Season 1, Saga 2: Chaos Emerald, Chapter 7: Cruise Blues
(Scene: The Egg Fort, underwater)
"Sire, the main engine has been repaired." General Rainbow said
"That means everything is in top-top shape now." Rainbow King said
(Joyous) "Splendid!" (Suddenly glum) "Now why does it always take you three slow-brains so long?" Dr. Eggman asked
"It is because Decoe is grumpy and loves to complain about everything." Bocoe said
"No argument here." General Rainbow said
"This is the third time I had to fix this hunk of junk!" (Rainbow King throws a can at him.) "Ow! Uh, I mean, it is a pleasure to work on such a fine machine!" Decoe said
"Now that's more like it." Dr. Eggman said
"You'd better watch what you say, bigmouth." Bocoe said
"You don't think the doctor will throw me on the scrap heap, do you?" Decoe asked
"You're lucky it wasn't Rainbow King." General Rainbow said
"Now let's get going! We've gotta catch up with that pesky Sonic!" Dr. Eggman said
"Aye-aye, sir!" Decoe, Bocoe and General Rainbow said
"Now fire up the main engine!" Rainbow King shouted
(The engine ignites.)
"Well, so far, so good... Now turn it up full blast!" Dr. Eggman shouted
"It is purring like a kitten, Doctor!" Decoe said
(Suddenly the engine's power goes out.)
"Huh?" General Rainbow asked
"What happened?" Rainbow King asked
(The hench-bots and the general turn to Eggman and Rainbow King.)
"We have a problem, Doctor. I am afraid the turbines are malfunctioning again." General Rainbow said
"We thought you said you fixed this contraption!" Rainbow King shouted
"We did! At least, I thought we did. Perhaps we could still repair it." Decoe said
"Do not bet on it." Bocoe said
"I've had it with this broken-down bucket. Perhaps it's time to retire this old heap and introduce our newest creation. Isn't that right, Rainbow King?" Dr. Eggman said
"I agree." Rainbow King said
(Decoe, Bocoe and General Rainbow cup their hands around where their ears would be.)
"Say what?!" Decoe, Bocoe and General Rainbow asked in shock
"All right. I can't hold this off any longer. Have we got a surprise for you…" Dr. Eggman said
(Scene Change: Cruise ship, day)
"We were all pretty worn out from searching for the Chaos Emeralds and battling Dr. Eggman. I had a long vacation from school coming up, so…" Chris narrated
(Flashback) "I know just what you need. Why not take Grandpa and your friends on a cruise? I'm not using the yacht right now. You can take in some sun and maybe take a look at the glaciers." Nelson said
(voiceover) "So that's just what we did—nothing but relaxation and fun in the sun." Chris narrated
"We'll get to the glaciers in about four days." Chris said
"Four days?!" Sonic asked in fright
"You mean we're only halfway there?" Tails asked
"These yachts sure do go slow, don't they?" Cream asked
"Let's hope it goes well." Zee said
(gags a bit.) "Speak for yourself, I think I'm starting to get seasick on boats." True said
(Sonic runs up to Chris.)
"Give me a break, will ya?! Come on, pal! I don't take to water! Can't you see I'm gettin' seasick as well?" Sonic asked
(Chris laughs)
"Please, I beg ya, I'm goin' crazy!" (Goes stir crazy and runs all over the ship in a frenzy) "Get me off of this thing!" Sonic shouted
(Night falls.)
(Scene Change: A cruise ship, night)
(voiceover) "Later that night…" Chris narrated
(True, Zee, Chris, Chuck, Tails, Amy, Cream, and Cheese are seated in a sitting room. Amy is holding Cheese. Chuck appears sick.)
"There, I feel much better now." Chuck said
"Did you take those seasick pills the doctor gave you?" Chris asked
"I sure did, my boy. It's a good thing I had extra for True to take." Chuck said
"They taste really bland though." True said
"You'll get use to it in time. And now that old Grandpa's feeling better, we're gonna have a lot more fun!" Chuck said
"Yeah!" the group said
"Chao!" Cheese said
"You bet! Hahahaha...!" Chuck said (falls asleep.)
