Chapter 25: Death of a Planet

Goku's entire body was tense, expecting the hot fury of the erupting planet to wash over him at any second, sending him to be with his wife once and for all. But, as the seconds dragged on, it seemed as if Frieza had inexplicably failed somehow in destroying the planet.

"Damn, it looks like it's your lucky day Saiyan." Frieza said, his voice without any form of humor. "I appear to have miscalculated on how long it would take this planet to die. Don't worry though, your death is coming one way or another in 5 minutes at best." Frieza said with a slight chuckle, "So, all that's left to decide is whether you'll die by my hands or as the planet does."

Goku smirked, "5 minutes? That's plenty of time to finish you and get off Namek Frieza."

"Why you insolent monkey! Die!" Frieza shouted, tired of being mocked by his foe. He unleashed a dizzying array of blasts at him.

But, just as before, not a single attack could find its mark, prompting Goku to go on the offensive once more.

Both warriors phased out, appearing again, fist extended into their rivals own attack. The shock wave this collision generated sent tidal waves out in all directions.

They stayed locked that way for a moment before Goku was forced to block a wild kick from the Frost Demon with his knee, then another blow aimed at his face, then another and another. Frieza had gone on his own wild offensive for the first time since the legendary transformation had taken place and actually forced the Saiyan backwards.

But, as the Frost Demon pounded away at him, his lack of actual skill began to become apparent again. As he just kept up his wild attack, each attack timed too poorly to actually land but just fast enough that Goku was kept on the defensive.

The towers of power flashed back and forth across the landscape at speeds scarcely imaginable.

A punch here, a kick there, each collision shaking the world around them. Finally, the stalemate was broken as Frieza actually managed to connect a blow that sent Goku rocketing backwards.

"DIE MONKEY!" He shouted and unleashed a massive array of attacks at the reeling Saiyan; the entire sky lit up with purple brilliance.

Goku barely had time to recover and stay ahead of the line of purple destruction hot on his heels. "Stay still you damn monkey!" Frieza shouted as he redoubled his output.

'He's pulling out all the stops this time...' Goku thought to himself as he struggled to stay ahead of the expanding ball of plasma. Around and around he went, in a slow spiral, closing in on Frieza.

'Damn it, why won't he just die!' Frieza inwardly thought, as he struggled to resist the urge to start panting, his stamina beginning to wear down.

Finally, Goku appeared in front of him. His knee extended into Frieza's stomach, causing the Tyrant's eyes to bulge painfully.

The Saiyan from Earth immediately followed the attack up with a blow to the face and a roundhouse kick to his side in rapid succession. This caused the Terror of the galaxy to launch through the sky again.

(Back on Earth)

Bora landed on the lookout next to the just arriving Mr. Popo. "Good you've brought the last of the dragon balls. Please we must hurry." Mr. Popo said as Kami was just now re-emerging from the depth of the lookout.

"Mr. Popo!" Kami greeted, "Please, what is happening?"

Mr. Popo, although excited to see his longtime friend, was forced to ignore him for a moment. "Please Shenron rise!" He shouted before hurriedly turning to explain the situation to the guardian of the Earth. "I'm sorry Kami, King Kai says we need to make this wish now."

"What's wrong? Is there trouble on Namek?" He asked, joining the others as all watched the Eternal Dragon rise.

"I am the Eternal Dragon. You may ask one wish, whatever it is, and I will grant it if it is within my power." The creature boomed, its one year time frame forgotten since its owner had died and been brought back to life its internal clock had been reset.

Mr. Popo knew the plan, now all he needed to do was complete the wish. "Shenron, please bring back everyone who was killed by Frieza and his soldiers."

The dragon floated quietly for a moment before responding, "That is beyond my power. They have killed many trillions over the last few centuries."

"Then please Shenron at least revive all those they have killed in the last year." He requested.

"That is still an extraordinarily large wish...but it is within my power...it shall be done." The dragon boomed, its eyes glowing red, as the wish was granted. All across the galaxy billions of beings long dead suddenly sprang to life. Many to find that their world had new inhabitants, the buyers the Planet Trade Organization had sold their planets too.

