Chapter 2

The three of us set off together toward Route 1, our excitement palpable. The morning sun bathed the path in a golden glow, and the sound of rustling leaves and chirping Pokémon filled the air.

Hilda skipped ahead, her voice full of enthusiasm. "Oh! I wonder what will happen! Isn't this so exciting?!"

"It sure is," Cheren replied, his tone measured but still carrying a hint of eagerness. "Come on, the professor's waiting for us."

As we approached the starting point of the route, we spotted Professor Juniper standing at the edge of the tall grass, her Minccino perched beside her. I jogged ahead, waving. "Professor Juniper, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."

She turned to us with her trademark cheerful smile. "Now that everyone's here, let me explain. The Pokédex's pages update automatically whenever you meet a Pokémon! But that's not all—it's set up so that you obtain even more information when you catch a Pokémon! To make this clear, I'm going to demonstrate how to catch one."

She gestured toward a patch of tall grass, and almost as if on cue, a wild Patrat popped out. Calmly, she sent out her Minccino. "Minccino, let's make this quick!" she called.

We watched as Minccino used a precise Tail Slap, reducing the Patrat's HP to a manageable level. Then, with practiced ease, Juniper threw a Poké Ball. The ball wobbled a few times before clicking shut, and the professor turned back to us with a triumphant smile.

"Did you see that, just now? Here's how it goes, step by step. First, reduce the Pokémon's HP—Pokémon that still have all of their energy are difficult to catch. If you can, use your Pokémon's moves to make the Pokémon you want to catch fall asleep or paralyze it! And to wrap this up in the best way, I have a gift for you—some Poké Balls!"

She handed each of us a small pouch containing five Poké Balls. "Poké Balls are used for catching Pokémon and for carrying the Pokémon you catch! Keep them with you at all times."

We nodded in unison, and Juniper continued, "Now, I'm going on ahead. I'll be waiting for you in Accumula Town! Take your time exploring on the way there."

With a wave, she turned and headed down the path, disappearing into the distance.

As soon as she was out of earshot, Cheren sighed, adjusting his glasses. "She forgot to mention one crucial detail—Pokémon can jump out at you in the tall grass."

Hilda laughed, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "Well, that's part of the fun, isn't it?"

Cheren shrugged. "Either way, I'm heading to Accumula Town. No time to waste."

I grinned, clutching my Poké Balls tightly. "Not so fast, Cheren. I'm going to catch the strongest Pokémon here before I move on! Just you wait and see!"

Hilda rolled her eyes playfully. "You two always turn everything into a competition. Fine, but don't get left behind!"

After Professor Juniper left, I decided it was time to train with Oshawott. He was my third Pokémon, and while Munna and Braviary were already strong, Oshawott needed to catch up. Training could be done in three ways: practicing moves and techniques on our own, battling wild Pokémon, or battling other Trainers. The third option made me uneasy. I'd never had a serious Trainer battle before—not the kind where strategy and stakes really mattered. Back in Nuvema Town, battling wasn't exactly common, and some people even thought it was uncivilized to have full-fledged battles in the middle of town.

Hilda walked beside me, Gigi the Tepig at her heels. "You're awfully quiet," she said, glancing over at me. "Thinking about training?"

"Yeah," I admitted. "It's just… I've never really battled another Trainer before. Not seriously, anyway."

Hilda grinned, giving me a playful nudge. "Well, you're going to have to get over that soon. There are Trainers everywhere, and they're not going to go easy on you just because you're new."

I sighed, watching Oshawott practice his Razor Shell on a small rock. He was doing his best, but there was no denying he needed more experience. Before I could dwell on it, a booming voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Hey there, young Trainers!"

We turned to see a large, cheerful man leaning on a hiking stick. His broad grin and weathered gear made him look like he'd been adventuring for years.

"Name's Andy," he said, waving us over. "You two just starting out?"

"Yeah, I'm Hilbert, and this is Hilda," I said, motioning to my sister.

"Nice to meet you!" Hilda chimed in, her usual energy on full display.

"Well, Hilbert and Hilda, let me ask you something," Andy said, his tone turning curious. "What's your goal in life?"

