Chapter 2: It Probably Is

Later that evening, Chris and Jill were waiting for Ethan to get back so they could have dinner.

"What's taking him so long?" Jill asked.

"He probably got distracted and lost track of time." Chris said.

At that moment, Ethan walked back in.

"There you are!" Jill said, happy to see him.

"Come on in. Dinner's all ready!" Chris said, happy to have his family with him for dinner.

Ethan sat down at the dinner table, ready to dig in to his lobster and fries.

After dinner, Jill noticed the PokeBalls in Ethan's bag.

"Ethan, what did you buy?" Jill asked.

"I bought two Magikarp." Ethan said with a smile.

Chris and Jill looked at him with a puzzled expression.

"Magikarp?" Jill asked.

"Yeah, it's a gold mine!" Ethan said before he proceeded to explain what the vendor had told him, "Even their PokeBalls are solid gold!"

Chris took a close look at the PokeBalls and said, "I hate to break it to you, but they're just gold-plated."

Ethan looked surprised, but quickly recovered, "Well, with the money we make, we can buy them actual golden PokeBalls." he said.

Chris then looked at the sets that Ethan received and saw the preservation set was just a bunch of plain old plastic bags, and the shedding set was actually just one of those things people use for scraping off dry skin.

"Ethan, something tells me these Magikarp aren't what you were told." Chris said before he tasted some of the 'Magikarp magic chow', and…

"This tastes just like regular Pokemon food. Nothing special about it." Chris said.

Ethan then looked shocked, "Does this mean I was lied to?" he asked.

Jill then thought about something, "Ethan, how did you get the money for these?" she asked.

"Well, it was $30 and my allowance didn't quite cover it, so I…" Ethan said.

"So you did what?" Jill asked.

"I used some of the advance on your salary." Ethan said with a cheery attitude, not understanding the gravity of the situation.

Chris looked wide-eyed while Jill tried not to yell.

"Ethan." Jill said.

"Yeah?" Ethan said.

"You'd better find a way to make that $10 back, or you'll be grounded when we get home." Jill said.
