The days following Finn's reintroduction to Rachel and Serena felt like a whirlwind, like stepping back into a life he thought he had lost forever. But even as he basked in the warmth of being with them, a nagging feeling lingered. There were so many questions in his head, questions that Rachel hadn't yet answered.

It felt strange—like the pieces of a puzzle that had been scattered across years, and now that he was back in Lima, he was scrambling to put them together. The more he thought about it, the more certain he became that there were things about Rachel's life that he still didn't know. Things that felt almost... hidden.

One of the biggest questions on his mind was Kurt. It had been almost a decade since high school, and Finn and Kurt had kept in touch here and there, mostly through the occasional phone call or text. But this? This was different. Kurt had been involved with Rachel and Serena, and yet he had never mentioned anything to Finn. Not once had his brother said a word about Rachel's daughter. That was strange, to say the least.

Finn had always known that Kurt and Rachel had a special bond, but this? Keeping something so important from him? It didn't sit right. Had Kurt kept Serena a secret from Finn on purpose, or had he just been too wrapped up in his own life to mention it? Finn had always considered Kurt one of the people he could trust the most, so why hadn't his brother said anything?

It hit him suddenly: Kurt had stayed in Lima, while Finn had gone to New York. That was where everything had shifted, wasn't it? Kurt had stayed close to their hometown, and Finn had left for what he thought was the next big step in his life. And maybe Kurt had done the same, staying behind because he felt there was nothing left for him in New York. Finn didn't really know, but it seemed strange that his brother had never brought up Serena, or the fact that Rachel had moved back to Lima to raise a child alone.

It made him question everything. Had he really been that out of touch? He had always been close to Kurt, but had they truly grown that distant? Or was it just that Rachel had kept her life in Lima a secret, keeping everyone in the dark about Serena's existence? It wasn't like Rachel to keep things from him, not really.

Then there was the issue of their breakup before New York. Had this all really been about Rachel's dreams? He had always assumed she had ended things because she was too focused on her future in the city, and Finn hadn't fit into that vision. He had let her go, had let her chase the dream that had always been hers. But now that he was back, it was hard to ignore the fact that Rachel hadn't followed her dreams the way he'd thought she would. Had she really given up on New York because of him? Or was there something else?

Finn hadn't even considered the possibility that Rachel might want to return to New York someday. Could she still? Just because she had a child didn't mean she couldn't find a way to make it work. But would she want to? Could she go back to the stage, or had her life in Lima with Serena truly become her new dream?

It wasn't lost on Finn that Rachel hadn't yet told him if she planned on returning to New York or staying in Lima. He hoped that wasn't something she had given up on, because Rachel had always deserved to follow her dreams, no matter what life had thrown at her. She was still Rachel—determined, ambitious, and passionate. But now, she had Serena to think about. Finn didn't want to push her, but he couldn't help but wonder if there was more to her decision to stay in Lima than she had let on.

And then there were her dads.

Finn hadn't asked Rachel much about her family—he hadn't wanted to pry. But now, with the sudden awareness of how much had changed, it seemed impossible to ignore. If Rachel had moved back to Lima, it had to be for a reason. There had to be more to it than just the fact that she needed space or time to raise Serena.

"Where are your dads, Rachel?" Finn had asked quietly one afternoon as they sat on the porch, watching Serena run around the yard, her laughter ringing in the air.

Rachel paused, her eyes flickering with sadness, before she looked away. "They're both gone."

It hit Finn harder than he expected. He knew Rachel's dads had been in her life, had been a steady source of love and support. But to hear that both of them were gone, that Rachel had to face the world without them, struck him deeply. It explained so much about why Rachel had come back to Lima. She needed the support, the familiarity. She needed the people who knew her best, the place where she could be herself.

"I'm sorry," Finn said softly, his voice laced with regret. "I didn't know."

Rachel smiled faintly, her eyes glossy. "It's okay. They passed a few years ago. I didn't really talk about it much. I think I just… I think I just needed to focus on getting through it. After everything with Kurt, and then Serena… I didn't have time to dwell."

Finn nodded slowly, absorbing the weight of her words. He couldn't imagine losing both of his parents so young. He could only imagine how much that had shaped Rachel—how much she had had to face alone.

"And that's why you moved back to Lima?" Finn asked, finally voicing the question that had been eating at him. "To be closer to family?"

Rachel hesitated, a distant look crossing her face. "Yeah. I needed to be near the people who could help me. Kurt's been amazing, and I didn't want Serena growing up without knowing her roots, without the support of people who loved her. And after everything… I just wanted to feel like I had a place again."

Finn could see the exhaustion in her eyes, the weight of everything she had carried on her shoulders for so long. She had given up her life in New York, given up the dream they had once shared. She had given up so much, but not for him—not really. It wasn't about him; it was about survival.

"I get it," Finn said softly, his heart swelling with empathy. "You did what you had to do. But you don't have to do it alone anymore, Rachel. I'm here now."

Rachel looked at him, her eyes filled with a mix of hope and doubt. "I don't know if I can go back to New York, Finn. I don't know if I can leave Serena. But I don't want to give up on myself, either. I'm still figuring it out."

Finn reached out, taking her hand gently in his. "We'll figure it out together."

He didn't know where their story was going, but one thing was certain—he wasn't going to let Rachel face it alone. Not this time.
