Season 1, Saga 2: Chaos Emerald, Chapter 12: A Dastardly Deed
(Scene: Thorndyke Mansion - Outside)
(The X-Tornado is ready to take off. The X-Tornado's wings fold into position.) "Stand by for takeoff!" (The palm trees fold back.) "X-Tornado, let's go!" (The X-Tornado taxis down the runway.) "Lifting off." (The X-Tornado takes off with Amy, Chris, Danny, and Sonic aboard.) "Hold on tight, Sonic. It's time to deploy our stabilizing wings." Tails said (The other wings fold as the X-Tornado flies out of sight with True following behind on Cumulo.)
"Do you think they'll be able to find that seventh Emerald, Mr. Thorndyke?" Frances asked
"It's possible, but they're not the only ones who'll be looking for it." Chuck said
"Let's hope they find it first." Zee said
(Scene: Thorndyke Mansion - Kitchen)
"Don't you worry, Creamy. They're going to find that Emerald before you know it." Ella said
(Cream smiles, closes her eyes, and laughs.)
"Chao" Cheese said
(Scene Change: The X-Tornado)
"Any signs of the Emerald yet, Tails?" Amy asked
"Nope." Tails said
"Same on my end." True said
"Wow, this is so great!" Danny said
(But Chris has a sad expression, and he does not answer. Sonic, who is standing on the wing, is looking around.)
"Hey, c'mon. Aren't you gonna help look?" Danny asked
"Uh, yeah, sure." Chris said
(As Danny pulls out a pair of binoculars and looks through them, Chris looks down sadly, knowing that may very well be the last day he ever sees Sonic.)
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II)
(The Egg Fort II is parked in a wooded area behind a mountain. Eggman is watching Sonic's exploits and laughing.)
"It looks like Dr. Eggman is in a very good mood." Decoe said
"Yes. He seems especially confident, doesn't he?" Bocoe asked
(Laughs) "Something tells me today can be a very lucky day. In fact, those Chaos Emeralds are as good as mine if I play my cards right." Dr. Eggman said
(Bocoe presents the robot cards to Eggman.)
"Your cards." Bocoe said
"No need. We've already chosen my weapon." Rainbow King said
"You mean... a new weapon, sire?" General Rainbow asked
"What is it?" Bocoe asked
"The suspense is killing me!" Decoe said
(The Egg Fort II's exit hatch opens revealing a small robot named E-77 Lucky. Eggman, Bocoe, and Decoe watch as Lucky starts walking down the ramp, but loses its balance and falls on its face.)
"Oh!" Decoe, Bocoe and General Rainbow said
"You have got to be kidding, Doctor!" Decoe said
"That is the strangest-looking robot I have ever seen." Bocoe said
"Sure! He may look like a loser, but Lucky is exactly the charm we need to capture that final Chaos Emerald!" Dr. Eggman said
"Ah!" Decoe, Bocoe and General Rainbow said
"That's right. You see, our plucky, little pal here possesses that one elusive quality that will practically make that Emerald drop into our waiting hands. So guess." Dr. Eggman said
"What is it?" Decoe and Bocoe asked
"It's luck!" Rainbow King said
"Luck?" General Rainbow asked
"Just wait. With Lucky on our side, we'll have that Emerald in no time." (He looks back at the screen, which shows Lucky walking through the forest.) "Good luck, Lucky! And bring back the prize." Dr. Eggman said
(Scene Change: Forest)
(Grizelda and Knuckles are walking through the forest, as Knuckles is holding the Chaos Emerald they found in Oriental City.)
"This planet isn't so bad, I suppose, but I'd do anything to get back home. What did that voice say?" Knuckles asked
(Flashback) "The servers are the seven chaos." the voice said
(Grizelda and Knuckles stop.)
"We can only get back home if we find all seven Chaos Emeralds." Knuckles said
"Well... Sonic and those guys have four, Eggman's got one, and then there's this one we got from Hawk. That makes six in all. But even if we find the last one, we'd still have to convince Eggman to give up his." Grizelda said
"But Sonic and Eggman don't seem to see eye-to-eye, we'll never get back home unless we can get them to work together." (He hears a strange beeping noise from nearby.) "What's that?" Knuckles asked
(They part the bushes and see Lucky on its back, struggling to get up. Grizelda and Knuckles run over and help it up.)
"You must be Eggman's robot." Knuckles said
(Lucky nods.)
"Yeah? What are you doing around here?" Grizelda asked
(It points towards the Egg Fort II, which the two now see. Knuckles holds up their Emerald.)