Earth too had its own victims brought back to life as East City's population was suddenly restored.

(In Otherworld)

Chi Chi had assumed complete control of the entire operation. She was in the process of interrogating the supposed second in command ogre of the check in station. "Please, I don't know anyway for you to obtain your son's folder early!" He plead as the line of souls was backing up longer than the length of snake way.

"That's it bub, that was your last chance I-" whatever threat Chi Chi was about to shout was cut off as she suddenly vanished from the station.

The small army of Ogre's present cheered loudly as they realized their oppressor was gone, and their lives safe.

King Kai's planet suddenly had its population greatly reduced as Tien and Yamcha both suddenly vanished. As did the members of the blue force still running down Snake way.

"Hey, it looks like the wish was successful." Krillin beamed, only slightly bummed he wasn't able to join the others back in the land of the living.

"Now we just need part two to work." King Kai said, his voice shaky as he attempted to follow Goku and Frieza's ongoing struggle and coordinate the wishes.

(Back on Namek)

The sky darkened almost immediately as the dragon reemerged from its dormancy as soon as its master did. Even though the balls themselves were under the sea.

The great beast rose into the sky, forcing Goku and Frieza to temporarily halt their seemingly endless struggle, each watching it in the distance.

Both fighters took the moment to catch their breaths. The struggle had left its marks on both fighters but it was starting to be clear who was gaining the upper hand.

"The dragon!" Frieza shouted a dark aura enveloping him as he tried to make a break for it.

Goku put a stop to his plan, almost immediately, by delivering a powerful punch to the back of Frieza's head, causing him to crash into the ground temporarily unconscious.

The Saiyan watched his fall knowing the fight wouldn't be over yet.

Vegeta landed, completely out of breath, by the ship he assumed was Kakarot's. He could see a small face peeking from behind the doorway.

"Child, come heal your friend." Vegeta shouted tossing piccolo to the ground.

Seeing Piccolo, Cargo immediately rushed from cover, only to be intercepted by Vegeta at the last moment, "On second thought me first, then him." Vegeta said with a tired smirk.

Bulma looked on disgusted at the Saiyan's selfishness but was too afraid to speak out as the child got to work.

After a few tense minutes, he was done. Cargo let out a tired sigh before immediately moving over to Piccolo and starting the healing process over again.

Vegeta for his part just stared at his hands disappointed, 'My power, it's almost doubled, but against those two...it's nothing.' He let out a quiet growl, 'No I will achieve the legend; I won't let him stop me!' Without uttering another word, he shot into the sky on a collision course with the battling titans again.

"Sheesh! What's his problem?" Bulma muttered in frustration as she made her way over to Cargo. "Is he going to be ok?" She asked her tone taking on a much softer edge.

"I think so...I'm just kind of tired…" Cargo said as the hole finally finished closing in Piccolo's chest.

The larger Namekian slowly sat up, his eyes wide as he remembered the last thing he saw. Immediately his hands rushed to his chest. The hole was gone! Then, he looked to Cargo and everything made sense. "Thanks kid I-" His sentence ended there as the sky suddenly darkened.

"The Dragon!" They all three shouted, realizing what was happening.

'Don't let him get his wish...' Piccolo silently thought knowing he wouldn't be able to reach them in time to make a difference.

(In the pits of hell)

Nappa's suffering was just beginning. The endless wall of ghosts, the sins of his past rushed at him wave after wave, slowly causing him to drift away, deeper into the pits of hell.

"NOOO! DAMN IT! LET ME THROUGH!" He shouted as he struggled to get back up stream. He didn't know how but he could feel his mate and child's energies, they were nearby, but everyone he had ever killed was teaming up to prevent their reunion.

"Out of the way" he shouted as he blasted dozens of the specter to smithereens, but still more came. He couldn't make an inch of headway.

He closed his eyes and summoned one last massive push, and suddenly he felt free, too free actually. He opened his eyes. The sky was dark and in the distance he saw something floating in the air. "What the-...The Dragon?!" He shouted his hands rushing to his chest. His injuries were gone; he was seemingly miraculous healed.

