Jaune Arc, the fifth son of the Arc family and the only boy among eight sisters, is now a student at Beacon, although he managed to enter without the consent of his mother and sisters. Perhaps because they considered that profession too dangerous for him. However, his father and mother met at Beacon as students and managed to start a family, so he was convinced that he could make it too. His plan was simple: first he would begin his training, then he would meet the girl of his dreams, they would both graduate and together, they would raise a family with several children.
He would think so if only he hadn't thrown up inside the Bullhead, near the shoes of that cute blonde girl who was accompanied by a cute redhead. Why did he have to suffer from motion sickness? And why did the dumpster have to be so far away and next to those girls? It was his first day and possibly he would now be known as "Vomit boy". His chances of getting a girlfriend had drastically decreased.
These thoughts were interrupted by a loud explosion. Moved by curiosity, the disheveled blond quickly went to the place of the roar. There he observed a beautiful white-haired girl, who could easily pass for an angel, and a young black-haired girl, with a mysterious air, arguing with each other. In the center of the crater was the red-haired girl he had seen at the Bullhead. Without thinking too much about it, he began to walk hurriedly towards the place, visibly worried.
Before she could get there, the black-haired girl said something that annoyed the white-haired girl, who stormed out of the place. At the same time, the black-haired girl gave a small smile and began to walk away, completely ignoring the red-haired girl who was still on the ground, visibly affected and with a sad expression.
Seeing the girl on the floor, he couldn't help but remember his younger sisters when they had difficulty socializing. That memory awakened his big brother protective instinct, and he quickened his pace towards the redhead to offer her his hand and his best smile. However, that smile faded instantly after hearing the words she uttered.
"Aren't you the boy who threw up in the Bullhead, near my sister's shoes?" asked the silver-eyed girl, with a curious expression as she took the young man's hand to stand up.
Jaune couldn't help but grimace as he let go of the girl's hand, once she was already off the ground. He then proceeded to respond.
"Motion sickness is a fairly common condition among people," Jaune said with a tone of frustration, besides, why did he have to remind her of a moment he just wanted to forget.
The silver-eyed girl looked at him with a somewhat mocking expression.
"I just say what I saw, Vomit Boy," she replied matter-of-factly.
Hearing that comment, Jaune couldn't help but look at the girl with some frustration. Well, two can play at that game.
"If so, then your name will be Crater Face," he said with a tone of pride. Although his nickname wasn't very original, he found the girl's frustrated expression amusing, so much so that he couldn't help but let out a laugh. The redhead averted her face with a pout, and truth be told, it was quite a cute sight.
"Okay, how about we introduce ourselves again? I'm Jaune, Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love them," he said with a big smile. That phrase would help him make a better impression of confidence; his father had always told him that it helped him win over his mother. Although his mother simply laughed and his little sisters called it a pathetic phrase, he believed his father would never lie to him.
"Really, girls love your name, Jaune," the silver-eyed girl said, smiling teasingly.
Jaune couldn't help but look surprised. His father had lied to his face; his hero. All right, calm down, Jaune, this is no time for regrets. You have to answer for sure.
"O come on, I already told you my name and my great line, and I still don't know yours," he said, grumbling. He hadn't answered with much assurance, but at least he'd asked for her name.
The silver-eyed girl smiled.
"My name is Ruby Rose," she said proudly. Now, at last, her expression no longer showed so much sadness.
"Nice to meet you, Ruby Rose. So how did you end up in that crater?" asked Jaune, genuinely curious.
Ruby, with an expression of frustration and anger, responded.
"I simply sneezed on the dust in her luggage and it blew up in my face. Honestly, I thought he would worry about me, but instead, she gave me a piece of paper that talked about the dangers of dust. What a weird person."
Hearing that, Jaune couldn't help but look at his new companion in surprise. To the naked eye, he didn't seem to have any burns on his skin, which was probably due to his aura, something every hunter had to have to protect himself. Although he didn't have his unlocked yet, as his mother thought it would stop him from his dream of becoming a hunter, now at Beacon he was sure that some teacher would unlock it for him.
