Diglett Tunnel
After Lincoln and Lynn sold the bottle caps they acquired at the Paniola Town's Pokemon Center, the group continues making their way to the site of Lincoln's next Grand Trial: The Ruins of Life.
"I can't wait to face off against Olivia." said Lincoln with an excited tone of voice.
"What Pokemon do you plan on having battle her?" asked Sophocles.
"I'm guessing, by the fact she has a Lycanroc, she specializes in rock type Pokemon." said Lincoln. "Which means that grass, water, ground, fighting, and steel type Pokemon would be best to use against her."
"So you plan on using Gyarados, Trevenant, or Lucario against her?" asked Alola Lana.
"Yeah, but I need to be careful with Gyarados, considering he's part flying type, which means he's vulnerable to rock type moves." said Lincoln.
"But he does have that Intimidate ability, which could make things easier for him." said Kiawe.
"Yeah, but I should still be careful." said Lincoln. "I don't know exactly how powerful Olivia is."
"We only saw her take on Team Skull a while back, and they aren't exactly tough to beat." said Lynn.
"Anyway, we'll see what happens during your Grand Trial, Lincoln." said Shelby.
"And I can also train up my Pokemon on the way." said Lincoln.
"I want to train up my Pokemon for the Pokemon Battle Royale Tournament." said Lynn.
"You definitely want to be ready for Kalani at least." said Kiawe, making Lynn and Mallow frown at the mention of the girl's name.
"Let's keep going." said Shane.
The group soon reaches Heahea City and head for the south gate of it to get to the road that leads to Diglett Tunnel.
"Hey!" a familiar voice, that made everyone groan with frustration, making the group look to see Chandler running over to them.
"Oh, it's you, Chandler." said Lincoln.
"Did you miss me?" asked Chandler with a smug grin.
"No, not with any punch at least." said Lynn with a smirk. Chandler walks over to Lillie and puts his arm around her shoulders, making her uncomfortable.
"So where are you going without me, babe?" Chandler asked Lillie.
"We're going to watch Lincoln do the Akala Island Grand Trial." said Shelby.
"Gonna watch him lose?" asked Chandler, making Lynn punch him in the arm.
"Cuz is no pushover as a trainer." said Shane.
"So what have you been up to today, Larry?" Chandler asked Lincoln.
"First, it's Lincoln." said Lincoln. "And something I did was go to the Poke Pelago to see what my Pokemon found on the Isle Aphun."
"What sort of stuff did they find?" asked Chandler.
"Something to power up my Lycanroc's rock type moves, and a couple bottle caps." said Lincoln.
"HA!" Chandler replied. "They brought you a couple of lousy bottle caps?"
"Figured you'd react that way to them." said Lincoln.
"And just so you know, those bottle caps are way more valuable then you'd think they are." said Shelby. (a/n: Chandler's hardly capable of thought, Shelby; of course, you most likely knew that already.)
"What do you mean?" asked Chandler.
"Each of those bottle caps was worth 30,000 pokedollars!" said Lincoln as he holds out all the cash he recently got, making Chandler's eyes bug out.
"NO WAY!" shouted Chandler.
"Bro's got a whole lot of cash now, chump." said Lynn with a grin.
"W-Whatever." said Chandler. "Anyway, do any of you know where the first regular trial here on Akala Island is?"
"It's on Brooklet Hill." said Lincoln.
"Where's that?" asked Chandler.
"I'll bring you there." said Alola Lana with a sigh. "I am the Trial Captain."
"Sweet." said Chandler. "Oh, before I go, I caught a Pokemon back on Melemele Island; mind telling me what it is, Larry?"
"Fine." replied Lincoln, bitterly. He takes out his Rotom Phone and looks through it. "What does it look like?"
"Like a rock with feet." replied Chandler. After looking through his Rotom Phone, he sees a Pokemon that matches Chandler's description of.
"Is this the Pokemon?" asked Lincoln, showing Chandler the picture of the Pokemon.
"Yep." replied Chandler. Lincoln looks up the Pokemon's information.
