The finals of the Vytal Festival tournament were underway, and the stands surrounding the coliseum buzzed with energy. Team RWBY and Team JNPR sat together, their eyes glued to the massive screens displaying the arena below. In the arena, the dust had barely settled as Penny Polendina raised her arms in triumph, her mechanical biceps flexing with exaggerated gusto and a triumphant grin plastered across her face.

The crowd erupted into cheers, but one voice among the group of students refused to join in.

"We could totally kick her butt too," Nora muttered under her breath, her arms crossed as she sank into her seat with a petulant pout. Her sharp gaze stayed fixed on Penny, as if imagining the myriad ways she would take her down in a fight.

"Come on, Nora," Ren sighed, glancing sideways at her. "It's been days. Don't you think it's time to let it go?"

"No!" Nora shot back, flinging her arms out dramatically. "We were robbed! ROBBED, I tell you!" Her volume drew a few curious stares from nearby spectators, but she paid them no mind. "They knew we'd destroy the competition, so they booted us out before we even got to show off our stuff!"

"Nora…" Ren's voice carried a hint of weariness, but the faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth betrayed his amusement.

"I'm just saying," Nora huffed, sitting upright with renewed vigor. "She's cool and all with her laser beams and spinning sword thingies, but we could've wiped the floor with her!"

Ruby, sitting nearby, turned to face the argument, her silver eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "Are you kidding? Penny's awesome! Did you see the way she sliced through that weapon in the semifinals? That was SO cool!"

"I mean, yeah, it was impressive," Yang Xiao Long added, leaning back with a grin and propping her feet up on the railing in front of her. "But she's got a huge advantage, right? She's a robot. I don't think she even gets tired."

"She's an android," Blake corrected without looking up from her book. "Not a robot."

"Big difference," Weiss chimed in, her tone sharp. "But don't forget, Penny's strength isn't just in her mechanics. She's strategic and disciplined, which is more than I can say for certain other individuals." Her icy gaze shifted to Nora.

Nora stuck her tongue out at Weiss, completely unbothered.

Meanwhile, Jaune, Pyrrha, and Ren were now sitting a little apart, engrossed in their own conversation. The three were analyzing Penny's performance with a seriousness that contrasted sharply with the playful bickering around them.

"If we ever had to fight her," Pyrrha mused, tapping her chin thoughtfully, "we'd need a way to counter her beams. She can overwhelm her opponents with sustained ranged attacks, and her swords give her excellent close-range coverage."

"True," Ren agreed, folding his arms. "But she relies heavily on her ability to outlast her opponents. If we can keep moving and force her to divide her focus, we could create an opening. Jaune, your Semblance could be key here."

Jaune raised an eyebrow. "What, tank her lasers? That sounds like a bad idea."

Ren tilted his head thoughtfully. "You've done it before."

"Yeah, against regular laser beams!" Jaune retorted. "Not Penny Polendina beams."

Pyrrha smiled faintly. "Still, you have a knack for drawing attention. If you charged forward while we flanked her—"

"Hey, I'm not just bait!" Jaune interrupted, his cheeks flushing slightly. "I'm a leader, thank you very much."

"Of course," Pyrrha said, her green eyes sparkling with amusement. "And a very brave one at that."

Ren chuckled softly. "We're just saying you'd survive it."

"Ever since the train thing, it's like you guys want me to become a meat shield," Jaune sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I think I liked it better when we were talking about strategy."

From the other side of their group, Nora leaned in, her voice brimming with excitement. "Are we talking about beating Penny? Count me in! I'll just whack her with Magnhild until she explodes!"

Pyrrha looked at her teammate with a raised eyebrow. "That's… certainly one approach."

"That would be murder, Nora," Ren noted.

"I mean it metaphorically. You gotta admit though, it might be an effective approach," Nora declared, grinning broadly.

"You're still upset about not being in the tournament, aren't you?" Jaune asked, crossing his arms.

"Upset?" Nora gasped, clutching her chest as though the accusation physically hurt her. "I'm offended! This is our year, fearless leader! We've been training, kicking butt, and taking names! And then they just… exclude us? How is that fair?"

Pyrrha sighed. "As frustrating as it is, they have a point. Our record does make us a little... intimidating. If anything, they might have worried about the safety of the other teams. We can quote, kick ass and take names."

"See!? Pyrrha agrees with me," Nora waved a dismissive hand. "They're just scared we'd embarrass them. Admit it, Jaune. You think so too."

"I think…" Jaune paused, glancing at Pyrrha and Ren, "...we need to find a way to distract you before you go on a rampage."

