Chapter 2: Learning the Role
The battle against the serpent monster left Alex exhilarated and overwhelmed. The adrenaline was still coursing through his veins as he and the other Rangers teleported back to the Command Center. The green armor, heavy yet empowering, still clung to his body.
"You did good out there," Jason said, clapping Alex on the back. "For a first-timer."
Alex managed a small smile but couldn't shake the doubt gnawing at him. The others moved to regroup, chatting about strategy, but Alex lingered near the back.
Zordon's voice cut through the room. "Alex, step forward."
Alex hesitated, then approached the glowing tube. "What's up?"
"You have taken your first step as a Power Ranger, but the journey ahead will not be easy," Zordon said. "The Dragon Coin's power is immense, and it requires discipline to wield it wisely. You must learn to balance the power within you."
Alpha 5 shuffled over with a device in his hands. "This is a Power Scanner," the robot said. "It'll help us monitor your connection to the Dragon Coin. Since this power was once corrupted by evil, we need to make sure it stays stable."
"Wait, corrupted?" Alex asked, his eyes widening.
Kimberly stepped forward, her voice soft. "The Green Ranger powers used to belong to Tommy. Rita controlled him, and...it almost destroyed us."
Alex looked at the Morpher on his belt. "So, what if it happens again? What if I can't handle it?"
"You can," Jason said firmly. "Because you've got us. We'll have your back."
The reassurance brought a small measure of comfort, but Alex still felt the weight of responsibility pressing on him.
Zordon continued, "To master your powers, you must train with the team and understand the bond between you and the Dragon Zord."
"The Dragon Zord?" Alex asked.
Alpha waved excitedly. "Oh yes! It's a colossal Zord that responds to the Dragon Flute. It's tied to your power, but it'll take time for you to summon and control it."
Jason grinned. "We'll start training tomorrow. For now, get some rest. You earned it."
The others began to leave, teleporting out one by one. Alex lingered, staring at the Command Center's glowing panels.
"Something wrong?" Kimberly asked, turning back.
Alex hesitated. "It's just...I never thought I'd be part of something like this. I'm not sure I belong here."
Kimberly gave him a reassuring smile. "None of us thought we'd be here either. But Zordon saw something in you, just like he saw something in us. Trust that."
With that, she teleported out, leaving Alex alone with his thoughts.
As he finally teleported back home, Alex sat on his bed, the Dragon Morpher resting in his hand. He felt the power pulsing through it, a reminder of the responsibility he'd just taken on.
"I'll figure this out," he muttered to himself. "I have to."
Unbeknownst to him, far above the Earth, Rita Repulsa stood on her moon base, peering into her telescope.
"So, Zordon thinks his new Green Ranger can replace my Tommy?" she sneered. "We'll see about that."
Behind her, Goldar growled, his sword gleaming in the moonlight. "Shall we attack again, my queen?"
"Not yet," Rita said, her eyes narrowing. "Let him get comfortable. The stronger he thinks he is, the sweeter his fall will be."
She cackled, her laughter echoing through the cold, dark void of space.
Back on Earth, Alex fell asleep, unaware of the storm that was brewing.
