I figured I thought I'd try making an overall ""thought out"" process of Monhun monsters having Mamono variants, sorted from the generation they were first introduced in. However, don't expect me to make entries on every monster, especially the small ones. First are the flagships, and then I'll just work from top to bottom after that.

There are some aspects from other fics, mainly the Dragon Charm effects (Mamono Observation Records, ao3) and the Rifts (Grand Expedition to the Foreign World). Please support them more than you'd support this fic. I'll only take suggestions for future edits.

I don't think I have to say this, but I do not own Monster Hunter and Monster Girl Encyclopedia. They are the property of Capcom and Kenkou Cross, respectively.

Monsters Featured: Rathian, Rathalos

Before we begin discussing the details of this book, I would like to say that I am not the Wandering Scholar. I simply cross-referenced it. I came from another world like the Mamono in this encyclopedia, notes, whatever this work is considered as, and I had my ways of getting these without being.. converted.

I'd still like to have my job at the guild, even if I don't usually have a guard with me. All I have is a lot of Smoke Bombs, an advanced Ghillie Mantle thanks to the people at the New World, and backup materials to keep me alive and.. sane, I suppose.

How did we get here? Let's start from the beginning..

My name is Lyrica, a Wyverian Field Researcher. I was once stationed in Elgado Outpost with a few peers alongside me during the Qurio Investigation- gods, it was creepy, but due to my diligence and, "recklessness," as they said, I quickly contributed to the analysis of the Qurio. I even got to shake hands with Kamura's Storm Slayer!

Sure, "Fierce Flame" and "Savior of the Kingdom" are their most famous titles, but Storm Slayer rolls off the tongue better. I mean, they slayed an Amatsu, for His Immenseness' sake!

Anyway, enough of that. A few years pass, and I end up being sponsored by the Guild's higher-ups to be one of the few researchers on-site to the Foreign World, as they called it. I naturally asked why, considering I really didn't do anything of note other than what I did previously, but they emphasized, and I mean they emphasized, that I am one of the few who is reckless enough to observe stuff withoutHunter's supervision willingly.

..Sorry? They made it sound like I was at fault there. But it was a quality missing from their investigation, and they gave me a Palamute and a Palico to assist me.. a researcher. I get the Palamute, considering I probably needed to walk a lot, but the Palico?

They said the Palico was an experienced 'Bombing Prowler'. Hand-picked by one of their Guild Knights. Formy protection.

Regardless, I accepted the job because they really did expect me to join up.. and besides, with that amount of equipment and supplies? They literally gave me what a Hunter usually brought.

I got acquainted with my new team, made sure I carried enough stuff to reliably sustain my supplies without having to find another rift and request them for at least a couple of months, and I was prepared to enter.

Before that, though- they gave me, my Palamute, who I got to name Jin, and Rina, who was the Guild Knight's palico, an exceptionally high-quality Dragon Charm. A Hunter from the Caravan- the place where those Ace Hunters were, holy shit wow, figured out that the "essential" equivalent to Bioenergy in that world was called mana.It was more of a blanket term than anything, but if I was gonna write notes for them, I had to differentiate the terms I usually used, considering they were similarbut not the exact same.

I was about to ask why they gave the charms to both Jin and Rina, but they told me that one of the first teams they sent there.. had their Palicos, I quote, "turned to Meowstresses." Huh.. So that's why.

Anyway, the first thing I was assigned to was a Rath pair who the guild put a tag on. Luckily, Scoutflies could track their scent even from the rift, so I could confidently say I had it easy.. I hoped. All they told me was that Monsters here and monsters there were wholly different, with me being the one researcher who needed to detail the changes from monsters that came from here, and happened to pass through a rift to go there.

The last thing they gave me was the weirdest one. A copy of that world's.. "Monster Girl Encyclopedia." I was told to give it a read, and cross-reference it and my notes to compare what I've seen and reported.

It was, quite essentially, an encyclopedia with a focus on breeding, mating, and intercourse among these Mamono. And Human Men.

I couldn't even dismiss it as a fetish book, too. I couldn't dismiss it as a sham of a Scholar who absolutely just wanted to write about monster breeding with these girls. So I found myself asking..

Why was my first task in the Foreign World to research a Rath couple?