Ren nodded solemnly. "Agreed. This has gone on long enough."

"Excuse me?" Nora huffed, putting her hands on her hips. "I'm perfectly calm, thank you very much."

As if to prove them wrong, her stomach growled loudly. The sound drew a chorus of laughter from the group, with Ruby doubling over and Weiss letting out an exasperated sigh.

"Maybe we should start with food," Jaune said with a chuckle. "That usually works."

"I'll allow it," Nora conceded with a dramatic sigh. "But only because I need energy for my next plan of action."

"And what plan is that?" Pyrrha asked, though her tone was more amused than concerned.

"To convince Beacon to hold a rematch tournament!" Nora declared, raising a fist in the air. "One where we can actually participate!"

Jaune shook his head, a grin spreading across his face. "You never give up, do you?"

"Never!" Nora said proudly.

As the group's laughter settled, their attention shifted back to the arena. Penny had finished her victory lap and was now addressing the cheering crowd, her voice bright and full of enthusiasm.

"I'd like to dedicate this win to my amazing friends!" Penny announced, her words ringing out across the stadium. "Thank you for all your support! I couldn't have done it without you!"

Ruby shot to her feet, cupping her hands around her mouth. "We love you, Penny!" she shouted at the top of her lungs, her voice echoing through the coliseum.

"Speak for yourself," Nora muttered under her breath, though there was no real malice in her tone. "I want a match!"

Pyrrha smiled, her gaze softening as she watched the android bask in her victory. "She's worked hard for this. She deserves the recognition."

"She does," Jaune agreed. "And honestly? I think we would've had our hands full with her."

"Maybe," Ren said, his tone neutral. "But it would've been interesting to find out if you can tank her lasers too."

"Ren… brother… I don't tempt fate," Jaune sighed.

As the group continued to chat, the excitement of the tournament finals gradually began to fade. The matches were over, and Beacon's students were left with a sense of pride and for some, a touch of disappointment.

Team RWBY and Team JNPR found themselves at a quaint restaurant near the Beacon's grounds after the Vytal Festival finals. The energy in the air remained high despite the conclusion of the matches, and the group had decided to unwind with food and conversation.

At the center of attention, Nora was poking at Penny with a barrage of oddly personal questions, her wide grin and boundless energy unrelenting.

"So, Penny," Nora began, leaning forward with exaggerated curiosity, "what do you eat? Do you even eat? Oh! And do you, you know... poop or pee?"

The table went dead silent for a moment before Pyrrha slowly closed her eyes, a serene smile forming on her lips. With that deceptive calm, she turned to face Nora.

"Nora," Pyrrha began sweetly, "while Penny might find your questions entertaining, I feel it's important that we maintain a sense of decorum."

Nora froze, her wide grin faltering as beads of sweat formed on her forehead. "O-of course, Pyrrha!" she stammered, sliding back in her seat, only to yelp as Pyrrha's Semblance kicked in, lifting her slightly off the ground.

"Apologize," Pyrrha said, still smiling.

"Whaaaa! Forgive meeeee!" Nora flailed her arms and legs as she floated midair, her cries earning chuckles from the surrounding patrons. "Guys! A little help here?"

Jaune looked up from the corner of the table, deliberately fixating on one of Penny's swords. "You know, Penny, these are really cool. How sharp are they?"

Ren, meanwhile, took a slow sip from his cup of tea, his expression as stoic as ever. "I think it's best if I stay out of this."

"Etu, RWBY? Etu, JNPR?" Nora wailed dramatically, still hovering.

Ruby, sitting on the other side, was barely containing her laughter. "Sorry, Nora, you kinda brought this on yourself."

"Totally did," Yang added with a grin, giving Pyrrha a thumbs-up.

Blake tilted her book slightly to peek at the scene, her amber eyes twinkling with amusement. "For once, I agree with them."

At the head of the table, Weiss sighed loudly, her arms crossed. "This is ridiculous. How did this turn into me paying the bill?"

"Because you're loaded," Yang chimed in, earning a glare from Weiss.

"That's not the point!" Weiss snapped. "You're all capable of paying for yourselves."

"Come on, Weiss," Ruby teased. "You're rich. This is, like, pocket change for you, right?"

Weiss opened her mouth to argue but promptly shut it, her cheeks puffing in frustration. "Fine," she muttered. "But you all owe me."

"Um, Pyr, can you lower her now? You might hit some customers," Jaune said, gesturing with his hands.

Pyrrha twirled Nora around gently before lowering her to the ground, earning a relieved sigh from the girl.