Turning back to the conversation, he asked Ruby, concerned.
"Ruby, aren't you in any pain, do you have any burns on your body? We should take you to the infirmary to make sure you're okay."
When he finished speaking, he grabbed the redhead's hand, trying to drag her toward the infirmary. He had no idea where she was, but he was sure he could find her. However, he was stopped by Ruby's voice.
"Relax, Jaune, I'm fine, nothing happened to me. My aura protected me. Anyway, thanks for asking," Ruby said with a smile on her face.
Jaune looked at his in relief.
"I'm glad to hear that. It's our first day at Beacon, and I'd hate to know that the first person I've met is hurt," he said seriously. Despite the aura, people could still get hurt, but he put that thought aside and looked back at his new companion, noticing that she averted her gaze and began to speak shyly.
"Would you let go of my hand, Jaune?"
As he finished speaking, Jaune noticed that his face was slightly flushed.
Quickly, he released his hand and apologized.
"Sorry about that, I was just worried about you," the blond said rather sheepishly.
Ruby responded quickly to prevent the situation from becoming even more embarrassing.
"I know, Jaune, again, thank you," the girl said with a warm smile.
With that said, they both started walking again, aimlessly, until Jaune saw the silver-eyed girl pulling a gun from her hip.
"This is Crescent Rose. My weapon is a high-caliber sniper-scythe. Besides, I designed and forged it myself," Ruby explained, as she proudly raised her chest.
Jaune couldn't help but admire the weapon Ruby was showing off. He didn't really know anything about weapon engineering, but he could tell that she had created Crescent Rose with a lot of love, which reminded him of when his sisters would show off their drawings that they had made with all the joy in the world. Unconsciously, he put his hand on Ruby's head and began to rub it.
"You really are amazing, Ruby. Creating such an impressive weapon must have been hard work," he said, and Ruby seemed to enjoy the gesture for a moment. Then she quickly turned away.
"Come on, Jaune, I'm not a girl, I'm a big girl who drinks her milk," she said, with a pout on her face.
Jaune couldn't help but laugh at Ruby's tenderness, but his laughter was interrupted by her excited words.
"Stop laughing, Jaune, and show your gun, please," Ruby said with an expression full of enthusiasm, as if she expected him to pull out something as impressive as her Crescent Rose.
However, that was not the case. Jaune pulled his sword out of its sheath and showed it to her.
"Well, Ruby, my weapon is not as fancy as yours. It's just a sword, and its sheath can become a shield. The only thing special about it is its edge, which cuts through most things very well," he explained, looking at her sword fondly. After all, it had belonged to his father.
Ruby looked at the gun with the utmost seriousness before responding.
"Come on, Jaune, all weapons are good. The important thing is that the person using it brings out its full potential. Besides, the classics are always a good choice for a hunter."
Jaune was amazed at Ruby's passion for weapons and how she could praise something so simple.
"You're right, Ruby. Classics are also an excellent choice for a hunter," he said, which made Ruby smile proudly.
After a brief silence between the two, Ruby spoke again.
"Well, Jaune, how can we get to the auditorium?"
Jaune looked at her with a sheepish expression as he scratched his head.
"I...was following you, Ruby," he confessed with a mixture of embarrassment.
The red-haired girl's eyes widened in surprise as she looked around and realized that the auditorium was in the opposite direction. Without thinking, she started running at full speed.
Jaune, noticing that her new friend was running in the opposite direction, did not hesitate to follow her, picking up the pace.
Now they were both running at full speed, hoping not to be late for the conference.

After being abandoned by her sister and exploding in front of that white-haired girl, Ruby could only think that this would be the worst first day at Beacon. But then Jaune, the boy who had thrown up near her sister's shoes, showed up. Against all odds, he helped her up, was very attentive to her, plus, he listened to all her talk about her weapons without looking at her like she was a weirdo. He even complimented her and stroked her head; his hands felt surprisingly warm.
Her thoughts were interrupted when they finally reached the auditorium. Looking around, she found his sister. Well, at least she knew where to go. As she walked towards her, she noticed that Jaune was no longer following her. Surprised, she stopped and asked her:
"Aren't you coming, Jaune? There's my sister, I want to introduce her to you."
