FinFrance: Nuts about You
Francis hummed as he set to work. Tino recently told him about a sweet treat that he really liked, though he couldn't eat it often, and even if he could eat it, he could only eat one at a time. Francis was pleased to know that it was something from his own country, and he set to work making macarons for Tino. He made several different flavours to give Tino some variety.
He had already finished the first batch when Tino entered the kitchen. His eyes immediately fell on the macarons and they sparkled.
"Are these macarons?" he asked.
"Oui," Francis replied with a smile. "I made them especially for you. Also, there are no almonds in these, so you can eat as many as you'd like."
"Really?"
Tino looked as though Christmas had come early. He immediately grabbed a macaron and broke it apart, eating each part separately. He moaned in delight as he gave Francis another smile.
"Kiitos!" he exclaimed.
"Anything for you, mon amour," Francis said with his own tender smile.
So, I have a mild nut allergy. Not bad enough that it can send me to the hospital, but it does make it harder to breathe, and I itch in a lot of places, including on the inside of my throat, and my mouth becomes numb. I also love macarons, but I can only eat one of them at a time with a good dose of antihistamine, and even then, my lips go numb. I remember seeing a recipe for macarons without almond flour, and I'm going to try to make it some time.
