Hammerlocke Gym Battles (Part One)
Morning soon came in Hammerlocke; after having breakfast in the hotel the Loud Crowd spent the night in, they exited the hotel.
"You guys ready to earn your final badges?" asked Lincoln.
"YEAH!" replied the rest of the group. They all then head for the Hammerlocke gym and enter the front gate.
"I hope I get a castle like this someday." said Lola.
"With all the money you'll probably make from being the Ballonlea City gym leader, that's possible." said Lincoln. "And you can also find valuable stuff to sell in the Pokemon Dens."
"Good idea, Linky." said Lola. As the group head down the long corridor towards a staff member, they notice a lot of other trainers looking at them.
"It's the Loud Crowd." said a trainer.
"I've heard about them." said another trainer.
"That Lincoln kid beat nearly all the gym leaders' Dynamaxed Pokemon with a regular-sized one." said a girl.
"I wonder if one of them can beat Leon." said another trainer.
"I wonder if that Lincoln kid has a girlfriend?" asked another girl.
"Wow; we're really popular." said Lana.
"Can't blame them." said Lola as she flips her hair to the side. "My natural appeal would draw anyone's attention."
The group soon reaches the end of the corridor and go over to the staff member.
"We're here to challenge the gym leader." said Lincoln.
"Very well." said the staff member. "Which of you will be challenging Raihan first?"
"I will." said Lincoln as he steps forward.
"You're going first, bro?" asked Luna.
"Yeah, I wanna see if I can win without knowing what to expect from Raihan." said Lincoln. "I don't want to feel like the reason I won my past gym matches was because I saw what the gym leaders had before I could battle and have an inside advantage."
"Go for it, buddy." said Clyde.
"We're rootin' for you." said Lana.
"Show Raihan who's boss." said Lucy from behind Lincoln, startling him.
"Thanks, everyone." said Lincoln.
"Just change into your gym uniform and head over to Hammerlocke Vault." said the official.
"The vault?" Lincoln replied before he shrugs and heads for the changing room; once he's wearing his uniform, he heads over to Hammerlocke Vault. He soon reaches his destination and goes up to the tapestry room where he sees Raihan and three trainers in gym uniforms inside.
"Hello, Lincoln." said Raihan.
"Hi." Lincoln replied.
"I'm gonna see how many gym challengers are left." said Raihan before he looks at his Rotom Phone screen for a few moments. "Aside from your group, there's not a lot of gym challengers remaining."
"So, what's my Gym Test?" asked Lincoln.
"It's simple." said Raihan. "All you have to do is defeat three trainers, personally trained by me, in Double Battles."
"Double Battles?" Lincoln replied.
"You basically have two of your Pokemon out at the same time and battle your opponent's two Pokemon." said Raihan.
"That sounds interesting." said Lincoln before he looks around at all the old tapestries on the wall. "But won't we risk damaging the tapestries; they must have some historical value."
"They'll be fine." said Raihan. "But that's enough out of me; Sebastian, you're up." A boy with black, shoulder-length hair, wearing a gym uniform, and glasses, walks over in front of Lincoln.
"I'm Sebastian." said the boy now known as Sebastian. "I learned two things from Raihan: First, Dragon Types are ridiculously powerful, and second; I need to create an advantage on the battlefield to utilize that power."
"Begin." said Raihan. Sebastian takes out two pokeballs and tosses them, releasing a white, pelican-like Pokemon with a light blue plumage on its head, and wing tips.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the Pokemon.
"Pelliper, the Water Bird Pokemon, and the evolved form of Wingull. Skimming the water's surface, it dips its large bill in the sea, scoops up food and water, and carries it." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
Sebastian's other Pokemon was a lilac-colored Pokemon with a snail-like body with a shell-like growth on its back; Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at it.
"Sliggoo, the Soft Tissue Pokemon, and the evolved form of Goomy. The lump on its back contains its tiny brain. It thinks only of food and escaping its enemies." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone. Suddenly, it starts to rain.
