Chapter 20: Wishes Do Come True
Tien, Yamcha, Chi Chi and Dende stared up at the behemoth before them. Although the three Earthlings had seen Shenron before, they couldn't help but be amazed. It seemed as if the Namekian dragon was even larger than their own.
"I am the Eternal Dragon, speak child and I will grant your first wish." It declared, its voice shaking the surface of the planet for miles around.
Dende was silent for a moment before speaking up. It was the first time, in his small life, he had never seen a creature as large as the eternal dragon. It was an intimidating task to be sure. He turned back to Tien one last time to confirm the first wish he was to make. When the three eyed warrior nodded he turned back and made the wish. "Please, Porunga, bring back to life the being known as Piccolo." He asked the colossus in front of him.
Porunga was silent for a moment before responding, "It shall be done." His eye's glowing red for a second before he spoke again, "It has been done, what is your second wish."
"We wish that you bring Piccolo to planet Namek to help us." Dende quickly said, "It shall be done." His eyes glowed again. "What is your final wish?"
"Wait where is he?" Yamcha asked looking around for the green ally they just used a wish to bring to then.
"I'm not sure, you for-sure wished him to come here right." Tien asked since he couldn't understand what Dende has said before.
"Yes I wished for the one known as piccolo to be brought...to...Namek..." His words trailing off at the end as he realized his mistake. "Oh no he could be anywhere on the planet!" He exclaimed.
"It's ok he'll find us. Though it's weird I can't even feel him." Tien responded. As he reached out with his senses, a troubling thought crossing his mind.
Before he could form it to words though the dragon interjected himself into the conversation. "I am losing my patience, make your third and final wish and I will grant it if it is within my power."
Dende turned to face the mystic being once more before another voice cut in "I wish for all living Saiyans to be immortal!" as everyone turned to see the newcomer.
Nappa stood there his face beaming with victory. "That's right you shits, I'm immortal."
"Dende wish Frieza dead or somewhere else we'll hold him off!" Tien shouted back before igniting his Kaioken up to times three.
Nappa was taken aback. Not only did his wish not appear to work for some reason but also because of the massive rise in all three earthlings powers since the fight with the Ginyu force. It was as if they had gotten massive Zenkais, reviving the Saiyan's original theory about the humans.
Now, somehow, anyone of the humans could crush him one on one; let alone all three of them. He slowly began to back away, much to the surprise of the humans, unsure of the Saiyan's strategy.
The general decided maybe this situation warranted a different tactic than he normally used. Taking a deep breath he began speaking, "Look you need to wish us Saiyans immortal. It's the only real chance any of us have of beating Frieza." He tried to reason, using all of his will power to sound reasonable.
"Hell no! Goku's doing just fine against that monster and-" Chi Chi suddenly realized she couldn't feel Goku's power anymore. "Goku?" She said quietly eyes wide in horror.
Tien and the others reached out with their senses as well unable to sense Goku or Frieza.
Immediately Nappa had a bad feeling. "Please make the wish hurry." He implored them. "If we are immortal, any damage he does to us will only make us stronger! We'll be able to defeat him eventually." He argued. A benefit the humans knew they themselves didn't bring to the table.
"Well I don't-" Tien started to respond still suspicious, before Yamcha cut him off. "Don't even think about it Tien they'll kill us as soon as they beat Frieza."
Tien was taken slightly aback by Yamcha's sudden forwardness. "I know I was-" he was cut off by a loud cracking sound. His eyes turning back to Nappa before widening in horror. The other two human's reactions were slightly slower but their faces shown with a similar terror.
Standing not even a dozen feet away was a creature bearing a vague resemblance to Frieza. Its silver tailed wrapped around Nappa's clearly broken neck, an occasional twitch the only sign he was still alive. What really caused them horror though was the power the creature was putting out. It was unlike anything they had ever felt before!
"Why hello again, I believe you have something that belongs to me." He said with an evil smirk.