I didn't hesitate. "I want to win the Pokémon League. Not just participate—I want to win it all."

Andy's grin widened, and he straightened up. "Aiming for the top, huh? I like that! But to reach the League, you'll need more than dreams. You'll need skill, strategy, and guts. How about I give you a little taste of what it takes?"

Before we could respond, he tossed three Poké Balls into the air. With a flash of light, a Cottonee, a Blitzle, and a Roggenrola appeared before him. My eyes widened—this wasn't just a battle. It was a triple battle.

"A triple battle?" I echoed, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. "I've never done one before."

Andy chuckled. "No better time to learn than now! Show me what you've got, kid."

I turned to Hilda. "You in on this?"

She crossed her arms, smirking. "I think I'll sit this one out and watch. It's your first Trainer battle—you've got to handle it on your own."

I gulped but nodded. Oshawott stood ready, Munna floated beside me, and Braviary landed with a sharp cry. This was it—my first real Trainer battle.

"Alright, Oshawott, Munna, Braviary—let's do this!" I called, pointing forward.

Hilda cheered from the sidelines. "You've got this, Hilbert! Show him what you're made of!"

The battle was on.

The battle was intense, but in the end, Oshawott, Munna, and Braviary worked together to secure our victory. Blitzle and Cottonee fainted first, leaving Roggenrola to face Braviary's powerful Aerial Ace. When the dust settled, Andy recalled his Pokémon with a sigh and a bittersweet smile.

"Well, you got me, kid," he said, resting his hands on his hiking stick. "You've got real potential. I'd say the Pokémon League better watch out for you."

"Thanks!" I said, grinning from ear to ear, still riding the high of my first Trainer battle victory. "That was incredible!"

Hilda clapped her hands. "You did great, Hilbert! And you put on a good fight too, Andy."

Andy chuckled, but there was something somber in his expression. "Ah, well, maybe it's time I hang up my Poké Balls for good."

Hilda and I froze, her smile fading into a confused frown. "What?" she asked. "Why would you say that?"

Andy shrugged, his cheerful demeanor slipping away. "Truth is, I've been at this for 20 years. Became a Trainer when I was just a teenager, full of dreams about reaching the Pokémon League. But every time I tried, I gave up halfway through. Never had the grit to see it through. And here I am, decades later, losing to a kid just starting out."

I stared at him, speechless. The confident, adventurous hiker who had challenged me so boldly just moments ago suddenly seemed so small.

Hilda, however, wasn't having it. She stepped forward, hands on her hips. "That's no reason to give up! So what if you've had setbacks? That doesn't mean you're a rotten Trainer!"

Andy looked at her, his expression unsure. "You don't understand. I've let my Pokémon down time and time again. They've stuck with me, sure, but… maybe they deserve a better Trainer."

"That's not true," I cut in, stepping beside Hilda. "Your Pokémon trust you. You saw how hard they fought for you in that battle. Even if you haven't made it to the League yet, you're still their Trainer. They believe in you—you owe it to them to believe in yourself."

Hilda nodded. "And think about how far you've come! You've been at this for 20 years. That means you have way more experience than most Trainers out there. Use that! You've got a team that's been with you through thick and thin. Don't you think they'd want to keep fighting by your side?"

Andy looked down at the Poké Balls in his hands, a flicker of emotion crossing his face. "You two… really think I should keep going?"

"Absolutely!" I said firmly. "Dreams aren't just about the destination—they're about the journey. And yours isn't over yet."

Andy was silent for a moment, then let out a hearty laugh. "You know what? You're right. I've been too hard on myself. Maybe I've stumbled, but I still have my Pokémon, and they still have me. I can't give up on them—or on my dream."

He straightened up, his old confidence returning. "Thanks, you two. You've reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. Tell you what—next time we meet, I'll be stronger, and I'll give you a real challenge!"

Hilda grinned. "We'll hold you to that, Andy!"

"Yeah," I added, smiling. "We'll see you at the League!"

With that, Andy waved goodbye and headed down the path, his stride full of purpose. As we watched him disappear into the distance, I felt a surge of pride—not just for winning the battle, but for helping someone rediscover their dream.