"Why is it raining inside?" asked Lincoln.
"That's my Pelliper's Drizzle ability." said Sebastian. "It causes rain when Pelliper's brought out in battle."
"A little shower won't stop me." said Lincoln. He considers his options and brings out his Boltund and Alolan Sandslash. "Boltund, use Wild Charge on Pelliper; and Sandslash, use Icicle Spear on Sliggoo." His Boltund's body becomes covered in electricity as it charges headfirst at the Pelliper and slams into it, dealing enough super effective damage, thanks to Pelliper being a combination of two Pokemon weak against electricity, to knock it out; Boltund takes recoil damage from his attack. Lincoln's Alolan Sandslash launches a bunch of icicles at Sliggoo, hitting it multiple times, dealing super effective damage to it.
"Sliggoo, use Water Pulse on the Alolan Sandslash!" said Sebastian. His Sliggoo releases a pulsing blast of water at Alolan Sandslash, that was powered up by the rain and hits him.
"Boltund, use Crunch!" said Lincoln. His Boltund runs at Sliggoo and bites down hard on its body, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"No!" said Sebastian. He lets out a sigh before he hands Lincoln pokedollars and returns his Pokemon to their before walking off to where the other trainers were.
"Boltund, are you okay, buddy?" Lincoln asked his Pokemon out of concern after he took some recoil damage.
"Nothing I can't handle." said Boltund.
"Sorry for making you do that." said Lincoln.
"Don't worry about it." said Boltund.
"Camilla, you're up." Raihan said to a girl with long black hair, glasses, and gym uniform who steps up and takes Sebastian's place.
"I'm Camilla." said the girl now known as Camilla. "In Double Battles, it's important to figure out what role each of your opponent's Pokemon play." She then takes out two pokeballs and tosses them, releasing a Ninetales, and a bipedal, turtlelike Pokemon with a red, yellow-trimmed shell that had large brown and black spines on it, along with a hatlike one on its head.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the shelled Pokemon.
"Turtonator, the Blast Turtle Pokemon. Eating sulfur in its volcanic habitat is what causes explosive compounds to develop in its shell. Its droppings are also dangerously explosive." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
'Wonder if Lisa would like to study this Pokemon's fecal matter.' Lincoln asked himself. The sunlight pouring into the room grew brighter.
"I take it your Ninetales has the Drought ability?" Lincoln asked Camilla.
"Exactly." Camilla replied. Lincoln takes out two pokeballs and lets out his Gyarados and Lycanroc; Gyarados glares menacingly at Camilla's Pokemon, making them nervous, and lowering their attack power.
"Gyarados's Intimidate ability comes in handy." said Lincoln. "Lycanroc, use Rock Slide on both of her Pokemon; Gyarados, use Hydro Pump on Ninetales!" His Lycanroc drops a bunch of rocks onto Turtonator and Ninetales, dealing super effective damage to both of them, while Gyarados releases a powerful blast of water, dealing super effective damage to the Ninetales, and knocking it out.
"Turtonator, use Dragon Pulse on Lycanroc!" said Camilla. Her Turtonator releases a turquoise-colored energy ball from its snout that hits Lycanroc, dealing damage to him.
"Lycanroc, use Accelerock!" shouts Lincoln. His Lycanroc moves quickly at Turtonator while white streams of energy surround him.
"Turtonator, use Shell Trap!" said Camilla. Turtonator turns its back to Lycanroc, just as he hits it, dealing super effective damage; however, the spikes on its back explode, not doing much damage to Lycanroc, but Turtonator took enough super effective damage from his attack to get knocked out.
"Are you okay, Lycanroc?" Lincoln asked his Pokemon.
"Barely felt it." said Lycanroc with a grin. Both trainers return their Pokemon to their pokeballs, and Camilla hands Lincoln pokedollars before she walks back to where the other trainers were.
"You made it to the final trainer, Lincoln." said Raihan. "Aria, your time to shine!" Another girl trainer steps forward.