"Wait please come back!" Master Roshi pleaded crawling on hands and knees as again the last female trainee at his boot camp finished loading her bags.
"And why the hell would I do that!" She shouted furious with herself for putting up with the old man's pervish antics as long as she had.
Master Roshi stood up, adjusted his glasses, and took on a shocking calm demeanor for a moment. Seemingly weighing his next words carefully. Finally he spoke "'Cause you have the hots for me! Come here sugar!" He shouted lunging forward to grip her in a bear hug.
His impromptu attack was cut short to a vicious haymaker to his cheek as he landed face first in the mud. "Of all the womanizing assholes I've had to deal with in my life you are by far the worst. Eat shit!" She shouted forming a small Ki ball and firing right into his ass, causing him to give a satisfying yelp when it hit. She then hurriedly entered her hover plane and flipped the whole island the bird as she left.
Master Roshi watched her go slightly confused but as confident as ever, "Boy she's a feisty one." He mumbled to himself as Bora and Sgt. Caspin approached the Turtle Hermit, their heads hung in defeat. They had done everything they could to protect her and the last few other female fighters brave enough to not heed the previous classes' warnings. But to no avail, not only was Master Roshi still faster than either of them, his determination knew no bounds.
Master Roshi watched the sky a second longer before turning to the dozen or so students that had survived so far, all of which had similar looks on their faces as Bora and the Sergeant. Except Hercule who was in the process of trying to distract his daughter from his Master's latest display of vulgary.
"What do all of you look so down about? She'll be back soon. I guarantee it. She's just playing hard to get." He explained with his trademarked pervish laugh, though no one bought it.
The sounds of a jet copter were again heard much to everyone's surprise, "See I told-" His gloating was cut short as the vehicle heading towards the island was definitely not the one that had just left. "Hmm, now who could that be?" He asked himself quietly, instead of finishing his previous statement.
His question was answered a moment later as the sleek, new vehicle landed. An old man with a cigarette in his mouth, with a black cat on his shoulder, exited with a friendly look on his face. "Hello there Master Roshi." He said excitedly, though the reason for his excitement was not exactly evident.
"Good to see you again Prof. Briefs. To what do I owe this pleasure" He asked momentarily forgetting his most recent rejection.
"Well I actually am here to deliver something to a Mr. Bora." He said his excitement not wavering in the slightest as he scanned the small crowd in front of him for anyone who looked like their name could be Bora.
This caught the guardian of the land of Korin off guard, his widening eyes betraying his surprise. "Wait, me? I am sorry sir but I do not think we have met." He explained leaning on his crutch trying to figure out what this odd man could've come all the way out here to deliver to him. Besides, he had actually only been allowed out of the hospital a few days ago, so how did this man know he was here to begin with.
"Oh I am sorry, I suppose more proper introductions are in order." He said his disposition as friendly as ever, "I am Dr. Briefs; you may be familiar with my daughter Bulma." He said reaching his hand out for a formal handshake, though such formality seemed strange to him for some reason.
"Oh, Uh, yes I have met Bulma a few times. It is nice to meet you." He awkwardly responded not any more sure of why he had this unexpected visitor.
Dr. Briefs stood there silently for a minute continuing the odd pace of the conversation so far, before he spoke again, "I am sure you are wondering why I might be visiting you today but I think you will like the surprise I have." He suddenly blurted out before reaching for his pocket and pulling out a capsule.
Everyone's curiosity was immediately aroused as they took a step forward. As he pushed the button, a cloud of smoke exploding on the ground where the small device landed. What appeared out of it simply confused everyone more, a guitar sized case of some sort.
Dr. Briefs stood there smiling brightly for a second before realizing no one had any clue what was in the container. "Oh I'm sorry, here we go." He said opening it up and revealing the last thing any of them thought they would see. A large, advanced looking, mechanical leg.