"Grandpa sure is enjoying himself." Amy said
"Hey Chris, I know we're supposed to be relaxing and all, but what's there to do on this ship?" Tails asked
"There's lots of stuff to do. How about taking a swim?" Chris asked
(A frenzied Sonic races by.)
"Tails is just being rude! Don't pay any attention to him, Chris." Amy said
"That's right. Don't forget, Tails, Chris' father let us use this yacht out of the goodness of his heart. We should be grateful." Cream said
"Chao!" Cheese said
"They have a point." Zee said
"Yeah, you have to…" True didn't get to say (falls asleep.)
"Looks like it took a bit longer for them to affect her." Chris said
(Amy is suddenly upon Tails.)
"Well, Tails?!" Amy asked in anger
"Heheh, uh, okay, uh, I-I'm grateful." Tails said
"Tails will be okay. It's Sonic I'm worried about. I think he feels trapped. I guess I'd go crazy too if I were him." Chris said
(Sonic occasionally passes through the room in his frenzy.)
"Here he comes again!" Cream said
"I've seen Sonic go stir crazy before, but I've never seen anything as bad as this!" Tails said
"Okay. It's time for a meeting." (She steps out into the middle of the room.) "Halt!" (Sonic stops right in front of her.) "Let's have a little talk, Sonic." Amy said
"What about?" Sonic asked
"About you." Amy said
"About me?" Sonic asked
"And about the way you're acting. I've never seen such immature behavior. We're on this ship for ten more days and ten more nights. Get used to it!" (Sonic suddenly begins panicking as he clutches his head) "Be brave." (Sonic cups his hands together and looks up with tears in his eyes, still panicking) "And just remember" (Sonic kneels down sweating) "bravery is not the absence of fear, but the facing of it. Nobody wants to see their hero carrying on like a big crybaby. We want him to meet every challenge head on. Remember that, Sonic." Amy said
"Think Amy's really getting through to him, Chris?" Tails asked
"Not sure." Chris said
"Now go for it, hero, and keep your head held high!" Amy said
(Sonic starts to walk away. He takes a glance back, but suddenly faints from overwhelmed feelings.)
"He collapsed!" (pointing) "I was too overwhelming!" Amy said
"Uh, we've got to do something! I think he's sick!" Tails said
"Okay, I'll call Dad." Chris said
(Scene Change: The ship, morning)
(The next morning, a helicopter lands on the ship.)
"Well, I'm off! It's been a real blast, but I gotta split! See ya!" Sonic said
"Hey! He isn't sick! He's a fake!" Amy shouted
"It's okay. After all, why make him stay on the boat if he doesn't want to?" Chris asked
"I agree, you can't force someone into something they don't like." True said
"Enjoy your vacay, kids! Catch you on the flip side, huh?" Sonic asked
(He is about to board the helicopter, but is surprised to see several elderly people come out and surround him.)
"Wow, what have we here? Isn't he something?" the Elderly people asked
"What's going on?" Tails asked
(Mr. Tanaka appears.)
"Good morning. Nice day." Tanaka said
"Tanaka! What are you doing here? Who are all these people?" Chris asked
"These people are joining us from the Silver Star Retirement Home. It is Mr. Thorndyke's hope that you and your friends will learn from them. They will be your coaches, you see." Tanaka said
(The elderly people are all over Sonic while he is feeling uncomfortable)
"Coach us?" Zee asked
"Mr. Tanaka, what will they coach us on?" Amy asked
"On how to relax. You see, they have all worked hard for many years, and now the time has come for them to relax. They will teach you how to as well." Tanaka said
"No thanks, Mr. Tanaka. I just want the helicopter to take Sonic home." Chris said
(Tanaka's glasses flash.)
"He will remain here. Even a great warrior needs his rest. Constant battles not only exhaust the body, but also the mind. The warrior must relax and be rejuvenated, so that when next he goes to battle, he is mightier than before!" Tanaka said
(He punches the air. The helicopter's rotors spin.)
"Hey! Where are you going? What about me?!" Sonic asked in fright
(The helicopter takes off. Sonic, now apart from the others, falls on his knees and extends his hands in the air in despair.)
"No, wait! COME BACK!" Sonic yelled
(voiceover) "And so, from that afternoon on, our new friends taught us all how to relax." Chris narrated
(Zee and Tails are cloud gazing with a female elder identified as Julia.)
