Happy New Year everyone!

Chapter 48: Wake of an Adventurer

Parusa Island – Adventure Square's Infirmary, Night Hours

The moon hung low over the horizon, its silver glow casting a tranquil light across the tropical town of Adventure Square. The warm night breeze rustled the leaves of palm trees that lined the streets, while the waves lapped gently against the docks in the distance. Among the cluster of wooden houses that made up the town, a single building stood at its heart—a modest infirmary.

Inside, the infirmary was quiet save for the faint rustling of curtains swaying in the breeze. On a simple bed in one corner of the room lay a blue figure, motionless under a thin blanket.

Then, a finger twitched. The blue figure stirred, his body stiff and sluggish as if moving through water.

He was drowning.

Pressure crushed down on him, dragging him deeper into the void. He clawed at the darkness, desperate to find air, light—anything—but there was nothing. The sensation of sinking overwhelmed him, and just when it felt like he would never escape—

Gasp!

Sonic bolted upright, his heart pounding against his ribs. He gasped for air, his chest heaving as beads of sweat rolled down his face. For a moment, he stared into the distance, his mind still half-trapped in the suffocating nightmare.

But instead of the cold, dark depths, he was greeted by the warmth of a cozy room. The faint scent of herbs filled the air.

"Where… am I?" Sonic muttered, his voice hoarse. The panic began to fade as he took in his surroundings—a wooden interior with modest furniture, lit by a lantern that cast a calming glow.

He leaned back against the pillows, letting out a long sigh of relief. A faint grin tugged at his lips, "I should really reconsider those swimming classes…" he muttered to himself.

Just as he was beginning to relax, a sharp pain shot through his chest, making him wince. He looked down, his hands brushing over the thick bandage wrapped tightly around his torso. His memory flickered—Metal Lilac. The fall. Angel Island. His friends!

But those thoughts were interrupted by the creak of the infirmary door.

"Was hearing some noise in here, and well, look at that! In less than a day, our castaway is finally awake!"

The cheerful voice drew Sonic's attention. Standing in the doorway was a female black cat with long, her hair tied back in a short ponytail. She wore loose yellow pants and a green tank top, her laid-back appearance offset by the quiver of arrows strapped to her back and the bow slung across her shoulder.

Sonic offered a weak smile. "Heh, guess I had you worried, huh?"

The cat grinned, her bright green eyes full of relief. "Kumusta! Name's Kukri," she said with a playful salute. "You gave us quite the scare there. That much water probably wasn't good for you—especially with those wounds!"

Sonic glanced down at the bandages again, his mind still piecing things together. With a shrug, he replied nonchalantly, "Eh, I've had worse." He glanced back at her, his grin widening. "Name's Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog."

"Well, Sonic," Kukri said, leaning casually against the doorframe, "glad to see you're doing alright. The doc had to step out for some errands, so yours truly got the honor of keeping an eye on you. And low and behold, you're up and running already!"

Sonic chuckled, appreciating her lighthearted tone. "Not really the type to sit around all day," he quipped before flashing her a more sincere smile. "Thanks for taking care of me, Kukri. Really, I owe you one. But, uh… where exactly am I?"

Kukri crossed her arms, tilting her head slightly as she began to explain. "Not familiar? Can't blame you. Well, welcome to Parusa Island—the southernmost gem of the Avalice Archipelago. Used to be part of Shang Tu, back in the days of the ancient water dragons and all that jazz." She waved her hand dismissively. "This little slice of paradise is Adventure Square. Quiet seaside town. We get tourists now and then, but not the kind who wash up on the shore looking half-drowned."

Sonic laughed. "Well, I'm glad you found me when you did." His expression shifted as his thoughts refocused. "But I can't stick around. My friends need me."

Swinging his legs over the side of the bed, Sonic winced slightly as he stretched, testing his muscles. The sharp sting in his chest reminded him to move carefully, but his determination wouldn't allow him to rest any longer.

"Whoa, whoa, hold on a second!" Kukri stepped forward, raising an eyebrow at him. "You just survived a near-drowning with injuries, and now you're talking about heading out again? Are you crazy?"

"Sure am!" Sonic shot back with a cheeky grin. "Don't worry, Kukri. I've been through worse. Appreciate the hospitality, but I've gotta figure out how to get to Angel Island..."

Kukri blinked, her expression shifting to surprise. "Wait, Angel Island? The giant floating island that makes ours look like a speck? The one that just fell?"

Sonic's heart skipped a beat. "Fell?!" he echoed, his voice tinged with disbelief.

Kukri stepped back slightly, her demeanor becoming uneasy. "Y-yeah… it dropped into the sea like a few hours ago or so and…"

Before she could say another word, a blue blur zipped past her, the gust of wind ruffling her fur as Sonic dashed out of the infirmary and into the night.

"Woah, hey, wait!" Kukri called after him, but he was already gone.