"Maybe the Emerald led us here somehow." Knuckles said
(Scene Change: Chris' school, day)
(The students are doing their work as Mr. Stewart writes on the chalkboard. Chris does not look engaged.)
"Lunch time, children." Mr. Stewart said
"All right! I'm starving!" the students said
"Chris, you wanna eat lunch with us?" Frances asked
(Chris does not answer.)
"Yo, wake up!" Danny said
"Uh, I'm not too hungry right now, guys." Chris said
(Winks) "'Kay. We'll catch ya later, then." Frances said
"Yeah, o-okay." Chris said
(Danny and Frances leave. Mr. Stewart notices Chris' behavior and walks over to him.)
"You know, I think you and I should visit the counseling office." Mr. Stewart said
"Uh, no thanks, uhh…" Chris started
"Come on, Chris. Let's go." Mr. Stewart said
"Uh…" Chris muttered (He reluctantly gets up and follows Mr. Stewart to the counseling room.)
(Scene Change: Chris' school - Counseling room)
(Chris is lying on a couch, while Mr. Stewart sits on a chair nearby.)
"Are you ready Chris?" Mr. Stewart asked
"Yeah…" Chris said
"Now... tell me, Chris. What's bothering you?" Mr. Stewart asked
"I don't know what's wrong with me. Lately I'm feeling really confused." Chris said
"Like you're... torn?" Mr. Stewart asked
"Yeah." Chris said
"I think I understand why. Part of you wants to help Sonic and his friends return home, but another part of you doesn't want to lose your new friends." Mr. Stewart said
"Huh?" Chris asked
"It's quite obvious that this conflict is creating a war deep within you, Chris." Mr. Stewart said
(Chris immediately sits up and kneels on the bed.)
"You're right! That's just how I feel, Mr. Stewart!" Chris said
"It's natural, but you must face the fact that one day your friends are going to return home." Mr. Stewart said
"Hm." Chris said
"It's difficult, but you have to think about what's best for them." Mr. Stewart said
"I... know…" Chris stuttered
(Mr. Stewart lays a hand on Chris' shoulder.)
"Everything is going to be okay, I promise you." (He steps outside the counselling room to take a call on his wrist communicator. On radio) "Yes?" Mr. Stewart asked
(Over radio) "Just checking in, Chalkboard Charlie. Any problems?" the Officer asked
(On radio) "No, sir... Nothing I can't handle." Mr. Stewart said
(Scene Change: The White House)
"So what you're saying, Rouge, is that the Chaos Control explosion that sent Eggman here was caused when the seven Chaos Emeralds came together." the President said
"Riiight." Rouge said
"I thought there were only two when we first went to Eggman's base before it was destroyed." Bartleby said (gets bonked on the head by Rouge)
"Yes, I see. So if we could create our own Chaos Control, then we just might solve our Eggman problem." the President said
"I'm afraid it's not that simple." Topaz said (All eyes turn to her.)
"Really? Why not?" the President asked
"Mr. President, I think that we need to first consider the effects such an action could have on the safety of the planet." Topaz said
"Like what?" the President's Aide asked
"Quiet. Go on, Topaz." the President said
"Moving forward without careful consideration could create a worldwide disaster. I think it's wise to do everything we can to keep that from happening, sir." Topaz said
"I see. Perhaps until we're sure of what we're getting into, we need to keep those Emeralds apart." the President said
"I believe so, sir." Topaz said
"The question is, how do we manage to do that?" the President asked
(Rouge smirks.)
(Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Chuck's Lab)
(Chris enters the lab, where he sees Ella cleaning the room.)
"Hi, Ella." Chris said
"Ahh, hi, Chris. Did you have a good day?" Ella asked
"Yeah. Where is everyone?" Chris asked
"They're out looking for the Chaos Emerald again, like usual. And Grandpa's gone somewhere looking for new parts for his crazy machines. Thank goodness I can finally clean up this mess now." Ella said
(As Ella leaves, Chris looks around the now-empty room.)
"The place seems empty... This is how it was before they all got here, and when it's gonna be when they go…" Chris said
(Memories of True, Sonic and friends flash before his eyes, then fade. Chris heads down the stairs.)
(Off-screen) "Hello." Knuckles said
(Chris sees Grizelda, Knuckles and Lucky standing there.)
"Hey, Knuckles, Grizelda. What's going on?" Chris asked
"Plenty." Grizelda said
"Where'd you get that robot?" Chris asked
"Well, it's not exactly ours. I think he belongs to Eggman. We found him just roaming around the forest. Seems pretty harmless, though. ... Is Sonic around? We've got to talk to him about something." Knuckles said
"Sorry, he's out looking for the last Emerald." Chris said
"Then give him this message. We have only one way to get back home. We've got to call a truce with Dr. Eggman." Knuckles said
(Chris is taken aback.)