"Just look at that, you two. Isn't it wonderful? Sometimes life goes by so fast that we never take the time to appreciate the simple things, like a blue sky and fluffy white clouds." Julia said
(One of the clouds begins to resemble the X-Tornado, and Tails grows incredibly restless. Elsewhere, Cream and Cheese are talking with another female elder.)
"I understand you and your friends are from another planet. My, it's so fascinating." the female elder said
"Yeah. We've only been here for a little while, but we like it." Cream said
"Chao!" Cheese said
"Everyone's been so nice to us since we got here." Cream said
"I'm glad. How lovely. So, you come from another planet, do you?" the female elder asked
"Yes." Cream said
(voiceover) "And so the lady asked Cream the same question over and over. Sonic was so bored he tried to jump ship all the way to shore, but he missed... fifteen times." Chris narrated
(Meanwhile, Sonic takes a running jump off the ship. Eventually, he lands in the water quite some distance away.)
"Not bad. He went about five nautical miles on that one." a crew member said
"Mm. Little guy gets further every time." the Captain said
(Elsewhere…)
"That Sonic can't relax for one second!" (Depressed) "Oh, what's the use? I'll find somebody else to play shuffleboard with." Amy said
"Maybe I can play it with ya, I've always wanted to try it." True said
(A nearby male elder overhears them and chuckles.)
"Something tells me you've got a thing for that little Sonic fella." the male elder said
(Delighted, she leaps up onto the table.) "What makes you say that, mister?" Amy asked
(Chuckles) "I could tell just by looking at you." the male elder said
(Blushes) "Is it that easy to see?" Amy asked
"Why, sure. It's obvious. Then again, Sonic probably has that effect on all the girls." the male elder said
(Agitated) "What girls are you talking about?" Amy asked
(Scene Change: Beneath Eggman's destroyed base)
(Eggman, Rainbow King, General Rainbow, Decoe and Bocoe are sitting inside the newly-completed Egg Fort II. Eggman laughs.)
"It sure is a beauty, eh? Those dimwits thought they'd seen the end of me, but I've outsmarted them! I've got a shiny new base hidden where nobody can see!" Dr. Eggman said
"And it's quite the marvelous one!" Rainbow King said
"You have outdone yourself, Doctor! Very impressive!" Decoe said
"It is as big as the Rainbow Aircraft back home." General Rainbow
"I don't know what that is, but you can say that again. What a shocker! I had no idea there was another super-secret base hidden down here." Bocoe said
"Of course you had no idea! If you had, it wouldn't have been a secret! Hmph. It's required of all evil geniuses to be smart as well as sneaky." Dr. Eggman said
(Eggman laughs again.)
"Let's get started, Doctor. I cannot wait to see the look on Sonic's face when they see the powerful new Decoe Bocoe XL Super Ultra–" Decoe didn't get to say
"Just a minute!" Rainbow King shouted
"Huh?" Decoe asked
"Hold your horses, you dome-headed donkey! Who gave you permission to name anything around here?! I'm the boss! I'll do the naming!" Dr. Eggman shouted
"Say what?" General Rainbow asked
"You mean you've already named the three components?" Bocoe asked
"But of course! There's 'Decoe Bocoe Two, 'General Two', and best of all, the 'XL Super Ultra Eggman King Extreme'!" Dr. Eggman said
"I do not like those names!" Bocoe said
"Neither do I! Why do our sections get boring names while your section gets a big long fancy one with cool words like 'Super Ultra Extreme'?" Decoe asked
"What is the deal with that? We should be able to name our own sections!" General Rainbow said
(Eggman picks up a book and opens it.)
