Chapter 3
Christian and Taylor rushed toward the elevator when the call dropped. In typical Christian Grey fashion, he started to throw his cell phone against the elevator doors. But, Taylor quickly grabbed Christians hand and closed his hand around the cell phone.
"Sir, there is no time to replace a cellphone so please remain calm." The two men stepped into the elevator and Taylor continued. "When we reach the scene of the accident, we will be in an unsecure environment. There will be police, first responders and other public spectators, in the area. Since there is no public record of your relationship with Miss Steele you need to decide how public want to take this relationship. Someone is bound to recognize you and take pictures or videos of the events that unfold at the accident scene."
Christian ran his hand through his hair and nodded to Taylor in understanding. How did he approach Ana in public and not draw attention to their familiarity with each other?
The few times they had been out in public with Elliott and Kate they had managed to fly under the radar because he had rented out the public places they had gone.
When the elevator doors opened in the lobby Taylor took off at a brisk pace through the lobby and out the front door onto the snow-covered streets. It took a moment for Christian to clear his wayward thoughts and follow in pursuit. The snow was coming down at a very heavy pace as they jogged down the sidewalk toward the stopped traffic, sirens could be heard in the distance as they got within a block of the accident scene.
When they reached the crowd gathering around the wrecked vehicles, Christian and Taylor turned toward each other in shock. What laid before them were two barely recognizable red Audis. They approached the least damaged vehicle first and it found empty. Hoping this car was Ana's Christian began to search the faces of all people gathered in the area.
Taylor, however, rushed to the other vehicle. Several men were trying desperately to open the crushed driver's side door. Taylor hollered out to the bystanders, "I'm a trained medic. Let me check on the driver."
The men desperately trying to open the car door, stepped back to allow Taylor access to the driver. The minute the men stepped away Taylor could tell it was Ana in the driver seat. Glass crunched under his feet as he approached the driver side door. The first thing he spotted was a gash to her forehead and a gaping wound on her shoulder. He quickly opened his backpack and removed a package of sterile gauze. Taking control of the scene he asked the men standing nearby, "Will one of you hold pressure on one of her wounds?" Hoping someone should step up he held out a set of vinyl gloves, and a gauze pad.
"Sure, I can help." a man replied, taking the gloves and gauze from Taylor's outstretched hand.
Christian reached the second vehicle as the bystander helping Taylor began applying pressure to Ana's head wound. The closer he got, his heart skipped to beat. Ana was trapped in the twisted wreckage covered in blood. Her normally pale white skin appearing ashen gray. The large wound on her shoulder was bleeding profusely as Taylor covered it and began applying pressure.
The man holding pressure on the head wound informed Taylor. "She was conscious up until a few minutes ago and appeared to be talking to someone on the phone."
Not knowing how much of the conversation he had heard or would reveal. Christian found his voice and asked Taylor. "What can I do to help?"
"I need someone to see if they can get in on the other side of the car. We need to stabilize her neck."
"I'm on it." Christian yelled as he quickly raced around car. The passenger door opened normally and he climbed inside.
Once settled in the car in a position where he could assist with caring for Ana he asked Taylor. "How do I stabilize her neck?"
Taylor started to hand him a pair of gloves, but he shook his head and yelled. "Just show me how to stabilize her damn neck."
The man surrounding the car all took a small step backward at the harsh command yelled at the man trying to help the driver. Taylor position Christian hands on each side of her neck and told him to simply hold her head steady and keep it from moving around. Also, to be prepared to use a firm hold if she awoke or tried to move.
Christian desperately want to lean in and kiss her forehead but there were to many eyes watching every move that was being made to try and care for her. When the police, fire department and paramedics arrived on the scene and began assessing the situation everyone's attention was momentarily diverted from Ana. Christian took the opportunity lean in to Ana and whisper in her ear. "Please don't leave me Anastasia! Help is here and we will get you out of this car and to hospital soon." He quickly kissed her head above her ear and pulled back.
She didn't open her eyes but for a split second she seemed to smile and softly spoke out his name. "Christian."
While fire fighters brought in equipment to prepare to open the mangled door, paramedics took over Ana's care from Taylor. They positioned and secured a cervical collar around her neck and then told Christian to leave the car. In his loud CEO voice he refused and told them he was not leaving her side. This drew the attention of by-standers and caused the crowd to begin to focus on him. Suddenly cameras were focused more on him than the rescuers trying to free the trapped driver.
Taylor stepped away from the crowd and placed a call. "Welsh, Taylor here, notify PR we have a code red situation developing and it will be requiring all hands on deck."