Everyone stared at it for a moment before its significance became evident to them. Bora was the most shocked of the group by far. A small smile appeared on his face, "Thank you very much Mr. Briefs but I am not sure I can accept this. I am a fighter and this device, although it looks well-constructed, I am not sure if it will hold up to the rigors of combat."
"Yes I am aware of your life as a fighter so I developed it specifically to be much more durable than normal prosthetics. Test it out if you wish, let's see if it holds up the way you want to." The eccentric old man said with a bright, confident smile.
Bora was about to respond when another voice cut in, "Hello, Master Roshi?" It was an odd nasally voice but one the Turtle Hermit and the other two veteran fighters were familiar with.
After a moment of thought Master Roshi realized who it was, "This is King Kai again isn't it?" He asked out loud incase the others couldn't hear the voice.
"Yes, you got me. But there is no time for more formal introduction to the rest of you. Piccolo has been wished back. Kami's assistant Mr. Popo is already searching for the Earth's Dragon Balls. I need you all to start a search of your own to speed things up as much as possible. Things are getting bad on Namek." A concerned atmosphere fell over all gathered.
"We'll start looking immediately." Master Roshi said, before turning to Dr. Briefs, "Do you happen to know whether Bulma has any spare Dragon radars?" He asked knowing his task would be nearly impossible without the item.
"Hmm... Actually yes. I think she keeps one in the glove compartment." He said before heading back to his chopper and digging in the car for a few moments, before emerging with an older version of the dragon radar. "Will this do?"
"Yes thank you." Master Roshi said as he dropped his shell preparing to begin his search.
"Master Roshi may I make a suggestion?" Bora suddenly spoke up stopping the turtle hermit, who immediately had an idea about what he would say, his bionic leg already partially on.
"If you want to be the one to search then be my guest, it'll be a good test run for the leg I suppose." Master Roshi said rubbing his beard, surprising his student at his perceptiveness.
He quickly received a crash course on using the radar, "Thank you Master, I won't let you down." Within a matter of seconds he was already a dot disappearing into the distance
Master Roshi turned to his other students, and got them back to work. If things were going bad on Namek they could be called upon to defend the Earth sooner rather than later, and he for one wanted to be prepared.
Without any sign of real emotion Frieza tossed Nappa's body aside. The three humans still just stood shocked as the silver and purple being took a step towards them. As Dende darted behind a large boulder off to the right, Frieza made no move to stop him, his eyes locked on the last three beings between him and immortality.
"You know, you three have proven nearly as useful as you have frustrating." He said calmly, excitement filling every atom of his body. "I'll be sure to repay you all by making you three the first kills to celebrate my rebirth as the immortal emperor of the universe." His laugh so spine chillingly cold that goose bumps began to rise on the skin of the last three beings between Frieza and his prize.
Chi Chi pushed her fear for her own wellbeing aside for a moment as she stepped forward, her voice filled with the rage on a mother bear, as she took a step forward, "WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY GOKU!" She shouted.
Frieza's head tilted sideways momentarily before a bone-chillingly cruel smile slowly spread across his face, "My, my, my, so you were that foolish monkey's mate after all." A slight chuckle escaping Frieza's lips before he took a more dignified stance, "Then it is quite unfortunate that I must inform you of your mate's untimely demise." His eye's slating slightly as he finished ready for the sweet emotional release he could see building under her surface, the news taking a moment to digest.
Finally she snapped, she pushed her body to its absolute breaking point, Kaioken times 10, and rushed forward prepared to unleash the fury of a twice widowed woman on her more recent widow-maker.
Frieza simply dodged flurry after flurry of attacks, Chi Chi's movements nothing more than slow motion to the Tyrant. Who, after just a moment grew tired of the game, as his hand shot out, gripping her neck tightly. He was almost giddy with the thought of using the same mental torture on Chi Chi that he had on Goku.
