My eyes continued locking on the stranger, my dad also froze, not daring to move hoping he or she wouldn't hurt us. My eyes examined the bipedal dog more and I realized something, the bipedal dog kinda looked like a child? A child that looked the same age as bingo back at the house. My eyes lowered as I saw this fact to be true, I felt a wave of sympathy in my soul as I started to lower my guard. The silence was finally broken by the dog speaking quietly. "Don't hurt me," the dog said while trying to escape the tent but with no luck due to the zipper being jammed.
The child then gave up turning around to face us with their voice sounding out of breath.
I made the first move slowly walking inch by inch closer to the bipedal kid dog trying not to freak it out. I moved closer to the point where we were face to face, the dog then covered its eyes whimpering like a puppy. I Looked at the dog with a smile petting its head and sitting beside it the little pup. "It's ok little one where not here to hurt you," I said with a friendly voice. The pup then puts its hands down, you're not?" the pup said, still terrified of seeing us. "Of course, why would I hurt you?" I said with a friendly voice again.
The dog then stayed quiet not knowing what to say to me. I could not blame the puppy since I'd be terrified if I was in this situation and I saw something that could talk like me but didn't even look like something you see in this world before. I thought about it for a second before heading out my hand, "here, put my hand on yours so you know I won't hurt you," I said sympathetically. The dog looked unsure if it wanted to, I "just rubbed its back. You can take your time, no rush," I giggled. The child then raised its paw and put on mine, in response I polled the pup in an embrace.
I saw dad looking at me with an impressed look, I closed my eyes, held him in my shoulder, and smiled but the best part was his tail, it was wagging and I could feel it hitting my leg. In my mind I found this super adorable and cute, we both separated and the dog looked at me telling me something. "Please don't tell him I'm here," the dog whispers with a tear in his eye. I couldn't notice anything but his tearing his eyes. I looked at the dog before asking him. "What's wrong and who's coming to find you"?
Dog just bursts into tears before blurring out.
"The police told me that my parents died in a car crash and I ran away. Now they're trying to search for me." At that exact moment my heart froze in despair. Just this poor little child has gone through so much in one moment. No child's age which I presumed him to be like eight or seven should never go through this or anyone should never go experience this in fact.
His ears began to fall back all the way behind his head to the point where it's touching the back of his head. He sobbed and cried with his arms laying on his head. "Why don't you want to go to the police?" I said with a gentle voice. He looked at me for a few seconds before going back to his position and telling "me the police said they're going to take me to an orphanage mom always told me stories about going to orphanage for kids who had no parents and that scared me and now it came true," he squealed and cried out louder. The more and more this pup told me the more Disturbed I felt, this dog has been through so much and it only been here for 5 minutes and I'm already starting to feel sorrow. At this point there is nothing I could reply with due to his situation overwhelming me and causing me to begin to tear up as well. But I knew I had to do something and not just let this child sit here and sorrow all alone.
"Do you want to come with us," I said to him. He looked at me in disbelief almost as if he was in shock unexpecting the answer.
And also my dad also looked at me with "shock" "realizing what I said.
"Honey look I know you want to help this dog but it's better if we give him to the police so they can take him to an orphanage," the dog closes eyes in fear.
"Nice one Dad," I said with an annoyed voice. Dad kind of gave me that look that said what the hell did I do in a kind of instrumental "expression. So I know I'm not your parent but I could be a parent for you if you like?"
I said.
My dad then raised an eyebrow, "honey you're acting way more mature then I remember"? "Well they did call me a person who's good with kids"? I said to my dad. "Oh right because you volunteer for daycare all the time", my dad said.
But our conversation was cut off by the sound of walkie talkies going off. Oh no they're close, what we're going to do"? The dog said worried. "Jacob, if you're here please make your presents known," the cop said.
I knew if I made the wrong move it could all end right here, so I told my dad and the pup to listen to me very carefully.
"So how about we unzip the zipper and run as fast as we can towards the opposite direction," "are you crazy why would you do that"? my dad said. Well do you have a better idea"?! I whispered loudly. My dad's side, fine but we have to be careful not to be caught, he whispered to me. And so that our plan was in session, I slowly unzipped the tent's zipper and I grabbed the pup slowly walking out going the opposite direction hoping the officer wouldn't see us. Unfortunately I stepped on a twig and it snapped echoing the sound around the forest around us we're in. At that moment we saw a light shine in our direction, "hey get down"? the officer demanded. Hey sir I found a child he said to the walkie-talkie, and it appears that the suspect you've been looking for for the last 3 days has the child we were looking for. Me and I looked at each other before we booked it, running as fast as we could in the opposite direction from the police officer. I still had Jacob in my hand when I found out his name, due to the officer shouting out his
name earlier. We kept running, and running, and running, here in the officer slowly getting ground on us. We didn't know what direction we're heading we're heading all over the place trying to escape the officer. We kept running until we saw a cliff. I knew we were all surrounded at that point so I had no option but to surrender, We all put our feet and hands down on the floor laying the officer know we surrendered. The officer began handcuffing our hands one by one also doing the same to Jacob. The officer didn't pick this up, "you guys have a lot of nerve running away from a police officer you know that"? The bipedal dog police officer said. The officer just lettuce across the forest to the end of the
forest where there was a police car waiting across the forest to the road. Seriously we were that close to getting out the forest that was that close I said to myself. The officer that led us to the car and put us all in, took off her handcuffs and closed the door to the police door before hopping in, turning on his keys and driving away to the police station I assume. Oh no we're going to jail and this is all my fault Jacob said." beginning to cry softly but audibly. "No this is not your fault this is my fault I shouldn't have given you to the police officer and the situation could have been avoided," I said with a guilty voice. Jacob didn't put his head on my shoulder and fell asleep on my shoulder with streams of tears still going down his face while he slept. I felt crazy and insane this dog has been through so much and now he's being arrested and we're being arrested. But I smiled looking at him sleeping just let me know that I care for him and he knows that too. After driving for 30 minutes, we finally approached the police station to see my suspicions were correct.
The officer then came out of this door, opening our door and telling us to get out. We instructively get out of the police vehicle with the police officer picking up sleeping Jacob in the back. The police officer then let in the door taking us to a cell where she placed us in. "So I'm going to keep you here until someone bails you out. I never seen your kind before, what breed are you two"? The officer asked seriously. "Well this is kind of going to be hard to explain but we are not a dog species, we're actually humans," I admitted. The dog looks stunned at that question but eventually let It Go. "If someone doesn't bail you out and in 72 hours I'll
take two to jail. For kidnapping and resisting arrest. Said the officer,
And you Jacob, the daycare will be here to pick you guys up in a little bit," said the officer.
We all just sat in our stall with Jacob sitting across from us from outside the cell. We all just sat in silence just regretting everything we did, I just wish we just left when we had the chance.
3 days later, the officer came back telling us no one is balling us out so I guess we're going to jail I guess. Jacob surprisingly didn't get picked up all this time being in the police station. We walked to the police car, my chest filled with anger of my own stupidity wishing I weren't so stupid back at the tent. Then an idea hit me a dumb idea but one that might get us out of this situation. "I looked at the group with secrecy and whispered to them.
So when the officer opens the door and handcuffs us, we'll run." I said to all of us.
"Are you insane, plus we can't run from the cops!" My dad whispered loudly.
"Well do you have a better idea," I said a little louder. My dad just face palmed himself not intune with the idea of running from the cops but it's better than being surrounded by dog in jail who don't know us because that would be awkward.