"A Double Battle." said Aria. "Do you combine the strength of two Pokemon to push through, or do you have one of them support the other?"
"Both." said Lincoln. Aria nods before she takes out two pokeballs and tosses them, releasing a large, gray, bipedal, dragonlike Pokemon with yellow and orange, oval-shaped plates going down its arms, and a gold, oval-shaped crest on its forehead. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at the new Pokemon.
"Hakamo-o, the Scaly Pokemon, and the evolved form of Jangmo-o. Before attacking its enemies, it clashes its scales together and roars. Its sharp claws shred the opposition." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
Aria's other Pokemon was a large, white, bipedal Pokemon with green hands and feet. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at this Pokemon as well.
"Abomasnow, the Frosted Tree Pokemon, and the evolved form of Snover. This Pokémon is known to bring blizzards. A shake of its massive body is enough to cause whiteout conditions." said Lincoln Rotom Phone; and true to the entry, a large blizzard appears out of nowhere.
"Abomasnow has the Snow Warning ability." said Aria. "It unleashes a blizzard when brought out into battle."
"I see that." said Lincoln as he shields his eyes from the flurry as he takes out two pokeballs and tosses them, releasing his Cinderace and Lucario.
"Cinderace, use Pyro Ball on Abomasnow; Lucario, use Dragon Pulse on Hakamo-o!" said Lincoln. Cinderace kicks up a loose rock and juggles it with his feet, with it becoming a fireball as he does; he kicks it at the Abomasnow, dealing super effective damage to it. Lucario forms a turquoise energy ball in his hand and launches it at Hakamo-o, hitting it, and dealing super effective damage.
"Abomasnow, use Ice Punch on Lucario; Hakamo-o, use Brick Break on it also!" said Aria. Her Abomasnow runs at Lucario with its fist covered in ice energy, while Hakamo-o moves towards him with its fist raised up.
"Lucario, use Endure!" said Lincoln. Lucario nods as he braces himself for the incoming attacks; Abomasnow's fist hits him, not doing much damage, but Hakamo-o's attack was able to do super effective damage, but thanks to Endure, he was able to withstand both moves.
"Cinderace, use Flame Charge on Abomasnow; Lucario, use Close Combat on Hakamo-o!" said Lincoln. His Cinderace runs at the Abomasnow as his body's covered in fire and slams into it, dealing super effective damage, while Lucario goes up close to Hakamo-o and does a flurry of punches and kicks to it; both of Aria's Pokemon were knocked out.
"No way!" said Aria.
"Way to go, you two!" said Lincoln to his Pokemon. Aria returns her two Pokemon to their pokeballs, hands Lincoln some pokedollars, and goes back over to the other two trainers.
"Good work, Lincoln." said Raihan. "You have earned the right to battle me."
"Awesome!" said Lincoln.
"Get your Pokemon treated and report to the stadium." said Raihan.
Lincoln goes over to the Pokemon Center and has the nurse treat his Pokemon; while he waits, he calls his family.
"Hi, sweetie." said Rita.
"Hi, Mom." said Lincoln. "I'm about to do my gym battle here in Hammerlocke."
"We'll all be watching and cheering for you." said Lori.
"Give it your all, bro!" said Lynn Jr.
Twenty minutes later, Lincoln was standing in the tunnel leading into the stadium with a look of determination on his face.
"This is it." said Lincoln. "My last gym battle in Galar." He takes a deep breath and walks out onto the field to be meet with loud cheers from all the spectators.
"You can do it, bro!" said Luna.
"Show Raihan what you can do!" said Ronnie Anne.
"You can do it, Lincoln!" a familiar voice from near them calls out, making Lincoln's friends and sisters look to see Gloria sitting near them.
"Hey, Gloria." said Sam, making Ronnie Anne look at Gloria with a frown.
"Good morning to you all." said Gloria.
"You here to challenge Raihan also?" asked Lana.