Before any more moves could be made though, a great roar shook the landscape, all eyes moving immediately to the Monstrous Dragon, as it was quickly enveloped in light the 7 Dragon Balls shooting to the sides and dropping to the ground, nothing more than rocks.
No one could move for a moment. Frieza's grip slowly loosened, eventually allowing Chi Chi to drop to the ground, coughing violently as he hands rushed to her throat. Finally the significance of what just happened broke through the wall of shock keeping the emperor immobile. "What...What just happened?" He asked quietly, when no one answered he shouted, "WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED!" He took a threatening step forward, catching both Yamcha and Tien's attention, "WHO DID THAT!"
Both Tien and Yamcha were shocked silently. The possibility that Guru would end his own life to avoid Frieza getting his wish had never crossed their mind, things seemed to be going so well it didn't need to. But that is exactly what it seems happened. Now the only thing left to do was bite the bullet. Tien turned to face Frieza, "The Dragon is gone, his owner is dead. Yo-" He was cut off from finishing his sentence, Frieza's hand had lashed up so quickly no one even saw it moving, as smoke began to pour out of what was once Tien's third eye. The ex-crane student dropped quietly to the ground, undoubtedly dead.
"NO! NO! NO!" Frieza shouted ignoring the other two fighters for a moment, as he began to throw a tantrum, "This can't be happening. I was so close...I could taste my immortality. How? Why?"
Suddenly an idea struck him and it sent a cold shiver down his spine. The events of the last few minutes washing over him, blasting a hole in that annoying Namekian warrior's stomach, and the owner of the Dragon Balls just dying. "No...It can't be...was...was that fool actually the owner of the Dragon Balls?" he asked himself, his voice barely above a whisper. It made sense; that was the only thing that should've been still dying, by his hand at least.
What followed next was among the most terrifying event either Chi Chi, Yamcha, or Dende had ever experienced. A scream so blood curdling, with so much power behind it, that the whole planet felt like it was going to shake apart. For a moment, for just a brief second Frieza's true power started to revealed itself.
Yamcha and Chi Chi just stood there horrified for a moment, both backing away from the tyrant. 'I'm going to die...I'm actually going to die, and then Chi Chi is going to die, and then Bulma is going to die, and Piccolo is going to die and when Piccolo dies we won't be able to come back!' His mind was going a mile a second trying to come to grip with his fate.
Suddenly the ex-bandit turned to Chi Chi, a strange look on his face. "Chi Chi...tell Bulma I love her." He wasn't sure he actually felt this though, it just felt as if it needed to be said. As soon as Chi Chi nodded in response, his aura flared over himself, and he launched himself at the still raging Frieza.
Chi Chi just stared on, unsure what he was planning. Before Frieza even knew what was happening, Yamcha had wrapped Frieza's torso up and begun to yell as he raised his Kaioken to levels he didn't think was possible. Frieza became aware of the slight sensation of someone touching him after just a second but as he looked down to see who would be so foolish, Yamcha was already nearing his limits.
His body began to expand as he used more and more of his power to keep himself from failing catastrophically, 'Just need another secon-' His struggle ended dramatically, the force of his explosion unlike any attack ever witnessed on the planet before, everything on the island was swept away, Chi Chi was flung into the air caught up in the sheer force of the explosion. It took everything she had to avoid being disintegrated in the attack that was supposed to save her.
Chi Chi dropped to the ground, panting, on the nearest island that was still somewhat intact. She watched as the smoke slowly beginning to settle. Suddenly she realized that she had forgotten about Dende. Her eyes opened in terror as she frantically began to scan the surrounding landscape for any signs of the Namekian child.
Suddenly, a sound stopped her search, fear bubbling up within the pit of her stomach, as a scream of agony and rage shook the landscape. Frieza floated just above the collapsing wall of water, his back singed by the blast, his rage reaching new heights. 'That...insolent...worthless...fucking...TRASH!' The rage just kept building, he needed to kill something, slowly and painfully. His eyes locked on Chi Chi's frozen form.