"Thank you, fearless leader," Nora said, quickly hiding behind Jaune.

"Hey, don't drag me into this!" Jaune exclaimed, though the grin tugging at his lips betrayed his amusement.

As the group settled back into their banter, Penny spoke up, her tone cheerful. "I don't mind the questions, really. I'm just happy to spend time with all of you."

Nora peeked out from behind Jaune, her mischievous grin returning. "See? Penny's cool with it!"

Pyrrha raised an eyebrow but said nothing, her smile warm but warning. The silent message was clear: behave.

The conversation flowed naturally, with Ruby excitedly recounting Penny's victory during the finals. The group's chatter turned into playful arguments about who would have fared better in a fight against her.

"We would've wiped the floor with her," Nora declared, folding her arms confidently.

"You mean I would've wiped the floor with her," Pyrrha corrected gently, earning laughter from everyone.

Ren glanced at Nora, a small smirk forming on his otherwise stoic face. "And how long are you planning to keep complaining about not being in the tournament?"

"Forever," Nora replied dramatically, drawing a loud laugh from Yang.

As the day slowly settled over Beacon Academy, the groups of students made their way back to campus. The camaraderie from the restaurant lingered, filling the air with warm laughter and lighthearted chatter. The Vytal Festival might have concluded, but its echoes of celebration still resonated.

Nora, who had dramatically declared her tournament grudge would last "forever," had apparently forgotten it after Penny offered a truce and flew her around.

"Come on, Penny, just one more lap!" Nora pleaded as Penny's thrusters lifted her off the ground. The mechanical girl complied with a grin, holding Nora securely as they soared in a wide arc around Beacon's main courtyard. Nora's delighted laughter echoed across the grounds.

"Why did I let this happen?" Ren muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose as he watched his childhood friend zip through the sky.

"They're bonding," Jaune said with a shrug, though he was smiling. "Besides, it's... kind of cute."

Pyrrha chuckled. "Until Nora convinces Penny to fly her into the cafeteria for a snack drive by."

Jaune groaned. "Don't give her ideas."

Meanwhile, the rest of the group had settled into smaller conversations by the fountain. Ruby and Yang were deep in discussion with Blake and Weiss, all leaning against the stone railing.

"I still can't believe it how time flies," Ruby said, her silver eyes wide with wonder.

"It feels like just yesterday we were fighting Nevermores in initiation," Yang agreed, her tone tinged with nostalgia.

Weiss adjusted her posture, brushing imaginary dust off her pristine uniform. "It's about time. I, for one, am looking forward to a well-deserved break."

Blake quirked an eyebrow. "Going back to Atlas?"

Weiss nodded. "Of course. There are... expectations. My family will want me there for the holidays."

Yang grinned mischievously. "Oh, Blake should go with you! She could use a little Schnee family hospitality."

Weiss shot her a glare. "That would go so well, I'm sure."

Blake crossed her arms. "Actually, Yang's coming with me to Menagerie."

"What?!" Yang's eyes went wide, her grin vanishing. "I thought we were joking about that!"

Blake smirked. "Oh no. You're coming. Someone needs to explain why I ran off to Beacon instead of staying in Menagerie."

"You can handle that!" Yang protested, waving her arms.

"Nope," Blake said simply. "You're my plus-one."

Ruby giggled. "You're doomed, Yang."

Jaune, overhearing from a few steps away, glanced at Ren. "What about you guys? Any plans for the break?"

Ren hesitated before speaking, his voice softer than usual. "Nora and I were thinking of visiting our hometown. We... wanted to pay our respects."

Jaune nodded, understanding the unspoken weight behind Ren's words. "That sounds like a good idea. Let me know if you need anything."

"Thanks," Ren said quietly, the corners of his mouth lifting in a faint smile.

Pyrrha leaned closer to Jaune. "And you? Any plans?"

"I haven't decided yet," Jaune admitted. "Maybe I'll head back home. Or just visit my sister, Saphron in Argus. It's been a while since I've seen my family."

Pyrrha smiled warmly. "That sounds nice. You deserve a break. Well, if you ever decided to go to Argus, how about we go together?"

Above them, Penny's thrusters powered down as she landed gracefully, setting Nora back on solid ground. Nora immediately struck a dramatic pose. "Best flight ever!" she declared. "You're amazing, Penny."

"Thank you!" Penny beamed, her enthusiasm as infectious as ever. "You were a great passenger."

Ren sighed audibly. "At least she didn't fly into the cafeteria."

Nora turned to Pyrrha, clasping her hands together with exaggerated innocence. "See? Totally responsible."