'Was that all a dream? Shit I don't have time for that! I need that wish!' He shot forward with all of his might hoping he would reach the dragon in time to get his wish finally.

Tien and Yamcha desperately clawed their ways to the surface their reborn bodies desperate to take their first breaths.

Finally, both broke the water's edge, panting deeply, filling their renewed lungs with the Namekian air.

The dragon floating near them. "What is your third and final wish little one?" It boomed. It only took the duo a moment to realize who it was speaking to.

He and King Kai had gone over the wish already, the instant his life had been returned to him, he knew what he had to do.

"Please Porunga take everyone except-" He was cut off as Goku landed near him, "Dende, wish for everyone except me and Frieza off the planet. I have some unfinished business with him." Goku said having been told by King Kai the plan he had concocted.

"Are...Are you sure?" Dende asked, concerned that the hero protecting his planet was making a fatal mistake.

"It's alright...I know I can win now." Goku said his voice completely calm.

"Alright, Please Porunga, take everyone from Planet Namek to planet Earth except the ones known as Goku and Frieza." He asked.

"It shall be done!" The mystic creature boomed, its eyes glowing red.

Immediately, all across the planet, the just revived Namekians began to vanish, starting with Dende.

Nappa was just arriving when the wish was made. Everything around him changed instantly as he was suddenly standing in a forest. Within seconds, he was surrounded by hundreds of Namekians. "What the!" He shouted, eyes desperately searching for the dragon, "What happened!" He boomed as Vegeta suddenly popped into existence a short distance away.

"Am I still dead?" Nappa asked himself, wondering if the billions he had killed had concocted some sort of mental torture to keep him busy for all of eternity.

"Nappa! What happened?" Vegeta asked, stunned not only at the strange location he found himself, but also at the fact that his longtime bodyguard was standing before him again.

"Vegeta...I...I don't know..." Nappa stuttered. "What happened after I...after I died?" He asked still unsure whether or not he was having some sort of hallucination.

Vegeta stared at the ground, emotions swirling within him, some of which he still didn't understand. "The low class fool..." He was almost shaking with rage as he tried to keep himself calm enough to finish, "Robbed me of my destiny..." He continued causing the giant to think Frieza had been vanquished. "He achieved the legend..."

Nappa stared at him in disbelief, "You mean Raditz's brother was the legendary Super Saiyan this whole time!" It was too ridiculous to believe.

"No... He wasn't... at least not in the beginning..." Vegeta was trying to come to terms with it still. He was so close but now the honor of avenging their race was beyond his reach. They were obviously on another world. "He became the legend." He finally stated before turning and walking away, he didn't know where he was going but he needed to be alone, he needed to think.

"Hey Vegeta wait-" Nappa started to say as he began to follow him, but one look from Vegeta stopped him in his tracks. The Saiyan Prince then took to the air, looking for someplace quiet.

Nappa watched him go before sitting back down, unsure of what else to do. Everyone else were Namekians and not really anyone he saw as worthy of talking to. That is except one, who was standing a short distance from the rest, arms crossed watching the humans converse with one another. That one Namekian seemed like the one being he could call an equal here at this point so he rose again and made his way over to the green skinned warrior.

"So, Slugman, any idea where we are?" He asked in a boisterous voice.

Piccolo looked up at the giant Saiyan standing next to him with a smirk, 'hn so even he was brought back.' "You should have figured it out by now Saiyan." Piccolo responded, his voice with just a hint of contempt, just to rile up the being who seemed to be trying to become a new rival. "We're back on Earth. Goku is finishing the job on Namek.

Goku stood a few feet away from Frieza as the tyrant came to. His world still spinning as he pushed himself out of the dirt. "It's over Frieza." He stated as Frieza continued to rise. "The dragon and everyone else is gone. It's just the two of us and it's time for me to finish this." Goku said somewhat calmer knowing he had felt Chi Chi among those on the world before they were taken

Frieza continued to look away from him, towards the ground, his chest rising slowly, and evenly. Then a slow chuckle developed, rising to a mad cackle. "Ahahaha! You idiot! You stupid, fucking worthless monkey! Finish me? Finish me! Ahahahaha!" Frieza's rage was peaking higher than it ever had before. So much so that he couldn't keep up the facade of sanity he had so often.

