Chapter 1: Evadere

As soon as she knew her true identity, it was a matter of time before they'll have her head. Keeping it hidden wasn't an option for much longer.

So, she ran away.

She was on the Fire border, she made it in three days out of a normal four-day trip. If she was an exceptional ninja, she would've made it much faster, but then again it wasn't in her blood to be a ninja, let alone an exceptional one. She took a few minutes to contemplate her standing. She needed a new direction to threw off the possible search party at her toes. It was a race against the clock, and she had to win if she wanted to succeed. There was no other choice.

Her final destination was near but at the same time, it wasn't. She only had the old map, one she couldn't believe it was still readable. She remembered she had to pass through the border and locate the 'Alba Saltus', then she'll know where to go. In fact, she didn't know exactly what that meant, but she was sure her instinct would guide her, even more in her current situation, where her survival skills would be useful. She still ran, in a few hours she would be there and then... she'll know if her true calling was right.

"Hyūga." she was stopped by the baritone voice she faintly recognized.

In an instant, she panicked looking around her and noticed the dark cloaked figure. She took a stance; they've found her, she realized with a tremor in her spine.

"Please..." she murmured. "Just let me go."

"I cannot do that." The same male voice said, stepping into the shadows. Her eyes widened in complete recognition.

Of course, the Hokage from the shadows.

"You don't understand." She said. "I need to go." Her desperation was palpable, but she did not let that deterred her.

Being one of the fastest shinobis in the world, Hinata knew getting away from him would be nearly impossible. The village sent him because he would be ahead of the search party that was already looking for her. However, she still had time, but she knew she could not convince him to let her get away without a fight.

The Uchiha did not respond but rather summoned a messenger hawk. "Hyūga Hinata is safe. Do not send reinforcements." With that, the animal shot up straight to the sky.

Once the two shinobis were alone, she knew she had to act fast.

"Uchiha-san, I have to get going." She did not make a gesture of defense, neither did he, but it was obvious that he will not hesitate to detain her. But quite frankly she didn't want to hurt him.

"Why did you ran away?" He asked more as a procedure. Sasuke honestly did not care, he was contacted by Naruto who was alarmed by the sudden disappearance of the girl in front of him, and that was enough to make him care... for a bit.

The moment he intercepts her was the moment this so-called emergency was over.

"You wouldn't understand." the cautiousness in her voice ever-present.

He raised his eyebrow, he could understand alright, he knew all about running away. From what he had deduced, it was possible that her reasoning was not a strong one, but rather a selfish one. Which made him dislike her. She was the Heiress, she had a family. Everything he was precociously taken away from. In his mind, he could not pardon her, let alone hear her reasoning.

She could bawl her lilac orbs for all he cared, he will not succumb to such menial tricks.

'This girl is not that bright after all...' he thought.

He sighed. "I'm not here for games." He said. "Don't do anything you would lament later on." The hollowness in his voice let out the warning.

The quiet in the clearing was enough to make her reflect. She looked at the moon who was suddenly shinning on her telling her a message she knew well. Despise the words of the man in front of her, she had no other choice.

"I'm sorry Uchiha-san." She activated her Byakugan and fast as if waiting for her he deflected her kunai with one of his own. The fight was desperate on her part which made him act rapidly without much thought. Slightly amused by this girl's actions.

He asked himself what was her reason to run away and to fight the way she was fighting. Seeing an opening on her left side he kicked effectively ruining her stance and therefore, the chance to get up. Sheathing his katana he pointed it to her slender neck. While amusing, she wasn't an exceptional ninja, but then again only him and Naruto were exceptional, even if he doesn't acknowledge it often.

"I told you to not do anything that you would later lament." He said looking into her, still, activated Byakugan.

She gulped slowly. "I still need to go," She said. And in a moment her Dōjutsu was deactivated but almost at the same second her hands glowed in lavender spheres and aimed towards him. "Orbis." she exhaled.

