Back in Ambrette Town
Lincoln and his friends continue walking down Route 8 on their way to Cyllage City where Lincoln's next gym battle awaits him. As they walked, Lincoln stops and looks at a grassy area he remembers.
"What is it, Lincoln?" asked Trevor.
"This is where I caught Bagon." replied Lincoln.
"Wow." replied Shauna. They suddenly hear rustling coming from the grass; a yellow, bipedal, weasel-like Pokemon with red arms, legs, and tail tip jumps out of the grass. Shauna takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Mienfoo, the Martial Arts Pokemon. It takes pride in the speed at which it can use moves. What it loses in power, it makes up for in quantity." said Shauna's pokedex. Shauna takes out a pokeball.
"I'm catching this one; Butterfree, go!" said Shauna, throwing her Butterfree's pokeball and releasing her. The Mienfoo claps its hands, releasing a shockwave that hits Butterfree, dealing damage, and causing it to flinch.
"That looked like Fake Out." said Trevor. Mienfoo sits on the ground and becomes surrounded by a white aura.
"Butterfree, use Confusion!" said Shauna. Butterfree's eyes glowed light blue; Mienfoo gets lifted up off the ground and gets slammed onto it, dealing super effective damage. The Mienfoo leaps at Butterfree and pounds her, dealing damage.
"Butterfree, use Gust!" said Shauna. Buttefree flaps her wings and releases a gust of wind from them that hits Mienfoo, dealing super effective damage, and knocking Mienfoo to the ground. Shauna takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Mienfoo, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggled a few times until it clicked. "Yeah; I caught Mienfoo!"
"Good work, Shauna." said Lincoln. Mienfoo's pokeball vanishes and gets transported to storage. Shauna looks up her new Mienfoo's information on her pokedex.
"My Mienfoo's a girl, she knows Pound, Meditate, Detect, and Fake Out; she has the Regenerator ability which restores some of her health when she returns to her pokeball during a battle." said Shauna. She returns her Butterfree to her pokeball and the group continued walking; as they did, Trevor sees a small pit with short pillars of rocks; on a small ledge near the pillars, he sees a small stone that had a leaf on it.
"Wow; a Leaf Stone." said Trevor. He carefully hops on several pillars until he reaches the legde and picks up the Leaf Stone; he then jumps back on the pillars until he reaches his friends.
"So, what are you going to do with that, Trevor?" asked Lincoln.
"If I touch Pansage with it, he'll evolve." said Trevor. He tosses his Pansage's pokeball and releases him. Trevor holds the Leaf Stone towards him. You want to evolve, Pansage?" Pansage hops up, happily.
"I take that as a yes." said Serena. Trevor touches Pansage with it and he begins to glow; he begins to grow. When Pansage stopped glowing, he was bigger, his fur was bushier, his arms were green, he had white fur on his shoulders and over his eyes, and he had a bush-like crest on top of his head. Trevor takes out his pokedex and points it at his newly-evolved Pansage.
"Simisage, the Thorn Monkey Pokemon. It attacks enemies with strikes of its thorn-covered tail. This Pokémon is wild tempered." said Trevor's pokedex.
"Congratulations, Trevor." said Serena. Trevor returns Simisage to his pokeball and the group continued walking; they soon arrived at Ambrette Town.
"It's been a while since I've been here." said Lincoln. "Let's look around; never had a chance to since I was recovering from the boating accident." The group began walking around Ambrette Town, looking around; they were approached by a woman.
"Are any of you kids Pokemon trainers?" asked the woman.
"Yeah, why?" asked Serena. The woman reaches into a bag she was carrying and pulls out what appeared to be a disk.
"What is that?" asked Tierno.
"That would be a Technical Machine, or TM for short." replied Trevor. "They each contain a move that can be taught to a Pokemon that they can't learn through battle experience."
"Cool." said Lincoln.
"This TM contains a move called Rock Smash." said the woman. "Would you kids like it? I have no need for it."
"Sure." said Lincoln. The woman gives Lincoln the TM and walks away. Lincoln looks at the TM. "So, how do I use this?"
"You insert the TM into your pokedex and select one of your Pokemon to use the TM on." replied Trevor. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and puts it into his pokedex; he then uses the TM on his Bagon and Lucario. Lincoln puts his pokedex away and the group continued looking around. "You know; some people have Pokemon use Rock Smash on certain rocks because sometimes, there's valuable items underneath them.
"Cool." said Lincoln.
Moments later, the group was looking at a large building.
"I know what this place is; it's the Ambrette Town Fossil Lab." said Trevor. "They have a lot of Pokemon fossils in it; can we check it out?"
"Sure; I'm sure the gym will still be in Cyllage City, so my gym battle can wait." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said Trevor. The group then enters the lab. Moments later, the group were looking at fossils. "Wow, this is so amazing."
"Hello." the group hears someone calling out to them. They looked to see a man in a lab coat walking over to them. "Are you kids enjoying the fossil lab?"
"You bet." replied Trevor.
"If you want to see something really amazing, come with me." said the man. Looking at each other, the group follows the man until they reached what appeared to be a storage locker; the man opens it, revealing coats inside.
"I'm going to ask you kids to put these coats on; trust me, it's cold where I'm taking you." said the scientist. The group each grabs a coat from the man and put them on. Moments later, the group and the man stood in front of a large doorway; he opens it, revealing what appeared to be an indoor forest with snow all around.