Per my preference and Rina's insistence, I differentiated some terms from my world and the Foreign World. It is omitted if a matching equivalent does not exist or there is nothing close enough for it to have one.

Futhermore, to differentiate between them, my world will be referred to as the Hunter's World, while the Old World and New World will still be used to refer to those continents.

Rathian

Family: Dragon Rath

Type: Reptile Flying Wyvern

Habitat: Temperate regions, such as Forests, Deserts, Jungles, and some Mountainous Regions

Disposition: Loyal, protective, territorial

Diet: Carnivorous, local wildlife

The Rathian, the more feminine of the Rath pair, is a type of Mamono that passed from the Rifts and became who they currently are due to the shift from Bioenergy to Mana. Although, like its "mate," sole Rathian do exist, and they usually wander around their habitats trying to find one. If a Rathian is alone during Mating Season, they are subject to heightened aggression to the point of resorting to assaulting a Human Male to get rid of their urges.

Barring their subspecies, the Queens of the Land take the appearance of human women with primarily light green to green hair and yellow eyes and have differing busts, waists, hip sizes, and overall heights depending on how large or small they were prior to monsterization. Furthermore, while they vary, some parts of their body will always be covered in scales. While their tails are still toxic to those they deem threats, becoming a Mamono has supplied them with an Aphrodisiac. Cutting off their tail mitigates the poison but does not eliminate it. Interestingly, it has been noted that they still shed their scales and leave gashes around to mark their territory.

Like most other monsters from the Hunter's World, Rathians have an abundance of mana, albeit with little talent nor willingness to learn to cast spells. They still retain their territorial behavior by outright harassing other Mamono to "get the fuck out of her territory." Although most will resist, they usually back off when they demonstrate the willingness to beat the opposition to near death to prove her point.

They can learn fire magic, though it is to be noted that Rathians have greater firepower, yet less proficiency and talent than their red counterparts.

Sole Rathians act more needy and aggressive as they did not have a Rathalos prior to Monsterization. Although they would greatly prefer a Rathalos compared to a Human Male, they will consider "skipping" that part of the process to satiate their urges. However, it is to be noted that they will not marry a man that they have had sex with if she lacks the "2nd" partner in the relationship,in the case of the male never turning into a Rathalos Incubus. If this happens, then they are set for life.

Sex with a Rathian is known to go two ways- if the man had defeated her before turning into an Incubus, then she will constantly be defiant, and if they didn't- she usually is the dominant one, resulting in a usually broken pelvis and her husband ending up poisoned. The few cases of this happening report that the Rathian will mellow out eventually, and although it will be a rough journey, she'll usually be one of the best Dragon wives because of how loyal she ends up being. She'll protect her children and husband from everything threatening them.

However, due to their instincts, they'll be very much open to a polyamorous relationship with Rathalos, even insisting on them joining up if they like them. Still, they will adamantly refuse other Rathians from joining the group. In fact, they will have a turf war with each other if even one of them decides to be stubborn.

Husbands of both Mamono say that their sex with each other is incomplete when even one member is missing. They'll even adopt the Rathian's insistence and actuallyencourage other people from just letting another member of the Raths in their group.

Rathalos

Family: Dragon Rath

Type: Reptile Flying Wyvern

Habitat: Temperate regions to Volcanic regions, such as Forests, Volcanoes, and some Mountainous Regions butNOTDeserts

Disposition: Loyal, tomboyish, territorial

Diet: Carnivorous, local wildlife

The Rathalos, contrasting the Rathian, are the more active and assertive members of the Raths. They also came from the same rifts connecting the Hunter's World and the Foreign World. Unlike Rathian, they were originally male before becoming women before their monsterization, similar to the Alps. In the Hunter's World, there are no female Rathaloses or male Rathians. Due to the Demon Lord's mana, they are all female, except human men; they turn into Rathalos incubuses.

Sole Rathalos also exist, albeit they are more aggressive than sole Rathians because they are notably more uncomfortable with the change and are usually desperate for their urges todisappear. But like Alps, if they successfully assault a human male, they will instinctively know how to have sex as a woman. Of course, they will be confused about how they're taking a Rathian's role, but they will eventually surrender to the pleasure and, albeit reluctantly, act like it's natural for them.

