood. The city of Piltover was in chaos.
Jayce stumbled to his feet, his ears ringing from the blast. His vision was blurred, but he could make out the flickering of flames and the groans of the injured. Beside him, Mel lay motionless. He scrambled to her side, his heart pounding, but when he placed a trembling hand on her shoulder, she stirred.
"Jayce," she murmured, her voice hoarse. "What… what happened?"
"The explosion," he said, his throat tight. "Zaun..… the Council…"
Together, they surveyed the ruins of the chamber. Council members were scattered across the room, some buried beneath debris, others lying unnaturally still. Jayce felt a lump rise in his throat as he spotted the lifeless forms of Hoskel and Bolbok, their bodies mangled beyond recognition. Nearby, Cassandra, Caitlyn's mother, was slumped against a broken pillar, her eyes closed forever.
"Cassandra…" Jayce whispered, his knees buckling. He had promised Caitlyn he would protect her family. He had failed.
Ambessa Medarda, appeared through the smoke, her commanding presence cutting through the chaos. Her soldiers followed, pulling survivors from the wreckage, and organizing the effort to search for more.
"We need to move quickly," Ambessa barked, her voice sharp and unwavering. "This isn't over."
Jayce nodded, but his focus shifted as he caught sight of a familiar figure slumped against a shattered table. His heart dropped when he realized it was Viktor.
"No, no, no…" Jayce muttered, rushing to his friend's side.
Viktor was unconscious, his face pale and streaked with blood. A deep gash ran down his side, and his breathing was shallow and laboured.
Thinking quickly, Jayce carried Viktor's limp body through the wreckage, his heart pounding with urgency. The Academy loomed in the distance, a beacon of hope in the chaos. Viktor's injuries were grave his breathing was shallow, his side soaked in blood, and his weight in Jayce's arms was unnervingly light.
The Hexcore glowed faintly as Jayce entered their lab, its ominous energy filling the space. Jayce placed Viktor gently onto a worktable, his hands trembling as he assessed his friend's condition.
Viktor remained unconscious, his face pale and gaunt. Blood seeped from the deep gash on his side, staining the fabric of his shirt. Jayce's eyes darted to the Hexcore in the corner of the lab. The device pulsed softly, its power almost calling to him.
Jayce clenched his fists. He had promised to destroy it. The Hexcore had already taken so much it had corrupted their work, their ideals, and even claimed Sky's life. But now, staring at Viktor, broken and clinging to life, Jayce knew he didn't have another choice.
"I can't lose you," Jayce whispered, his voice breaking. "Not after everything."
He hesitated for only a moment longer before moving to the Hexcore. His fingers hovered over its surface, feeling the raw energy radiating from within. With a deep breath, the core activated, its energy bursting to life in the lab. The room filled with a bright blue light as tendrils of energy snaked outward, reaching toward Viktor's body…..
The day following the devastating explosion, Piltover was draped in a somber silence. The streets, once bustling with life and trade, were subdued as citizens gathered in quiet mourning for those lost in the blast. Black banners hung from the rooftops, and the air carried a sense of heavy unease.
At the funeral for Cassandra Kiramman, Caitlyn stood with her head bowed, her face a mask of steely composure. She watched as her mother's casket, adorned with delicate white lilies, was lowered into the ground. The soft murmur of prayers and the muffled sobs of mourners filled the air, but Caitlyn remained silent. Her hands clenched at her sides, the weight of her loss threatening to crack her resolve.
When the funeral concluded, Caitlyn lingered for a moment by the grave. She traced her fingers lightly over the name etched into the marble headstone, her lips trembling as she whispered a quiet goodbye. The moment passed, and she straightened herself, her emotions buried beneath the surface. There was no time to grieve not yet.
Caitlyn joined the remaining Council members, their faces grim as they surveyed the damage. The air was heavy with the weight of decisions yet to be made.
Salo, heavily bandaged and in a wheelchair was assisted into the room by Ambessa, who stood tall and commanding beside him. The talk quickly turned to the state of Piltover and the steps needed to address the attack.
"This is a declaration of war," Salo said, his voice strained but filled with determination. "Zaun has gone too far. Their attack on our Council cannot go unanswered."
Ambessa nodded in agreement, her sharp eyes scanning the room. "They must see the strength of Piltover. If we hesitate, they will view us as weak and strike again."
Mel leaned forward, her voice calm but resolute. "I agree that action must be taken, but escalating to war will devastate both sides. We must consider the consequences of reckless retaliation."
Caitlyn, standing at the edge of the room, added, "This attack wasn't carried out by Zaun as a whole. Silco is gone, and the city is in chaos. Jinx and Naruto are the ones responsible. Targeting them directly could destabilize Zaun without plunging us into war."
Salo scoffed, his frustration evident. "You propose we rely on bounties? Piltover's safety cannot hinge on mercenaries and luck. We need decisive action, and we have the means Hextech weaponry."
The room fell silent as the weight of Salo's words settled over the Council. Caitlyn clenched her fists, her mind racing. Using Hextech as a weapon was a dangerous path, one that could spiral into destruction on both sides.
"Hextech weaponry should only be our last resort," Mel interjected, her voice firm. "If we pin this attack on capturing Jinx and Naruto, we can exploit the power vacuum in Zaun without resorting to widespread violence. A bounty large enough will make them unsafe, even in Zaun."
Ambessa crossed her arms, her imposing figure casting a shadow over the room. "And what happens when the boy Naruto returns? You've all seen what he's capable of. I've faced him myself, and I can tell you this: he's not someone who will wait for us to act. He will strike when we least expect it."
Mel's gaze flickered to Ambessa, her jaw tightening. "If we act with precision and caution, we can prevent further bloodshed."
Ambessa's lips curled into a faint, almost mocking smile. "Caution won't stop him. When that blue-eyed boy comes for us, you'll see for yourself."
Shoola, silent until now, finally nodded. "I side with Mel. We prepare for retaliation but hold Hextech in reserve. Piltover must act with strength and strategy, not blind aggression."
Salo glared at Mel, his frustration barely contained. "You're gambling with our survival."