Before she had any time to react, Frieza was in front of her again, "Hello there." He snarled before embedding his knee into her abdomen, blood immediately shot from her mouth. Before her shocked body had even stopped moving upwards she was quickly back handed her body protesting loudly under the blow. Then another, and another, as the blows began to rain down; Frieza getting into his groove.
Pain just continued to rack her body for what seemed like forever. Suddenly the blows stopped though. She tried to force an eye open but she barely managed to open her left eye; her face was too swollen to open her right at all. She was a bloody, bruised mess. Frieza stood over her, a vicious look on his face, "Yes that's right. Look upon your death like your husband did, and like your son will." He was beginning to calm down some as he watched a singular tear roll down her cheek.
"Yes, give into the hopelessness, there is nothing you can do, I-" Frieza's near manic passed speech was abruptly cut off as a fist collided with his cheek sending him flying across the surface of the planet.
He was sent flying for a second, his flight came to a quick stop with his hand reaching up and rubbing his cheek slightly before sending a glare back at his latest ambusher. Only for his eyes to open in shock, standing over the Saiyan's mate was non-other than the Monkey brute he had just finished off a moment ago.
"Yeah Frieza that's right! You'll find I'm harder to kill than that!" Nappa shouted, although at the moment he didn't quite feel the bravado he was showing. His power had skyrocketed, but he wasn't a fool. It wasn't quite enough to beat Frieza, even without knowing the full extent of the power the frost demon had just displayed he would've been out matched.
As he took in this sight, an unpleasant thought worked its way into his mind, 'No...Is he...' His eyes taking on a mad look again, "You filthy, stupid, worthless monkey! YOU STOLE MY IMMORTALITY!" He shrieked before launching himself back into Nappa, his fist embedding itself into his chest, ribs breaking instantly under the force.
Chi Chi struggled to sit herself up, trying to get an idea on what was happening. She couldn't even open her eye a sliver a moment ago. Nor could she focus on sensing energy, pain filled her every cell, her entire system was being overwhelmed by it.
Suddenly she felt a small amount of relief coming from her left and slowly spreading throughout her body. It only took a moment before she was able to begin to open her eyes again. She turned her still aching head to the left and saw a sweating and straining Dende trying to heal her still mangled body. He was trying to say something, but she couldn't hear a thing still, something was wrong with her ears apparently.
She could see the visible booms all around her though, some intense fighting was going on somewhere, who was fighting she didn't have a clue, she was just thankful for their interruption.
Nappa was not happy with how things were going right now. He owed the Namekian child for healing him, it was the only reason he agreed to help the last Earthling warrior, but he was quickly coming to realize that the price of his distraction would be his life. As another bone shattering blow broke through his unsustainable guard. Hitting his broken rib yet again, blood spewing from his mouth.
"Come on Saiyan, let's see how long that immortality of yours lasts." Frieza shouted madness completely clouding all sense of sanity from his mind as he continued to pound away at the giant.
Nappa finally managed to block a punch only to take a slash from Frieza's tail, causing him to rocket back towards the ground. He hit with the force of a small asteroid, his entire body feeling the beating he was taking.
He quickly tried to right himself, as he forced himself out of the crater he had just formed, surprised by the lull in the conflict. His surprise instantly turned to fear as he looked up seeing a massive orange ball of energy expanding out from Frieza's extended index finger. "Now Saiyan, you and this entire miserable planet die." Frieza's voice was absolutely calm as he unleashed his attack.
Nappa watched on in terror as the massive attack made its way towards him, he began to bring all the strength he had left to his arms, preparing to make his final stand for as long as he could.
Just as the attack had closed half the distance between the two, a new unexpected voice called out, "Special Beam Cannon!" A spiraling beam ripped right through the massive ball of energy, causing it to detonate prematurely.