"Well, excuse us! We thought we were doing you a favor by naming them for you!" Rainbow King said
"Well, maybe you should have asked us first!" Decoe said
"Alright, alright! Don't get snippy! I've written some second and third choices here. What about 'Ace', 'Jack', 'King'?" Dr. Eggman asked
"Nope." Decoe said
"I don't even play cards." Bocoe said
"'Rock', 'Paper', 'Scissors'?" Dr. Eggman asked
"You can't be serious!" General Rainbow said
"Ehh... 'Eenie', 'Meenie', 'Miney'!" (Decoe starts to sweat) "'X', 'Y', 'Z'? Uh, how does 'Egg', 'Egger' and 'Eggiest' grab ya? I think that could work." Dr. Eggman said
(Scene Change: Cruise ship)
(voiceover) "As time went by, we learned more and more about relaxing and enjoying life from our new friends. Soon, everyone was having a good time. Everyone except Sonic, who still hadn't got used to the idea, so he started hatching an escape plan, and this is what happened…" Chris narrated
(Sonic grins slyly... Soon…)
"Why would Tails be worried about the X Tornado?" Zee asked
"You see, we've been on this boat a couple of days, right?" Sonic asked
(Nods) "Uh-huh." Tails said
"Well, Tails, did you ever think that just maybe, machines can get lonely? I bet the X Tornado's been awful lonesome since you went away." Sonic said
"Oh no! I never even thought of that! I feel so guilty! How could I have ever abandoned you like that? Poor little X Tornado!" Tails said
"Easy Tails, I'm sure the X Tornado is alright." Zee said
"I got him!" Sonic said
(Next…)
"Do you really mean that, Sonic?" Amy asked
"Well, sure I mean it, Amy. I think you're just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. The way you swing that little hammer of yours around, my heart beats a million times a minute. I know, you could never care for somebody like me. I guess it's just the way it has to be... Perhaps you could go on if you would only swing that hammer once more." Sonic said
"You want it, you got it!" Amy shouted
(She swings her hammer wildly. Soon, Sonic is down on the ground in front of True, Chris and Chuck.)
"Aah! Amy's gone berserk!" Amy shouted
"Uh-huh. This boat's gonna drive everyone bananas sooner or later…" Sonic said
"What do you think, Grandpa? Maybe we should ask the captain if we should turn the ship around." Chris said
(Sonic's ears perk up.)
"I don't know. I have a feeling something fishy's going on…" Chuck said
(Amy, Cream and Cheese enter the room.)
"Did he really truly say that, Amy?" Cream asked
"It's the truth, Cream! He said his little heart beat faster every time I swung my hammer. He's so dreamy." Amy said
"Wow, that's so sweet!" Cream said
"Chao!" Cheese said
(True, Chris and Chuck sweat drops.)
"I have a feeling that someday soon, Sonic's gonna ask me to be his girl…" Amy said
"Really?" Cream asked
"Chao chao!" Cheese said
(Sonic tries to crawl away.)
(Yelling) "Soniiic!" Chris yelled
(Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Foyer)
(Bokkun throws open the doors with a metallic condor with the same metal as General Rainbow next to him, but no one is around.)
"Hey! Long time no see! Did you miss me? No big important message this time. Just dropping by to say hi! I even brought a new friend with me! The General calls it his Rainbow Condor! ... Hey, you guys! Where is everybody? ... Hello? Anybody? Hello?" (Miserably) "Guess there's... nobody... home…" Bokkun said
(Ella appears.)
"Well, look who we have here. Our little flying robot friend. You've come to stir trouble today? Well, too bad for you, 'cause nobody here now, so you can just scram, you hear me?" Ella asked
(Ella laughs, and Bokkun begins to cry. He buries his head in Ella's apron.)
"What's the matter now?" Ella asked
"I'm so lonesome! Nobody's home! I just wanted somebody to play with!" Bokkun said
(Ella puts down her bags and comforts Bokkun.)
"It's all right. There there now, don't cry, sweetheart." Ella said
"I'm so lonely…" Bokkun said
"Don't be lonely. Ella's here now. You stay here; I'll make you a nice lunch, okay? Don't you worry now." Ella said
"Ella...? I'm sorry... for all those times I was bad... Will you forgive me?" Bokkun asked
"Of course." Ella said
"This is for you." Bokkun said
"For me?" Ella asked
(An explosion can be heard, and Bokkun and the Rainbow Condor fly away laughing.)
(Scene Change: Cruise ship.)
(True, Zee, Chris and Tails are on the deck, enjoying the scenery.)
"Hey, look, Tails." Chris said
"An iceberg! We're near the glaciers!" Tails said
"They're almost like the Ice Stars from the Rainbow Kingdom." True said
(Chuck arrives and places some coats around True, Zee and Chris' shoulders.)