Ambessa placed a hand on Salo's shoulder, her voice calm but laced with steel. "Let them try it their way. But when the time comes, we'll be ready."
The Council session adjourned, the tension in the room remaining thick. Caitlyn lingered for a moment, staring at the damaged chamber before walking away, her heart heavy with the knowledge that the coming days would bring no peace.
The Kiramman estate was unusually quiet, the once lively halls now filled with a sombre stillness. Tobias Kiramman sat by the large portrait of his late wife, Cassandra, his hands gripping the ornate Kiramman family key. Across from him, Caitlyn stood with her head bowed, her face a mixture of grief and guilt.
"You shouldn't blame yourself," Tobias said softly, breaking the silence.
Caitlyn looked up, her eyes red-rimmed but defiant. "How can I not? I had her, Father. Jinx… she was right there, but I wasn't fast enough. And then…" Her voice cracked, and she looked away, unable to finish the sentence.
Tobias let out a heavy sigh, his expression a mix of sorrow and determination. "Caitlyn, what happened wasn't your fault. This city is in chaos. No one could have foreseen what they would do."
"But I should've foreseen it!" Caitlyn snapped, her hands balling into fists. "I had the chance to stop her, and I failed. If I hadn't—"
Tobias stood and placed a firm hand on her shoulder. "Enough," he said, his tone gentle but commanding. "Your mother wouldn't want you to carry this weight alone."
From his pocket, he pulled the Kiramman family key, its polished surface catching the dim light of the room. "This is for you," he said, holding it out to her.
Caitlyn stared at the key, her throat tightening. "I don't deserve this," she whispered. "Not after everything I've done. I let her down. I let you down."
Tobias shook his head, his eyes filled with a rare tenderness. "The Kiramman name doesn't end with your mother, Caitlyn. It carries on with you. You're stronger than you think, and this city needs that strength now more than ever."
Hesitantly, Caitlyn reached out and took the key, her fingers trembling as they closed around it. "I'll do my best," she murmured, her voice barely audible.
From the shadows outside the estate, Vi watched the exchange with a pang of guilt in her chest. She felt like an intruder, a ghost lingering where she didn't belong. But her presence didn't go unnoticed for long.
Tobias spotted her through the window and stormed out, his face flushed with anger. "You've got some nerve showing up here," he growled. "After everything your kind has done to this family, to this city—"
"Father, stop!" Caitlyn called, stepping between Tobias and Vi. "Please."
Tobias glared at Vi for a long moment before reluctantly retreating into the house, leaving Caitlyn and Vi alone on the estate's front steps.
Caitlyn turned to Vi, her expression conflicted. "What are you doing here?"
Vi rubbed the back of her neck, avoiding Caitlyn's gaze. "I wanted to say… I'm sorry. For everything. For what happened to your mom. For not stopping Jinx when I had the chance."
Caitlyn's jaw tightened. "We've all made mistakes," she said coldly. "But that doesn't mean you can just waltz back in and fix everything."
Vi took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. "Let me handle Jinx," she said, her voice steady. "I'll go after her alone. I'll make this right."
But Caitlyn shook her head. "No more rogue missions, Vi. This isn't just about Jinx anymore." Her voice hardened as she continued, "It's about Naruto too."
Vi frowned, her confusion evident. "Naruto? What does he have to do with this?"
Caitlyn's eyes burned with a mix of anger and resolve. "He could've stopped Jinx. He had the power to end this madness, but he didn't. He's just as responsible as she is, and I won't stop until he's brought to justice."
Vi stepped back, her face a mix of shock and disbelief. "You're seriously blaming him? Naruto's—"
"A monster," Caitlyn interrupted, her voice icy. "And I will hunt him down if it's the last thing I do."
Caitlyn pulled something from her coat and held it out to Vi , an Enforcer's badge. "You can help me," she said, her tone softening. "Join the Enforcers. We can stop this together."
Vi stared at the badge as if it were a viper. Her jaw clenched, and she shoved Caitlyn's hand away. "You think I'd betray my parents memory like that? They died because of Enforcers, Caitlyn. I'll never join them."
Caitlyn's face fell, her arm dropping to her side as she looked at Vi with a mixture of frustration and disappointment. "Then I guess we're on opposite sides now."
Vi turned and walked away, her heart heavy as Caitlyn watched her go. The divide between them, once a crack, now felt like an unbridgeable chasm.
The Academy halls echoed with a tense silence as Mel entered the lab where Jayce had been stationed for hours. The light from the glowing Hexcore cast eerie patterns on the walls, its luminous energy pulsating as though alive. Viktor lay on a nearby table, his body encased in a protective shell of Hexcore tendrils that had extended across his limbs and torso, glinting like veins of molten metal.
Jayce stood nearby, his arms crossed tightly as he stared at Viktor, his face a mask of frustration and helplessness.
"Any progress?" Mel asked gently, breaking the silence.
Jayce shook his head, running a hand through his dishevelled hair. "The Hexcore… it's doing something, Mel. It's keeping him alive, but I can't figure out why. Or how. It's like it has a mind of its own."
Mel moved closer, her sharp gaze studying both Jayce and the unsettling Hexcore. "It's protecting him," she said after a moment. "And it's not your fault."
Jayce turned to her, his eyes weary. "How can you say that? I promised Viktor I wouldn't let Hextech turn into something dangerous. But now… look at him. Look at this." He gestured toward Viktor, his voice cracking. "I broke my promise to him the moment we let this thing grow out of control."
Mel placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch firm yet comforting. "You did everything you could. Viktor will come back to us, Jayce. You just need to give him time. And in the meantime, we have other battles to fight."
Jayce exhaled slowly, nodding. "Ambessa?" he guessed, knowing Mel's mother was always at the centre of power struggles.
Mel nodded, her expression unreadable. "She's using Salo's anger and grief to push her agenda. She's been exploiting his thirst for retribution, trying to convince the Council that Hextech weapons are the only answer to Zaun's threat."
Jayce's jaw tightened. "She wants to militarize Hextech? After everything we've seen? No. I'm not breaking another promise to Viktor."
