Location: The Vale Border – Early Morning
The sun had just begun to rise, casting an amber hue over the landscape as Team RWBY, accompanied by Deadpool, made their way toward the Vale border. The plan was simple: follow the leads they'd gathered and find out where the Wardens had gone. But nothing about this mission felt simple anymore.
As the group walked, Ruby couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching them—just beyond the edge of perception, as if the air itself was holding its breath. She glanced over at her team, seeing similar expressions of unease.
"I don't know about you guys," Yang said, cracking her knuckles, "but I'm itching for a good fight. These Wardens might be all about balance, but I'm about to make things a lot more… unbalanced."
Blake, walking beside her, raised an eyebrow. "We're not here for a fight, Yang. We're here to figure out what they want—and stop them before they can do anything else."
Weiss, who had been silent for most of the walk, finally spoke up. "Blake's right. The Wardens are dangerous, but we need to know more about them. We can't just go in swinging."
Ruby nodded, her eyes focused on the horizon. "We'll figure this out. We have to. For Remnant."
Deadpool, who had been cheerfully twirling his swords, suddenly interrupted. "Oh, don't be so serious, princesses. Where's the fun in that? I mean, yeah, we'll figure it out—while I'm out there having fun making things explode. I might even bring snacks." He reached into his utility belt, pulling out what appeared to be a rubber chicken.
"Ugh," Weiss groaned. "You're impossible."
"Oh, come on, that's the attitude we need to fight evil!" Deadpool said, grinning. "I'm all about morale, y'know? Nothing says 'we're ready to save the world' like a good laugh."
Ruby gave Deadpool a small smile. "You're right. As long as we stay focused, we'll be fine. Let's stick together and figure out what the Wardens are really after."
Location: Abandoned Outpost – Late Afternoon
By the time they reached the abandoned outpost near the Vale border, the group had encountered little resistance. The further they ventured, the more isolated the landscape became, as if the world itself were retreating from them. The outpost stood like a broken relic of a past they had yet to fully understand. Its crumbling walls and overgrown vegetation gave it an eerie, haunted feeling.
"This is it," Ruby said, her voice low as she surveyed the area. "This is where the Wardens were last seen. They've been operating out of places like this for years, hidden in plain sight."
Blake stepped forward, her sharp eyes scanning the ruins. "They've left something behind. A clue, maybe. This place doesn't feel abandoned."
Weiss raised her hand, signaling the group to stop. "Stay alert. We don't know if the Wardens are still here."
As they approached the central building, Deadpool danced around, knocking on walls and making obnoxious noises, clearly bored. "Hello! Anybody home? Knock, knock!"
Ruby shot him a look. "Deadpool, could you please take this seriously for once?"
Deadpool smirked. "I am taking it seriously. Serious fun!" He pulled out a detonator from his belt. "Watch this!"
"NO!" Ruby and Weiss shouted in unison.
Before Deadpool could press the button, the sound of creaking wood interrupted their argument. Everyone froze.
A door creaked open in the distance, and from the shadows emerged a cloaked figure. It was hard to make out any details, but the aura around them was unmistakably familiar.
"Another Warden," Blake muttered.
"Not exactly," the figure said, pulling back their hood. "But I'm not surprised you'd mistake me for one of them."
Ruby's eyes widened. "Who are you?"
The figure revealed themselves fully, and it was a face Ruby hadn't expected to see.
A familiar woman with silver hair and a cold, calculating stare.
"I'm someone who's been watching you for a very long time, Ruby Rose." The woman's voice was calm, but carried an unsettling weight.
Ruby blinked in confusion. "What do you mean? Do we know you?"
"I was there when your mother died. I was there when everything changed. You could say I'm an old friend of your family. Or, at least, I used to be." The woman's eyes narrowed. "But I'm not here to reminisce. I'm here to offer you a choice."
Deadpool leaned in close to Ruby. "Is it just me, or does it feel like we're about to get hit with a twist?"
Ruby turned back to the woman, heart pounding. "What do you want from us?"
The woman stepped forward, her gaze never leaving Ruby's. "What I want is simple. I want to help you understand what the Wardens have been hiding. I want to help you unlock the power they've been trying to suppress."
Ruby's heart skipped a beat. "Unlock the power? What are you talking about?"
The woman's lips curled into a slight smirk. "I'm talking about the truth. The truth about the origins of the Wardens, the ancient powers they've tried to keep under wraps for generations. And you, Ruby Rose, have the key."
Flashback: The Hidden Truth
As Ruby stared at the woman, her words felt like a punch to the gut. The truth about her mother, about the Wardens—it was all starting to connect in ways that terrified her.
I'm talking about the truth.
Suddenly, a sharp image flashed in Ruby's mind—a memory of her mother, Summer Rose, standing at the edge of a cliff. Ruby had been a child then, holding her mother's hand.
"Ruby," Summer had whispered, her voice filled with urgency, "remember this moment. Because one day, the world will need you to make the hardest choice you'll ever face."
Ruby shook her head, pushing the memory aside. "What does this have to do with my mother?"
The woman's gaze softened, but only for a moment. "Everything. The Wardens don't just maintain balance. They protect something far older than their so-called 'order.' Your mother, Summer Rose, was more than a Huntsman. She was part of something much bigger. And now, it's your turn to finish what she started."
Ruby's breath caught in her throat. "Finish what she started?"
The woman's eyes darkened. "The Wardens have been hiding the truth about the ancient powers for generations. Powers that could change everything. Your mother knew of them, and she knew that one day, someone would have to choose between the truth and the balance the Wardens have created."
Weiss crossed her arms, her voice cautious. "And you think Ruby is the one to make that choice?"
The woman's smile didn't reach her eyes. "She is the only one who can."
