Chapter 6: Let the Games Begin
Hercules led the group into Theseb. Scarlet Witch and Sora were amazed by the structures but Spider-Man was looking at Hercules.
Scarlet Witch: (Carrying Sora) What's wrong?
Spider-Man: (Quietly) This Hercules is the same as he is in the Spin-Off T.V series. But he wasn't supposed to fight Nessus until the movie.
Scarlet Witch: (Quietly) That's odd. You think this might be an alternate timeline or something?
Spider-Man: (Quietly) Let me try something. (Getting Hercules' attention) Hey, Herc! Why don't we share stories? Get to know each other.
Hercules: Sure, Spidey.
Hercules explained that when he was a baby, he was stolen from his parents on Mount Olympus and somehow stole most of his Godhood. Hercules' story matched the movie's start. Spider-Man knew how that happened: Hades' lackeys, Pain and Panic, kidnapped him and tried to poison him. But Hercules overpowered them before he drank all of the poison. Had Hercules drank that last drop, it'd have killed him. But it didn't add up to Spider-Man. They soon arrived at an arena with all sorts of fighters: Some were muscle-bound and strong; others were armed with all sorts of weapons. Many tried to flirt with Scarlet Witch but some just stepped back at the sight Sora: Mainly because they weren't interested in being fathers, to which Scarlet Witch was disgusted by it. The ones who didn't mind Sora she was able to tolerate. Oddly enough there were some contests that were accompanied by women and children.
Philoctetes: Okay, let's get you three signed up. (Seeing Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch surprised looks) Don't worry. There's a system for it.
Before he could explain, a contestant ran up. He wore black and blue clothing and a silver helmet with a longsword strapped to his back. This was Hercules' friend, Zack.
Zack: HERC!
Hercules: (Seeing his friend) Zack!
The duo fist bumped each other, having not seen each other for a while.
Zack: Buddy am I happy to see you!
Hercules: Likewise, pal.
Philoctetes: (Addressing him) Zack, you're looking well. Here's a lesson for the both of you… Manners: A hero is polite when it's right.
Hercules: (Realizing what Phil was saying) Oh, sorry! Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Sora… This is Zack, a friend of mine. Zack, this is Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and their son, Sora.
The two blushed in embarrassment.
Duo: We're not together!
Hercules: Sorry. I just assumed since you two are caring for him…
Zack: (Saving his friend's neck) Nice to meet all of you.
Zack playfully ruffled Sora's hair.
Zack: Hey Herc, I found out they got a tag-team match up session. You in, bud?
Hercules: Of course! Your swordman skills and my strength, we'll clean the competition. (Looking at his teacher for approval) Phil?
Philoctetes: One lesson I have been putting off is teaming up with other heroes. This will be a good chance to practice. (To Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch) Now to sign you two up. I'll handle the paperwork. You just got to tell me where both are from.
Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch looked at each other nervously. They were from another world and a city that won't exist for hundreds of years. Surprisingly, Sora saved them.
Sora: Destiny Island.
Philoctetes: Huh, never heard of it… (Not noticing the adult heroes sweating) Eh, must be pretty far away. Alright, that handles that.
The adults sighed in relief. Philoctetes left to sign everyone in and came back later.
Philoctetes: Okay, here's how this is gonna work: Herc, you and Zack are in the Tag-Team Bracket. You two watch each other's back and work as a team.
The duo agreed and left to start.
Philoctetes: (Looking at Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch) I signed you both up for the one-on-one matches.
Scarlet Witch: Wait, we both can't compete. Who'll watch Sora?
Philoctetes: Relax, Scarlet. These competitions always draw in warriors who are also parents. In the event of competitors having kids and unable to find a babysitter, they're always set up to fight one at a time so the kid has someone watching them.
Scarlet Witch sighed in relief. The thought of Sora being grabbed during a match terrified her.
Philoctetes: Spidey, you're up first. Gotta warn you both, thought. I saw a tough competitor while I was signing you both up. He looked like a real bruiser.
Sora: (Tugging on her cape) Ms. Scarlet, I'm hungry.
Finding some gyros, Scarlet Witch was feeding Sora while Spider-Man had his match. His opponent was a strong brute but his wits, speed, and webbing gave him the advantage. By the time his opponent got him to hold still, he was too exhausted and Spidey just pushed him down. Spider-Man immediately went back to Scarlet Witch and Sora, keeping an eye out for thieves. Scarlet Witch walked to the arena as her opponent came. He wore a bronze tunic armor, a big biceps, a sword on his waist, and the very symbol of Sparta burned into his chest.
