Chapter Twelve
Lex
….
"You have got to be kidding me," she can't help but exclaim as she watches the Allosaurs charge towards the direction of the running Jurrasic Tour Jeeps who then accelerate from the cruising speed they are using the moment they take notice of the apex predators charging towards them.
For Lex this is a nightmare come true. This is Jurassic Park all over again. Dinosaurs escaping, fences failing and people put in peril. However right now she is not that helpless kid who has to rely on Dr. Grant for support and help. She has honed herself for such a time as this.
"Oh my god, those carnivores would catch up to them in no time," exclaims Larry one of the techies behind the desk who is also watching in fascinated horror the screen. The Allosaurs are roaring as they charge through the open field toward the escaping vehicles. She watches as one of the vehicle trucks stumbles on a road bump in the grassy field throwing one of its passengers off. The following Allosaurus grabs the flying man mid-air, swallowing him in three mighty bites before resuming the pursuit.
"We need to get ACU on that," says Sophie at her side who is also watching in horror as another passenger is thrown off from the trucks only to be devoured by the chasing dinos.
"ACU is devastated by the Indominus. We don't have anyone to take care of that," shouts Claire back at them. "All I have in the area are park rangers and they do not have the skills or the courage to fight off three Allosaurs,"
"What about the helicopter overwatch from before?" asks Owen.
"Eagle One is currently on search and patrol for any sign of the escaping Indominus," exclaims another techie. I could divert it to the Allosaurs at your command ma'am,"
"They've expended their ammunition at the dinosaur. It won't do any good for them to be there," says Lex before growling as she comes into a decision that she doesn't really like. It's not as if anyone is willing to do anything at the moment with every person at the Control Room looking like confused chickens as they stare at one another looking for an answer that their peers seem to cannot provide. While they play staring game, more people being chased there are being murdered and killed by the Allosaurs. That's not to mention the Indominus that is currently still Missing in Action at the moment, free to wreak havoc.
"I am taking Eagle Two after the Allosaurs. Sophie can you pilot a Huey?" asks Lex remembering through the files she has read given to her by her godfather that the spare ACU vehicle is a decommissioned Huey bought at a fair price from the Costa Rican Air Force. It serves as a spare until the bigwigs found it generous that they can spare money to another helicopter.
"It would be rough, but I can do it," her lover answers with a nod.
"Good, we are piloting it. Me, you and that ACU guy, Shaw to bring the tranquilizer supplies. We are putting down those Allosaurs chasing after the trucks,"
Claire looks ready to protest but the shuts up with a glare from her. "Also mount up the minigun just in case we get a bead on the Indominus. We are putting it down for good,"
"You can't just put down a multi-million dollar asset!" protests one of the board members who is in the room with them.
"I can and I will, watch me," grunts Lex with Sophie already walking out in front of her to the hallway.
With a short nod at the rest of the people in the control room, Lex walks out with long strides following Sophie. She hears however fast pattering behind her and she sighs as she hears the familiar voice of her godfather calling out after her.
"Wait! Wait a minute Alexis," he pants a little as she pauses to turn at him. "You walk fast,"
"Time is of the essence godfather. The more I dilly-dally, the lesser chance those people being chased by the Allosaurs will have," she simply says.
"I can't let you do this," he finally states making her cock a questioning eyebrow at him.
"How so?"
"It's too dangerous," he finally blurts out. "I made a promise to your grandfather, one of my closest friends that I would take care of you if he's not there. This is the exact opposite of that promise. Let ACU deal with those Allosaurs. You don't need to get out there,"
"I am and I would godfather," Lex sighs placing a hand on his shoulder. "You know as well as I do that with the massacre of the retrieval team of the Indominus that ACU would be in shambles in trying to form a response. This is the right thing to do. Sophie is a soldier before, and I am an excellent shot if I do say so myself. Have a little trust on us. Those people don't have long and they would certainly end up as dinosaur food even more if things continue as it is,"
"I don't want to put you in danger," says the Indian billionaire unhappily.