In an instant Frieza's hand shot out attempting another death beam. Goku phased in front of him, his hand crushing the tyrant's wrist like a cardboard tube.

"Don't you get it Frieza, it is over! You have no energy left, you wasted it all. I can beat you without even breaking a sweat at this point." Goku's anger flaring up again as the memories of all of the horrible things the Tyrant had done just to him and his family since their first encounter. "Just give up already!" It was painful to suggest it, so many chances had been given, all of them refused.

"No! I will win, I-" Goku silenced the rest of the Tyrant's rant with a powerful blow to his throat causing him to gag, and stagger backwards.

"Enough! I'm tired of your speeches. I'm tired of giving you second chances. You've taken every offer of peace I've given you and turned it into more pain and suffering for me and my friends. This is the end Frieza, just accept it." Goku snarled, as he cupped his hands.

Frieza's forward's slumped forward, a defeated look on his face, "No...This is impossible…" He muttered to himself, as Goku began his chant, slow and methodical. "Ka...Me...Ha...Me"

Suddenly Frieza broke down, sobbing, "I'm...I'm...Sorry…" he managed between sobs, as Goku's attack began to dissipate.

"He's done so much evil, but if...if he's truly sorry for his crimes then killing him...wouldn't that just make me as big a monster as he is.' Goku inwardly struggled with himself, his desire for revenge battling his pure heart.

Goku stood there, unable to decide on a course of action, his eyes still watching the Frost Demon, but his mind somewhere far away.

Frieza noticed this, the opportunity he had been praying for 'Idiot!' in an instant his hand was out, a beam already fired.

Goku's eyes widened, his body starting to react just as the beam struck him, cutting clean through his body as he launched to the side, a pained yell echoed across the landscape.

"Yes I am sorry that your foolish monkey brain couldn't see through my rouse! AHAHAHA!" Frieza broke into a fit of laughter as he stood over the reeling super Saiyan, who was on hands and knees, one arm wrapped around his injury.

"Now then monkey you dieeeeee..." Frieza's breath escaped from him as he looked down, incredible agony rushing through his entire system as Goku's fist cut right through his torso, rage burning in the Saiyan's eyes.

Frieza's eyes scanned over the Saiyan's body and almost immediately learned his mistake, the Saiyan had managed to move enough that the attack was not fatal. The blast had cut clean through his left shoulder.

"I was going to forgive you!...I was going to let you leave with your life!...but you just had to ruin that didn't you? Why do so many villians like you never accept my offer even when you're beaten? You're done, Frieza." He whispered as he pulled his arm out, charged up a quick Kamehameha wave and fired, rocketing Frieza's body into a crater, a massive explosion detonating at the end.

Goku dropped out of Super Saiyan as he stared down into the crater, panting heavily. Frieza's body was broken. Besides the massive whole in his torso, one arm had been destroyed in the explosion, along with all of one of his legs, and most of the other had been taken with it. His anger had finally been satisfied, but in its wake he could feel nothing but regret and, to a degree, failure. Failure was something that was being forced on him more and more lately. Failure to protect his son, his friends and rivals, his wife. Now , even in victory, he failed. Failed to move a villain from the path of evil like he had so many times in the past.

His fist clenched tightly, 'No, I didn't fail him, he failed himself. I gave him as many chance as I could and he left me no choice.' He reasoned with himself, but he couldn't silence the voice in the back of his head, the voice that always believed he could do anything if he tried hard enough. 'You could've saved him, it didn't have to be this way.' It told him, 'No one is fully evil. You just had to try harder. If you try hard enough anything is possible.' That voice had been such a great weapon in the past, it was the key to his victory. So why did it feel like the blade was slowly turning against him now.