Mel's lips curved into a faint, reassuring smile. "And you won't. I'll make sure Ambessa doesn't get her way."
Jayce sighed, his shoulders slumping. "It's not just her, Mel. It's everything. The Council. Zaun. Naruto, Jinx… Every choice we make feels like the wrong one."
Mel's gaze softened. "Then let's make the right one together. One step at a time."
Later that evening, Jayce paid a visit to Caitlyn at her home. The Kiramman estate, once lively and elegant, now carried an air of mourning. Caitlyn sat in the study, the family key resting on a table beside her as she stared blankly at a flickering candle.
Jayce approached hesitantly. "Caitlyn," he said softly. "How are you holding up?"
Caitlyn glanced up, her face pale and drawn. "I'm fine," she replied, though the strain in her voice betrayed her.
Jayce sat across from her, his elbows resting on his knees. "You don't have to pretend, Cait. I know this has been… impossible."
Caitlyn exhaled shakily. "I just keep thinking… if I'd been faster, stronger… Maybe I could've stopped it. Maybe she wouldn't have…" Her voice faltered, and she looked away.
Jayce hesitated, then leaned forward. "None of this is your fault. Jinx and Naruto… they made their choices. You couldn't have stopped them."
Caitlyn's expression hardened. "And what about the choices we've made? Or the ones we're going to make?" She stood abruptly, pacing the room. "Are Hextech weapons really the answer? Is that what my mother's sacrifice was for?"
Jayce looked down, the weight of the question pressing heavily on him. "I don't know," he admitted. "But if we don't do something, Zaun will keep spiraling out of control. And Piltover… we can't survive another attack like that."
Caitlyn turned to him, her eyes burning with a mix of determination and despair. "Then we have to find another way. We can't become monsters to fight monsters, Jayce."
He nodded slowly, her words striking a chord within him. "You're right," he said. "But we have to act soon. Whatever we decide, it could change everything."
Caitlyn sat back down, her gaze distant. "Then let's make it count."
Back to the Present
Naruto stood at the cracked, neon lit window of the Last Drop, his glowing blue eyes scanning the chaotic streets below. Zaun was in its usual disarray shouts echoing from distant alleys, the faint hum of machinery, and the occasional flicker of chemlights illuminating the gloom. His hands rested on the windowsill, tense with a cold determination.
Sevika approached him cautiously, her prosthetic arm clinking softly with every step. She didn't bother hiding the irritation in her tone. "You're not gonna like this," she began, crossing her arms. "Renni made her move."
Naruto turned his head slightly, his sharp gaze locking onto her. "What kind of move?"
Sevika sighed, lighting a cigarette before she continued "She led the charge on Piltover's checkpoints. Took out some enforcers and blew up half a building, but they cut her down before she could make it back."
Naruto let the words sink in, his expression unreadable. After a long pause, he asked, "How did she even get through the blockades? The bridges have been shut tight since the Council attack."
"That's the part that doesn't make sense," Sevika replied, crossing her arms. "She had help. Someone gave her the tools to pull it off got her in, made sure she could hit Piltover where it hurt."
Naruto's jaw tightened as he stared at the cracked mirror behind the bar, his reflection distorted and fragmented. "Someone used her," he said, his tone ice-cold. "They wanted this. Her grief, her anger… they weaponized it."
Sevika studied him carefully. "Who? Piltover?"
Naruto shook his head slowly. "Maybe. But it feels too… calculated. Renni's attack wasn't just retaliation it was bait. They knew it'd give Piltover the excuse they needed to escalate. But who benefits?"
"Someone down here, maybe," Sevika suggested cautiously. "Not all the Chembarons were on board with Silco's way of doing things. You've seen how Margot and Smeech are already sniffing for control."
Naruto rubbed the back of his neck, his thoughts racing. "Renni was grieving, desperate for revenge. Whoever pushed her knew exactly how to manipulate her."
"And now she's gone, and Piltover's out for blood," Sevika muttered, finishing her drink. "You know what that means, right? They're going to bring the fight down here."
Naruto looked out the window at the chaos in the streets, his glowing eyes narrowing. "Zaun's tearing itself apart," he said quietly. "No leader. No direction. Just fuel for Piltover's fire."
Sevika turned to him, her expression serious. "So, what's the plan, boss?"
Naruto's fists clenched, faint arcs of crimson lightning flickering across his hands. "I need to find Jinx and Isha. If Piltover's coming for us, they'll go after them too."
Sevika nodded, setting her glass down. "Better move fast. This place is a powder keg."
Naruto adjusted his hood, pulling it lower over his face. "First, we stabilize Zaun. Then, we find out who pulled the strings, and we make them pay."
With that, Naruto headed for the door, his mind burning with questions and resolve. Whoever had orchestrated Renni's attack wouldn't get away with it not while he was still breathing.
The aftermath of Renni's devastating attack, Ambessa commanded her soldiers with an iron grip, her voice cutting through the chaos as they worked to secure the wreckage and recover survivors. Piltover was reeling, and the weight of the tragedy was palpable in the air. The once pristine city was now marred by destruction, smoke curling into the sky as people mourned their losses and tried to make sense of the carnage.
In a secluded part of the encampment, a large, stark white tent stood as Caitlyn's temporary quarters. Inside, Caitlyn sat at a table strewn with maps, notes, and documents. Her hands clenched into fists, trembling as she stared at the chaos on paper a mirrored reflection of the turmoil in her heart. Her grief was raw, her mother's absence like a jagged wound that refused to heal.
The flap of the tent rustled, and Vi stepped inside, her steps hesitant but determined. Caitlyn didn't look up, her jaw tight as she worked through her emotions.
"Caitlyn," Vi said softly, her voice carrying a tentative note. "How're you holding up?"
Caitlyn's head snapped up, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "How do you think I'm holding up?" she snapped, her tone sharp. "Zaun attacked us, Vi. After everything, they attacked us in the middle of our grief. My mother—" Her voice broke, and she inhaled sharply to steady herself. "—my mother is dead, and now they've made this into a war."