"A truce?! That'll never happen!" Chris said
"It has to." Grizelda said
"But how? They're sworn enemies!" Chris said
"The only way any of us will get back home is to team up with Eggman. I know it might sound crazy, and it may even be impossible, but I have to convince Sonic that this the only chance we've got. We've already been away from home for way too long now, and I'm not about to let anything stand in our way of getting back there." Knuckles said
(To himself) "Knuckles is right. I'm being selfish. I've got to do whatever I can to help them." (Chris looks up with new determination.) "All right, Knuckles. I'll give him your message." Chris said
"Meanwhile, I'll pay a visit to our friend Eggman." Grizelda said
"How will you know where to find him?" Chris said
"Heh. I think we spotted his ship over at Forest Hill. Bye." Knuckles said
(Grizelda and Knuckles start to leave, but Chris stops them.)
"Knuckles!" Chris said
(Grizelda and Knuckles look back.)
"Mind if I come along?" Chris asked
"Why not?" Knuckles asked
(Chris ducks under the garage door as he, Grizelda, Knuckles and Lucky leave the garage.)
(Scene Change: Train Station)
"The express train will get us to Forest Hill in no time at all." Chris said
"Final boarding call, Forest Hill Express, Track 29." the intercom said
(They rush to the train and board it just in time. Soon they are on their way to Forest Hill. Lucky tries to follow, but falls over as it tries to climb the stairs.)
(Scene Change: Forest Hill)
"Don't worry, Chris. Just stay calm and I'll do all the talking." (He notices that Lucky isn't with them.) "Hey, the robot... Well... Easy come, easy go." Knuckles said
"You think the robot is okay?" Grizelda asked
"I'm just glad you held back when we came across it." Knuckles said
"What was that!?" Grizelda asked in anger
"Nothing!" Knuckles said in fright
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II)
(Decoe sees Knuckles and Chris approaching on the monitor.)
"Whoa! Dr. Eggman, enemy approaching!" Decoe said
"Prepare to launch attack!" Bocoe said
(Bocoe is about to press a button, but Rainbow King stops him with his scepter.)
"Wait!" Rainbow King said
"But Rainbow King…" Bocoe said
"Look there." Dr. Eggman said
(They see that Chris is holding a white flag on a stick - they surrender. Soon Grizelda, Chris and Knuckles are aboard the craft, having finished telling the story to Eggman and Rainbow King.)
"Think of it this way. If we team up, we get the Emeralds together and Chaos Control sends us straight home. But if we keep fighting like this, we'll all be stuck here for good, and that's bad." Knuckles said
(Grizelda, Knuckles and Chris glance at each other.)
"Yes. Yes, yes. That's right. I've vener thought of it that way. Eh, how could I have been such a brainless greedy old fool?" (He shakes Knuckles' hand.) "Knuckles, I don't know how to thank you!" Dr. Eggman said
"The pleasure is all mine, Dr. Eggman." Knuckles said
(Chris breathes a sigh of relief.)
"However, we do have one condition." Rainbow King said
"What's that?" Grizelda asked
"That you allow us to hold onto your Chaos Emerald." Rainbow King said
"You hold it?" Chris asked
"Come now, don't you trust us? Nothing is more important between allies than trust. If you're asking us to trust you, the least you can do is trust us." Dr. Eggman said
(Knuckles crosses his arms.)
"What do you think?" Grizelda asked
"You can hold it." Knuckles said
(Eggman laughs and again shakes Knuckles' hand.)
"Thanks, Knuckles. We make a great team." Dr. Eggman said
(To himself) "Well, he did it. I guess it was the right thing, but I don't think Sonic's gonna like it…" Chris thought
(Eggman, Rainbow King, General Rainbow Decoe and Bocoe watch Grizelda, Chris and Knuckles leave.)
"Well, well, well... Who would have thought our little friend Knuckles was such an honest fellow? As a matter of fact, I'd say he's honest to a fault!" Dr. Eggman said
"What do you mean?" General Rainbow asked
"I mean our naïve little knucklehead is playing right into our hands. Yes…" Dr. Eggman said (Laughs)
(Scene Change: Dumpster)
(A sad Lucky is sitting alone on top of a dumpster. A black cat startles him so that he falls backward ito the dumpster. A garbage truck approaches. The truck arrives, and Jerome Wise climbs out to signal to it.)
"Okay, okay. A little bit more." Jerome said
(The truck inserts its prongs into the dumpster's slots. The contents of the dumpster, including Lucky, are dumped into the truck. After Jerome gets back in, the truck drives away.)
(Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Chuck's lab, night)
(The Next Show is playing.)
"Okay, kids, it's that time again! Everybody dance! Dance! Dance! Dance!" Next said
(Cream and Cheese are dancing along with Next. Chuck, Tails, Amy, and Sonic are also present. Just then Chris arrives.)
"Hey, I'm home." Chris said
"Chris, it's late. Where have you been all this time?" Chuck asked
"Sorry, I-I was over at Danny's house studying. Oh, by the way, did you guys find any Chaos Emeralds today?" Chris asked
"We didn't find anything, Chris." Tails said
"Ahh... That's good…" (he catches himself) "I-I mean that's bad." Chris said
(Tails is confused at what Chris meant. Just then Chris notices Cream and Cheese crying.)
"Guys, what's wrong?" Chris asked
"Our favorite program won't be on next week!" Cream said
"Chao-chao-chao!" Cheese said
(Relieved) "Ah. Is that all?" Chris asked
(He notices that three of the Chaos Emeralds are right there.)
"We'll find that last Emerald, won't we?" Zee asked
"You bet we will, Tails." Chuck said
"Well, I think I'll go for a run." Sonic said (He leaps off his hammock and runs out of the room.)
"Sonic, wait up!" Chris shouted (He runs after Sonic. Everyone is confused at Chris' strange behavior.)
"That was strange. Wonder what's wrong?" True asked
(Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Outside)
"So what's up?" Sonic asked
"Well... Sonic... I-I guess you get pretty homesick being on a different planet and all." Chris said
"Eh... I don't think about it too much. Why?" Sonic asked
(Chris fumbles for words.)
"Huh? Oh, uh, M-My teacher Mr. Stewart says hi." Chris said
"That's nice." Sonic said (He runs off.)
"I bet Sonic's just as homesick as the rest of them. He's just afraid to admit it. Poor guy…" Chris said
(Scene Change: Train station, night)
(Chris reunites with Grizelda and Knuckles at the train station.)
"Did you get 'em?" Grizelda asked
(Nods) "Mhm. I didn't tell anybody I took 'em though." Chris said
"It's not like we're doing anything wrong. Once they find out what we did, they'll probably be grateful. Come on." Knuckles said
(They board the train.)
(Scene Change: Landfill)
(Lucky unburies itself from the trash and studies its surroundings.)
(Scene Change: Forest Hill)
(G.U.N. agents led by Topaz are on the scene.)
"The signal is coming from somewhere around here. Just be on your guard, boys." Topaz said
(As the other agents move out, Bartleby and Rouge poke their heads out of a tree.)
"Why are we hanging around?" Bartleby asked
"Just keep watch. We're going to find that Emerald." Topaz said
"Yeah, okay. Oh, by the way, I know where it is." Rouge said (She leads Topaz to a cliff overlooking the Egg Fort II.)
"Wow." (She radios headquarters. On radio) "Chief, I think we've found it." Topaz said
(Scene Change: The White House)
(The Director of Central Intelligence opens the door to the Oval Office.)
"Mr. President. Good news, sir. We've found Eggman's base." the Director of Central Intelligence said
"Let's make the call." the President said
"Right." (The aide walks over to a phone and picks it up.) "Report to Area 99 to dispatch the Beetle immediately." the President's Aide said
(Scene Change: Forest Hill)
(Rouge is hovering in midair in a relaxed position with Bartleby on a branch next to her.)
"You two ready?" Topaz asked
"Ready." Bartleby said
(She notices something in the distance.) "Oh... Hold on…" Rouge said
(That "something", or rather, "somethings" is Grizelda, Chris and Knuckles returning to the Egg Fort II with the Chaos Emeralds.)
"Why are those two here?" Topaz asked
(The three glance at each other.)
(Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Chuck's lab)
(Sonic races back into the lab.)
"Hey, I-- huh?" (He notices that True, Zee, Chuck, Amy, Cream and Cheese are looking at where the Emeralds used to be.) "Oh, what's up?" Sonic asked
"Chris took the Chaos Emeralds…" Cream said
"Chao chao chao…" Cheese said
"But why?" Sonic asked
(Chuck reads aloud a note that Chris had left.)
"He left us a letter explaining why. 'I'm taking the Emeralds so that you can all get back home very soon.' I can't understand why in the world he would do something so foolhardy." Chuck said
"Why would he even do that?" True asked
"Whatever the reason he did it, we'd better go look for him." Zee said
(Sonic looks at a picture of Chris.)
(Flashback) "Well... Sonic... I-I guess you get pretty homesick being on a different planet and all." Chris said
(Tails appears in the doorway.)
