Clark kneels inside Kairi Tanaga's dojo in Gotham City. Clark had been learning martial arts from her for years now, and today he was at the next step on his journey.

"You are a perplexing student Mr. Kent." Kairi begins as she paces the floor back and forth in front of Clark.

"Sometimes you disappear for weeks, months at a time, yet you always return and with your skills honed." She continues.

"I know sensei, I mean no disrespect." Clark says.

"When you are here you do as you are asked, you clean the dojo as commanded and follow my instructions." Kairi says.

"You're a good master." Clark says.

"And you are always complimentary." Kairi says.

Clark says nothing, just remains kneeling.

"Hm." Kairi says as she steps away for a moment.

She returns with a wooden box.

"Break this box, show me your skill." Kairi says.

Clark nods as he looks at the box. He could smash it with ease. But he wants to make sure his strike is clean and precise. He focuses and prepares with a fighting stance.

"Yah!" Clark yells out as he punches forward and smashes the box.

Kairi surveys the damage.

"Very good, very good indeed, your attack was very clean." Kairi says.

"Thank you, sensei." Clark says, with a bow.

Kairi reveals what is inside the box, a red belt.

"This red is a symbol, for the hot strength of the sun. That strength of the sun that gives strength to everything on Earth. Everything from you, to me." Kairi explains.

"Yes sensei." Clark says.

"Red is also a symbol of danger. You have advanced skills now; you are dangerous Mr. Kent." Kairi says.

"I only want to use my knowledge to defend." Clark says.

"Very good Mr. Kent. Take it, you've earned it." Kairi says, as she hands the belt to Clark.

Clark looks at the belt, he reflects on the journey he has taken thus far, and how far he intends to continue going.

"Thank you for this honor sensei." Clark says.

"I expect to see you for class next Tuesday." Kairi says.

"Of course, sensei, I will be here." Clark says.

"Very good, see you then." Kairi says.

"Can I help you clean up?" Clark asks.

"Always looking for extra credit Mr. Kent. No, you are free to go." Kairi says.

"Thank you, sensei." Clark says as he exits Kairi's dojo.

Clark flies to Lois' apartment in Metropolis. Since Clark moved back to his home in Smallville, the two had to downgrade their Metropolis home in order to afford both. He is giddy to tell her about his achievement in his karate class. Lois congratulates him with a kiss.