Vi flinched at Caitlyn's words but didn't back down. She moved closer, lowering herself into a seat across from Caitlyn. "I get it, Cait," she said, her voice quiet but firm. "I know what this looks like, but this war, it's not going to fix anything. It's only going to make things worse for everyone. You've got to convince the Council to back down."
Caitlyn let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. "Do you think I haven't tried? They won't listen to me. They're angry, and honestly… I don't blame them. I'm angry too. Zaun has taken everything from me." Her voice wavered, but her expression hardened. "I don't know how to approach this, Vi. How can I convince them of anything when I can't even figure out what to do myself? I'm not my mother."
Vi reached across the table, her rough hand resting atop Caitlyn's trembling one. "You're right. You're not your mother," she said. "And that's okay. You don't have to be her. You've got to take this on as you, Cait. No one else. And I'll be right here with you."
Caitlyn blinked, her lip trembling as she searched Vi's face. The raw sincerity in her voice cut through the haze of doubt clouding Caitlyn's mind. Slowly, she nodded, drawing a deep breath to calm herself.
"You'll stay with me?" she asked softly.
"Always," Vi said, her lips twitching into a faint smile. "I've picked my side."
Reinvigorated by Vi's words, Caitlyn rose from her chair, her shoulders squared with renewed purpose. She retrieved the Kiramman key, its polished surface glinting faintly in the light. "If I'm going to take this on as myself, I will need a plan." she said, her voice steady now. "And I think I know where to start."
Meanwhile, in the forges of the Academy, Jayce stood surrounded by the heat of the furnaces, his face shadowed by the flames dancing around him. His hands worked with meticulous precision, the clang of hammer against metal echoing through the chamber. Before him lay the prototype of a Hextech weapon sleek, deadly, and undeniably powerful.
Mel warnings echoed in his mind, but Jayce shook them off. He had tried diplomacy. He had tried to appeal to reason. But Renni's attack had proven to him that peace was no longer an option. He couldn't ignore the mounting losses, the families torn apart, the children left without parents.
"Zaun has to pay for this," he muttered under his breath, his grip tightening on the hammer. "Naruto, Jinx… all of them. They've crossed the line."
He struck the weapon again, the force of his blow resonating with the intensity of his emotions. The sparks flew, and as they settled, he stared at the gleaming weapon before him. Its energy pulsed faintly, a testament to the untapped power of Hextech a power he once promised Viktor he would never exploit.
But that promise felt distant now, buried under the weight of Piltover's grief and his own guilt. He looked to the Hexcore, sitting dormant in its containment unit. The memory of Viktor's still body, encased in the Hexcore's protective embrace, was fresh in his mind.
"I tried, Viktor," Jayce whispered, his voice breaking. "But I can't stand by anymore. If we're going to survive this… if we're going to win… we need this."
As he began assembling another weapon, Jayce couldn't help but feel the mounting pressure of the path he'd chosen. The line between savior and destroyer blurred, and he could only hope that when the dust settled, he'd made the right choice.
The atmosphere in the underground meeting chamber was tense, the flickering light of the hex lamps casting long shadows across the faces of the remaining Councilors. The room, hastily set up beneath Piltover's government building for security, buzzed with muted conversations and speculation about the most recent attack on their city.
Councilor Shoola adjusted her chair, with frustration. "How could they have made it this far?" she demanded. "Piltover has the most advanced security systems in the world, and yet they managed to breach it like it was nothing."
"They didn't do it alone," Mel said, her voice cool but pointed. She leaned back in her chair, her sharp gaze moving over the room. "Someone from within Piltover helped them. Informants, perhaps. People willing to sell us out for the right price."
Salo pounded his fist on the table, his face red with anger. "It doesn't matter how they got in! What matters is how we respond. This is a declaration of war, and we need to meet it with overwhelming force. We should've begun production of Hextech weaponry weeks ago!"
Mel's jaw tightened, her calm façade slipping slightly. "You're suggesting escalation, Councilor. Do you realize what that means? Zaun may be fractured, but they won't hesitate to rally against us if we strike first. And let's not forget, we're talking about Hextech weaponry. If it falls into the wrong hands, it could destroy us."
Before the debate could spiral further, the doors to the chamber opened, and the sound of boots echoed against the stone walls. All eyes turned to see Caitlyn enter, her polished Enforcer uniform gleaming under the lights. Her face was pale but determined, a reflection of the turmoil she'd endured and the resolve she'd found in its wake.
Behind her marched four figures, each armed with cutting edge Hextech weaponry. Among them was Vi, her presence drawing a murmur from the Councilors. Caitlyn's Kiramman crest was displayed prominently on her uniform, and her voice carried authority as she addressed the room.
"Councilors," she began, her tone calm yet commanding. "I understand the urgency of your discussions, but Piltover isn't ready for an invasion. Launching a full scale assault on Zaun without proper preparation would be reckless."
Salo scoffed, leaning forward in his chair. "And what do you suggest, Kiramman? That we sit and wait for them to tear down more of our city?"
Caitlyn held his gaze firmly. "No. I suggest a surgical strike. A task force, carefully chosen and equipped, to neutralize the threats in Zaun before they escalate further."
Mel raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "A task force? Led by you, I presume?"
"Yes," Caitlyn replied. "I'll lead the team myself. Our objectives will be clear, capture Naruto Uzumaki and Jinx, dismantle the shimmer trade, and neutralize the remaining Silco loyalists who continue to destabilize the region."
Her words caused a ripple of conversation among the Councilors, but Caitlyn raised a hand, silencing them. "To prove we're capable, I've assembled a team and outfitted them with the best weapons Piltover has to offer."
She gestured, and her team stepped forward. Maddie, Steb, and Loris stood at attention, their customized Hextech rifles and gear gleaming with precision engineering. But it was Vi, clad in an Enforcer uniform and standing at Caitlyn's side, that drew the most gasps.
Mel's eyes narrowed as she studied Vi. "This is bold. You've enlisted someone from Zaun into Piltover's forces?"