She rarely introduced anyone to her sister, but Jaune seemed like a nice guy, so she would make an exception for him. She waited for him to nod to keep walking, but instead, she received a look of fear. She was about to ask him what was wrong, but he stepped forward and spoke first.
"Ruby, I'm glad you want me to meet her, but remember I threw up near her shoes. What if she's still mad and wants to hit me for it?" said Jaune, with a distressed expression.
Ruby, hearing that, couldn't help but show a look of sympathy for her blonde friend.
"Take it easy, Jaune. My sister may be a little wild in fights, but she's a real calm person," he said with total assurance.
Jaune didn't seem very convinced and stared at her for a while before finally showing an expression of resignation.
"Okay, but if she tries to hit me, you have to stop her, Ruby," he replied, still somewhat hesitant.
Ruby couldn't help but laugh at the comment and, amused, replied.
"Easy, Jaune, I'll defend you from my savage big sister."
With that said, both started walking in Yang's direction.
When they were close enough, Ruby began to call out to her.
"Yang!"
The blonde-haired girl turned to them with a big smile. However, when she saw Jaune, her expression changed to a sly look.
"Ruby, sis, I knew you could make it, you already have a friend! I'm so proud of you," Yang said with a teasing smile.
Ruby immediately blushed, completely embarrassed, and raised her voice in protest.
"Yang, don't embarrass me in front of Jaune!"
Yang let out a laugh at Ruby's reaction, but then turned a serious look toward Jaune and pronounced firmly:
"So, Vomit boy, any reason to want to be friends with Ruby?"
Her tone was so serious that Ruby became concerned and was about to intervene to tell her sister that Jaune was a kind person. However, the blond spoke before she could do so.
"First, I want to apologize for throwing up near your shoes. I meant to do it earlier, but when I went looking for you, I couldn't find you. Also, my intentions with your sister are simply to be her friend, because Ruby is an amazing people," Jaune said with a sincere smile.
Ruby was shocked to hear her friend's compliment. She wasn't sure why anyone would consider her amazing and just as she was about to ask her sister beat her to it.
"Well, I'm glad you apologized for what happened. I'm really not mad about that accident, so don't worry, you're forgiven. But I'm curious, why do you think my sister is amazing? I don't think a few minutes talking to her is enough to prove how amazing Ruby is," Yang said with genuine curiosity.
Jaune replied with a quiet smile.
"She simply showed me Crescent Rose and told me that she forged it herself. Plus, she also encouraged me with my weapon, which is really nothing compared to hers. So, I think, if someone has so much passion and is able to praise a simple sword, it must be someone amazing."
Ruby blushed slightly. She knew that her enthusiasm for weapons could sometimes seem over the top and that others might get bored listening to it. However, she was happy that her first friend at Beacon thought her passion was kind of amazing. Maybe he could tell him about the next edition of Remnant hunter weapons or even convince him to modify his weapon. Maybe they could incorporate a pistol or missiles!
But those thoughts were interrupted when Yang raised his hand in the direction of the blond boy, interrupting his ramblings.
"Well, I'm glad my little sister met someone so sincere. So, let's start over Vomit Boy, I'm Yang Xiao Long. Nice to meet you, I hope we'll get along well," Yang said with a friendly smile, although a slight teasing tone was still present in his voice.
Jaune squeezed Yang's hand with a slight pout on his face.
"Oh, come on! I already apologized for the accident. Just call me Jaune Arc," the boy said with some frustration.
Ruby, seeing this, could not resist the temptation to joke and added playfully.
"So, you're not going to tell your line to my sister, Vomit Boy?"
Jaune looked at her with a mixture of embarrassment and pleading before responding.
"Ruby, I want to make a good first impression with your sister," he said, almost imploringly.
Ruby raised an eyebrow, slyly smiling.
"Well, maybe she could be charmed by the phrase, but putting that aside, this is my first friend at Beacon... after you abandoned me," she said, looking at his sister firmly.
Yang averted his gaze with some embarrassment, scratching the back of his neck before replying with resignation.