"Not bad, Hilbert," Hilda said, nudging me playfully. "Looks like you're not just a Trainer—you're an inspiration too."

I laughed. "Hey, don't go giving me a big head."

She smirked. "Too late."

We both laughed as we continued our journey, the road ahead feeling a little brighter.

After our eventful journey along Route 1, we finally arrived at Accumula Town. The quaint little town was bustling with activity, but standing near the Pokémon Center, waving us over, was Professor Juniper. She greeted us with her ever-cheerful demeanor.

"Welcome to Accumula Town!" she said, her voice brimming with excitement. "I've been waiting for you. Now, let me give you a quick tour of the Pokémon Center!"

She led us through the automatic doors, and immediately, the warm and inviting atmosphere of the Pokémon Center surrounded us. Trainers were bustling about, chatting with nurses, and using the PCs along the wall. The soothing music playing in the background made the place feel like a second home.

"This is a Pokémon Center!" Juniper began, gesturing around her. "Don't you feel better as soon as you step through the door? OK, let's start your tour! A Pokémon Center is a truly incredible place. Do you know why? Because your Pokémon can be healed! And, what's more, it's absolutely free! A Pokémon Center is a Trainer's best friend. Hilbert, why don't you give it a try?"

I stepped forward, a bit nervous but excited, and handed my Poké Balls to Nurse Joy. Within moments, my Pokémon were healed and returned to me. "Thank you for waiting! Your Pokémon are fighting fit!" Nurse Joy said with a kind smile.

"See? Easy as that!" Juniper said. "Now that your Pokémon have rested, let's move on to the PC."

She led us to a sleek machine in the corner. "This is the PC. It's free for any Trainer to use. You can store Pokémon in your PC Boxes or select Pokémon stored in your PC Boxes to take along with you. And here's the best part—if you catch a new Pokémon while you already have six traveling with you, the new Pokémon is automatically sent to your PC Box. Isn't that amazing?"

Hilda leaned in, curiosity written all over her face. "But who made this system? It's so cool!"

Juniper smiled knowingly. "That's a great observation, Hilda, and a good question! I'd love to explain, but for now, let's just say that 'someone' made the Pokémon Storage System. That's all you need to know for now. I'm sure you'll meet them someday! OK, let's move on!"

Next, she guided us to the Poké Mart, which was located within the same building. A cheerful clerk waved as we approached. "Now, this is the Poké Mart," Juniper explained. "Here, you can buy useful items like Poké Balls, Potions, and Antidotes, or sell the items you don't need anymore. This gentleman here will help you with a smile!"

Hilda browsed the shelves curiously, while Cheren asked a few questions about pricing and item availability. I listened closely, trying to absorb every bit of information. This was all new to me, and I didn't want to miss anything important.

After we finished the tour, Juniper turned to us with a smile. "Well, that wraps up the basics of being a Trainer! You've got healing, Pokémon storage, and items all in one place. Isn't that convenient?"

She paused, as if reflecting on something, then added, "Now, I'm going to head back to Nuvema Town, but I have one last piece of advice for you. When you get to Striaton City, I want you to meet an inventor named Fennel. She's an old friend of mine, and I'm sure she'll have some valuable tools and advice for your journey."

Juniper looked at each of us with a warm expression. "Best of luck to all of you. I hope your journeys prove to be the adventure of a lifetime!" With a wave, she left, the doors sliding shut behind her.

The three of us stood there for a moment, taking it all in. Hilda broke the silence with a grin. "Well, we're officially Trainers now. What do you guys say? Ready to explore the rest of Accumula before we head out?"

I nodded, clutching my Poké Balls tightly. "Yeah. Let's see what this town has to offer."

Cheren adjusted his glasses, his tone calm but determined. "And after that, Striaton City. We've got work to do."

Together, we stepped out of the Pokémon Center, ready for whatever came next.

Here is a new chapter, and in this chapter, we have Hilbert and Hilda arriving at Accumula Town. I hope you like this chapter and the next chapter will be meeting N.