"Vi is uniquely qualified for this mission," Caitlyn said firmly, glancing at Vi. "She knows Zaun better than anyone in this room. Her skills and insight will give us an advantage."
Salo looked unconvinced. "And what makes you think this small task force will succeed where others have failed?"
Caitlyn stepped forward, her voice steady. "Because we'll strike at the heart of the chaos before it can spread further. Naruto Uzumaki and Jinx are the key to ending this conflict. Without them, Zaun has no unifying force, no figurehead to rally behind. If we neutralize them, the rest will fall apart."
The Council fell silent, the weight of Caitlyn's plan sinking in. Finally, Mel spoke, her voice calm but laden with caution. "If you proceed with this, there's no turning back. This isn't just about enforcing order. You're setting a precedent."
Caitlyn nodded. "I understand. And I accept the responsibility."
The room remained tense, but the sight of the Hextech-armed task force had clearly left an impression. Mel exchanged a glance with Shoola, who gave a reluctant nod.
"Very well," Mel said. "You have our approval, but remember, this isn't just about capturing your targets. It's about protecting Piltover."
Caitlyn saluted sharply. "I won't let you down."
As Caitlyn turned to leave, Vi cast one last glance around the room before following her. The pair exited the chamber, their footsteps echoing as the doors closed behind them. Inside, the Councilors resumed their hushed discussions, their thoughts lingering on the boldness of Caitlyn's plan and the uncertain road ahead.
Naruto stood at the entrance of the broken arcade, the flickering neon lights casting erratic shadows on the walls. He pushed the door open, his presence instantly catching the attention of Jinx, who was seated at a cluttered workbench. Sparks flew as she adjusted Sevika's new arm, the faint hum of machinery filling the air. Beside her, Isha, now equipped with a helmet decorated with bright, childlike designs, handed tools up eagerly, her tiny frame bouncing with excitement.
Jinx glanced over her shoulder, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Well, if it isn't my favourite speedster," she teased. "Come to check on your favourite girls?"
Naruto walked toward her with an exasperated sigh, the glow of his blue eyes flickering faintly. "You can't just disappear like that, Jinx," he said, his tone firm but not harsh. "You're a wanted criminal now, and Piltover isn't going to play nice if they find you."
Jinx laughed, spinning her chair to face him as if his concerns were the most amusing thing in the world. "Relax, lover boy," she drawled, kicking her legs up on the workbench. "We're safe here. No one's dumb enough to come after us in this dump."
Naruto crossed his arms, his expression unimpressed. "That's not the point, Jinx. You need to let me know where you are. I can't keep running across the city every time you vanish."
She winked at him, twirling a wrench in her hand. "Oh, but you can run across the city in minutes. So what's the problem? You'll always find me, right?" Her voice was teasing, but there was an undercurrent of something softer beneath her words.
Naruto pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering something under his breath before looking down. His eyes landed on Isha, who was adjusting her new helmet with both hands, its oversized design making her look comically small. She beamed up at him, her golden-brown eyes filled with excitement.
"And what's this?" Naruto said, crouching to her level and giving the helmet a gentle tap. "You been helping Jinx out?"
Isha nodded vigorously, her enthusiasm lighting up the room. She pointed to a stack of tools on the workbench, then to the nearly finished prosthetic arm. Jinx ruffled the girl's hair with an almost sisterly affection, her grin widening.
"She's been my little assistant," Jinx said, her voice unusually soft as she glanced at Isha. "Kid's got some talent, you know."
Naruto raised an eyebrow, his features softening as he bumped his forehead lightly against Isha's helmet. "Well, that's good," he said with a faint smile. "But next time, make sure you both stick close. Things are getting worse out there."
Jinx rolled her eyes, waving him off dismissively. "You worry too much, Naruto. We're not going anywhere, and nobody's dumb enough to try anything with me around."
Naruto stood, his eyes narrowing slightly as he stared at her. "You've got too much confidence," he said. "And one day, it's going to bite you."
Jinx met his gaze, the teasing glint in her eyes replaced by something more serious. "Maybe," she said, her voice quieter now. "But with you here, I'm not worried."
The tension hung in the air for a moment before Naruto shook his head with a soft chuckle. "You're impossible," he muttered.
Jinx smirked, spinning back around to her workbench. "And you love it."
As Naruto leaned against the wall, watching the two of them work, a sense of calm settled over him a rare moment of peace amidst the chaos that surrounded them.
The sudden hissing of gas canisters echoed through the arcade, and a dense, suffocating smog quickly filled the room. The green enveloped everything in a choking haze. Jinx's sharp instincts kicked in as she immediately retreated into the shadows, holding her breath, and trying to suppress her panicked gasps.
Naruto spun around, his senses on high alert as the thick smoke swirled. "Jinx!" he called out, but his voice was muffled by the gas. Spotting Isha, he rushed to her side, shrugging off his hoodie and pressing it against her mouth and nose to shield her from the smog.
"Hold on tight," he whispered, his voice strained. Isha nodded, her small arms wrapping tightly around his neck as she climbed onto his back. Naruto's glowing blue eyes scanned the room for Jinx, catching a brief glimpse of her above, her silhouette framed by the dim light filtering through the smoke.
Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed through the smog a gunshot. The bullet zipped past Naruto, narrowly missing him. Its trail shimmered with an unmistakable energy. Hextech.
Naruto dodged instinctively, his movements a blur. His voice rang out, firm yet tinged with urgency. "Stop! There's a child here!" he shouted into the smoke.
A familiar voice answered, cold and unwavering. "Stop lying! You won't get away this time!" Caitlyn's silhouette emerged through the haze, her rifle aimed, her eyes locked onto the faint glow of Naruto's blue aura. "You'll answer for everything you've done."
Naruto clenched his jaw. "Caitlyn, listen to me! I didn't order the attack! Renni acted on her own!"
But Caitlyn's face twisted with fury as she fired again, her Hextech bullet tearing through the air. "You should've thought about that before you murdered my mother!"
The round just grazed Naruto's shoulder as he twisted to protect Isha, the heat of it searing his skin. His voice broke with frustration as he called back, "I don't want to fight! My mind is clear now I just want peace!"