"Chris took the Chaos Emeralds from inside the X-Tornado too! We can only fly it in normal mode now!" Tails said
(Sonic picks True up onto his back and runs right past Tails.)
"Where'd he go?" Amy asked
(Scene Change: Landfill)
(Lucky is walking along the piles of trash when it stumbles over a can and falls to the bottom of the pile. It lands on a box, which opens, revealing the seventh Chaos Emerald.)
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II)
(Grizelda, Knuckles and Chris arrive. Eggman's chair descends from above and slides on a track to a table between him and the others with Rainbow King following behind.)
"Ah, my new friends. Welcome." Dr. Eggman said
"We brought them." Grizelda said
(Chris places his backpack on the table.)
"Let us see." Rainbow King said
(Chris unzips the backpack, revealing four Chaos Emeralds.)
"Oh, my. Aren't they lovely! And I have my Chaos Emerald right here." (He places a small box on the table.) "I could open the box and show it to you, but it's not safe to expose it to the others." Dr. Eggman said
"Not yet." Knuckles said
(Scene Change: Train station)
(Sonic shows a picture of Chris to an officer.)
"Yeah, I saw. Let's see... I think he got on the 4:00 train to Forest Hill." the Officer said
"To Forest Hill?" Sonic asked
"Why would he go there?" True asked
(Scene Change: The Egg Fort II)
(Eggman holds the box and Chris' backpack containing the Chaos Emeralds.)
"We'll hold onto the Emeralds and put them in a safe place." Dr. Eggman said
(Chris opens his mouth to protest.)
"Okay, Doc." Knuckles said
(Just then Decoe appears on the video screen.)
"Excuse me, Doctor? There is an urgent call from Lucky." Decoe said
(The screen switches to Lucky, who communicates to Eggman by beeping.)
"Whaaat?! You discovered the last Chaos Emerald in a pile of garbage?! Well done! Stay where you are, I'll come to you!" Dr. Eggman shouted
(Grizelda, Chris and Knuckles exchange thumbs-ups.)
"Dr. Eggman, did he really find it?" Grizelda asked
"Of course he did! Building a robot that brings good luck was my most brilliant stroke of genius!" Dr. Eggman said
"Does this mean we are out of a job?" Bocoe asked
(Shakes head) "No such luck." Decoe said
(bonks Decoe on the head.) "Don't jinx it!" General Rainbow said
"Well, we have them all, don't we!" Rainbow King said
"That's great!" Chris said
"Yeah, now I can finally go home!" Knuckles said
"We all can!" Grizelda said
"Haah... Oh-kaay." Dr. Eggman said
"Hahahaha!" General Rainbow said (He presses a button, and both Grizelda and Knuckles fall through a trapdoor.)
"Aah! What do you think you're doing, Eggman?" Chris asked
(Eggman belts out a laugh, then stands up close to Chris.)
"Wise up. You didn't really believe that I was homesick like your loser friends, did you? The only thing I care about is establishing the Eggman Empire. I can do that on my planet, or yours. It makes no difference to me." Dr. Eggman said
"Then you... lied to us, didn't you?!" Chris asked in shock (tries to stand up only to be weakened by an odd power enveloping him.)
"What's this?" Dr. Eggman asked
"A little something I've been learning." (gets Eggman to look at him only to become shocked from seeing his left hand now like a hand of a knight, but bigger then General Rainbow's hand.) "This power I've been building up has been slowly rising after my first defeat with True. And with it, I will crush anyone that gets in my way." Rainbow King said
"Is that so? Wait until Sonic sees this. Heheheh... Ready the Egg Fort II for takeoff!" Dr. Eggman shouted
"Aye-aye!" Decoe, Bocoe and General Rainbow shouted
(Scene Change: Forest Hill)
(The Egg Fort II's engines roar to life, then the craft begins to lift off the ground. Bartleby, Rouge and Topaz are buffeted by the winds the craft generates.)
"He's leaving." Rouge said
"This is bad!" Bartleby said
(On radio) "HQ, come in! Emergency." Topaz said
(A secret hatch on the craft opens and Grizelda and Knuckles fall out.)
"Eggman!" Knuckles shouted
(True and Sonic arrive.)
"Where's Chris?" Sonic asked
"Is he okay?" True asked
"Up there. Eggman has him in his ship along with all the Chaos Emeralds." Knuckles said
(The Egg Fort II takes off. Sonic pursues the Egg Fort II.)
"Good luck, you two!" Grizelda shouted
"Will True and Sonic stop Eggman and Rainbow King in time to save their friends? Find out, next time!" the Narrator said