"I'm sorry, Ruby. I thought that would help you socialize."
Ruby seemed to pause for a moment, but before she could reply, Yang adopted a thoughtful expression that soon morphed into a cocky grin.
"And, as far as I can see, it worked. So, my cute little sister should thank me for helping you make friends," Yang declared as proudly as possible, puffing out her chest as if she had just accomplished an impressive feat.
Ruby looked at her sister in disbelief. How could she say that so proudly when she'd had a horrible time? Sure, she had met Jaune, but only after blowing up and being scolded by that white-haired girl.
"No, Yang, it wasn't because you left me that I was able to socialize. Literally, as soon as you left, I crashed into someone's luggage, and I exploded! Then I was scolded by a cranky white-haired girl who didn't even care to know if I was okay," Ruby said, raising her voice a little as she recounted her experience.
She was about to continue venting about her terrible first day, when she was interrupted by the very person she was complaining about.
"Excuse me, but it was you who was distracted and bumped into my luggage," the white-haired girl replied with a cutting tone, as she approached the group. "Besides, you have your aura active, so nothing happened to you. And, just so you know, I was the one who lost powder because of your sneeze. A scolding was more than enough, and I'd say I was pretty nice about it," she added, crossing her arms with an air of superiority
Ruby looked at her in surprise, was she really getting another scolding? She sighed internally, trying not to be discouraged. Maybe Weiss was still upset about the incident, but Ruby was determined to try. Maybe with a little patience and extra effort, they could become friends. She could already imagine the long conversations about weapon, hunter events, and even lending each other powder for special bullets. Yeah, that would be awesome. Come on, Ruby! Bring out your social skills, she thought to encourage herself.
"Well...maybe we got off to a bad start, but how about we start over?" Ruby tried to smile confidently, though her tone betrayed a slight nervousness. "I'm Ruby Rose and I'd love to be your friend." She stuttered a little, but managed it. Now all that was left was to wait for Weiss to accept.
The white-haired girl looked at her for a few seconds, then curved a strained smile.
"Of course I do, Ruby. I'm Weiss Schnee. We can be best friends and talk about things...like cute boys, for example. How about that tall, misaligned blond?" she said, gesturing to Jaune with a nod of her head. Her tone dripped with sarcasm as she continued, "Because obviously, coming to a hunter academy has nothing to do with training, right?"
Ruby lowered her head, discouraged. She understood that it wouldn't be easy to make new friends, but why did Weiss have to be so snarky? She was about to apologize again, wanting to calm things down before Yang intervened. Knowing her sister, any acidic comment could ignite an argument, and the last thing she wanted was for Yang to get in trouble on her first day at Beacon.
Before he could say anything, however, Jaune spoke first.
"You know, Weiss, I understand that you might be upset with Ruby. Dust is expensive, especially lately, and losing it can be frustrating. But I also believe that accidents happen, and the important thing is that no one got hurt, don't you think?" Her tone was calm and reasonable, accompanied by a warm smile.
"Besides," Jaune continued, looking at Weiss with sincere kindness, "even though this is a school for hunters, that doesn't mean we can't build friendships with each other. I believe that learning to support and trust each other is also an essential part of our growth. So, Weiss, I hope we can get along." He extended his hand toward her, hoping to seal the truce with a shake.
Ruby let out a sigh of relief, believing they had finally taken a step toward a new beginning. However, Weiss simply snorted, raised her chin in disdain, and walked past them without looking back.
Ruby watched as the white-haired girl walked away, her spirits drooping again. Yang, at her side, clicked her tongue disapprovingly. But before she could say anything, Jaune patted her gently on the shoulder.
"Hey, don't worry, Ruby. Not everyone opens up right away. Sometimes you just have to give them time."
The redhead looked up at her friend and found comfort in her reassuring smile. Maybe Jaune was right.
Yang watched Weiss walk away and muttered in a tone loud enough for anyone nearby to hear.
"Honestly, that girl needs to relax a bit. At this rate, she's going to turn into a bitter old hag."
The comment drew some surprised looks from nearby students, but Weiss didn't seem to react and continued on his way with the same haughty attitude.