"We live in dangerous times godfather, that is why I made sure that I have the skills to back myself up," answers Lex letting a little of her bravado show. "Now go, I have already made up my mind on this. However you can still do your part by making sure that the dinosaur escapee of yours is caught. For that you need to know what it is made of first. I suggest a visit to the labs to your scientists. The more you know about it, the greater chance you will have at putting it down before it destroys more of this park,"
"Fine, fine. I will take your advise on this. But don't you dare die on me Alexis Murphy. Your brother will sue my ass to hell and back if that ever happens and your grandfather will throttle me in the afterlife," says Massrani before finally leaving making Lex turn to the second person who has followed them.
"Mr. Grady,"
"Miss Murphy, I volunteer my service in this escapade of yours," he says simply.
Lexy only let off a smile. "I appreciate the certainty of your offer Mr. Grady, however I have to decline. Sophie and I can deal with this with Mr. Shaw's help. You seem to be a sensible man. Make sure that those in the control room not do harebrained ideas while I'm away,"
"It seems a futile effort but if you are sure," he nods before slowly walking away back where he came from.
"Are you sure that we can do this on our lonesome?" asks Sophie coming to stand beside her.
"We would be airborne and unless we have extremely bad luck, then we would be away from the danger. I do trust your piloting skills love,"
"Fine, let's head to the Response Facility and get Shaw before we try to find that Huey," says Sophie making Lex nod before going in a light jog after her.
The two of them still covered in bits of leaves, mud and dirt make an odd sight as they run through the great centerpiece building of Jurassic World. They after all don't have the chance yet to change ever since they manage to escape the Indominus from its paddock. They garner a lot of looks in the atrium as visitors stare oddly at the two bedraggled looking duo. In the end, they do not have the run to the Response Facility as there at the entrance of the facility already waiting for them is Shaw carrying two large duffel bags with him. Seeing them, he raises a hand making the two of them run towards him.
"You're here," says Lex simply in a questioning manner as they pause in front of him.
"Owen radioed me out there about what you two planned. Both of you are crazy and brave, I'm in. Now come, Huey's this way,"
With a wordless nod at Sophie, Lexy follows the ACU member out to one of the side areas covered with a fence with the title "reserved personnel only". Even then they can see that there are few, even for personnel on it. In the end they reach what seems to be a cleared area and there in the middle is a very old looking Huey with engineers all around her. Some are refueling her while the others are checking the systems and the rest are busy drilling what seems to be the minigun at its side.
"That thing really looks old, like Vietnam war old," comments Sophie the moment their eyes lay eyes on it.
"I'm afraid it is," grimaces Shaw. "We call her Old Bertha but her call-sign for this mission would be Eagle-Two. I really hope you are as good as Miss Lex you are Miss Sophie, this rust bucket would not be easy to fly,"
"No time like the present," says Sophie with a wry smile as she takes off her suit and pencil skirt. Lex just raises a questioning eyebrow at her.
"I am not going to what seems to be the most dangerous part of my life being hindered by office clothes," she laughs out as she removes her skirt leaving her in her shorts.
"Good point," Lex acquiesces before also following the same taking off her blazer and striped button up suit leaving her in her shirt and shorts also. She does not miss that the ACU engineers are staring with even one guy walking straight to the Huey's doors with how much he is staring at them.
"You do not have flight suits do you?" asks Sophie now in her sleeveless shirt only and shorts.
"We do not," says Shaw eyeing their open limbs in full display. "Are you sure that you want to start off this chase wearing only that?"
"No, but what choice do we have?" asks Lex. "No time to change. What do you have in those duffel bags?" she nods at the bags he's holding.