"Aye." said Gloria. "But I also want to cheer on my cute Lincoln in person."
"Better be careful." said Lola. "There are other girls who want my brother also."
"WHO?!" Gloria asked loudly.
"Ronnie Anne over here." said Lana as she points at Lincoln's friend, making Ronnie Anne blush a bit, and Gloria frown at her.
"And a girl named Marnie." said Leni.
"Well, the two should watch their backs around me." said Gloria as she glares at Ronnie Anne who was glaring back at her. "Lincoln is mine!"
"This should be good." said Lola.
Back on the field, Lincoln and Raihan were at the center of the field, looking at each other.
"You and your group have quite the reputation." said Raihan.
"I just heard about that." said Lincoln.
"Let's see if you can live up to it." said Raihan. He and Lincoln then walk to opposite ends of the field as an official comes out to the center of it.
"This match will be between the Gym Leader, Raihan; and the Gym Challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the official. "Both trainers will use four Pokemon, and each one can have two Pokemon out at the same time. Whichever trainer defeats all of their opponent's Pokemon first will be the winner. Let the match begin!"
The official steps off to the side as Lincoln and Raihan each take out two pokeballs and toss them; Lincoln lets out his Gyarados and Alolan Sandslash, while Raihan lets out a Gigalith, and a light green, bipedal, winged, dragonlike Pokemon with red lens over its eyes, red-edged, diamond-shaped wings, and two horns coming out the top of its head that curve behind him.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the green Pokemon.
"Flygon, the Mystic Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Trapinch. It is nicknamed the Desert Spirit because the flapping of its wings sounds like a woman singing." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"And Lincoln has out his Gyarados and Alolan Sandslash, while Raihan has out his Flygon and Gigalith!" said the announcer. "What will they do now?!" Suddenly, a sandstorm appears out of nowhere and bombards everyone on the battlefield with sand.
"I'm guessing one of your Pokemon has the Sand Stream ability." Lincoln says to Raihan.
"That would be my Gigalith." said Raihan with a smirk.
"Well, your Gigalith isn't the only one with an ability; right Gyarados?" Lincoln asked his Pokemon as she snarls at Raihan's Pokemon, lowering their attack strengths.
"Not bad." said Raihan.
"And you're not the only one who can change the weather." said Lincoln. "Gyarados, use Rain Dance!" His Gyarados starts to roar while swaying her body; rain clouds appear overhead and it starts to rain heavily, washing away the sandstorm.
"Lincoln has gotten rid of Raihan's sandstorm!" said the announcer.
"Clever." said Raihan. "Using Rain Dance to get rid of my sandstorm like that."
"That's why I'm the man with the plan." said Lincoln. "Sandslash, use Blizzard!" His Alolan Sandslash releases a powerful blizzard from his body that hits both Raihan's Pokemon, dealing super effective damage to Flygon, and regular damage to Gigalith.
"Flygon, use Earthquake!" said Raihan, "And Gigalith, use Power Gem on Gyarados!" His Flygon slams into the ground, sending a shockwave towards Lincoln's Pokemon; thanks to Gyarados being part flying type, she was unaffected, but Alolan Sandslash wasn't as fortunate and takes super effective damage. Gigalith fires a pink beam of energy out of its chest crystal that hits Gyarados, dealing super effective damage.
"Sandslash, use Icicle Spear on Flygon; Gyarados, use Aqua Tail on Gigalith!" said Lincoln. His Alolan Sandslash launches a bunch of icicles at Flygon, hitting it repeatedly while Gyarados hits Gigalith with her water-covered tail that was powered up by the rain; both Raihan's Pokemon take super effective damage, and were knocked out.
"Flygon and Gigalith are both unable to battle. Gyarados and Sandslash are the winners." said the official.
"Lincoln has taken down two of Raihan's Pokemon!" said the announcer. "Now Raihan has two Pokemon remaining! Can we come back and pull off a win?!"
"Way to go, bro!" said Luna.