Caitlyn's laugh was hollow, filled with disdain. "Peace? After what you and Jinx have done? There's no peace left for you."
Behind her, the strike team moved into formation. Vi, armed with gleaming Hextech Gauntlets, stepped cautiously through the smoke, her eyes darting, searching for her sister. Maddie, equipped with a pistol and grenade launcher, scanned the room, while Loris, carrying a massive riot shield, pushed forward alongside Steb, whose batons crackled faintly with electrical charge.
Naruto adjusted Isha on his back, his voice low as he muttered, "Hold on tight, kid. This is going to get messy."
"I see him!" Maddie shouted, raising her pistol.
Naruto moved, but Loris intercepted him with the riot shield, the force of the impact sending him stumbling back. Vi rushed forward, her gauntlets primed, but Jinx darted out of the shadows to intercept her, her eyes burning with fury.
"Well, look at this," Jinx hissed, her voice dripping with venom. "My sister, an enforcer now? Bet Mom and Dad would've been so proud."
Vi froze momentarily, pain flickering in her eyes before she steeled herself. "I did what I had to do," she replied, her voice low but firm.
"Yeah?" Jinx sneered, her pistol at the ready. "And now you're here to take me down. Let's see how that goes."
Naruto staggered to his feet, dodging another Hextech bullet from Caitlyn that barely missed his side. "Jinx, we really need to run," he said, his tone clipped.
"And go where?" Jinx retorted, her grin faltering.
Caitlyn's rifle cracked again, the bullet flying toward Jinx. Without thinking, Naruto lunged, shoving her down just in time. The shot grazed his shoulder, drawing a sharp hiss of pain.
"Vi, he really does have a kid!" Maddie called out, catching sight of Isha clinging to Naruto's back.
Vi's eyes widened as she saw the small figure on Naruto's back, her voice faltering. "Caitlyn, wait! He's telling the truth!"
But Caitlyn was relentless, her voice icy. "I don't care. They won't don't get away."
Jinx's eyes darted around the room, searching for a way out. Her gaze landed on an old power switch, an idea sparking in her mind. She dashed toward it, ignoring the shouts from the strike team, and slammed it down.
The arcade roared to life. Neon lights flickered and blared, and the speakers erupted with loud, chaotic target practice music. Brightly coloured panels lit up, the sudden onslaught of noise and light disorienting the enforcers.
"Nice one!" Naruto called out, grabbing Jinx's hand as he activated his speed, flashing them both out of the room.
Coughing violently, Naruto stumbled as they landed just outside the arcade. The gas had thinned, but his chest heaved as he tried to catch his breath.
Inside the arcade, Caitlyn's frustration boiled over as she glared at the chaos around her. "Find them!" she barked.
Maddie and Steb fanned out, but the room were empty. The target practice music blared mockingly as Caitlyn, in a fit of rage, aimed her rifle and fired at one of the glowing panels. The shattered glass tinkled to the ground as she screamed, "Damn it!"
The task force regrouped, but the damage was done. Naruto, Jinx, and Isha were gone.
The Firelights hideout was a hive of activity, teeming with displaced citizens seeking refuge from the escalating chaos in Zaun. The once serene space under the sprawling tree had become crowded and tense, the air thick with uncertainty. Scar paced the perimeter, his brows furrowed as he watched the steady influx of refugees.
"We can't keep taking them in," Scar said, his voice low but urgent as he approached Ekko. "We're running out of supplies, and space is becoming an issue. If this keeps up…"
Ekko, seated on the roots of the massive tree, didn't look up. His gaze was fixed on the canopy above, where the leaves glimmered faintly. "We'll make it work," he said firmly, though the strain in his voice betrayed his own doubts. "These people need us, Scar. We can't turn them away."
Scar exhaled sharply, frustration mingling with resignation. He knew Ekko's resolve was unshakable. "Alright," he said, though worry still clouded hir expression. "But if we're not careful, we'll collapse under the weight of it all."
As he walked off to manage the refugees, Ekko stood and placed a hand against the tree's trunk. The bark was warm to the touch, pulsing faintly with an energy he had come to rely on. But something felt off subtle at first, like a whisper on the edge of his awareness. Then a leaf floated down in front of him, its surface etched with intricate, alien patterns.
Ekko caught the leaf, turning it over in his hands. The patterns seemed to shimmer, almost alive, like veins of corruption spreading through the organic material. His stomach churned.
"Heimerdinger!" he called out, urgency colouring his tone.
The small Yordle emerged from his makeshift workshop nearby, his bushy brows knitting together as he noticed Ekko's alarm. "What is it, Ekko?" Heimerdinger asked, adjusting his goggles.
Ekko handed him the leaf. "Look at this. Something's wrong with the tree."
Heimerdinger inspected the leaf closely, his eyes narrowing. He turned and grabbed another leaf that had fallen, finding the same strange patterns. His ears twitched. "This… this is troubling," he murmured. "I've seen something like this before, long ago."
"What does it mean?" Ekko asked, anxiety tightening his voice.
Heimerdinger's expression darkened. "The tree is connected to Zaun in ways even I do not fully understand. Its vitality reflects the state of the land and the people. If the tree is dying, it means something terrible is poisoning the very heart of the undercity."
Ekko's jaw tightened. "Then we need answers. Fast."
Heimerdinger nodded. "I believe I know who might help. But we'll need to take a risk."
Under the cover of night, Ekko and Heimerdinger made their way to Piltover, slipping through the cracks in the city's defences. They arrived at the Academy's lab, its imposing structure still partially damaged from the recent attacks. Inside, the atmosphere was heavy with tension and activity, as scientists scrambled to piece together what was left of Piltover's technological progress.
Jayce sat at a desk cluttered with blueprints and shattered pieces of hextech. He looked up sharply as the duo entered, his eyes narrowing. "What are you doing here?" he demanded, his voice a mixture of surprise and suspicion.
"We need your help," Ekko said bluntly, stepping forward. He held out a handful of the corrupted leaves. "This is happening to our tree. Something's wrong, and we need to figure out what it is before it's too late."