Yang shrugged with a proud smile and looked at her younger sister. "Well, little sister, on your first day you already have a friend and an enemy. You really are one of a kind."
Ruby sighed, scratching the back of her neck as she tried to smooth over the situation. "C'mon, Yang, I don't think Weiss sees me as her enemy... More like an annoying acquaintance."
Yang raised an eyebrow and gave her younger sister a pitying look, clearly not sharing Ruby's optimism.
Wanting to keep Yang from making the situation worse, Ruby turned to Jaune, determined to change the subject. "Thanks, Jaune, for sticking up for me. It really was great. Although it seems like Weiss is... a bit of a handful."
Jaune answered her with a calm smile, his tone comforting. "No problem, Ruby. I did what anyone would have done. Besides, don't feel bad for Weiss. I'm sure you'll be able to make lots of friends here."
Jaune's words managed to calm Ruby down a bit, who returned a sincere smile. Despite the small incident, her first day at Beacon wasn't going as badly as she thought it would.
Ruby heard someone begin to speak from the center of the room. Turning, she saw headmaster Ozpin and teacher Glynda Goodwitch. It was clear that the principal was about to give a speech. Ruby knew immediately that this would be a unique moment; he would probably talk about how they were the next generation of hunters destined to save the world. She decided to give it her full attention. She didn't want to miss a single word of wisdom.
Ozpin began to speak in his calm, but firm voice.
"I won't be too long. They have traveled here in search of knowledge, to perfect their technique and acquire new skills. And when they finish, they plan to dedicate their lives to protecting people. But when I look at you, what I see is a waste of energy, a need for purpose and direction. You assume that knowledge frees you from it. However, during your time in this school, you will discover that knowledge takes you only so far...and it is up to you to take the first step."
With those last words, Ozpin ended his speech. Professor Glynda stepped forward and added in a firm voice.
"They will meet in the main hall tonight. Tomorrow the initiation begins."
With that said, they both withdrew, leaving the students with instructions and an air of anticipation.
Ruby reflected on the speech. It had been harder than she expected, but at least Ozpin's last words were somewhat inspiring. She felt a mixture of nervousness and excitement at the thought that she would soon be taking her first step towards becoming a great hunter, like her mother, father and uncle.
"Well, that was an... interesting speech, wasn't it, girls?" commented Jaune with a nonchalant calmness, breaking the silence.
Yang shrugged his shoulders, showing his usual confidence. "It could have been better," he replied with a relaxed expression.
Ruby rolled her eyes at her sister's attitude and decided to focus on the practical. "Well, I think we should go to the main hall to secure a good place to sleep."
With that, the three began walking toward the main hall, each with different thoughts about what the next day would bring.

Jaune looked in the bathroom mirror, observing his reflection. he was wearing a pair of shorts and a bunny print shirt. he had wanted to bring his full-length pajamas, but they were pretty worn out from years of playing with her younger sisters.
Finally, he decided to leave the bathroom and look for Ruby and her sister. Despite his rocky start, he had managed to make a friend in Ruby, and although he still wasn't close to Yang, he hoped that would eventually change. Weiss, however, remained an enigma. Although her attitude was somewhat brusque, she couldn't deny that her appearance was stunning. She could rival the beauty of angels, although, in her opinion, the latter were sure to be kinder. Jaune wished he could get along with her someday.
Putting those thoughts aside, he focused on finding Ruby and Yang. After a while of searching, he finally spotted them in the living room. Ruby was there, in her pajamas full of adorable rose patterns, and her sister, Yang, in slightly more... provocative pajamas. Jaune couldn't help but be briefly distracted by noticing Yang's legs, but quickly averted his gaze. No, Jaune. Don't make a fool of yourself. Don't get nervous in front of Ruby's sister, he thought to himself.
Shifting his focus, he noticed that there was also another girl in the room, a black-haired one wearing a yukata. Jaune couldn't help but notice that her legs were also elegant, but he quickly averted his gaze once again, feeling slightly uncomfortable.