"Ahh this," he opens it revealing a sophisticated sniper rifle which he gives to her. "That is the RD706. It is pretty well-known for big game hunters able to equip sixteen millimeter dart capacity. It has enough penetration power that can shoot through a T-Rex's skull. I have only two with me, one for you and one for me. This would be enough I reckon for what we are about to do,"
"No problem for me," says Lex as she inspects the weapon. "This is good enough for me. Let's go,"
"Okay, good. You heard her people. WE….ARE….GOING! Everyone not included in this mission, clear off!" he barks to the engineers who wastes no time getting out of the clearing as the three of them enters the Huey with Sophie at the pilot seat.
"Oh good lord, this thing is so old," she bemoans at the front the moment her ass plops on it however.
"Can you fly it?"
"No time like the present," she replies cranking the engines to life. For a moment it seems that it would not turn on as the sound of spluttering is the only thing that can be heard. With a mighty engine heave however, it suddenly sounds off and the cheers of the engineers can be heard outside as the rotors whir to life.
"That answers it," says Sophie now cheerfully as she lifts the stick of the chopper up. The entire frame shudders as the heli starts to slowly gain altitude, the tall trees and buildings of Jurassic World being left behind as they take to the air.
"Where do we go?" Sophie asks out upfront as Shaw hands her the coordinates.
"That is where the Allosaurs are chasing off the Jurrasic World Tour trucks. We need to get there as fast as we can,"
"Aye, aye, capitan. Hold on to your butts, this would be a hard ride," she replies before putting the throttles forward making the old helicopter bank forward fast nearly dislodging Lex from her seat. Immediately she clamps the seatbelts in as Shaw also does the same for his.
"Put that in," Shaw throws at her, a mag full of tranquilizers. She merely looks at him questioningly.
"Fastest tranquilizers we have here at the park. When it hits those Allosaurs, it goes directly to their bloodstream. Ten seconds and they would be out like the light,"
"You have no idea what these contain do you?" Lex raises an eyebrow in question making the quartermaster chuckle as he rubs the back of his head with a sheepish grin.
"Not exactly, it is the suppliers who make sure that we get the supplies. I'm just the grunt in charge to stow them safely away,"
"I see," Lex sighs as she clamps in the mag to the rifle. So far it fits perfectly. Ten shots for five Allosaurs, that should be enough. Thirty minutes later and Lex is looking over the side of the helicopter over the mountains. They seem to bring to her a familiarity that she once has when she many years before flown on the same mountains to visit dinosaurs brought back by her grandfather. Unfortunately while the place brings to her a sense of nostalgia; so does the danger. This time however, she is not helpless.
"We are almost there. I can see the Jurassic Tour tracks in the area. Extending area search for the Allosaurs and those missing trucks, everyone get ready. Put your heads in a swivel, we are banking down below," says Sophie upfront as the helicopter descends in order for them to be able to see the tracks more clearly on the ground.
Lex wastes no time looking down at the side where the trucks indentions on the ground can be seen. She can see them clearly and unfortunately, also dinosaur tracks.
"Footsteps are heading North-East towards the jungle," she calls out to her radio. "That is where they have gone,"
"The foliage would lessen visuals," says Sophie in reply.
"That is where we need to go Sophie," says Lex making the other woman sigh before nodding as she banks the helicopter forward to follow the tracks. It takes them two minutes before spotting the first sight of their quarry.
"I see debris of broken trucks at the edge of the forest," says Sophie banking the helicopter down so that the passengers can stare at the sight. Lex just grimaces at what she sees.
They are too late.
The wreckage of the Jurrasic World Trucks can be seen everywhere with the main bodies thrown to the trees not far from the foliage. There are pieces of the trucks everywhere and there are no signs however of the dead bodies. Lex does not want to think what even happened to them.
"We need to make sure that there are no survivors," she says through the radio. "Set the helicopter down and I would check,"
"Are you mad?! Those Allosaurs might still be out there in those trees," protests Sophie.