Jayce took the leaves, his expression softening as he studied them. The patterns on the leaves seemed to hold him in a trance, their complexity both beautiful and foreboding. "These… I've never seen anything like this before," he admitted. "But I can try to analyse them."
While Jayce turned to his equipment, Heimerdinger's eyes wandered. Something in the lab caught his attention a faintly glowing residue on a nearby table. He approached it cautiously, his ears twitching with recognition.
It was the cocoon-like remains of the Hexcore.
His breath caught. "Jayce," Heimerdinger called, his voice unusually sharp. "Where is Viktor?"
Jayce stiffened, glancing at the cocoon. "He's… recovering," he said, his tone evasive. "The Hexcore saved his life. I didn't have a choice."
Heimerdinger's fur bristled as he turned to face Jayce. "You tampered with forces you don't understand. Do you have any idea what the Hexcore is capable of?"
Jayce's jaw tightened, his guilt evident. "I did what I had to do to save him. Viktor's life—"
"May come at a cost far greater than you realize," Heimerdinger interrupted. He picked up a shard of the cocoon, his eyes filled with a mix of awe and dread. "We must find Viktor. If the Hexcore is influencing him, it could have consequences for all of Piltover and beyond."
Ekko stepped forward, his gaze bouncing between the two. "First, we figure out what's wrong with the tree," he said, his voice cutting through the tension. "Then we deal with whatever's happening here. One crisis at a time."
Jayce nodded reluctantly, turning back to his instruments. The weight of their combined discoveries hung heavy in the room, the air thick with the unspoken fear that their interconnected problems were only the beginning of something far worse.
Naruto leaned against the brick wall of an alley, his head pulled low as he caught his breath. His sharp eyes scanned the darkness, searching for signs of pursuit. His voice was a low growl as he spoke.
"How did they find us?" he muttered, frustration lacing his tone.
Jinx crouched a few feet away, fidgeting with a small, handmade grenade. Her pink eyes darted around as she tried to piece it together. "I don't know," she replied, her voice uncharacteristically subdued. "But… I can't believe her. My own sister, working with them?"
Naruto glanced at her, his expression softening for a moment. "Someone's tipping them off," he said grimly. "And I've got an idea who."
Before either could say more, shadows moved at the alley's entrance. Heavy footsteps echoed, and a low, mechanical chuckle followed.
"Well, well," came the grating voice of Smeech, stepping into the flickering light. His gang of augmented thugs flanked him, their mismatched cybernetic limbs clanking as they closed in. "Looks like the great blue eyed demon isn't as untouchable as he thought."
Naruto straightened, his fists crackling faintly with suppressed energy. "Smeech," he said, his voice cold. "What's this? You trading secrets with Piltover now? Didn't know you had it in you."
Smeech smirked, his oversized mechanical limbs clicking ominously as he cracked his metal knuckles. "Caitlyn's team pays well, and let's just say, I've got a grudge to settle. You and Jinx? You've been a thorn in my side for too long."
Naruto's glare sharpened. "Did you forget about me, Smeech? I don't go down that easy."
"Oh, I remember," Smeech replied, his voice dripping with malice. "I remember the first time we met, you punk. And I've been dreaming of the day I'd take you down myself. Don't think I forgot how you humiliated me."
Naruto smirked, tilting his head. "Yeah? I should've finished you off back then. Silco stopped me. Big mistake."
At the mention of Silco, Smeech's grin widened. "Silco? Look at him now. He's dead. Gone. And you two? Trying to fill his shoes?" He sneered. "Spare me."
Jinx froze momentarily, her gaze flickering with something unreadable. Then, with an eerie calm, she spoke up. "You're right. Silco's dead." She grinned, almost feral. "Because I killed him."
The revelation hung in the air like a thunderclap. Smeech's gang faltered, glancing at their leader in confusion. Smeech's mechanical eye whirred as it focused on Jinx, his expression twisting with disbelief. "You? You killed Silco?"
Jinx leaned forward, her pistol twirling lazily in her hand. "Sure did. But don't start getting ideas, Smeech. You don't know a damn thing about what happened."
Naruto stepped forward, his voice cutting through the tension. "You're clueless, Smeech. Silco's death wasn't part of some scheme to take over. We're here to protect his vision for Zaun. To keep it alive." His gaze turned icy. "And you're not part of it."
Smeech let out a harsh laugh, gesturing at his gang. "Spare me the speeches. Protect Zaun? You're nothing but a kid playing pretend. A king without a crown."
Naruto tilted his head, glancing at Jinx. A sly smile spread across his face as he replied, "A king's nothing without his queen, right?"
Jinx's grin stretched wide, her pistol snapping into place as she levelled it at the nearest thug. "Guess that makes me queen."
The tension snapped like a string pulled too tight. Smeech shouted, "Get them!" as his gang surged forward.
Naruto and Jinx moved as one, a blur of synchronized chaos. Jinx fired a barrage of precise shots, her bullets striking one thug's cybernetics, shorting out his arm. She laughed as he crumpled, spinning around to kick another square in the jaw.
Naruto's eyes gleamed with a dangerous light as he zipped forward, dodging a swinging mechanical fist and slamming his electrified palm into its owner's chest. The thug spasmed and collapsed, sparks dancing across his body.
But the fight wasn't without its stumbles. As Jinx reloaded, one of Smeech's men lunged at her, knocking her off balance. Before the thug could capitalize, Isha stepped forward, her small frame dwarfed by the grenade she hurled into the fray.
The explosion was deafening, a shower of sparks and smoke erupting as the gang scattered. Jinx took advantage, recovering quickly and firing a single, clean shot into the back of the retreating thug's head. She turned to Isha, miming a gun with her fingers. "Boom!" she said, her grin widening, as Isha smiled.
Naruto, meanwhile, danced through the chaos like a storm incarnate. Crimson lightning crackled along his hands as he dispatched each thug with calculated precision. His movements were fluid and relentless, his new core fuelling him with untapped power.