"Why do you keep it cold in here?" asked Serena. The group suddenly sees a light blue, quadrupedal Pokemon with a long neck, and a sail-like structure above each of its eyes. Tierno takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Amaura, the Tundra Pokemon. This ancient Pokémon was restored from part of its body that had been frozen in ice for over 100 million years." said Tierno's pokedex.
"You see; we keep it cold in here because the Amauras and the Auroruses survive only in cold temperatures." said the scientist.
"Auroruses?" asked Lincoln. A large, blue Pokemon with a light blue underside, a pair of sail-like structures going down the back of its long neck, and crystals on parts of its body, walks over to the Amaura. Serena points her pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Aurorus, the Tundra Pokemon and the evolved form of Amaura. The diamond-shaped crystals on its body expel air as cold as -240 degrees Fahrenheit, surrounding its enemies and encasing them in ice." said Serena pokedex.
"Cool." said Lincoln.
"Where did these Pokemon come from?" asked Shauna.
"We revived the Amauras from a Sail Fossil." replied the scientist.
"You can actually bring fossilized Pokemon to life?!" asked Lincoln.
"Yes; we have the technology to do so." replied the scientist.
"That is so cool." said Tierno.
"My sister, Lisa, would have a field day in this lab." said Lincoln; he looks down with a sad look on his face from mentioning his second youngest sister.
"Wow; I wish we had fossils to revive." said Trevor.
"If you kids want to try to find fossils, there's a cave east of Ambrette Town called Glittering Cave." said the scientist.
"Can we check it out; maybe there's Pokemon we haven't seen yet in there." said Trevor.
"I guess we can check it out tomorrow; it is getting a little late." said Lincoln.
"And I am getting hungry." said Tierno.
"I guess I can wait." said Trevor. Moments later, the group leaves the fossil lab and began walking to the Ambrette Town Pokemon Center.
The next morning, after breakfast, the group exits the Pokemon Center. They walked east until they reached a path that was covered with sharp-looking rocks.
"How are we suppose to get to Glittering Cave without hurting our feet?" asked Shauna.
"You can ride on these." said a man nearby, pointing at several, quadrupedal Pokemon with gray stone skin and a horn on the end of their noses. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at one of the Pokemon.
"Rhyhorn, the Spikes Pokemon. Strong, but not too bright, this Pokémon can shatter even a skyscraper with its charging Tackles." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"You'll really let us ride these?" asked Serena.
"Sure; I alway have travellers wanting to get to Glittering Cave; that where you kids are going?" asked the man.
"You bet." said Tierno. He climbs onto one of the Rhyhorn, Lincoln and Shauna climb onto another, and Serena and Trevor climb onto one; Shauna wraps her arms around Lincoln's waist, making him blush. The group began riding the Rhyhorns down the path.
"This definitely beats walking down this path." said Lincoln.
"I'll say." said Shauna. As they rode down the path, Tierno sees a small, tan, hippo-like Pokemon with brown patches on its body, walking by.
"That Pokemon doesn't seem to be bothered walking on this path." said Tierno as he takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Hippopotas, the Hippo Pokemon. It lives in arid places. Instead of perspiration, it expels grainy sand from its body." said Tierno's pokedex. Tierno takes out a pokeball.
"I'm catching this one." said Tierno. "Squirtle, go!" He throws Squirtle's pokeball and releases him onto a large rock on the path to avoid him stepping on the sharp stones. "Squirtle, use Bubble!" Squirtle releases bubbles from his mouth and they hit Hippopotas, dealing super effective damage. The Hippopotas charges at Squirtle. "Use Withdraw!" Squirtle tucks his limbs and head into his shell before Hippopotas rams him, but not dealing much damage; Squirtle falls from the rock; he reaches an arm out of his shell and grabs a part of the rock, narrowly avoiding the sharp rocks on the path.
"That was close." said Lincoln. Squirtle climbs back on the rock.
"Squirtle, use Water Gun!" said Tierno. Squirtle fires a stream of water from his mouth and it hits Hippopotas, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it to the ground. Tierno takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Hippopotas, hitting it and sucking it in; it wiggled a few times until it clicked. "Yeah; Hippopotas is mine!"
"Way to go, Tierno!" said Lincoln. Tierno takes out his pokedex to look up Hippopotas' information.
"This says Hippopotas is a boy, he knows Tackle, Sand Attack, Bite, and Yawn; he has the Sand Stream ability which creates a sandstorm when he comes into battle." said Tierno. His pokedex suddenly chimed. "Hey; this says my Squirtle learned Bite." Squirtle suddenly began to glow.
"Hey, Squirtle's evolving." said Trevor. Squirtle began to change shape; when the glowing stopped, Squirtle was now a regular shade of blue, he had feather-like ears covered in pale blue fur, and a thick, wavy tail covered in light blue fur. Tierno points his pokedex at his newly-evolved Squirtle.
"Wartortle, the Turtle Pokemon, and the evolved form of Squirtle. When tapped, this Pokémon will pull in its head, but its tail will still stick out a little bit." said Tierno's pokedex.
"Congratulations, Tierno." said Lincoln. Tierno returns Wartortle to his pokeball and the group continued riding down the path; when they reached a part of it that didn't have sharp rocks and lead to a cave entrance, they climbed off the Rhyhorns.
"This must be the place." said Shauna.
"I can't wait to see what we find in here." said Lincoln.
"Me, too." said Trevor.
"Let's go inside then." said Serena as she and the others walk into the cave.
