Chapter one:
Kaoru sighs softly as he walks down the hall during lunch after having already eaten. He felt the need for some peace and quiet and this hallway is usually pretty quiet. He stretches his arms above his head enjoying the change of the quiet hallway. His eyes closed as he lets himself relax glad that Hikaru had something else to do and understood his brothers want for quiet. He pauses mid stretch and opens one eye in slight confusion when he can swear that he hears crying up ahead. He listens closely and sure enough there is someone crying up ahead. He lowers his arms to his sides and opens both of his eyes. He can't even feel disappointed at his quiet time being interrupted as he is worried about why someone is crying. He heads towards the sound and turns a corner to find a small girl sitting on the floor of the hallway. He can confirm that the crying is coming from her. He glances around her wondering what has made her so upset. He spots some students who enjoys pranks hiding behind a nearby door with a fake spider on a stick.
The three students are peeking around the door looking like they just screwed up big time.
"H-Hey. It wasn't meant for you." One of them tries to explain only for the little girl to continue crying the same amount.
Kaoru heads over to the girl and spots the three boys duck out of sight behind the door. He crouches beside her to which she turns to him with wide scared blue eyes. He also hasn't think he's seen anyone as blonde as this except for Tamaki. He mentally shrugs it off. "Hey. Are you okay?"
"It was so scary!" The girl cries with tears basically being waterfalls down her cheeks.
"Um." Kaoru glances around trying to figure out what to do. He turns back to the girl. "Do you have an older sibling or parent around here?" He figures that it might be best to get her to someone who knows her.
"I want my big brother!" The girl almost screams in a wail.
"Ok. Then lets go find him." Kaoru offers his arms to her and the little girl climbs into his arms so he picks her up. He takes her in the opposite direction of the boys that had terrified her. He isn't fully sure what they had done exactly to make her so upset however he doesn't feel like demanding it from them. He pauses by an empty classroom realizing that he doesn't know where to go. "What is your big brother's name?" He is only met with sobs and glances around before entering the empty classroom shutting the door. He sighs sitting down in an extra chair that happens to be in the classroom. He glances around and listens for anyone else but there doesn't seem to be anyone. He turns back to the little girl. He swallows nervously before closing his eyes softly. He does his best to just imagine that he is with Hikaru to calm his nerves. He opens his mouth singing a lullaby he had been listening to on the internet.
The girls sobbing slows and her gaze can be felt on Kaoru as he sings to her with his eyes closed. She listens in silence until the lullaby comes to an end.
Kaoru nervously cracks an eye open and sees that the girl no longer has any tears in her eyes. He lets out a relieved breath and opens both of his eyes. "Okay. Now that you're calmed can you tell me your big brothers name?" He inquires to her and she nods indeed looking calmer compared to before.
"Umehito." The little girl tells Kaoru who doesn't think that he's heard anyone by that name.
"Um. Okay I don't know him." Kaoru admits getting a worried look from the little girl. "No don't worry. It's okay. We'll figure this out." He promises to her bringing her hope back into her eyes. He gets up with her still in his arms. "Oh and could you not tell anyone that I sang to you?" He gets a nod from the little girl and he can only hope that she keeps his promise. He heads out deciding to search for Kyouya who has to know who everyone is surely. He at least hopes so wanting to get this over with. He finds the other in the club room flipping through his black book. "Hey. Kyouya?"
Kyouya turns to him and as usual doesn't allow him to see his eyes due to the glare on his glasses. "Hm? Who is this?"
"Um. I am not sure." Kaoru admits glancing to the girl as he approaches the other male. "I found her crying while the three prank guys had scared her and they were too cowardly to do anything. She said her big brother is-" He doesn't get to finish as someone calls out from outside the club room. He turns only for the girl to wiggle out of his arms. He lets her go and she hurries towards the door calling out.
A man in a suit comes in and picks her up. "There you are." His hair gives almost butler like vibes. He glances to Kyouya and Kaoru. "Why were you here? I told you not to wander off while I delivered your big brother his books." He tells her and Kaoru steps forward about to explain everything.
"I'm sorry. I wanted to see big brother." The girl lowers her head then turns to point at Kaoru. "When three mean boys scared me he took me and made me feel better."
The man looks to Kaoru who nods his head. "Thank you. I appreciate you helping young master." He slightly bows to Kaoru then turns to head away. "Now it is time to get you home." He tells the girl and leaves.
"Well that settles it." Kaoru lets out a breath glad that it got all figured out in the end.
"Seems so." Kyouya stares at Kaoru. "Do you have some way of handling kids that we don't know about?"
"I was just being nice to her and it worked. So no." Kaoru snorts and Kyouya waves it off to indicate that it doesn't matter. He heads off deciding that there is nothing to do about it.
Later…
Kaoru tells Hikaru quietly about what had happened while in the limo ride back home. He admits how embarrassed he felt that it was the only way he could think of getting it done and had actually done it.
Hikaru slings an arm around Kaoru's shoulders. "Don't be embarrassed." He grins to his brother. "I am proud of what you did. You not only helped out a little girl in need but you also finally let someone else hear your voice!" He pulls his brother close while the other smiles a little sheepishly. "Good job Kaoru."
Kaoru can't help a small chuckle. "Well I guess it was good to help her." He pauses remembering the name that was given to him. "I still have no idea who Umehito is."
"Ah its fine." Hikaru waves it off. "We probably will never know honestly. How about we get your favorite dessert for what you did? I think you deserve it for helping out when it was the right thing to do."
Kaoru nods softly to Hikaru gets the drivers attention and tells him the place to go to which the driver confirms that he'll go there. He partly hopes that this good act won't come around to bite him when he isn't sure he is ready for others to know of him singing.