Jinx and Isha stood at the edge of the chaos, their gazes fixed on Naruto as he moved with precision and deadly efficiency, each blow dismantling Smeech's henchmen. Isha's eyes were wide with awe as Jinx whispered, "He's cool, right?"
Jinx crouched beside her, grinning like a proud mentor, her voice brimming with pride. "But don't forget who the queen is." She winked at Isha, who giggled nervously.
As the final thug crumpled to the ground, Naruto turned slowly to face Smeech. The Chembaron stood frozen, his bravado dissipating under the weight of the situation. Naruto tilted his head, a dangerous smirk playing on his lips.
"Well, look who's left," Naruto said, his voice low and taunting. He took a deliberate step forward, and Smeech instinctively took a step back.
Smeech gritted his teeth, forcing himself to stand tall. "I'll kill you," he spat, his voice trembling slightly.
Naruto's smirk widened as he gestured for Smeech to come at him. "That's more like it. At least die with some dignity."
With a roar, Smeech charged at Naruto, his augmented limbs whirring as he swung a massive mechanical arm. Naruto sidestepped the attack with ease, delivering a brutal uppercut that sent Smeech staggering. Crimson lightning crackled around Naruto's hands as he pressed the advantage, each strike landing with unrelenting force.
Jinx leaned forward, her grin growing wider with each hit. "That's my Naruto," she murmured, her tone a mix of amusement and admiration.
Smeech fell to his knees, coughing and wheezing, his body battered and broken. Naruto loomed over him, his glowing eyes unyielding as he activated his rune. The jagged symbols on his wrist flared to life, the crimson energy coursing through him like a storm.
"Any last words?" Naruto asked coldly, his voice devoid of emotion.
Smeech glared up at him, blood trickling from his lips. "Fuck you," he spat, his defiance flickering like a dying flame.
Naruto's smirk returned, and he raised his electrified hand. "See ya," he said simply before slamming his palm down onto Smeech's chest.
The crimson electricity surged through Smeech's body, his screams echoing through the alley as his flesh burned and his mechanical limbs sparked violently. The light in his eyes faded as his charred body collapsed, lifeless, onto the ground.
Jinx and Isha exchanged a glance, Jinx's grin stretching even wider. She nudged Isha playfully. "Told you he's cool."
Isha nodded, her awe evident.
Jinx got up and walked over to Naruto, wrapping her arms around him from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder. "You're so dramatic, you know that?" she said, her voice teasing but warm.
Naruto stared at Smeech's smouldering body for a moment longer before turning his head slightly to glance at Jinx. "What's next?" he asked, his tone even, as if the fight hadn't phased him at all.
Jinx thought for a moment, her pink eyes gleaming. "We need to get to Sevika. If we're going to keep Zaun standing, we need to rally some people who can actually fight."
Naruto nodded. "Agreed. But we also need to deal with Piltover. Caitlyn and Vi are going to keep coming after us. We need to figure out our next move."
Jinx's grin turned wicked. "I've got a few ideas," she said, already plotting as she grabbed Naruto's hand ready to lead him out of ally.
Before they could leave, Isha tugged at Naruto's sleeve, her eyes wide and focused on something in the distance. She pointed with her small hand, directing his gaze toward the lifeless bodies of Smeech's defeated gang members. Beneath one of the corpses, a slight movement caught Naruto's attention. Heenot, one of Smeech's loyal enforcers, was still alive, his breaths shallow as he struggled to free himself from the weight of the fallen.
Naruto tilted his head, a flicker of curiosity crossing his face. "Still alive, huh?" he murmured, stepping closer crouching above him as Jinx followed, her pistol spinning idly in her hand.
Jinx crouched beside Naruto, tilting her head at Heenot like a curious predator. "Should we put him out of his misery?" she asked sweetly, her finger teasing the trigger of her pistol.
"Nah," he said, shaking his head slowly. "We're not killing him."
Jinx's eyes narrowed, her grin faltering for a moment. "Why not? He'd do it to us."
Naruto stood, brushing dirt from his pants, his glowing blue eyes scanning the scene. "Because he's going to help us end this," he said, his voice steady and firm. He turned to Jinx, his expression unreadable. "We leave him."
"What?" Jinx snapped, standing abruptly. "Leave him? He just tried to sell us out!"
"That's exactly why we leave him," Naruto replied, his tone calm but unyielding. "He'll crawl back to Piltover, gasping for air, and tell them exactly where to find us."
Jinx's grin returned, but it was darker now, tinged with intrigue. "You're planning something big, aren't you?"
Naruto didn't answer immediately. He crouched again, getting eye level with Heenot, whose breathing was shallow but steady. "You're going to run back to your new friends," he said coldly. "Tell them you found us. Tell them where we're hiding. Let them come."
Heenot glared weakly, his lips curling into a sneer. "You're insane."
Naruto stood, his gaze flicking to Jinx. "Maybe. But you're going to make sure they hear everything. If you want to live, you'll do exactly what I say."
Jinx let out a low chuckle, twirling her pistol again. "Oh, this is going to be fun."
Naruto turned to Isha, his expression softening. "Come on, kid. Let's go. This place reeks."
As they began to leave, Jinx hesitated, glancing back at Heenot. "You better not mess this up, buddy," she said, her grin sharp as a blade. "Because if you do, I'll make sure you regret it."
Heenot didn't respond, his focus on catching his breath and processing the chaos he had just endured. Naruto and Jinx disappeared into the shadows with Isha between them, their steps purposeful.
As they walked, Jinx leaned closer to Naruto, her voice low and curious. "So, lover boy, what's the plan?"
Naruto's jaw tightened, and he glanced at her, his glowing eyes flickering like a storm. "We finish this," he said simply. "Once and for all."

That's the end… So, how are we feeling about the new King and his Queen, lol
How did you like the fight scenes? Were they good?
I'm trying to tweak things as we go, making more original ideas while keeping the story dynamic.
Naruto's personality is definitely different now because of the core he's become cold and calculated.
What about the Jinx and Naruto moments? Are you enjoying those? And how about little Isha adorable, right?
Let me know your thoughts!
I hope you all enjoyed it, and until next time.
