After their unexpected return to Traverse Town and sealing the Keyhole, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel cruised through the cosmos in the Gummi Ship when another world has hit their radar.
"Looks like another world for us to visit," Kairi said.
"We might as well go see it for ourselves," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
The Gummi Ship flew towards the world. Upon arriving, they saw it is a shoreline town that's made of two coves: a small one where the town used to be in the past, and a larger one where the town sits. They noticed a lighthouse outside of the town and there is a jungle nearby. Not needing to draw any unwanted attention, they made a landing in the jungle. Unknown to the couple and their partners, a pirate ship is seen out in the distance.
On the pirate ship was Risky Boots looking through her telescope. With her are small, pitch-black, humanoid creatures with hands featuring four clawed fingers and feet featuring three similar clawed toes, yellow eyes, and always wear the same outfit: a red bandana and pants. They have protruding spikes on their backs, presumably forming part of their vertebrae. She laughed.
"They're here. Just as Ganondorf said. We can now proceed with the attack. Tinkerbats, get ready," Risky Boots said. The Tinkerbats get into their positions. They loaded the cannons to launch their attack. "Fire!" The Tinkerbats fired their cannons.
Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel have departed from the Gummi Ship and explored the jungle when cannon fire in front of them, made them stop.
"Where did that come from?" Sora asked.
"Sora, look!" Kairi exclaimed, pointing to the pirate ship out in the distance.
"So now, we're being attacked by pirates?!" Sora exclaimed.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.
"Run for it!" Sora said.
Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel began running for their lives as the cannonballs struck the ground. They managed to dodge the cannons to the best of their abilities. Just then, Heartless appeared and attacked. The attacking Heartless were Pirates and Bandits.
"Heartless!" Kairi exclaimed, summoning her Keyblade.
"We have no choice but to fight them!" Sora said, summoning his Keyblade.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel engaged the Pirates and the Bandits. The couple clashed their blades against the sword-wielding Heartless as Pikachu and Angel attacked with a Quick Attack combo. They fought off the Pirates and the Bandits until they were wiped out.
"At least we know there are Heartless here, too," Kairi said.
"Yeah, but I got a feeling that we'll be against more than Heartless in this world," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said. His and Angel's ears perked up. "Pika!"
"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.
"Angel and Pikachu senses something!" Kairi said. Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel ran through the jungle and they saw a town ahead of them. The town looked like that of an Arabian origin, and it's close to the ocean. They spotted the ship in the distance and they knew that spelled trouble. "Sora, those pirates are gonna attack the town!"
"And that can't be good," Sora said.
Outside of town, there is a lighthouse sitting across a bridge. The pirate ship shoots another cannonball and crashes through the roof.
Just then, a young girl with a very slender build. poked her head out the window. Her outfit consists of sheer harem pants, a bra, and gold jewelry. This look is also known as the red bedlah attire and is the default look in every game, though it does change slightly as well. She has a relatively thin yet curvy figure and is rather short compared to some other characters in the game. Shantae has olive/tan-skin with blue eyes, and long growing purple hair tied up in a ponytail stem stalk.
"What? Not another pirate attack! I better warn Scuttle Town!" The girl said. She ran out the lighthouse and across the bridge. The pirate ship continues to shoot cannonballs at the bridge until she has reached the other side. Another cannonball is fired from the pirate ship, but it was different from the other ones. Just then, the Tinkerbats emerged from inside it and headed right for the town. Risky Boots jumps out after them. "So, you're behind this attack, Risky Boots, the lady-pirate."
"In the flesh. Sorry about your shack, darling! I thought you were a Guardian Genie, not some scrawny kid!" Risky Boots said.
"Hey, the name is Shantae!" Shantae argued.
"Whatever," Risky Boots scoffed. "Well, no matter! Gotta haul booty and find that Keyhole!" She laughed before she took off. Shantae felt her blood boil.