Adventure Square – Shores

Sonic darted through the streets of Adventure Square, a blue blur zipping past startled townsfolk. Gusts of wind trailed in his wake, rattling the shops and scattering loose papers. Residents carrying baskets of fruit or chatting in small groups froze as the blur rushed by, leaving behind a flurry of surprised exclamations.

"What was that?!"

"Hey, that's the guy from the shores!"

"He woke up?!"

The murmurs grew louder as Sonic sprinted past, his mind racing faster than his feet as he approached the coast when he finally skidded to a halt. He stood before two gigantic stone statues, weathered by time but still majestic, looming over the shore.

Sonic's eyes widened as he took in the sight before him. Angel Island was no longer suspended in the sky. It now rested heavily on the surface of the ocean.

His expression turned grim. "If Angel Island has sunk… then that means the Master Emerald has been…" His voice trailed off, his fists clenching as the weight of the realization hit him. "So we lost."

The sound of murmurs pulled him from his thoughts. A small crowd had begun to gather around him, townsfolk curious about the strange hedgehog who had apparently sprung back to life in a matter of hours.

"Isn't that the hedgehog Lisa's kid found?" one of them asked, craning their neck to get a better look.

"Yeah, it's definitely the same guy!" another replied.

"My goodness, he's awake already?" an older woman said, her tone more concerned than curious.

Sonic ignored their chatter, his focus locked on the distant island. His thoughts swirled with questions and doubts. "I need to find them… But are they even there?" he muttered under his breath. He tapped his foot anxiously, frustration clear in his tone. "They're probably out looking for the Emerald, Im sure of it."

"Hey!"

A familiar voice cut through his thoughts. Sonic turned to see Kukri jogging toward him. She was panting heavily, hands on her knees as she caught her breath.

"Don't… huff… run off like that!" she scolded, her voice a mix of irritation and concern. "You're still bandaged up!"

Sonic rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Sorry about that. I just… I need to know what happened. Kukri, how long has it been since the island fell into the sea?"

"Like, when exactly?" Kukri frowned, tapping her chin as she tried to recall. "Uh, well, uhhh…"

"The sun was starting to set when it fell," a new voice interjected. Sonic and Kukri turned to see a cheetah woman approaching, her demeanor calm but slightly nervous. "So it was around four to three hours ago," she continued. "And about an hour after that is when we found you… more or less. Sorry if that's not exact." She offered an apologetic smile.

"Nah, that's fine. Thanks," Sonic nodded, quickly doing the math in his head. "If I fell into the ocean in the early hours of the morning and it's night now… that means I've been out for almost a full day…" His hands clenched into fists, trembling slightly. "You wouldn't happen to have seen a plane fly by, would you? Uhhh…" He paused, realizing he didn't know her name.

"Lisa," the cheetah said, introducing herself. She hesitated for a moment before answering. "And yes, I think I saw a yellow plane fly past not too long ago."

"Not only that," another voice chimed in. Sonic turned to see a monkey in a yellow military uniform and a female ferret carrying a large satchel that marked her as a traveling merchant. The monkey gave a friendly wave.

"Kumusta, stranger! Name's Arnold, and this here is Chloe," he said, gesturing to the ferret beside him.

"Uh, hey," Sonic replied, his attention turning to Arnold's story.

"Not too long after the yellow plane, Chloe and I saw a red motorboat with a green wildcat and a red anteater heading north toward Shang Tu," Arnold said, scratching his chin thoughtfully.

"They both looked pretty beat up, but they seemed to be in a hurry," Chloe added.

Sonic chuckled inwardly at Arnold's description of Knuckles as an 'anteater.' "Carol and Knuckles must've been on that boat," he muttered to himself. "And Lilac, Tails, and Torque were probably in the Spinner…but why in separated transports?"

Before he could process further, yet another voice interrupted.

"Not only that, dudes!"

Sonic turned to see a small blue hedgehog, a really small blue hedgehog, not unlike himself in color, approaching with an excited grin. He wore a black shirt with a golden ring emblem, black pants, and red shoes. His voice was high-pitched but enthusiastic.

"Before all of that, my friend Amelia and I were watching the ships of the Shuigang battalion leave as the island fell. I saw a purple blur pass by at incredible speed! It was carrying a huge green emerald along with two other green things!"

Sonic's eyes widened as the words sank in. He recalled Metal Lilac tearing through the skies toward Angel Island. He already assumed that she took the Master Emerald, but who were the two green figures? His mind raced, trying to piece together the puzzle.

"It… couldn't have been Torque, right? But, wait, who was the other one then?" he wondered aloud.

"Sunny, we all saw the green light, but are you sure it was a gem?" Chloe asked, her skepticism evident.

"Nuh-uh, man! I swear!" Sunny said, puffing out his chest. "Purple comet carrying a green gem and two other green dudes. I totally saw it clear! You believe me, right?" He looked at Sonic with hopeful eyes.

"Why would he know?" Arnold muttered.

Sonic nodded confidently. "You got it right, little guy."

