Hello, so sorry I couldn't publish this a day sooner but here it is. I hope you all enjoy it.
I Accidently Vaporise my Algebra Teacher Part Three:
(Phoebe's Point of View)
I couldn't believe it. Grover, my best and only friend was half goat? "Who are you? What are you?".
Grover removed his beanie, revealing horns. "I'm a satyr. And I'm your Protector. My job has been to guide you to this moment,".
"Why didn't you tell me?".
"I had to keep you safe. It's why I had to get you kicked out of school after Dodds attacked you?".
"You got me kicked out of school? And you knew about Dodds?".
"I didn't realise she was a Fury until it was too late. The Mist kept her hidden,".
"What's the Mist?".
"It's the barrier that hides the magical world from the human world. My legs. Dodds wings. Even Dodds's absence. But it isn't supposed to hide things from me. That never happens. So, the sooner we get to camp, the better …,".
"Camp? What camp?" I asked.
"Wait, you didn't tell her about camp?" he asked my mother.
"Not yet," My mother answered. "You tell her now,".
"Camp is a sanctuary for half-bloods. A safe space where you can learn who you are and what the world is like on the other side of the Mist,".
I didn't know what to believe. But my best friend and Protector had goat legs, and Miss Dodds was not my imagination. "And where exactly is this camp?".
"Not far, actually, just a little ways past the bend up there," he instructed Mum.
"Mum, what else haven't we talked about?" I asked. "What else haven't you told me?". Before she could open her lips, there was a loud explosion. I looked back through the rear window and saw the flash of a destroyed streetlight, and in that flash, I saw a stampeding beast charging after us. I saw horns and a pair of underpants.
"Is that the Minotaur?!" I screamed. I wanted to close my eyes and wake up, so this was all a dream, but what good would it do?
"Once the attacks happen, they never stop. Dodds was just the beginning. Remember the Mythomagic cards we played with? They were preparing you, training you for what's ahead of you,".
"What's ahead of me?" I wanted to scream.
"hold on!" My mother cried. The Minotaur caught up to us. Bang! The car shook. My mother turned the wheel to hit it back. But then crash! A large horn was caught in the wheel. A blaring lorry was coming right at us. Mum pushed the pedal, and we shot ahead.
Smash! Crack! I looked back and saw the lorry toppling over the Minotaur. We could hear the metallic scrapping and watched the explosion. But the tyres of the car were screeching. Mum had lost control of the car. We spun in circles. And then thud!
I hit my head but didn't lose consciousness. The car lights were facing up. We were trapped in a ditch, metres from the road. "Mum, you're alright?".
"I'm fine," I felt her fingers through my hair.
"Grover, are you okay?".
"I'm fine," he groaned. "But my leg,".
"Don't move," I pushed the damaged door open and pulled him out very slowly. "I've got you. I've got you,".
(Jason's Point of View)
After the shower, Luke took me back to the pebble beach that faced the sea. "Luke, we could catch a cold out there,". I told him.
"Come on. You know a good visit to Phitilis and Theremia will do you some good. Remember how we summoned her?"
I chuckled. "How could I forget?".
Luke pulled out two flat green stones, and we flicked them across the water, sending glowing green ripples. The head of a blue serpentine dragon with fins rose from the water. "How nice to you boys hanging about. And on a rainy day of all days. Loving your hair as always, Jason,". Her melon-sized paw with retracted claws ruffled my hair.
I laughed. "Stop it, Theremia," I playfully pushed her away.
"Hey! You used to love those hair strokes,".
"Not anymore. I am twelve years old, you know,".
"I'm nineteen, and I still like them," Luke said goofily.
"You shouldn't," another voice echoed from under the water. A mermaid with long brown hair covering her chest and green eyes rose to the surface. Her tail was blue and shiny.
"How nice to see you too, Phitilis," Luke greeted.
"Let me guess. Your brother snuck off into the outside world?" I nodded. "Well, I can tell you it is not as easy as you think, Jason. I should know. I spent a whole year there undercover as a student,".
I became curious. "What was it like?".
"A real nightmare. And I was attracting danger everywhere I went. Just as I bet you were attracting danger when you went,".
"More like I had to get into danger to save a girl from trouble,". I showed them my wounds.
"Ooo," Theremia winced. "What did that to you?".
"Theremia," Luke hissed.
"A pack of Furies. They were so crazy," I pulled my sleeves down. "But it's over now. I won't be going out into the outside world for a while now,".