"I'll figure this out later." He mumbled to himself, "I'm almost out of time." Sighing one last time he turned to leave, just as a massive cracking sound shook the planet. This sign of the planet's imminent failure spurred him on as he ignited the little strength he had left with the Kaioken and took off towards his ship.

Within a few minutes he arrived; just in time to see his ship fall into a pit of magma. "No!" He shouted, there was nothing he could do though the ship was melting before he could've closed half the distance.

The thought of failure crossed his mind, 'No, not again, not twice in one day.' He thought to himself, the voice deep within his mind was back to being his own weapon, 'I can do this. How though?' It was then he remembered something, 'Frieza had to come with a ship.' Within a second he had put that piece of information together with the fact that Vegeta had been missing for a long period of time, 'Vegeta had one too, so all I have to do is go to where I felt him for so long.' It was the only chance he had, he powered up again and launched forward, his entire body feeling like it was on fire.

The planet was already starting to break up when he arrived. The ship in question was full of holes; there would be no way he could survive in space in it.

Panic was starting to set in, it seemed like he wasn't going to escape at all, 'No...No...No...I won't fail!' then he saw it, his one last chance to escape, a space pod.

He rushed forward, catching the device just as it started to fall into a chasm. Using the little strength he had left, he lifted it to what he hoped was solid land, then entered the unfamiliar machine.

Within a few seconds he found the right button, and off he went, the planet breaking apart beneath him.

Just as he broke the atmosphere, the planet met its final end, a massive shock wave flowing out in all directions.

Gohan had continued to watch space for a while. In the distance he saw a sudden bright light in the direction they had come from, it peaked, then slowly faded away again. Gohan was almost certain he knew what it was. The planet had actually blown up. A small smile spread across his face, whatever monsters had been fighting on the planet were dead. It was one last thing he would have to be afraid of.

The thought had a calming effect on the child. He finally closed his eyes, ready to sleep. The gas slowly began to fill the chamber, as he shot off towards whatever the universe had to throw at him next.

Happy 1 year anniversary of Culture Shock everyone! I figured what better way to celebrate this huge milestone then to finish the second arc of the story. I hope everyone enjoyed the ride so far, things will only get crazier from here, the real divergence in this story from Cannon can officially begin.

Other notes, Chapter 25 was the shortest chapter ever in the story, 400 words less than the intro chapter, this was for a couple of reasons, first off I reached what seemed like an obvious ending point and second it was all I could manage to write with this 1 week turn around I've done the last couple chapters. This is not a pace I think I can keep up even while on break so I'll see if I can try to do 10 day updates instead for the rest of break instead, I cannot make any promises on that though.

Finally with the end of the Namek arc, we can officially enter into a period of Gohan focus. The next 10 chapters or so will consist of 4 mini arcs 2 focusing on Gohan and 2 focusing on the the rest of the gang. I anticipate the chapter breakdown to be 6 Gohan chapters and 4 on the others, so I hope everyone will be excited about that.

A quick power level update

Goku ssj (start of fight) - 90,000,000

Frieza (start of fight) - 95,000,000

Frieza (exhausted) - 60,000,000

Goku (end of fight) - 85,000,000

Goku really didn't waste much energy with showy massive attacks like Frieza did so he's power level dropped less.

One last note, last chapter broke the record for the most reviews on a single chapter, it was the first chapter to get double digits so I want to thank everyone for that, I was pretty pumped when I realized that.

Yes Chi Chi does have a bit of a crazy streak when it comes to Gohan. That scene was something I could completely imagine happening in the show so I just couldn't resist adding it.

Alright I'm glad Vegeta didn't get it here, however if he did, I think I'd have wanted Goku and Vegeta to have an all out brawl, like in the Buu arc, after they defeat freiza, after all both would have been newly minted super sayians and unable to avoid the challenge, and they aren't exactly allied enough to just not.

It's a little bit of a tease to have Gohan and Raditz orbit Namek but if they aren't suppose to get gohan back at this point it makes a little bit of sense...but then again, why not just have them not show up until Namek goes boom? same overall outcome.