"Roggenrola, the Mantle Pokemon. The hexagonal hole is its ear. Deep in that ear is an energy core, so if you stick your hand in there, Roggenrola will be very angry!" said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"This says your Roggenrola's a boy, he knows Tackle, Harden, Sand Attack, Headbutt, and Rock Blast; he has the Weak Armor ability which weakens his defense, but greatly increases his speed when he's hit by an opposing Pokemon's attack." said Lincoln.
"I do like how his name sounds; maybe I'll exchange one of my Pokemon for him." said Chandler. "Well, I better get to Brooklet Hill; got a trial to complete." He then turns towards Lillie. "See ya later, babe." He does an air kiss to her, making her cringe. Everyone else watches as Alola Lana starts leading Chandler to Brooklet Hill.
"Hope he doesn't annoy her too much." said Sophocles.
"Chandler doesn't know that he has to ride a Pokemon during the Brooklet Hill Island Trial, does he?" asked Shiloh.
"Most likely he doesn't." said Lincoln.
"So it'll probably take him forever to complete it." said Shane with a grin.
"That means it'll be a while before we see him again." said Lynn.
"Best news I've heard all day." said Lillie.
"Let's get going." said Lincoln. The group continues on their way until they reach a path leading to a tunnel entrance.
"There's Diglett Tunnel." said Kiawe.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" asked Lynn as she runs towards the tunnel entrance, with everyone following after her.
The group enters Diglett Tunnel and immediately see Olivia, talking to two people in white uniforms.
"Hey, it's Olivia!" said Shiloh. After the female Kahuna finishes talking to the two people, they head off somewhere; Olivia looks towards Lincoln's group, with her eyes widening upon recognizing them.
"Alola, everyone." said Olivia as she runs over to the group.
"Alola, Olivia." said Lincoln.
"What brings you all here?" Olivia asked.
"Lincoln's gonna challenge you to the Grand Trial." said Mallow.
"Has he passed the three Akala Island Trials?" asked Olivia.
"He has." Kiawe replied. Lincoln shows Olivia his Waterium-Z, Firium-Z, and Grassium-Z Crystals.
"Excellent." said Olivia.
"Who were those people you were talking to?" asked Shane.
"They're employees of Aether Paradise." said Lillie. "Sometimes they come to my home to discuss things with my mother."
As the group look around the tunnel, they see a bunch of brown, molelike Pokemon, with two small strands of blonde hair moving through the ground.
"What are those?" asked Lincoln as he takes his Rotom Phone and points it at one of the Pokemon.
"Diglett, the Mole Pokemon. Although it's powerful enough to dig right through volcanic rock, it doesn't allow itself to be seen very often." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"This tunnel is full of them." said Olivia.
"I'm guessing they're what gave this tunnel its name." said Sophocles.
"They're really getting out of hand." said Olivia. "Average trainers can't even get through here."
"We're anything but average!" said Lynn.
"I suppose since Lincoln was able to get the three Akala Island Z-Crystals, then at least he should be able to handle himself.
"We all can." said Shiloh.
"Then I'll see you later at the Ruins of Life, Lincoln." said Olivia as she turns to walk away... only to trip over a rock.
"Not the most graceful Kahuna, is she." said Mallow. Olivia gets up and dusts herself off before continuing on her way.
"Let's get going." said Lincoln. The group begins to make their way through Diglett Tunnel, all while the Louds train up their Pokemon.
Lincoln's Incineroar learned Thrash, his Rufflet battled some Zubats found there and learned Tailwind, his Trevenant learned Forest Curse, his Gyarados learned Scary Face and Dragon Rage, his Lycanroc learned Rock Slide, and Lucario learned Swords Dance and Metal Sound.
Lynn's Crabrawler learned Crabhammer, her Hawlucha learned Bounce, her Machamp learned Submission, which sounded like her kind of move, her Fletchinder got stronger, her Kabuto learned Aqua Jet, and her Passimian learned Take Down and Bestow. During the training, her Fletchinder began to glow.
"Whoa; Fletchinder's evolving!" said Lynn. Everyone watches as Fletchinder began to grow. When he stopped glowing, his head and most of his wings were an orange-red color while the tips of his wings were black, the rest of his body was gray with orange spots on his underside, black and yellow markings around his eyes, yellow legs with black talons, a black hooked beak, and an orange pointed crest atop his head. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at Lynn's newly-evolved Fletchinder.