"Come on, Jason. You've always wanted to see the outside world," Phitilis tried to encourage me.
"I'm not so sure anymore. I couldn't even handle myself alone with those Furies," I confessed. "Sometimes I pretend to be brave so Chiron doesn't keep worrying about me. But now I realise how right he is to worry,".
"He shouldn't keep worrying for you. But he has to protect you," the water dragon pointed out. "It's what he's always done for you,".
"I need to go and think for a bit," I attempted to walk off, but Luke grabbed my hand.
"Jason?".
"I need to be at Thalia's tree for a bit,".
"I'm not sure about that,".
"Luke, I'll be right behind it. No monster is gonna get through. I'll be fine," I promised. "I just need somewhere else to clear my head,".
"Let him go, Luke," our water dragon friend said.
"Just don't be out too long,".
"I know I won't,". I punched his offered fist-bump, and I walked out of the camp and up the hill towards the tall pine trees and sat out in the pouring rain to admire the night colours of the countryside. Akeda suddenly appeared, beginning to more strokes, and Cody came too.
"She sniffed you out, and here you are," he remarked, proud of his wolf companion's tracking skills. "It's unusual for you to be out here on a rainy day,".
"I needed to clear my head,".
"I'm sorry about how today went for you,".
"Don't be," I patted the log beside me, and he sat down.
"Do you remember what today is?" he asked.
I chuckled. "It's the day I first ran away, and then on my way out, I found you,".
"Don't forget these two furry friends," Cody stroked the brown bear, who licked his face like a mother would her cubs. "Come on, Jason. Why are you up here?".
"I was thinking about my parents. Where I'm from," I touched my charm. "I just wish I knew who they were,".
"One day you'll know,".
"If only I knew which god blessed me. Maybe they would have the answers,".
"The answers will come, Jason. You just have to be patient,". Akeda and Tuastos started growling. "What is it, girls?". He listened carefully.
"What are they saying?" I asked.
Cody's eyes narrowed. "There's something out there,". I looked into the distance, and I saw, over a short distance down the hill and in the forest, a pair of bright yellow lights.
(Phoebe's Point of View)
Mum and I helped Grover walk a bit. "Grover, I am entrusting you to protect my daughter, my only child,". She said to him.
"Wait? What?".
"You will keep Phoebe from anyone that wants to harm, that looks at her the wrong way. Do you understand me?".
"What is happening?".
Still, my mother ignored me. "Swear it, Grover!".
"Don't worry, Mrs. Jackson. Phoebe will be safe at camp,". He promised.
"You're coming with us too, right?" I begged Mum.
Mum hung her head down in sorrow. "She's human," Grover said sadly. "The barrier won't let her through,".
"What are you …". Before I could finish my question, a loud booming roar echoed from the trees behind us. The Minotaur was closing in.
"I've gotta go now, Sweetheart," my mother said.
"No," I begged, beginning to shed a tear.
"Remember what I taught you. Remember the stories I told you. Especially the stories they will tell you,".
"No," I begged. "I'm not leaving you, mum. I just won't," I began to cry. "I need you,".
"You have to leave me. You're meant to. Phoebe, listen to me," my mother held my face, wiping away my tears. "You are not broken. You are special. And you are my daughter. Hold fast. Brave the storm. I love you. I love you more than anything," she kissed my head.
I wanted to say something. But the Minotaur's roars drew closer and closer.
"Give me your coat," my mother suddenly said.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm gonna distract it to give you both some time to escape.. Please, Phoebe. There's no time,".
I pulled off my red coat and gave it to her before she held my cheek. "It'll be okay, sweetheart. Everything will be okay. Now go. Go!" she begged, and she ran off holding my red coat out like a red blanket used by Spanish bullfights. Fighting my tears, I pulled Grover's arm around my neck and felt his heavy weight with his goat legs leaning against me as I half-dragged him towards the hill where tall pine trees stood overlooking the forests.
(Jason's Point of View)
I saw the bright car lights down the hill. And something loud and ferocious was moving through the trees. Then, a loud booming voice echoed through the air.
"Is that the Minotaur?" Cody breathed.
"Yes. And if it's coming towards that car., Then that means … Oh, my giddy gods. Cody get Chiron and the others. If a half-blood is down there, they'll need help,".
"Jason …,".
"I have to go down there and help,".
"I know. Take Tuastos. She can help,".