Pyrrha raised an eyebrow but said nothing, her silence speaking volumes. Nora sheepishly backed away, grinning.

Weiss crossed her arms and gave Nora a pointed look. "You owe me for the bill by the way."

"Oh, come on, Ice Queen," Nora said, waving a hand dismissively. "I'll pay you back... eventually."

Weiss rolled her eyes but didn't press the matter further. "Honestly, I don't know how you people function."

"With a lot of optimism!" Ruby chimed in, grinning.

Weiss sighed dramatically. "Clearly."

As the group began to wind down for the night, Jaune leaned against the railing of the fountain, staring out at the twinkling lights of Vale in the distance. The conversations around him faded into background noise as his thoughts wandered.

Their first year felt surreal. So much had happened in a short while. Missions, battles, revelations and yet, he felt like he was still at the beginning of a much larger journey. The weight of responsibility pressed on his shoulders, but so too did the bonds he had formed with his team and friends.

"Penny's pretty great, huh?" Pyrrha's voice brought him back to the present.

Jaune turned to her, smiling. "Yeah. She's something else."

Pyrrha tilted her head slightly, studying him. "You're thinking about something."

"Just... everything," Jaune admitted. "The year so far, the missions, the future."

Pyrrha nodded, her expression thoughtful. "It's a lot to take in."

"Yeah." Jaune looked out at the city again. "But with you guys around. It makes it easier."

Pyrrha's smile was warm. "It does, doesn't it?"

Nora's voice broke through the moment as she bounded over. "Okay, team leader, what's the plan for tomorrow? Are we gonna train? Hunt Grimm? Fly with Penny again?"

Jaune laughed. "Let's just focus on getting some rest tonight, Nora."

"Boring!" Nora teased, but her grin showed she didn't mind.

As the night deepened, the group began to drift apart, each heading back to their dorms. The soft glow of Beacon's lights illuminated their paths, and the quiet hum of the campus at night provided a soothing backdrop.

Jaune lingered for a moment longer by the fountain, watching the others leave. Pyrrha paused at the edge of the courtyard, glancing back at him. "Coming?"

"Yeah," Jaune said, pushing off the railing. "Let's go."

Together, they walked back toward their dorms.

The end of their first year at Beacon had come with surprising swiftness. Time seemed to slip away amidst lectures, sparring matches, and late nights spent studying alongside his team. Days blurred into weeks, and before he realized it, the semester had come to an end.

Standing at the Cliffside airship docks, Jaune watched as the usual buzz of student life gave way to heartfelt goodbyes and hurried farewells. The air was filled with the hum of engines, the voices of students calling to one another, and the promise of time spent away from the academy's routine.

Yang stood nearby, her arms crossed in exaggerated frustration, a small duffel slung over her shoulder. "I still can't believe I let you talk me into this," she said, directing her grumble at Blake Belladonna.

Blake, standing with her own bag slung casually over one shoulder, raised an eyebrow. "You promised, remember?"

Yang sighed, relenting with a smirk. "Yeah, yeah, fine. But you're explaining to your parents why I tagged along."

Ruby , standing a short distance away, laughed at the exchange. She twirled her scythe in its compacted form before tucking it away. "You're gonna love Menagerie, Yang! Maybe I'll visit sometime, but for now, Patch is calling my name."

Nearby, Nora was practically bouncing with excitement as she tightened the straps on her bag. "It's going to be so good to visit home again! Maybe this time, we'll find a few new recipes, Ren!"

Ren, ever composed, gave a small nod. "We'll also stop by to pay respects. It's been a while."

Pyrrha , poised and calm, stood with Weiss Schnee. The heiress had generously invited her to join the flight to Argus, where Weiss's airship would make a stop before heading to Atlas. "Thank you for offering," Pyrrha said with a small bow of gratitude. "It's convenient for both of us."

Weiss smiled faintly. "It's no trouble. Besides, I think my family will enjoy meeting you. And who knows? Maybe I'll like Argus enough to stay a while."

Jaune stood apart from the bustle, his bag slung over his shoulder. Though he'd made plans to visit some places before heading to Argus himself, the prospect of seeing everyone scatter was oddly sobering. One by one, his friends stepped aboard their airships, their laughter and conversation trailing behind them as the engines roared to life.

"See you soon, Jaune!" Ruby called out, waving enthusiastically as her airship lifted off.

Jaune waved back, his smile warm but tinged with a quiet melancholy. He remained behind, standing still as the dock cleared out. The skyline of Vale stretched out before him, the sun dipping lower on the horizon and casting the city in hues of gold and crimson.