They will act like "traditional" wyverns in the Foreign World, since their method of taking someone is to stalk them in the air and swoop down to the sky to take them into their nest to copulate with them.. although their behavior mentioned above will still apply. Men that have Rathalos wives will say that if the Rathalos get to them first, their first meeting will be.. awkward, to say the least. In fact, they've even offered to bring them back from where they came from if the Rathalos did not get over their initial confusion.

Many parts of Rathalos behavior are still retained, like how they occasionally leave gashes to mark their territory and shed some scales.

Again, excluding their subspecies, The Kings of the Sky usually have the appearance of tomboys with red hair and blue, yellow, or red eyes and have noticeably inferior bust sizes than their green counterparts. They all have small breasts or are flat. However, they can look feminine regardless. Rathalos can also have longer hair, with their hair turning black down the tips. They still have their poison in their talons and developed Aphrodisiacs alongside their poison, like how Rathians do. To fight back and/or take territory from another Mamono, they will attack them with flames to take their own nests for themselves, both to have a place to eat safely and to have somewhere to sleep.

Their diet did not change. In fact, Rathalos can be seen swooping down from the skies to take an animal away so that they can eat it in peace, and sometimes, a Rathian could join them.

They have a greater abundance of mana than a Rathian; however, their only talent will be a greater proficiency with flame magic.

It is to be noted that while Rathians will almost always reject their victims if they do not turn into an incubus, Rathalos mamono will accept them for who they are, especially if they help them get over their sudden change. In fact, sole Rathaloses have been shown to prefer non-incubus husbands because they find it odd that they're being fucked by one of their own, and this is without a Rathian's support.

Ironically, despite being the more belligerent and aggressive of the Raths, husbands of Rathalos have commented that she's the more submissive one in bed starting out, yet will casually and amicably change to treat sex as a more casual, loving experience the more experience they have with sex.

But like their counterparts, Rathalos will especially insist on getting a Rathian in the relationship. In fact, they've even been shown to beg for them to agree.

Extra Notes - Rath couples, and Polyamory

All Raths, regardless of what they are, all desire one thing from a man.

That is their willingness to always have a threesome with them and the Rath couple. Many husbands with them report that it's like they are made to have a threesome with each other.

It's not just their preference. Rathians will struggle to become impregnated without a Rathalos' essence/mana, and Rathalos are entirely infertile and helpless without a Rathian's essence. Thus why Rathaloses are far more desperate for a Rathian partner than the other.

It's good to note that Rath couples do usually rape a man together, and together, there's almost no Mamono native to the Foreign World able to prevent them from taking their territory back from the pair. Those that resist are met with a Rathian's poison and a Rathalos' flames, and worse yet, Hunters have reported they have exceptionally better coordination with these attacks before their monsterization. In fact, considering all Mamono are exponentially more intelligent than their previous, much more monster-like forms, this was unfortunately to be expected.

Hunters have reportedly described such experiences with the words: "I got jumped."

As for how they rape men, it's usually initiated by the Rathalos swooping in, capturing one, and the Rathian will be waiting in the nest, ready to pump in even more Aphrodisiac into their bodies alongside the Rathalos already having injected her own using her talons. The man will inevitably become a Rathalos incubus if he cannot fight back, considering they are being dealt with by two Raths instead of one.

Later down the line, they'll actually be well-off, considering the Rathalos does most of the work, the Rathian handles maternal affairs, and he'll be able to do whatever they want- as long as he treats his Rath wives should, because, by the gods, they're genuinely ungrateful pieces of shit if they're unsatisfied with their wealth.

Naturally, Rathalos and Rathians do still love each other and are willing to get a husband to indulge them in their new life in the Foreign World. Their monstrous instincts have them love their own kind, and their Mamono instincts have them love whoever appears to become their husband.

This was written about a couple of months into my research. The Rath couple my scoutflies tracked are living a happy life with their husband, and I'm off to research the Dromes. Fortunately, Rina and Jin haven't shown any adverse effects to the mana here, and I still have supplies. I'll return to the Hunter's World after checking off the list.

At least the Charms worked. Rina has done well in fending off any attackers from coming. I'm surprised a Guild Knight's Prowler is this effective..

I can safely say this- the Guildmarm, or Sophia, would've absolutely loved this place.

FANFIC NET A/N: Hello. I've decided to publish it here after some thinking.

AO3 will still be this fic's primary source of updates, but I'll update it more if people like it here.