"Talonflame, the Scorching Pokemon and the final evolved form of Fletchling. Its tough wings don't allow fire to pass through them. A long time ago, firefighters' outfits were made from Talonflame wings." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"He looks so cool!" said Lynn.
Shelby's Meowth learned Taunt and Pay Day, her Sudowoodo learned Rock Tomb, her Smoochum learned Mean Look, her Seel learned Aqua Ring, her Espeon learned Psybeam, and her Flaaffy learned Electro Ball. Her Meowth found a Balm Mushroom, a Super Potion, and a grayish-green stone with her Pickup ability.
"Wow; another Balm Mushroom!" said Shelby.
"What's that rock your Meowth found?" asked Shiloh.
"That's a Moon Stone." said Kiawe. "It can be used to make some Pokemon evolve."
"It can make Shane's Jigglypuff evolve." said Lillie.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. Shelby begins scratching her Meowth behind her ear, making her purr; she suddenly begins to glow.
"Meowth's evolving!" said Shelby. Meowth begins to grow and change shape. When the glowing stopped, she was bigger, now stood on four legs with claws on each end of her toes, and had a blue gem on her forehead. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at Shelby's newly-evolved Meowth.
"Persian, the Classy Cat Pokemon, and the evolved form of Meowth. In contrast to its lovely face, it's so brutal that it tortures its weakened prey rather than finishing them off." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"This says your Persian learned Swift when she evolved, and she now has the Fur Coat ability which lessens damage done by physical attacks." said Lincoln.
Shiloh's Rockruff got stronger, his Snorlax learned Rest, his Mantyke learned Take Down, his Leafeon learned Giga Drain, and his Tirtouga learned Crunch and Wide Guard.
Shane's Trumbeak got stronger, his Mareanie learned Spike Cannon, his Jigglypuff learned Rollout, Round, Stockpile, Swallow, Spit Up, and Wake-Up Slap, his Oranguru learned Zen Headbutt, and his Lileep learned Brine and Giga Drain.
Shelby gives Shane the Moon Stone, that her Meowth found before evolving, to Shane who then touches her Jigglypuff with it, making her start to glow.
"Rad! My Jigglypuff's evolving!" said Shane. Everyone watches as Shanes' Jigglypuff starts to evolve; when she was done, she was taller, and her ears were longer.
"What is she now?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at Shane's newly evolved Jigglypuff.
"Wigglytuff, the Balloon Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Igglybuff. Thanks to its bouncy body and fine fur, this Pokémon is sought after. Holding one in your arms while you sleep feels great." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"That is so cool!" said Shelby.
"Hey, come back here!" a familiar voice from inside the tunnel call out; everyone looks to see Tupp, along with Zipp and Rapp, chasing after a small, olive green Pokemon with a horn-like protrusion sticking out the top of its head, a diamond-shaped, red scale-covered belly with a diamond-shaped hole on each side of it, and a cone-shaped tail that had a circle of platelike scales.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the Pokemon.
"Larvitar, the Rock Skin Pokemon. Born underground, it eats its way through dirt to the surface, where its parents are. It doesn't deal well with the bright light it finds there." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"What are Team Skull doing with it?" asked Shane.
"I think Tupp's trying to catch it..." said Lincoln before Tupp dives at the Larvitar, only for it to duck under his grab, making him hit his head on a rocky tunnel wall. "... and doing a lousy job."
"Come back here, you little runt!" said Tupp as he continues to chase after the Larvitar while rubbing his head to ease the pain it was in.
"Why do you want that Larvitar, bro?" asked Zipp.
"Because I want a Pokemon that can take on those lousy Louds!" said Tupp.
"Who are you calling lousy?!" asked Lynn, getting Team Skull's attention.
"Not you guys again!" said Zipp.
"CUTIE!" shouts Rapp as she tackle hugs Lincoln to the ground and nuzzles his cheek, making Lincoln blush, and Mallow growl at her.
"Get off him!" said Mallow, making Rapp glare back at her. The Larvitar, seeing an opportunity, runs past Tupp and Zipp, and hides behind Shiloh.
"Give that Larvitar to us!" said Tupp.
"It obviously doesn't want to be with you guys!" said Lynn.
"Too bad!" said Tupp. "Rapp, get over here so we can take these chumps down!"