The bear growled and genuflected so I could climb on her back. "You got this, guys," my youngest friend encouraged. We charged down the hill, and I pulled out my golden dagger again.
(Phoebe's Point of View)
As I dragged Grover beside me, I looked back and saw a ginormous black bull twice the size of Mum stomping towards the car, standing on its back feet. Its horns were curvy, and its eyes were dark. "Hey! Hey!" My mother waved my coat around, and the Minotaur chased the coat, attracted the colour. No. I couldn't leave her. "Stay here, Grover,". I leaned him against a rock.
"Phoebe!" he cried, but I started running back towards my mum.
"No, no, no. Mum!" I cried. I watched helplessly as the Minotaur knocked her down and lifted her off the muddy ground with its front left hand, its fist the size of a boulder. "Mum!"
As her eyes saw me one last time, she vanished into specks of dust and light, just like Alecto back at the museum. I froze, and the tears left my eyes again. My mother was gone. Killed by the Minotaur right in front of my eyes. The Minotaur turned its head and saw me.
"Phoebe, run!" Grover begged. "Leave me!".
But I couldn't move. The Minotaur's hideous eyes saw me, and it stood on all fours again. And it charged. I slipped back, and I saw the beast stampeding right at me, its horns aiming for my chest. I ignored Grover's screams, preparing to accept my awaiting death. But before the beast could kill me, a giant brown bear appeared out of nowhere and knocked it back, shovelling into some trees.
"Take that, you Minotaur!".
It was the same boy from the museum, the one Mr Brunner knew, riding a bear? The brown bear drew out its claws the length of knives and swiped at the Minotaur, striking its face. The boy leapt from her back and rushed over to me. He froze. "It's you again," he breathed. He offered a hand, but I wouldn't take it. Still, he bent down and pulled me up to my feet. "You're safe now. Just let me help you,".
"Jason!" Grover cried out. I stared back at his pale face. Did he know this boy?
"Grover!" Jason rushed over and helped him up. "Are you hurt?".
"We need to get Phoebe into the camp,".
"Phoebe?" he breathed, looking back at me. I remained speechless. I had just watched that monster kill my mother, and they expected me to move.
"Phoebe, I'm sorry about what you just saw," Grover said in tears. "But we need to move now,".
The bear the boy Jason was riding fought the Minotaur, scratching its face, but the beast's horns pierced its side, and it roared in pain. The Minotaur lifted the animal and threw it to the side, focusing back on us, his smaller but more preferable prey.
"Run!" Jason begged, pulling out his dagger. "Phoebe, take Grover! You'll be safe past the tree,". Passing me to Grover, I watched him pull out his small but lethal weapon and charge at the monster. He scratched the Minotaur's face again. Then he tried another swipe, but his dagger hit the horn instead, causing a crack. Then punch! He was sent flying through the air, rolling across the ground, his head hitting a rock. Grover and I could do nothing but watch as the Minotaur lifted a huge rock and held it over Jason to crush him. I couldn't let that happen. The boy had saved my life twice, and now I would save his. I placed Grover down and ignored his cries. I plucked Jason's dagger from the ground and shouted: "Hey! Hey!".
The Minotaur looked at me. I was braver. I was no longer afraid of it. HE marched upon me. I could barely hold my breath as I held my only weapon. The Minotaur threw the boulder. I dodged out of the weapon. It swiped its head at me, but I managed to dodge back, falling into the mud again. It tried to poke its horn in me again, but I rolled out of the way. Then, as quick as I could, I climbed onto its back to stab it. But it tried to buck me off. I dropped the blade but I grabbed onto its back hair, determined not to give him. I saw a crack in its horn from Jason's blow and got an idea. I managed to lasso my legs around the neck, break the horn off with my surprisingly strong hands and stab!
I had stabbed the horn right through its head. It fell back, and I landed in the mud, my head smacking the ground. My vision turned blurry, but in the bare light still emitting from the car years away, I saw numbers of orange-shirted campers rushing down the hall, and a centaur was with them. The tallest kid fell before the body of Jason. And everything turned dark.
(Jason's Point of View)
"Jason! Jason! Can you hear us?!" I opened my eyes and saw Luke's wet, relieved face. And Annabeth and Cody's, too.
"You're okay," Cody cried, and Annabeth hugged him tightly.
We were in the infirmary. A bandage was wrapped around my head, and my arm was wrapped up. Luke helped me sit up. "You never stop giving us a scare,". He joked.