?: I am Omegius, The Champion of Sparta! I fight in honor of the great Ares, the God of War itself!
Scarlet Witch: (Calling out) Sora, stay with Spidey! Okay, sweetheart?!
Omegius: You?! (Finally getting her attention) You will pay for disrespecting a Son of Sparta!
Scarlet Witch secretly used her powers on herself. Omegius rushed at her and threw a punch, but she caught his arm and redirected him over her shoulder.
Scarlet Witch: (Bored) All brawn, no brains. (Looking at her nails) No wonder Athens is the capital.
Omegius, extremely mad, got up and tried to attack Scarlet Witch but couldn't even touch her. Scarlet Witch threw a kick and Omegius received a blow equivalent to a freight train, knocking out a few of his teeth.
Omegius: (Drawing his blade) Why you…!
Drawing Kitetsu, Scarlet Witch cut it clean through then kicked Omegius right into the wall. When the dust cleared, Omegius was unconscious in the rubble. The crowd cheered at the fight but the only cheered Scarlet Witch actually paid attention to was Sora's. Round after round, Spider-Man and company just kept crushing one opponent after the other.
Scarlet Witch: (Exhausted) I don't think I have another around in me.
Spider-Man: I got one last match then I say we call it quits. We're here on a mission, not to play Gladiators.
Scarlet Witch agreed with the Web-Slinger's idea. Walking into the ring, to Spider-Man's surprise, was his old teammate and friend Luke Cage AKA Power Man. His friend's super suit looked the same as it did when they trained at S.H.I.E.L.D only wider because of his well-developed muscles.
Spider-Man: Power Man?!
Power Man: Spidey?! Aw, man! I am extremely happy to see you!
Philoctetes: (Signaling a Time Out) Hold it! You two know each other?!
Spider-Man: Yeah, we're old teammates.
Sora: Ms. Scarlet, is he a friend?
Scarlet Witch: Yeah, I think he is.
Power Man: I call for a Tag Team Match!
The officials decided to allow it and brought out Hercules and Zack. Power Man cleaned his sunglasses to make sure he was seeing right.
Spider-Man: (Charging) I'll explain later.
Spider-Man took Hercules as Zack rushed at Power Man to keep him back.
Hercules: (Throwing power punches) No hard feelings, Spidey?
Spider-Man: (Dodging and attacking) Nah, man. May the better man win.
Zack was attacking Power Man with his longsword since Power Man's skin was indestructible.
Zack: (Swinging blade) Nice you sticking with your friend, Powers!
Power Man: (Fighting) How about you?
Zack: (Blocking and straining) You want to get to Herc, you have to go through me!
Philoctetes saw this and it sparks his interest on Zack's dedication. Spider-Man and Power Man were forced back-to-back.
Spider-Man: Trade dance partners?!
Power Man: Gladly!
Jumping onto Power Man's shoulders, Spider-Man summoned Wayward Wind and kicked Zack back.
Zack: (Seeing the Keyblade while Hercules fought Power Man) I know that blade!
Spider-Man: A sorcerer gave me the power to borrow it.
Zack: (Charging) Then let me be your instructor on mastering the blade!
Hercules and Power Man matched each other, strength to strength.
Power Man: (Straining) Not bad. You're pretty strong.
Hercules: (Straining) Thanks. You, too.
Hercules eyed Luke's knee and thought of doing a cheap shot but then eyed Sora watching in excitement. Not wanting to upset him with un-sportsmanship, Hercules pushed Power Man back.
Power Man: Guess you choose to fight fair.
Hercules: I either walk away here in victory or defeat in fair sportsmanship.
Power Man smiled and rushed at Hercules, but stopped when he heard Spider-Man scream in pain. Zack dropped his longsword, stunned he somehow caused pain to Spider-Man. Spider-Man's were dripping with his blood from a light cut.
Zack: Spidey… I'm sorry!
Spider-Man: I'm okay. What happened?
Zack: What happened to the barrier?!
?: Yeah. That might be my handiwork.
Suddenly, a giant stone monster appeared in the arena, causing both spectators and most of the combatants to flee.
Spider-Man: Oh, no.
Then Hades appeared in the arena.