"Ooh, she's up to no good, that's for sure! Well, if I'm gonna earn my keep as Scuttle Town's genie, I'd better stop her!" Shantae said. She headed into town, after Risky Boots. She entered the town and the townspeople ran away, screaming from the attacking pirates. Just then, the Heartless appeared along with the Tinkerbats. The Heartless being Bandits, Pirates, Air Pirates, and Cannon Guns. "What the?! What are these things, and where did they come from?" She gets ready to fight them. "Look, whatever you are, you should know who you're dealing with! I'm the Guardian Genie of Scuttle Town, Shantae! And I'll have you know that there are no pirates and monsters allowed here! I'm giving you a chance to get lost and get out of town, right now!" The Heartless didn't comply with her as Sora and Pikachu came and struck down a Bandit and a Pirate. Shantae was surprised by Sora and Pikachu's sudden appearance. Kairi and Angel came along and attacked the Air Pirates and the Cannon Guns.
"You okay?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, but who are you two, and where did you come from?" Shantae asked.
"That'll have to wait until we get these Heartless out of the way!" Sora said.
"Heartless?" Shantae asked.
The Heartless then engaged Sora, Kairi, Shantae, Pikachu, and Angel, so she uses her ponytail as a whip, hitting the Heartless as Sora and Kairi slashed the Heartless with their Keyblades as Pikachu and Angel attacked with Thunderbolt and Swift.
Just then, three Fat Bandits appeared and attacked. The Fat Bandits spat out fireballs and spewed fire their way. The also swung their arms around and punches the ground with flames around their fists. Sora, Kairi, and Shantae finished the Fat Bandits off by striking their heads, eliminating the threat of the Heartless.
"That takes care of them," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
"Gotta hand it to, you two. You sure handled those things. You said they're called Heartless?" Shantae asked.
"Yeah, they're monsters you don't to have around," Sora said.
"You were impressive back there," Kairi said.
"More than impressive. I'm Shantae, the Guardian Genie of Scuttle Town!" Shantae boasted.
"Gaurdian Genie?" Kairi asked.
"You aren't one of those genies who grant wishes?" Sora asked.
"Grant wishes? You're probably thinking of those slave genies who do all that, but a Guardian Genie is a whole different story. But who are you?" Shantae asked.
"I'm Sora, and this is Pikachu," Sora introduced.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"My name's Kairi, and this is Angel," Kairi introduced.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"It's nice to meet you, but what are you even doing here? Why didn't you run out of town with the rest?" Shantae asked.
"We just got here and we saw the Heartless here, so we couldn't just turn a blind eye," Sora said.
"Yeah, this is the second time you mentioned 'Heartless'. Those things are called Heartless?" Shantae asked.
"Yeah. And listen to us when we tell you that they're bad news," Sora said.
"I'll take your word for it. But there isn't time. I have to stop the pirates from attacking," Shantae said.
"Then we'll join up with you, Shantae. You saw how we fought those Heartless," Kairi said.
"After seeing you in action, I can tell you're top-notch fighters. So I can't say no to that. Let's go," Shantae said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Shantae, Pikachu, and Angel joined forces and they engaged the attacking Tinkerbats.
Several Pirates, Air Pirates, Bandits, Fat Bandits, and Red Nocturnes appeared before them to attack. Shantae whipped the Red Nocturnes as Pikachu and Angel swung at the Fat Bandits. Sora and Kairi clashed their Keyblades against the Pirates' swords and slashed through them. Sora jumped and slashed at an Air Pirate.
They made their way through the Heartless as the Tinkerbats came out the cannonballs and attacked. Kairi casts a magnet spell as Pikachu shocked them with a Thunderbolt.
After getting pass the Heartless and the Tinkerbats, cannonballs are being fired at them, so they kept on running. They made their way to a building as two Tinkerbats are carrying out a machine.
"What is that they're carrying?" Kairi asked.
"I don't know," Shantae said. A third Tinkerbat came out and placed a bomb at the front door.
"Hit the deck!" Sora yelled.
Stepping out is an elderly man with large white beard, short white hair, blue headband and sunglasses without nose pads and side. He wears a green jacket with little gold, black shirt, belt, blue jeans and brown boots.