Yeah Vegeta almost made it, that part was actually very important for the story moving forward. It gives Vegeta a grievance to hold against Goku to spark their rivalry since they haven't actually directly fought yet. A brawl would've been great to have in that arc I will admit, we'll have to see if one like that shows up later on down the road ;).

Yeah I knew the orbiting Namek part was a bit of a tease, it wasn't what it was intended to be though. The purpose of that was 2 fold, one for Raditz to assume Vegeta and Nappa are both dead and he is on his own, and two to show Gohan what true power is, i.e. the spirit bomb. Your suggestion would have covered the first of the two points but I needed a way for it to cover the second and ultimately that is why I chose the route I did. I hope you enjoyed this latest chapter though.

Loved the chapter tho for a second there I thought that both would go Ssj kill Frieza then turn on each other or something xD... I'm just mentioning this since I really like this story and don't want it ruined for me by Gohan/Videl to there s thats been indicated that , that's the pairing I just wanted to meation this idea just incase... Maybe Gohan/Female Saiyan OC Android... I was thinking something like a kind of Female version of Cell but with a different mix of the DNA in her... where as Cell has like 40% Icejin/40% Namikean/and 20% Saiyan... she is instead 60% Saiyan/20% Namikean/20% Icejin... I was thinking she would have a slight greenish tone to her skin with Cells tail and tbat shes made to absorb Super Android 13 and Android 16... its only an idea tho... to much Gohan/Videl...

Yeah I was hoping everyone would think there was a chance Vegeta could go ssj, it is one of those things where I have to ask myself "if there isn't at least a bit of doubt to the outcome of something is it as fun?"

As for your second point, I think you've anticipated at least to some degree that the later arcs won't necessarily follow the route shown in the show. As for future pairing, I'm going to have to stay quite on that subject for now, there are alot of things I haven't revealed yet and I don't want to tip my hand too much ;).

Yeah Chi Chi's pulling out some major stops to try to get him back, doesn't get much more extreme than risking eternal damnation lol. Glad you liked the Super Saiyan transformation, that was one of the more fun parts of the arc to write. Glad you agree with the ssj power level idea.

Yeah Vegeta bit back his pride, but it was more of a necessity mixed with shock kind of thing. Whether he continues down that path though we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah Raditz and Gohan never actually managed to land on the planet, they were in orbit around it but Raditz sort of had a panic attack and decided to stay away. I hope you enjoy the gohan focused arcs coming up :).

awesome story so far. read the whole thing in 3 days... while at work but thats besides the point heh heh. wondering what youre doing with gohan and raditz. theyre both totally outclassed at this point by, well, everyone. and damn, for a second i thought you were going to have both Goku and Vegeta reach super saiyan at the same time. that would have been an amazing fight. both the frieza part of it and the unavoidable battle between them

Glad you enjoyed it; that's some serious reading hope your boss didn't catch you lol. Yeah they have been left in everyone else's collective dust at this point, but they'll try to start closing the gap a bit now that they are on their own. Yeah Goku and Vegeta as new Super Saiyans would've been a great sequel battle at the end of the arc, unfortunately it wasn't to be yet. I hope you continue to enjoy the story during your shifts lol.

Super awesome chapter, many epic moments with Goku and Frieza.
I completely love how Chi-Chi took charge with little to no care of King Yemma's threats!
I'm also glad you didn't place Goku's Power level over the billions mark, yet. I may be bad at marking them, but even I have to question stories where Ssj Goku is at or over 100 billion during his battle with Frieza.

Yeah, the kid just can't catch a break right now, mostly me and Raditz's doing though. They are heading somewhere else, but not Yardrat. They are going towards the closest Frieza base for a very specific reason that I cannot reveal yet. Glad you enjoyed the fight, and Chi Chi single-handedly taking over the check in station. Yeah she is willing to risk eternal damnation to save Gohan, unfortunately it didn't prove more fruitful for her.

You've seen Goku versus Frieza in the billions? Wow, yeah that is definately overpowered. Most of the 'official numbers' I've seen has Goku at around 150,000,000 and Frieza at 120,000,000. But Goku is banged up making his number lower to account for the inconsistency of how close the fight was.