"Keep it up, lad!" said Gloria.
"You can do it, Lincoln!" said Ronnie Anne before she and Gloria look at each other with glares.
Back in Royal Woods, everyone at the Loud house was watching Lincoln's gym battle.
"Lincoln's halfway there." said Lori.
"He can do it!" said Lynn Jr.
"We know he can." said Luan.
Back at Hammerlocke Stadium, Raihan was returning his Pokemon to their pokeballs.
"You were both great." said Raihan. He puts both of his pokeballs back on his waist before pulling off his last two; he tosses them, releasing a Sandaconda, and a light gray metallic, bipedal Pokemon with a tall body, large feet, chunky tail, and arms that are onyx-colored at the tips of them.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the metallic Pokemon.
"Duraludon, the Alloy Pokemon. The special metal that composes its body is very light, so this Pokémon has considerable agility. It lives in caves because it dislikes the rain." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"And Raihan's last two Pokemon are his Sandaconda and Duraludon!" said the announcer. "Can Lincoln defeat them?"
Raihan suddenly returns his Duraldon to its pokeball and holds out his wrist that's revealed to have a Dynamax Band on it.
"I know what's coming next." said Lincoln as he braces himself. Raihan use his Dynamax Band to enlarge Duraludon's pokeball; he takes a selfie of himself with his Rotom Phone before he tosses the pokeball, letting Duraludon back out, only Gigantamaxed, which makes him look like a skyscraper.
"And Raihan has Gigantamaxed his Duraludon!" said the announcer. "Can Lincoln topple this building and pull off a win."
"Not only is it as tall as a skyscraper, but it also looks like one!" said Lincoln.
"Don't worry, bro!" said Luna.
"You can beat it!" said Lana.
"Sandslash, use Icicle Crash on Duraludon; Gyarados, use Hydro Pump on Sandaconda!" said Lincoln. His Alolan Sandslash hits the Gigantamaxed Duraldon with a bunch of icicles, dealing a little bit of damage, while Gyarados fires a powerful stream of water from her mouth at Sandaconda, and thanks to the rain that was still going on, it was powered up enough to do enough super effective damage to knock Sandaconda out.
"You gotta be kidding me." said Raihan.
"Sandaconda is unable to battle. Sandslash and Gyarados are the winners." said the official.
"And Lincoln's Gyarados takes down Sandaconda in one hit!" said the announcer. "Now Raihan only has his Duraludon remaining!"
"And he's all I need!" said Raihan before he returns his Sandaconda to its pokeball. "Duraludon, use Max Steelspike on that Alolan Sandslash!" His Duraldon lets out a roar before a trail of metal spike comes out towards Lincoln's Alolan Sandslash, hitting him, and dealing enough damage to knock him out.
"And Duraludon takes down Lincoln's Alolan Sandslash!" said the announcer. "Can it keep it up and win Raihan the match?!"
"That was brutal." said Sam.
"He can still win!" said Gloria.
Back in Royal Woods, everyone was still watching Lincoln's match against Raihan.
"Not good." said Luan.
"Lincoln still has three Pokemon he can use to take down that Duraludon!" said Lynn Jr.
"I hope he can do it." said Lori.
Back in Hammerlocke Stadium, Lincoln was returning his Alolan Sandslash to his pokeball.
"You were great, buddy." said Lincoln.
"Lincoln has three Pokemon remaining!" said the announcer. "What will he use next?!" Lincoln takes another pokeball off his waist and tosses it, releasing his Lucario. "And Lincoln's next Pokemon is a Lucario! Can it take down Duraldon?!" Just then, the rain stopped.
"Looks like Rain Dance wore off." said Raihan.
"Well, that won't stop me!" said Lincoln. "Gyarados, use Crunch; Lucario, use Power-Up Punch!" said Lincoln. His Gyarados moves towards the Gigantamaxed Duraldon and bites down on it, dealing damage, and lowering its defense; and Lucario leaps up at Duraldon with a fist coated with orange energy and punches it in the face; a surge of power rises up from Lucario.