"Ooh, blast those Tinkerbats! Come back here with that, you thieves!" The old man shouted. Shantae ran over to him with concern.
"Mimic! Are you okay?" Shantae asked. The old man roared in anger over what happened.
"Look at what those Tinkerbats did to my workshop! I've got to stop them before they escape with my steam engine!" Mimic exclaimed. Shnatae looked at him, dumbfounded.
"Steam engine? What's a steam engine?" Shantae asked.
"Something tells me that steam engines aren't a regular thing here," Sora whispered to his girlfriend.
"I'll explain later! Right now, we have to get it back!" Mimic exclaimed.
You stay put. I'll handle this!" Shantae said, running off.
"Hey, we're with you, too!" Kairi called out after the genie.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Wait for us!" Sora called out.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
The couple and their partners followed them right to the dock, dealing with the Tinkerbats and Heartless that attacked. They dismissed their Keyblades and then boarded the pirate ship. Pirates surrounded Sora, Kairi, Shantae, Pikachu, and Angel. Risky Boots stepped over the higher level with a cannon aiming at them. Shantae growled when she saw her.
"Risky Boots!" Shantae angrily said.
"That's her?" Kairi asked.
"It's her. Those Tinkerbats can't do a thing without you calling the shots," Shantae said.
"Well, well, well. I thought it'd draw you here, brat. And you got yourself a couple of rugrats and their two powderpuff pets with you," Riksy gloated.
"Rugrats?!" Sora exclaimed, summoning his Keyblade again. Kairi summoned her Keyblade as well.
"Oh, so you're the keyslingers I was told about. I was expecting you to be a tad taller," Risky said, bored. Kairi growled at her, as did Angel.
"Where's the steam engine?" Shantae demanded.
"None of your business! More importantly, you people have been using my sea without paying my fee, and now, you're in a lot of hot water!" Risky said.
"Is this what it's about?!" Sora exclaimed.
"The sea belongs to everyone! Not just you!" Kairi added.
"She's right! The ocean is for everyone to enjoy! Just who do you think you are?" Shantae asked. Risky Boots glared at the trio with a huff.
"Hmph! Let me remind you! I am Risky Boots! I am the Queen of the Seven Seas, and anyone who opposes me will be crushed flat!" Risky proclaimed.
"Well, you're about to be dethroned, Your Royal Pain!" Kairi said.
"Sounds like someone needs to teach you some proper manners, little red. Men! Spank these brats extra hard for mommy!" Riksy Boots ordered. A Tinkerbat came to the cannon and lights the fuse to fire. Cannonballs come flying around, so Sora, Kairi, Shantae, Pikachu, and Angel managed to dodge the cannonballs. The Pirates and Air Pirates came at the Keyblade wielders, but they managed to strike them down as Tinkerbats came out to fight alongside them. Shantae uses her ponytail to whip the Tinkerbats and the engine on Risky's ship. Pikachu and Angel fired Thunderbolt and Swift at the Heartless and Tinkerbats. They struck the engine and an explosion occurred. "YOU IDIOTS!" Risky Boots splahed in the sea as Sora quickly took out a Pokéball and opened it. Sora lands right on Blastoise's shell. He catches Kairi in her arms as Pikachu and Angel land right on Sora's shoulders. Shantae lands on the floating wood, big enough to support her. Tinkerbats opened the sides and attempt to throw barrel bombs at her, but Shantae whipped the Tinkerbats.
"Blastoise! Use Hydro Pump!" Sora ordered. Blastoise fired Hydro Pump on the ship. The Tinkerbats are blasted inside. Risky Boots grabbed the anchor and she's being pulled up.
"I went easy on you this time, genie brat! Next time, I'll be steam-powered and unstoppable! That's if you live that long. And for you two! You'll be sorry that you ever crossed Risky Boots! And I'll find Sequin Land's Keyhole before you! And this world will soon belong to me! I can promise you that!" Risky said, chuckling as she's pulled up. The pirate ship sets sail.
"Keyhole?" Shantae asked.
They make it back to the town before the townspeople, relieved that the pirate and Heartless attack has ceased. Among the crowd is a short fat man in a turban.