Finally, his gaze settled on Weiss, who was wearing a nightgown. Somehow, her presence was still majestic and distinct from the others, something Jaune couldn't help but admire.
Despite everything, Jaune took a deep breath, taking his time to relax. He knew he could enjoy the view, but it was better to stay in control. He didn't want to do anything stupid or make anyone uncomfortable. Finally, he moved forward to where Ruby and Yang were standing, preparing to listen to what Ruby had to say.
"Well, I'm making letters for my friends in signal" She smiled, for that kind gesture and asked.
"So, Ruby, you're writing letters to your friends at Signal? That's really nice."
Ruby nodded with a warm smile. "Yes, I like to keep in touch with everyone, even if I'm away from home. I feel like it's a way for me not to miss out on everything going on in their lives."
Jaune watched her, admiring how genuine Ruby was. Something about her gesture touched him deeply, especially her desire to stay connected with her friends. It was something he also wished he could do, but with his sisters. However, memories of the tense discussion with his mother came back to his mind. He remembered when he told her he wanted to study away from home, he never mentioned to her that his real intention was to become a hunter. He dared not tell her, fearful that she would be even more upset, besides his mother, he would have to stay with his sisters, he had hoped that even though he was gone, his sisters would have a real mother figure, not a forced father figure, as he felt he was. But before he could delve any deeper into those thoughts, Yang's voice interrupted him.
"What happened to that sad face, Vomit boy, did some girl just reject you?" joked Yang with a smirk.
Jaune paused for a moment, considering whether he should answer truthfully. After all, there was nothing wrong with admitting the truth. With a sigh, he answered.
"I'm just missing my little sisters. I wonder how they are doing right now," he said with a note of sadness evident in his voice.
Yang's playful expression gave way to one of surprise.
"So you're a big brother. Tell me, what are your younger sisters' names?"
As if a switch had been flipped, Jaune's melancholy vanished. A genuine smile lit up his face as he pulled out his wallet, revealing a picture of three blonde girls smiling together. His gaze softened as he looked at the photo, radiating an affection that he could not hide.
"The one in the black dress is named Noir, she's ten years old. She pretends to have a dark personality because she thinks she's cool, but in reality she loves everything cute, especially dogs. The one in the middle is twelve years old and her name is Bleu. She's a girl with a sunny disposition, loves spending time with her sisters, and adores her pet turtle. The last one is named Blac; she is Noir's twin. She has a sweet personality, is always looking to help everyone around her and thinks Noir is the coolest girl in the world. She also loves Pumpkin Pete very much," Jaune said, hinting at the deep affection and pride he felt for his sisters.
He let himself go, immersed in the stories of his little sisters, until Yang interrupted him with a soft smile.
"It's okay, big brother. I can tell you love your sisters very much - you're very close to them, aren't you?"
Jaune nodded, lowering his gaze with a mixture of modesty and affection.
"Yes, I've been with them most of the time. They are my greatest pride. Sorry for talking so much, sometimes I can be a little intense," he said as he scratched the back of his head, embarrassed for spreading himself too thin.
Yang smiled warmly at him, making Jaune feel more comfortable.
"Don't apologize. Like you said to Ruby, hearing someone speak with such passion is great. Besides, I think it's sweet that you speak so lovingly about them. They are so lucky to have you as a brother," she assured her with an appreciative smile.
Ruby, who had been listening attentively, interjected cheerfully.
"Yes, Jaune, it was great to see you talk like that. It was nice, like when I talk about guns," she added with a beaming smile.
Jaune, hearing those words, averted his gaze as a slight blush took over his face. With a sincere smile, she replied:
"If anyone is lucky, it's me to have them as sisters."
Yang, with a sly and amused smile, did not miss the opportunity to make a joke.
"So, big brother, do you want to swap embarrassing stories with this big sister?"
The proposal caused Jaune to smile mischievously, turning his gaze to Ruby, who now wore an expression of utter terror.
"I'd love to do that, big sister," Jaune replied, ready to jump in. However, just as he was about to start telling something, Ruby hastily interrupted them, clearly wanting to change the subject.
"Guys! There's the girl who helped me with Weiss. Come with me to thank her," he said quickly, pointing towards a nearby figure.