"What happened?!" I blurted out. "Is the Minotaur dead? Where are Grover? And Phoebe?".
"Phoebe? Who's Phoebe?" Annabeth asked.
"The demi-god he was escorting here,".
"She killed it," Cody said.
"What?".
"She killed the Minotaur," he turned his head, and I copied his line of vision. We saw Grover sitting beside Phoebe, slightly bruised. On her bedside table was a piece of the Minotaur's horn.
Annabeth suddenly burst out crying. "Annabeth's, it's okay," I told her. "I'm alright,".
"When we heard you were out on the hill near the tree, I was so scared. I thought we were gonna lose you like we lost Thalia,".
I had never met Thalia in my life. Annabeth and Luke always talked about her, telling me of the story of her sacrifice. I patted Annabeth's hand, and she gripped my fingers tightly. "I'm alright," I promised.
"He's right, Annabeth. No Minotaur can kill Jason, the hero," Luke cheered, and we chuckled. "Still, that was very brave what you did, Jason. You saved Grover and that girl,".
"Can't take all the credit. The Minotaur would have killed me, and Phoebe saved me and my bear steed,".
The clopping of hooves made our heads turn, and we saw Chiron in the doorway. "I would like a word with Jason, please. He will need rest,".
Annabeth gave me one last warm hug, and she and the boys walked out of the infirmary. Chiron sat on his horse legs beside me, and I sat up, unable to turn away from his wet eyes. "I truly am sorry. I know I disobeyed orders again, Chiron …,".
"No, I'm the one who should be sorry. You did the right thing, Jason. Without you, Grover and that girl wouldn't have been able to stand a chance against the Minotaur. I'm proud of you,". He patted my hand.
I had to be imagining it. "You are?".
His tears were tearful, and so was his smile. "You saved her life. Just like you did back at the museum. But I won't deny you still gave me quite a fright,". He wiped his eyes.
"I don't mean to disappoint you or make things harder for you,". I had never felt more guilty than ever for neglecting everything Chiron had done for me. I felt I had brought him a great burden but all I saw in his face was love. But his arm is around my shoulders. I felt his fatherly gaze sending warm tingles through my body. I felt like I would cry.
"No, you could never, ever disappoint me, my boy,". And I fell into the warmth of his arms, letting out my emotions. As he pulled back, he looked again at Phoebe, still being tended to by Grover.
"Chiron, I don't know how to explain this, but … I feel like I'm drawn to that girl,".
"Phoebe Jackson,".
"I know it's weird, but … out of every other demigod I've met, I've never felt sure about this one,".
. "I know for years you've wondered which out of the gods blessed you and brought you to me. I'm starting to believe this child could be the answer. For now, she must rest, and in time, we may see who claims her. And you need rest too. I'll escort you back to Luke,".
Chiron let me ride his horse body. It was fun. I remembered how, as a child, I would sit on his back whilst he'd gallop around the fields, and we'd see the sea and Long Island for miles. I missed those times. And thinking about them made me realise how much this wise and loving centaur meant to me.
As expected, Luke was waiting for us, and he helped me down onto my strained feet. "Sleep well, you two," my guardian bid. "And when Phoebe Jackson wakes her up, I want you to make her feel welcomed. She's suffered a great loss this night, and she needs affection and care,".
"You can count on us," I promised. Chiron touched my shoulder one last time before he wandered off.
" 'Great loss'?" Luke repeated. "What's he talking about?".
I pursed my lips. "Phoebe's mother was killed by the Minotaur. Grover told him,".
Luke's lips parted. "Oh no. She must be so heartbroken,".
"It'll break her heart knowing that killing that monster achieved nothing. We should get her stuff tomorrow and make her a nice sleeping spot,".
"Absolutely. But let's rest. We've got a big day tomorrow. You're on top bunk this time,". We retired into the cabin to our bunk at the far corner. After giving Luke one last hug, I fell asleep staring up at the ceiling, wondering why I was so drawn to this new demigod. Could her father be the god who blessed me?
And that's the whole of Episode One done for the first season. Please let me know what you all thought. And send more ideas for this and the Atlantis book. Look forward to hearing from you. And for those of you who have never watched the Atlantis BBC series, I would recommend watching them so you can a gist of the main character Jason and the location. I intend to complete at least Episodes 2 and 3 over the holidays. See you soon in another book.