"Duraldon, use Max Rockfall on Gyarados!" said Raihan. Duraldon roars as a giant slab of stone rises up and starts to fall towards Gyarados.
"Lucario, use Aura Sphere on that attack!" said Lincoln. Lucario leaps in front of Gyarados while gathering energy into a blue orb and throws it at Duraldon's attack, breaking through and destroying it, and hitting Duraldon in the face, making the energy in it explode as it falls onto its back and returns to its normal size, unconscious.
"Duraldon is unable to battle. Lucario and Gyarados are the winners. The winner of the match is the Gym Challenger, Lincoln Loud!" said the official.
"Lincoln's done it!" said the announcer. "After an intense battle, his Pokemon have defeated Raihan's and earned himself the victory!"
"He did it!" said Leni.
"The spirits told me that he would." said Lucy.
"I'm so glad he won." said Gloria.
Back at the Loud house, everyone was celebrating Lincoln's victory.
"He won!" said Lori.
"Yay, Wincoln!" said Lily.
"We're so proud of him!" said Lynn Sr.
Back in Hammerlocke, Raihan was returning his Duraldon to its pokeball.
"Take a good rest." said Raihan. He puts the pokeball back on his waist before walking over to Lincoln who was being nuzzled by his Gyarados. "Congratulations on defeating me, Lincoln."
"Thank you." said Lincoln. Raihan reaches into his pocket and pulls out a badge with the image of a bluish-purple dragon on it.
"As proof of your victory, I present you with the Dragon Badge." said Raihan. He hands the badge, along with some pokedollars, to Lincoln.
"Awesome!" cheered Lincoln!
Later, in the stadium lobby, Lincoln's sisters and friends watch as Lincoln inserts his new badge into a metal ring with his other badges and they all formed into a single medallion.
"That's all eight badges." said Lincoln.
"That's so awesome." said Clyde.
"And we'll be getting our Dragon Badges soon." said Ronnie Anne. Just then, Lincoln feels a pair of arms drape over his shoulders, making him and blush when he sees Gloria.
"Hello, cutie." said Gloria.
"H-Hey, Gloria." Lincoln stuttered.
"I went to the Isle of Armor like you said and got the Max Soup for my Inteleon." said Gloria as she nuzzles Lincoln's face, making his blush intensify, and Ronnie Anne growl.
"That's great." said Lincoln.
"Here's a little thank you for helping me." said Gloria before she kisses Lincoln on the cheek, making his face turn red, his sisters giggle, and Ronnie Anne growl.
"HEY!" a voice that Lincoln recognized called out, making everyone look to see Marnie storming over to them with Team Yell following after her.
"Who's that?" asked Gloria.
"That's Marnie." said Lana, making Gloria glare at the approaching girl.
"Don't kiss my Lincoln!" said Marnie.
"Yeah, he's Marnie's!" said a Team Yell member.
"Says who?" asked Gloria.
"Say's ME!" said Marnie before she pulls Lincoln away from Gloria before kissing him on the lips, making Lincoln's face turn red, and Gloria and Ronnie Anne growl.
"Oh, yeah?!" said Gloria as she pulls Lincoln back towards her and kisses him on the lips as well. She and Marnie pull and kiss Lincoln while everyone watches.
"If Rusty saw this, he'd be jealous." said Clyde.
"I'll bet." said Lola; an official walks over to the group.
"Who will be challenging Raihan next?" asked the official.
"I think I will." replied Clyde, stepping forward.
"Once you change into your Gym Uniform and when you're ready, report to the vault where you will do the Gym Test." said the official.
"Got it." replied Clyde. Minutes later, Clyde walks out of the changing room in his uniform and begins heading to the Hammerlocke vault.
Lincoln has earned his final gym badge and is currently caught in another struggle. Now his sisters and friends aim to earn their Dragon Badges. Can they do it? Wait and find out.