Before they could say anything else, Ruby strided toward a girl in a yukata. As she arrived in front of her, her expression of insecurity quickly changed to one of determination as she began to speak.
"Hi, I'm Ruby, the girl you helped. I wanted to say thank you for your help," she said with a somewhat nervous, but sincere smile.
The black-haired girl barely looked up from her book and replied, dryly.
"Ok."
Without further ado, his attention returned to the book in his hands.
Jaune noticed the reaction, somewhat cold, while Ruby, without giving up, looked for Yang's help with her eyes. It was then that her older sister decided to intervene.
"What's your name?" asked Yang, trying to break the ice.
The black-haired woman looked up, visibly annoyed, and replied curtly.
"Blake."
Without waiting for another word, he returned to his book.
Yang, trying to keep the conversation alive, tried a friendlier approach.
"Well, Blake, I'm Yang, Ruby's big sister...and I like your bow tie," she said with a somewhat strained smile. Then she added, in a forced tone, "It goes great with your pajamas."
Blake, without looking away from his book, simply said.
"Sure."
Yang did not give up.
"Nice night, don't you think?" This time his voice sounded more desperate.
Blake looked up for a moment, with an expression of growing irritation, and replied.
"Yes, it's lovely, almost as lovely as this book which I will continue to read as soon as they are gone."
Yang sighed, dropping his shoulders as he muttered.
"Yes, this girl is a lost cause."
Jaune couldn't help but agree, although he felt somewhat uncomfortable with the situation. But Ruby, with her unwavering optimism, didn't seem willing to give up.
"What's your book about?" she asked curiously.
Blake raised an eyebrow, surprised by Ruby's persistence. After a brief silence, Ruby repeated the question with the same energy.
"What's your book about?"
Finally, Blake responded.
"It's about a man with two souls, both fighting for control of the body."
Yang, bored, commented without much interest.
"Yes, that really is lovely."
Ruby, on the other hand, flashed a sincere smile.
"I love books! Yang used to read to me every night before going to sleep. Stories of heroes, monsters... They're one of the reasons I want to be a hunter."
Blake looked up for a moment, as if weighing Ruby's words, before responding sarcastically.
"And why is that, are you hoping to live out a happily ever after ending?"
Jaune couldn't help but frown. Blake's response seemed unnecessarily curt. Ruby was just trying to be nice, to make a new friend. However, her thoughts were interrupted by Ruby's determined voice.
"I hope we all do. When I was a kid, I wanted to be like the heroes in books. Someone who would fight for what's good and protect those who can't protect themselves."
Blake looked at her with a mixture of skepticism and curiosity before responding, in a cooler tone.
"That's very noble, but unfortunately the real world is not a fairy tale."
Ruby was undeterred. With a determined smile, she replied.
"Well, that's why we're here, to make it better."
Jaune couldn't help but look at her friend with admiration. At that moment, Ruby really looked like a heroine out of a fairy tale.
Yang, like any good big sister, enveloped her in a hug, congratulating her effusively. However, Ruby, embarrassed by the gesture, began to hit her with her clenched fists. Thanks to the aura, none of the blows caused any real damage, but the little "confrontation" between sisters began to attract attention.
Jaune was about to intervene to stop them, but a loud shout from Weiss overtook him. Both sisters stopped immediately, quickly apologizing for the disturbance. After saying goodbye to the raven-haired girl, they returned to their place, with Ruby visibly pensive.
Jaune noticed her expression and wanted to cheer her up. He remembered that he had packed a package of chocolate cookies and a thermos of milk, something he used to bring to comfort or reward his little sisters. Perhaps she was being too indulgent with them, but she liked to think that those little gestures made them happy. Now, perhaps, those same cookies could cheer Ruby up.
"Ruby, don't worry so much. You managed to socialize with Blake; she's just a difficult person. Also, your speech about fairy tales was impressive. You sounded like a real hero."
When he finished speaking, he noticed that Ruby was blushing, hiding her face in her hands. Next to her, Yang was looking at him with a smirk, enjoying the moment.