"Party pooper." said Rapp before she pulls her mask down, kisses Lincoln on the cheek, making Mallow growl at her, and heads back to her associates.
"We can do this the easy way, or the hard way!" said Tupp as he takes a pokeball off his waist.
"I like the hard way." said Shiloh as he takes a pokeball off his waist.
"Darn; I was hoping for the easy way." said Tupp as he tosses a pokeball, releasing an Alolan Grimer.
"Rockruff, go!" said Shiloh, throwing Rockruff's pokeball, and releasing him. "Rockruff, Use Howl!" Rockruff lets out a howl and energy surges through him, increasing his attack strength.
"Grimer, Poison Fang!" said Tupp. Grimer leaps at Rockruff while its teeth glowed purple and it bites Rockruff, but not dealing much damage.
"Rockruff, Rock Tomb!" said Shiloh. Multiple gray rocks form around Rockruff and they fly at Grimer, hitting it, dealing damage to it, and lowering its speed.
"Grimer, use Bite!" said Tupp. Grimer leaps at Rockruff and bites Rockruff, dealing damage, and making him flinch. "Now use Acid Spray!" Grimer fires a purple glob of acid out of its mouth and it hits Rockruff, not dealing much damage, but weakening Rockruff's special defense.
"Rockruff, use Tackle!" said Shiloh. Rockruff charges at Grimer and rams it, dealing damage, and knocking it back.
"Grimer, use Pound!" said Tupp. Grimer leaps at Rockruff and pounds him, but not dealing much damage.
"Rockruff, Rock Throw!" said Shiloh. Rockruff launches small rocks out of his tail and they hit Grimer, knocking it out.
"Way to go, little bro!" said Shane.
"Good work, Rockruff." said Shiloh. Rockruff nods and suddenly begins to glow. "Rockruff's evolving!" Everyone watches as Rockruff begins to grow; when he stopped, he resembled a light brown wolf with a white underside, and dark brown rocks sticking out of his mane. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at Shiloh's newly-evolved Rockruff.
"Lycanroc Midday Form, the Wolf Pokemon, and the evolved form of Rockruff. The sharp rocks in its mane can cut like knives. Lycanroc wears its prey down by degrees before finishing them off." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"This says your Lycanroc learned Accelerock when he evolved." said Lincoln.
"But why does my Lycanroc look different from yours." asked Shiloh.
"Because my Rockruff evolved during a sunset, but yours didn't." replied Lincoln.
"Oh, okay." said Shiloh. Tupp growled before returning his Alolan Grimer to its pokeball and tossing pokedollars to Shiloh before walking to Rapp and Zipp.
"Let's get out of here!" said Tupp as he storms down the tunnel.
"Right behind you." said Zipp. Rapp turns towards Lincoln and winks at him before she follows after her friends.
"Good work, Shiloh." said Lincoln. As everyone congratulates Shiloh on his victory, the Larvitar that Team Skull was after walks up to him getting everyone's attention.
"Is something wrong, Larvitar?" Shiloh asked the Pokemon, only for it to smile at him before hugging his waist.
"I think it likes you." said Lillie with a giggle.
"Maybe you should catch it." suggested Sophocles.
"You wanna come with me, Larvitar?" asked Shiloh. Larvitar smiles and nods in response.
"Looks like it does." said Mallow. Shiloh takes out an empty pokeball from his pocket and tosses it at Larvitar, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles once before clicking.
"Yes! I caught Larvitar!" said Shiloh. Lincoln looks up his cousin's latest capture on his Rotom Phone.
"This says your Larvitar is a boy, he knows Bite, Leer, Sandstorm, Screech, Chip Away, Rock Slide, and Scary Face; he has the Guts ability like Lynn's Machamp does." said Lincoln.
"Awesome!" said Shiloh.
The group has helped a Larvitar, and Shiloh has a new Pokemon for his team. What else will the Louds experience as their Alola adventure continues?
Meanwhile, at Brooklet Hill, Chandler was whimpering with tears in his eyes as he holds onto the shell of the Lapras he was riding on during his Island Trial there.
"It's going too fast!" said Chandler.
"She's barely going one mile per hour." said Alola Lana.
"S-Shut up." said Chandler.