"Put these on. It's a bit chilly out here." Chuck said
"Hey, thanks, Grandpa." Chris said
"Guess Amy's still pretty upset with Sonic, huh." True said
"Yes. Well, it wasn't very nice of him to lie to her like that." Chuck said
"But Amy can't stay mad forever." Tails said
(Meanwhile, Sonic is cowering on top of the mast.)
"Sonic, come on. You can't stay up there all day. Don't you want to see all the wonderful things I can do with this hammer? It's pretty amazing, but you've gotta see it up real close, got it?" Amy asked
"Ah, no thanks! I'll just stay up here, catch some rays. Maybe another time." Sonic said
(Angrily) "All right, that's it! You come down off that pole this instant! Got it?!" Amy asked in anger
(She repeatedly hammers the mast, which causes Cream who was nearby to panic, and Sonic who's offscreen to scream every time Amy hits the mast.)
"Oh, I don't like it when Amy gets mad!" Cream said
"I get the feeling we ought to stay out of this." Chuck said
Chris: I agree!" Zee said
(A whale surfaces and sprays water from its blowhole.)
"Look at that!" Chris said
"Wow!" Chuck said
"It's a whale!" Tails said
"Not just whales, look!" True said (points down below the cruise ship for the others to see smaller whales that are round and are splashing close to the cruise ship.)
"Sea Blubbs!" Zee said
"Astounding, I've never seen anything like them!" Chuck said
"That's because they only live in cold water." True said
"Wow, it must be nice to see them again." Chris said
(Something else surfaces as well.)
"Another one!" Tails said
"Wow, look how big it is!" Chris said
(But it isn't a whale.)
"That's not a whale." Chuck said
"Or a Sea Blubb." Zee said
"I guess not." Chris said
"If not, what is it?" Tails asked
"I'm guessing it's not good." True said
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II.)
"Thought you could take a pleasure cruise without me, eh? Well, think again!" Dr. Eggman shouted (Growls and shouts)
"We have you now!" Rainbow King shouted
"Let's go get them!" Decoe shouted
"We can beat that overgrown tugboat any day!" Bocoe shouted
"It is smaller than the Rainbow Battleship of the Rainbow Kingdom!" General Rainbow shouted
(Scene Change: Cruise Ship.)
(Amy, having finally gotten Sonic down from the mast, is now smugly sitting on him.)
"Heheh... I was wondering how long it would take for you bozos to show up. You three boys starting to rust yet?" Sonic asked
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II.)
"We are incapable of corrosion." Bocoe said
"You, on the other hand, are a rotten little hedgehog!" Decoe shouted
"You should know better!" General Rainbow shouted
"Stop all this yammering at once! You two tin-heads are forgetting who's in charge here!" (To Sonic) "I hope you've enjoyed yourself, Sonic, because your happy little holiday's about to end!" Dr. Eggman shouted
"Oh yeah, I'd say the fun's about to start!" Sonic shouted
"Don't be so sure, warthog!" Rainbow King shouted
(Scene Change: Cruise Ship)
"Captain. We've reached the glaciers, sir." a crew member said
"Wonderful! Let's stop here so our passengers can get a good look." the Captain said
(The ship stops.)
"Hey, why did you stop the ship?" Zee asked
"What's going on here?" Chuck asked
"It's the glacier, Mr. Thorndyke! Sure is a beauty, isn't it, sir? We can stay here as long as you like!" the Captain said
(True, Zee, Chuck, Chris, and Tails fall over in exasperation.)
"Are you crazy?! This is no time to look at the glacier!" Chris shouted
(Sonic leaps off the ship and lands on the iceberg.)
"Okay! If you want a fight, you got a fight! Bring it on, Egghead!" Sonic shouted
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II.)
"All in good time, my friend. First let's mix things up a bit, shall we? Perhaps you seafaring simpletons would like to see what my new Egg Fort II can do. Get ready to be blown away! All right, Egg Fort II, combine! One!" Dr. Eggman shouted
"Two!" Rainbow King shouted
"Three!" General Rainbow shouted
(The three sections combine.)