Nappa took the brunt of the explosion, it hurt, but it was nothing compared to the pain he would've felt had the attack connected with him. He quickly turned to thank his savior but what he saw shocked him.
Not only was the Namekian from Earth, the same weakling he had made short work of, standing there, arm still extended. But he was completely calm, in fact a confident smirk on his face as if he was now powerful enough to deflect Frieza's attacks as if they were nothing. But there was something else too, someone else was with him.
Kakarot the Saiyan who had gone to fight Frieza before disappearing was now standing there, his face shining a determination Nappa had never seen on anyone besides Prince Vegeta himself. His eyes burning holes into the shocked Frost Demon in the sky. "Frieza this ends now!"
Culture Shock is officially at 20 chapters! Woohoo! I hope having this chapter come out so early helps everyone with their collective cases of the Mondays. I know this was a short chapter, possibly the shortest by a few dozen words, I'd have to go back and look at chapter 1 to be sure though. I hope everyone gives a huge thank you to MrCamtastic, he did a great job getting the whole thing edited in less than 24 hours.
Now for the bad news, one of the reasons I got this chapter out as fast as I did was because I knew the next two weeks are going to be truly awful so the odds of me being able to get much if any writing done is very low. Because of this I do not expect being able to get another chapter up before the thanksgiving break :(.
But back to the fun stuff, I bet a few people are asking how Tien and company were able to intimidate a Zenkaied up Nappa only going times 3. To backup my claims of their increasing power I will go to the show as evidence. Vegeta specifically says that Krillin and Gohan's power continues to rise from the time Guru unlocks their potential until the fight with Frieza. So I adjusted everyone's power levels accordingly, since it seemed like the power only jumped after combat each time. Krillin went from roughly 20K to probably at least 70,000 by the time the fight against Frieza began.
so
Yamcha 16,000
Chi Chi 15,000
Tien- 20,000
Post combat and healing
Yamcha - 60,000
Chi Chi - 65,000
Tien - 75,000
The Yamcha bomb - Atleast 1,000,000 but no more than 3,000,000 enough to hurt a surprised Frieza at least.
Frieza (2% again)- 2,500,000
Nappa (Before Zenkai) - 95,000
Nappa (post neck-snapping Zenkai) - 2,000,000
Any other questions about power levels don't be afraid to ask. Whether I can answer or not is a different story.
Thanks again for everyone who has reviewed so far, your reviews help push me onward in writing and sometimes speeds me up.
Now for the reviews.
super mystic gohan:
Review: that sorta was expected and unexpected one goku just got a hole blew threw his stomach and he at the water that's going to be really hard for him to come back for sure. now the human will get these wishs hoppfully so then we will enter piccolo time and I got a feeling he will be in for something great! gohan and radits are nearly there but how much off a difference will it make will radits even try and protect him if he gets a attack by freiza until next time
Response: I was hoping for the Goku things to be a little more suspenseful but hey it seemed to be popular either way. He did have a hard time surviving, it'll be a major focus of the next chapter on how he did it. Piccolo will get to have some fun soon don't worry. Yup almost there and the true heart of the action is just picking up. Truly they are insignificant to everything alive on planet namek, besides Dende and Cargo though, so if they make it in time things will be rough.
Guest:
Review: update faster please I love the story.
Response: Glad you like it, was this chapter better?
Chi-Chi's FAN:
Review: You're not making anything feel rushed it's perfect!
(Start gloating you've earned that right)
Keep adding to the excitement why don't you?
I'm starting to feel like Gohan and Raditz interactions are going to become my favorite.
Response: That is good to hear, I am always worried about whether I am hurrying the story too much. I intend for the excitement to continue to pick up, along with my humble gloating lol. Well I hope it is true that you'll continue to enjoy the Gohan/Raditz interactions, you're going to be seeing alot of that soon.
Alright everyone that's all I have today, gotta get started on the pile of homework