"I know, that is why Shaw here would be manning the minigun in case of shit hitting the fan. Make sure also to be ready to leave just in case," says Lex already jumping off the helicopter and landing on her legs, the flat ground sending shockwaves to her form. She can hear Sophie screaming at her from the pilot seat and she grimaces. Her girlfriend would have her ass for this one and she can already see the many angry sex sessions later before Sophie forgives her.
The sound of the Huey landing makes Lex immediately start forward looking at the ominous trees far ahead. They look like your everyday normal woods but for her she has never seen anything more ominous in her entire life as she slowly steps forward to the direction of the wreckages, the rifle in her hand never going down as her eyes scan the trees. She remembers that Allosaurs are ambush predators. They are after all the progenitor of the T-Rex. Unlike the king of dinosaurs however, they are not bulky and can actually chase down their prey in long distances…..which sucks for her.
"Anyone there?! Anyone still alive?!" she calls out loudly to the downed trucks, her eyes raking over the back where usually the guests would sit as they gawk at dinosaurs. There are none of them to see. She just grimaces before checking the front for any surviving drivers or park rangers. It seems that there is no person left also.
The attack came from the right.
It is so sudden and so quick that Lex almost lost her life as she barely has time to jump to the side to avoid the bite. As it is, it still snags the back of her shorts, making her scream as she is lifted to the air, her flailing hands making her drop the rifle. She can smell the stench of the dinosaur, the combination of rotting meat and dried blood as it lifts her up. She can see four more Allosaurs approaching also from the trees making her flail even more.
She's going to die and she's going to be eaten alive. She almost cries at this point. All her training, all her preparedness makes her not able to challenge the might of mother nature.
The sound of ripping can be heard and Lex found herself in free fall gravity as she kisses the dirt. Her mind only has a few seconds to realize that her shorts has ripped off the teeth of the Allosaur leaving her in her underwear but very much far away from the gaping jaws of the dinosaur that has been dangling her in the air.
The sound of mechanical whirring can be heard and the dinosaurs roar in pain and anger as tracer rounds appear by the hundreds driving them back a few paces and back to the forest as the minigun of Shaw opened fire drilling bullet holes on them.
"Get over here!" screams the quartermaster still firing and Lex needs no second introduction as she run like the hounds of hell are after her. One of the Allosaurs break formation from the scattering gang and chases after her. She once more screams as she can feel almost its hot breath in her neck. Lex is fit and fast but the Allosaur is bigger and have longer legs. She knows it's gaining on her.
She barely makes it to the chopper entrance doors by diving before the jaws almost close once again. She nearly face plants on the metal flooring if not for Shaw grabbing her and pushing her to the seat. The helicopter immediately takes altitude fast with Shaw still firing the minigun.
"I thought these are precious assets that the bigwigs don't want hurt," comments Lex as they take into the air.
"I'm pretty sure Mr. Massrani would prefer a few dead dinos than you being eaten miss," answers Shaw stopping the hail of bullets with them in the air again. She can still hear the roars of the Allosaurs down below in frustration of their meal escaping.
"Where is she?!" booms Sophie angrily from the radio upfront. "Tell her that she's damned lucky she's not dead! I told her so! The moment I get out of this pilot seat I'm punishing that ass of hers till she learns her lesson!"
"She's fine Miss Sophie, just lost her shorts, but she's okay. Giving me a real eye candy here though," jokes Shaw making the pilot growl upfront.
"Tell her-," her next tirade however is cut short as the radio crackles again.
"Eagle Two, this is Command and Control. We are requesting emergency pickup at the Indominus paddock for the team sent to investigate there. They have requested assistance but they have not been responding for a while. You are the closest air support that we have Eagle Two, Command and Control out,"
"The team sent out there? Isn't that Claudia's team?" radios Sophie in question.
"Yes, head there Sophie and let's see if our girl ended up in trouble," says Lex.
"What about your lack of pants?" asks her girlfriend.
"It can wait," she simply sighs. It is not Lex to be an exhibitionist with only in her underwear but if Claudia's in trouble, it is their duty to pick her up.