He felt himself flying across from the impact of the strange energy. One thing he knew for sure, it wasn't chakra, nor anything he heard or have ever imagined, which made the Hyūga fugitive a threat in a second. With his interest picked he knew this search became personal. Taking a few seconds to locate her again, he noticed he was a couple of hundreds of kilometers way back from her.

Was that how strong the strange attack was? He did not know but that was enough reason for him to intercept her.

Now, using the full capacity of his speed he went after her. Thanks to his travels around the world he became a taciturn person, someone that just protected without looking for a fight. A total 180 of his avenger days and he was proud at times for his character development. However, a small part of him, deep down, still missed the thrill of having a goal. In those days his mindset was getting stronger and to avenge his deceased clan. When that was over, he felt he had lived ten lives in one, he felt old and everything became beige in his eyes. But now with the present situation, he felt the old him coming back, and if he was being honest with himself he liked it.

He missed this.

The thrill...

The Chase...

The Goal.

The Hyūga fugitive was his goal at this present moment.

He saw her a few minutes from him; her black tresses were flying with the fast wind in every direction. He took a kunai and aimed at her shoulder to detain her, but just as he was confident that his offense would succeed, he saw said weapon stop in mid-air, turned around, and aim towards him at full speed. He barely evaded, he could feel his wide eyes looking at the kunai, now stuck in the tree trunk behind him in disbelief.

'How did she do that...?' he asked, his thoughts running wild on how to approach this strange individual. Looking at her at first glance he just saw a timid thing, with a purple cloak and frightened eyes, appearing completely harmless. But he committed a mistake, this girl wasn't timid, she was danger personified. He thought of using his Space-Time Jutsu to intercept her ahead, but he knew this Jutsu drained his chakra, and even if he could still make a few techniques, he did not know the arsenal of the Hyūga. Let alone did not know what she really was, and her powerful attacks didn't need chakra at all.

He was clearly at a disadvantage of fighting this unknown threat.

Running after her again, the most logical thing right now would be going back to his primal abilities, and his speed was not something menial, he could catch up to her with no problem at all, which is what they did. She escaping and he going after not losing sight of her for the next hour. He saw her on the edge of a cliff.

'What is she doing?'

She looked at him, feeling guilty, even if she hadn't talked to him in the past. She knew he was Naruto's friend and she cared for the blonde Hokage. But there were pressing stuff, she had a duty and a destiny to fulfill. Even if it meant running away from Konoha. Right now, the ex avenger represented everything that meant a lot to her, meaning her home. She remembered her friends, her family, and of course her little sister, but by doing this she was protecting everything she loves, and she did not care if it meant becoming a fugitive.

"Uchiha-san..." she called. "Please, don't follow me anymore." she implored.

"What are you?" he demanded in an almost desperate tone. The wind picked up the black hair that usually hides his Rinnegan that was now looking menacingly at her.

She gulped. "I'm afraid I can't tell you..."

"Why?" his tone was getting impatient, and she looked at the water down the cliff. The memorized map indicated this was the place.

Still, she was confused. 'This was it?'

She couldn't even sit down and meditate on what her next move should be.

"I don't know." Even if she whispered it; he had heard her.

She noticed that his eyebrows were trembling in confusion. "I'm not here for your stupid game Hyūga!" his frustration got the better of him, he hated being mocked.

The moon shone brightly, she looked again ignoring the menacing tone of the guy in front of her; it was the signal. She wasn't mistaken, this was the place. She was tempted to smile, and she would've if she didn't have company.

"I don't know what I am, but I'm going to figure it out," she said in a determined. She took an impulse of courage and let gravity take her down the cliff. Sasuke didn't even register what happened but he went to look at the furious water. For the first time in a while, he was at a loss of words. The wind picked up again, playing with his hair but he barely noticed, his mind engaged in full chaos.

'What just happened?' is what ultimately prevailed.

He had more questions than answers, and he hated that. He looked again at the sky, and summoning another hawk he said three words:

"Hyūga Hinata escaped."