"Well," Jaune continued, scratching the back of his neck, "to reward you for your effort, I have cookies and mil-."
He hadn't finished speaking when Ruby was already in front of him with a huge smile on her face.
"Cookies! I love them! They are the best food in the world, and my favorite are the chocolate ones. Tell me, my new best friend, where are those cookies?"
Jaune blinked, nervous at Ruby's sudden energy. He hadn't anticipated her being such a fan of cookies. Before he knew it, she was grabbing him by the shoulders, shaking him lightly as she demanded his prized cookies.
"Come on, Jaune! As your best friend, it's your duty to give them to me."
Jaune averted his gaze to Yang, looking for some help, but she simply smiled and raised her parchment to take a picture of them. He was alone in front of this cookie-eater.
"They're among my things, so..." Jaune tried to explain himself, but he couldn't finish. Ruby had already grabbed his arm and was running with him to where his sleeping bags were.
When she finally let go, Jaune opened his mouth to tell her to be more careful, but the words got caught in his throat. His gaze met Ruby's, who was smiling at him with such pure happiness, he really couldn't ruin this moment.
Jaune quickly turned to his backpack, rummaging around until he found the cookies and the thermos full of milk. In doing so, he also noticed a book of fairy tales he had packed. With the three items in hand, he approached Ruby and handed her the cookies. She took them eagerly and began to eat immediately, but was interrupted by her older sister's firm voice.
"Ruby, what do we say when someone gives us something?"
Ruby, with a mouthful of cookies, barely managed to mumble.
"Thank you, Jaune."
The scene was so adorable that Jaune couldn't help but giggle with delight. In that instant, she thought Ruby would definitely get along with her little sisters. Smiling, she pulled out the thermos.
"Here, Ruby. Here's milk to go with the cookies."
Ruby, her eyes shining like stars, accepted the thermos and took a big gulp.
"Your milk is delicious, Jaune!" she exclaimed enthusiastically.
Jaune took a moment to process her words, and when he did, he felt the heat rise to his face. The blush on her cheeks did not go unnoticed by Yang, who let out a laugh. And, as expected, she didn't miss the opportunity to make things worse.
"Ruby, can you pass me Jaune's milk?" said Yang, reaching out for the thermos.
Ruby handed it to her without thinking, and Yang took a sip, pretending to taste it.
"Really your milk is delicious, big brother. I would love to drink it all day long."
Yang's mocking tone and mischievous smile made Jaune turn even redder, as she laughed out loud. Ruby, on the other hand, looked at her curiously, but quickly shrugged her shoulders and went back to focusing on her cookies.
"I hate you, Yang. I really, really hate you," Jaune muttered, not hiding his exasperation.
Yang patted him on the back, still laughing.
"This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, vomit boy."
Jaune sighed and stepped back, leaving Yang to enjoy her victory. When she looked again, she saw that Ruby had finished the bag of cookies and was now staring at the book in her hands. With an idea in mind, she held it out to him.
"Ruby, I have here the story of The Rusty Knight, would you like me to read it to you before bed?"
Ruby froze for a moment, and Jaune began to doubt whether it had been a good idea. Maybe she would think he was treating her like a child. But then, her eyes lit up with excitement.
"I'd love to! Give me a moment to settle in."
Within seconds, Ruby was already in her sleeping bag, looking up at him expectantly. Jaune's smile widened at her excitement, and he sat down next to her. Clearing his throat, he began to read the story of one of Remnant's great heroes.
Halfway through the story, he heard some soft snoring. Turning around, he saw that Ruby had fallen asleep, cuddled and carefully, he made sure to tuck her in tightly. When he looked up, he noticed that Yang was also watching Ruby, but with an expression full of love and tenderness.
"Thank you, Jaune. You really managed to cheer her up," Yang said with a motherly smile. Then, as she turned to her own sleeping bag, she gave him one last look and added, "Good night, Vomit boy."
Jaune smiled to himself, returning to his place. he lay down and, looking at the ceiling, couldn't help but think that day had been really great. Tomorrow he would begin his journey to become a hunter, but, for now, he was happy to have found his new friends.
