December 16: Greenery

From W. Y. Traveller - Doorway

Mrs. Hudson stood back on the sidewalk and took a critical look at her front door. Yes, it was an improvement over her usual festive decorating efforts.

"A worthy purchase after all!"

The young salesman had knocked on her back door a month earlier. He was selling custom metal brackets and hangers for Christmas garlands, wreaths, and greenery for a local church charity. "No more will people have to drive nails into their doors, walls, ceiling, and moldings. With this hardware, you will have better and more secure methods for hanging wreaths, garlands, evergreen boughs, and Christmas decorations of all sorts. Your creativity will be enhanced, and the result of your work will be protected from blowing away in the wind. When the season is over, it all comes down, nice and neat, with no holes in walls or doors…"

The equipment was sturdy enough and looked clever. It was a wonder that someone hadn't come up with the idea years before. Best of all, the price was right too, especially if she included the hangers designed to hang branches and garlands over the mantlepiece. In the end, she bought the full outdoor set, a set of wall brackets for her hall foyer, and two of the mantlepiece hangers: one for her, and one for her two upstairs tenants. Doctor Watson would appreciate the improvement and extra convenience, even if Holmes would likely remain indifferent.

Now, with the door bracket up, and a large wreath hung, along with the special fasteners for her stair rails holding some holly and evergreen branches, her doorway and entrance looked neat, crisp, and oh so festive. Ready for the holidays!

"Quite an improvement!"

With the outdoor arrangements completed to her satisfaction, it was time to work on her foyer.

"Deck the halls with boughs of holly indeed!"

Martha Hudson was in her Christmas element. Let the season begin!

(The end.)

Author's Note: I decided to write a short one, as this response pretty much wrote itself.