"Good job, Shantae! You certainly made short work of those bandits and those monsters. Hiring a town genie was a dandy idea indeed," the man said. Shantae smiled nervously. Sora and Kairi caught on pretty quickly.
"Great. You're welcome," Shantae said. She sighed to herself and said in her thoughts, "Maybe it's time that I told everyone that I'm only a half-genie, and then Scuttle Town would then hire a real Guardian Genie to protect them properly. How did I let things get so screwed up?"
"Is everything okay?" Kairi asked. Shantae looked right at her.
"It's nothing, Kairi. Nothing to worry about," Shantae said in an unconvincing manner. Just then, Mimic walked up to them.
"Shantae, what happened? Where is my steam engine?" Mimic asked.
"Sorry, Mimic, but Risky Boots and her Tinkerbats got away with it. And she's planning to use it to destroy Scuttle Town," Shantae said. "Ooh, if only I were a real genie, I'd show that Risky a thing or two!"
"Hold on, what do you mean by 'if only you were a real genie'?" Sora asked. Shantae froze when she realized what she just said.
"Um... You see, uh..." Shantae stammered, trying to find a good excuse.
"Perhaps I should explain. You see, children, Shantae is a half-genie. She's also half-human," Mimic explained.
"Half-human?" Kairi asked.
"Vee?" Angel asked. Shantae sighed.
"It's true. My father is a human, and my mother is a genie. For as long as I can remember, I lived here with the humans with everyone not knowing what I really am," Shantae said.
"That explains why you're down, isn't it?" Kairi asked.
"What gave that away?" Shantae asked.
"Just something we picked up," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"And here is what I picked up, too. You two are from another world, aren't you?" Mimic asked.
"Huh?" Sora asked.
"How did you know?" Kairi asked.
"I knew from the moment we met. I could tell by the way you're dressed and you have those creatures with you," Mimic said.
"Then, you know about the Keyhole, right?" Sora asked.
"Yes, I do. But I don't know where it is," Mimic said.
"Riksy did mention a Keyhole before. What's so important about that?" Shantae asked.
"The Keyhole is the heart of this world. And we gotta find them and seal them just so the Heartless don't do anything with them. It's to keep them safe," Sora said.
"And since Risky is looking for the Keyhole, I have a feeling that she's working with Ganondorf and Team Rocket," Kairi said.
"You're right. And we gotta find it before they do," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Maybe we could use my genie magic to make it happen," Shantae said.
"I'm afraid it will take more than Genie magic this time," Mimic said.
"Why's that?" Kairi asked.
"Is there something we should know?" Sora asked.
"Let me explain from the beginning..." Mimic paused. "It all started on my last dig when I unearthed an ancient vault. Hidden inside was a diagram of a strange contraption. Here's how the thing works. A steel chamber full of water is heated, like so. The water becomes steam, blasting out the top with enough pressure to turn a wheel indefinitely! Steam-powered muscle like that could change the world! I used the plans to build a steam engine of my own. I was almost done when that vixen swiped it!"
"No wonder she wanted it. And that gives us another reason to stop Risky and find the Keyhole and seal it," Sora said.
"You have any idea where Risky would go?" Kairi asked.
"Hmm... She seemed to be headed towards Water Town. Maybe there's still a chance to get the engine back, and find the Keyhole," Shantae said.
"Water Town will be the first place to look," Sora said.
"Wait, you mean, you're coming with me?" Shantae asked.
"Yeah, because that's what friends do, Shantae," Sora said.
"But we've only just met," Shantae said.
"Well, from what we heard, we know a thing or two about secrets. And we're willing to help out a friend in need," Kairi said.
"Something tells me we're going to get along very well. Let's get to it," Shantae stated.
"Atta girl. You could pick up some supplies before you go. There are dangers up ahead," Mimic said.
Despite learning of Shantae's identity of being a half-genie, Sora and Kairi still befriended her and joined her in finding the steam engine stolen by the self-proclaimed Queen of the Seven Seas, Risky Boots.