He lingered for a while, his thoughts caught between the memories of the semester and the uncertainty of what lay ahead. The breeze at the docks was cool, carrying with it the scent of the Emerald forest. As the airship he rode in disappeared into the horizon, Jaune turned away and began making his way down the winding path toward the city. The streets of Vale were as lively as ever, bustling with people moving to and fro. Jaune walked slowly, taking in the sights with an almost aimless pace. He blended easily into the crowd, his hood pulled up. As he neared the outskirts of the city, the noise began to fade. Buildings gave way to open roads lined with trees, their leaves swaying gently in the evening breeze. The path ahead was quiet, devoid of travelers or passing vehicles. It was here, amidst the stillness, that Jaune paused.

He whispered a single word, "Juniper."

From the shadows of the trees, there was a rustling, and then a gentle glow of golden light. Multi-colored leaves appeared, drifting lazily to the ground before vanishing as a large Jackalope stepped into view. Her antlers shimmered faintly, and her fur caught the light like spun gold.

"Hey, girl," Jaune greeted softly, relaxing as Juniper approached. She nuzzled against him, her warm presence a comfort. "How are you doing? Wanna travel with me for a while?"

Juniper tilted her head as if considering his words, her intelligent eyes meeting his.

Jaune smiled, patting her side gently. "I know you want to stay by Master's grave, but... maybe a little vacation won't hurt, huh?"

His thoughts drifted briefly to his master, the Rusted Knight. His mentor had chosen to rest. Honestly, Jaune wasn't entirely sure if his master had ascended or merely chosen a quiet place to sleep. Or perhaps he was waiting for a call that would never come.

Juniper gave a low, approving rumble, lowering herself so Jaune could climb onto her back.

"That's our girl," he murmured, mounting her smoothly.

With a pat of encouragement, Juniper began to move. Her strides were graceful and fluid, carrying them forward into the fading light of day. The forest paths were serene, the quiet punctuated by the occasional rustle of leaves or distant calls of wildlife. Juniper moved effortlessly, her antlers glinting faintly in the twilight. Jaune leaned slightly forward, his hand resting on her neck as he scanned their surroundings.

"This feels... familiar," he said aloud, his voice barely above a whisper. "Almost like old times, right?"

Juniper's ears twitched in response, and Jaune chuckled softly.

As they traveled deeper into the wilderness, the world seemed to shift. The air grew cooler, the shadows longer, and the trees seemed to press closer together. Jaune's thoughts wandered as they rode, memories of Beacon and his friends mingling with echoes of his training in the Everafter.

His master's voice came unbidden to his mind. "Caution is not weakness, Jaune. It is wisdom. But wisdom alone will not win your battles. You must temper it with resolve."

The words were a comfort and a reminder. He had come far since his initiation at Beacon, but the path ahead was still uncertain.

Juniper suddenly paused, her ears swiveling as she sniffed the air. Jaune straightened, his hand moving instinctively to Crocea Mors.

"What is it, girl?" he asked, his tone low and cautious.

The Jackalope's muscles tensed, but after a moment, she relaxed, giving a soft snort as if to say false alarm.

Jaune exhaled, his hand falling away from his weapon. "You're keeping me on my toes, huh?"

Juniper flicked her tail in response and resumed their journey. As the first stars began to appear in the night sky, Jaune and Juniper reached a clearing by a gentle stream. The water flowed quietly over smooth stones, and the air was filled with the soft hum of crickets.

Jaune dismounted, stretching his legs as he took in the peaceful scene. "This looks like a good spot for the night."

Juniper settled near the stream, folding her legs beneath her as Jaune began to unpack a small bundle of supplies. He lit a modest fire, its warm glow casting flickering shadows across the clearing.

Sitting cross-legged by the flames, Jaune leaned back on his hands and gazed upward. The sky was a canvas of stars, their light undisturbed by the city's glow. It was a sight he rarely had the chance to appreciate, and he allowed himself a moment to simply... be.

"You miss him too, don't you?" Jaune asked quietly, his eyes still on the sky.

Juniper's ears flicked, and she turned her gaze toward him, her golden eyes reflective.

Jaune smiled faintly. "Yeah... me too."

The fire crackled softly, its warmth seeping into the cool night air. Jaune's thoughts wandered once more. His master was right as usual… Beacon truly was a fun place despite all the troubles the Academy was facing.

It wasn't a mistake to come to the place. He had his doubts at first... but meeting his friends were truly a blessing.

He had to thank his Master for his wisdom.

With a wishful smile, Jaune couldn't wait for the next school year to start.