"Egg Fort II complete!" Decoe and Bocoe shouted
(Laughs) "Impressive, eh?" (A phone rings. Eggman answers it.) "Hello? No, I'm not going to change names!" (He answers a second phone.) "How dare you say my Egg Fort II isn't all that!" (He hangs up both phones and grumbles.) "I'm getting an unlisted number!" Dr. Eggman said
(Scene Change: Outside)
(Sonic is running on the iceberg.)
"Come on! Try and catch me! What are you waitin' for?" Sonic asked
"Oh, Sonic..." Dr. Eggman started
"Yeah, what?" Sonic asked
"You're going nowhere fast!" Dr. Eggman said
(Indeed, Sonic is not going anywhere. He stops.)
"Oh no!" Sonic shouted
(Suddenly the Egg Fort II blasts the iceberg, sending Sonic into the air.)
"Oh, watch out!" Chris shouted
(Eggman blasts Sonic from iceberg to iceberg.)
"Hahaha! This much fun should be illegal!" Dr. Eggman said
"Stay focused!" Tails shouted
"Be careful!" True shouted
"Don't worry! We'll get help!" Amy shouted
(Suddenly, Julia takes the captain's intercom.)
"Oh, poor little thing. You're having a tough time. I may be an old-timer, but I just might be able to help you out. Now Sonic, I want you to breathe deeply and relaaax. Focus on your goal. Relax, stay in the moment, and feel the ice with your feet." Julia said
(Sonic lands smoothly on one of the icebergs.)
"Not bad. Now if I could only keep my feet from slipping, this ought to be a piece of cake!" Sonic said
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II.)
"Something's the matter. Why isn't he frightened?" Decoe asked
"I don't like it. A moment ago, we had him on the run." Bocoe said
"He certainly is cool all of a sudden, isn't he?" General Rainbow asked
"Enough of this! Let's put the freeze on the hedgehog!" Rainbow King said
"Good idea." Dr. Eggman said
(Scene Change: Outside)
(Eggman aims the Egg Fort II's guns at the cruise ship.)
"Captaaaiiin!" a crew member yelled
(Suddenly a frantic Bokkun and Rainbow Condor arrives and clings to the Egg Fort II's windshield.)
"What are you doing here?!" Dr. Eggman asked in anger
"He looks upset." Decoe said
"Even my Condor is upset, that's never happened before." General Rainbow said
"Please let us in!" Bokkun shouted
"Why should we let you in?" Bocoe asked
(Suddenly, the X-Tornado appears)
"It's the X Tornado!" True said
"But who's flying it?" Zee asked
(It is revealed that Ella is piloting the X-Tornado.)
"I'll get you, you brat!" Ella shouted
"It's Ella!" Chris said
"But how?" Amy asked
"How'd she learn to fly the X-Tornado?" Tails asked
"Ella can do anything she puts her mind to... except windows." Chuck said
(Chris groans)
"Aah! Help us!" Bokkun shouted
"What are you bawling about, Bokkun?" Rainbow King asked
"Now we change to X Cyclone! Transform!" (The X-Tornado converts into the X Cyclone, then prepares to kick the Egg Fort II.) "You see who's boss now!! Cyclone Kick!" Ella shouted
(Bokkun and the Rainbow Condor scramble to get away and the others panic. The X-Cyclone succeeds in kicking the Egg Fort II into the distance. It disappears with a twinkle. Later, everyone is seen relaxing.)
(Scene Changing: Cruise Ship)
"So often we rush through our lives from day to day, not seeing what is really important. Just think of it - the smell of the ocean, the rustling of leaves, moments with family and friends. Sometimes just to sit and fell the warmth of the sun…" Julia said
(Off-screen) "Sonic!" Tails said
(Sonic looks up to see Tails in the X Tornado.)
"The X Tornado's all set to go! You still want to go back to town?" Tails asked
"Uh…" (Winks) "What's the rush? Come on down here." Sonic said
"Huh?" Tails asked
"I changed my mind. I think I'll take it easy, just enjoy myself for a while." Sonic said
"I think you've made the right decision, Sonic. Remember, there's always enough time to while away the hours and just be happy. Now let's all relax and enjoy ourselves!" Julia said
