A/N: Bloody sick day!

I had a plan for today, but I feel like crap.

Day 35 of, site notifications are busted at the moment.

Folks get them in the app, but not on the web browser OR THEIR EMAILS which is becoming a proper pain for some of us. Hopefully they'll fix it soon...though it has been almost a month days with no response about the emails...

If this chapter gets a ton of feedback as well-hopefully!-then I'll do my best to ensure a weekly update again. If not...I don't know. I really don't.

Amazing what a bit of feedback can do. Really spurs me to write faster.

In other news depression's starting to hit real hard these days. I've been writing here for fifteen years and yet sometimes I wonder why I do anything at all. I can't claim to understand what's going wrong with my head. I don't even know why! One moment I'm fine, then my mood craters for a few hours, then I'm back again for a bit, and the cycle repeats. Its rather annoying; as though I've become a prisoner in my own mind sometimes. Sure, what's one more mental problem on the pile. Not like I don't have enough, what with already being this old. Feels like every day is a battle sometimes. My doctor is of no help at all. Can't find a proper therapist to save my life.

Trying to find a decent an AFFORDABLE one is absolute hell, and its driving me bonkers. *siiiigh* Don't mind the rambling of this geezer...

No questions this time. Someone complained. Ah, well. I think I've kept you waiting long enough already, dear reader.

As ever, I own no quotes, references, themes, or memes. Not a wit or a one!

They're tributes to legends far greater than little old me.

Fair warning, this one's an AU. You know the one.

"There is nothing so powerful in this world as a good story. We love them, crave them, lose ourselves in them.

After all, reality is often disappointing. But fiction...fiction is eternal.

There are as many stories as stars in the night sky."

Fairy Tales

...and they all lived happily ever after."

Naruto closed the weathered storybook with a pleased sigh.

"More, more!" Tiny hands tugged at his sleeve almost immediately, accompanied by a pair plaintive little voices he knew all too well. "Tell us just one more, pretty please!"

He pretended to consider it for a moment if only to string them along. That was a mistake; the moment he hesitated they each latched onto him and held tight, all but dragging him back into bed. There could be no true escape now without upsetting them and he'd sooner die than do that.

Didn't stop them from ruffling their red hair, though.

A chorus of merry giggles greeted him.

"Daddy, no!

"Stop, that tickles!"

Two perfect children. Twins! Who would've thought! Their mother certainly had one helluva time bringing them into the world.

Their names were Renna and Reyna.

By the sage, he really was pants at names, but he felt these suited them well enough, and they'd never once complained within earshot. Apparently the Uzumaki blood still ran strong in his veins; because not only were they redheads, but they were each fair of face bearing striking violet blue eyes...and faintly whiskered cheeks.

Nor were these his only children.

Many of his sons and daughters were sound asleep in their cribs.

But Reyna and Renna were the eldest, always wanting him to read them a bedtime story.

Sure, he was happy to oblige them, -made him feel proper needed it did- but the fact remained.

Kushina and Minato -Mom and Dad!- would've been all over Reyna, Renna and the rest. Jiraiya would have absolutely spoiled these two rotten.

It made him miss his own world. Maybe he'd find a way back someday. That quiet hope still persisted within him now, even after five years.

"Daddy?"

"Alright, alright." he crooned softly. "One more story. Which one would you like to hear?"

Reyna raised one of her many hands. "Tell us how you and mama met!"

"And how you became Elden Lord!" Renna chirruped.

He winced. "I would, but that's a long one...

His girls grinned at him.

.

..

...screw it.

Drawing them close, he opened the book once more.

"Well you see, it all started when a golden fox fell from the sky...

A/N: Hope this put a smile on your face in these trying times.

Next time: I am Him.

Hope this little tidbit of a teaser made you smile!

As ever, reviews are the fuel that sustain me. Without them I cannot write a single word. Simple as that. Working nearly all hours of the day keep me absurdly busy, as such, I can't bring myself to write something folks don't like.

Aaaand there we go. As ever, reviews keep me alive. Without them, I cannot write.

So...in the Immortal Words of Atlas...Review...Would You Kindly?

Only a few previews here. Sorry. In a lot of pain.

(Previews)

There was a hole in his chest.

Funny, he would've thought that might hurt. But it didn't. There was no pain, none at all, none whatsoever. Damn thing wasn't even bleeding anymore. It was right where his heart should be; the Elden Beast had seen to that much, but it hadn't killed him...

.

..

...more fool it.

You can take the hwas beginning to think this was some sort of a cosmic joke.

He sat on the throne.

So damn lonely.

...you're not going to get up, are you?"

She raised her arms. "Carry me!'

...such a needy girl."

"Neither you, nor any of these people know what chakra can do. Here. Let me show you.

He held up a hand, fingers lazily clenching into a claw...

"Enjoy this Rasenshuriken."

...then he let it fly.

Seluvis died screaming.

Guess your bark is worse than your bite."

The Erdtree could not speak, but he could've sworn it made a groaning noise just then.

Naruto placed both palms together and closed his eyes ever so patiently.

"Right, tearing you up by the roots now. BIJUDAMA!"

EDIT: Hope you enjoyed this, and may your day be filled with lots of luck!

Warm regards,

~Nz.