Sunny's face lit up. "Oh yeah! Validation!" he cheered, throwing his tiny hands in the air.

"Seriously?" Kukri said, everyone standing baffled.

"Yup!" Sonic smiled at the group. "What you guys told me has been really helpful. Thanks a lot."

"Wait, wait, wait," Kukri interjected, still processing. "You were with those guys then?"

"Yeah," Sonic said with a nod. "The ones in the yellow plane and the red boat. The others…" He paused, his expression darkening. "They're not exactly the friendly type. They're the reason I ended up here—they shot down the plane I was on, well not really them but..."

"So it was you!" Lisa gasped, drawing everyone's attention back to her. "What you said earlier—that you fell in the morning? When I was opening my restaurant, I saw something red falling from the distance. That was you in it, wasn't it?"

"Bingo," Sonic replied with a grin, scratching the back of his head. "Like I said, those guys aren't exactly the friendly types."

"Tell me about it," Arnold muttered, crossing his arms in frustration. "Ever since the prince of Shuigang took the throne, he's been sending robot hordes everywhere! We've had to deal with a few of them making their way all the way out here."

Chloe let out a long sigh, her tail flicking with agitation. "I moved here temporarily from Shang Tu to sell my wares, thinking it would be quieter. But it seems even Parusa isn't safe from all this conflict. The island's getting caught in the crossfire."

"Busting up robots is fun and all," Kukri added with a wry smile, her bow resting casually against her shoulder, "but it's getting old fast. I can't imagine what it'll be like if an all-out war breaks out." Her expression darkened as she finished speaking.

The others nodded in agreement, their faces mirroring her concern. The air seemed to grow heavier as the grim reality of the situation settled over the group.

Sonic stepped forward, his voice brimming with confidence. "Well, you won't have to worry about that," he said, his grin widening. "Because I'll make sure it doesn't happen!"

Lisa blinked at him, startled by his boldness. "You? What can you do?"

Sonic's grin only grew. "What can I do? Only what I'm best at—saving the day, stopping bad guys, and putting an end to all of this chaos in a flash!" He struck a confident pose, his hands on his hips.

The group exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and disbelief. Who was this hedgehog who had washed up on their shores, speaking with such certainty? How could he possibly make such promises?

"Okay…" Arnold said, scratching his head as he broke the silence. "So what's your first step, hotshot?"

Sonic opened his mouth to respond, but a sudden thought stopped him cold. His eyes widened, and his hand instinctively went to his side. "The Chaos Emerald!" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with panic. "Oh no, it must still be in the ocean! How am I going to—"

"Emerald? You mean that blue sapphire you had with you?" Kukri interrupted, drawing Sonic's attention.

His ears perked up. "You've seen it?"

Kukri nodded. "When we found you, you were clutching it pretty tightly. But, uh, well…" She trailed off, scratching her head awkwardly.

"Little kitty here decided to hand it off to Lisa's kid," Arnold teased, nudging Kukri with his elbow and earning a sharp glare in return.

"Hey!" Kukri sputtered, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "If a little cheetah girl pleaded with you using that big, tearful eye, you'd have fumbled too!"

Sonic let out a sigh of relief. "Phew, at least it's safe. Sorry for the kid, but I'll need to ask for it back." He turned to Lisa with an apologetic smile.

Lisa nodded, her expression softening. "Of course. Please, come with me. I'll take you to my restaurant. My daughter, Sari, has been keeping it safe in the basement of our restaurant. She'll… I think she'll understand if you explain." She offered a small smile, though Sonic could see the weariness and worry behind it.

Sonic replied with a nod, ready to follow her.

"Please follow me, I'll show you the way" She said as she began to lead the way, Sonic turned and waved at the others. They returned the gesture, their faces reflecting a mix of emotions—sadness, doubt, and lingering curiosity.

Falling into step behind Lisa, Sonic's eyes drifted to the two statues standing on the shore. One was a grand depiction of what Sonic assumed was a water dragon, its craftsmanship remarkably detailed despite the wear of time. The other, however, was in ruins—so broken that only its feet remained intact, its identity lost to history.

"Sheesh," Sonic muttered under his breath, "that statue's seen better days. Wonder why no one's fixed it up?"

The question lingered in his mind for only a moment before he shook it off. He refocused, his pace quickening as he followed Lisa toward the restaurant, determined to not waste another second.

Adventure Square – Goldie's Restaurant

The moon hung high as Sonic followed Lisa down the quiet sands of Adventure Square. Soon, they arrived at the restaurant, its sign depicting a golden fish above the name Goldie's. The soft glow of lanterns illuminated the cozy establishment, giving it an inviting warmth.

Lisa pushed the door open, the faint chime of a bell ringing out as Sonic stepped inside. "Welcome to Goldie's," Lisa said warmly, gesturing for him to enter.

Sonic took a moment to admire the interior. The place had a homely charm, with polished wooden tables and cushioned red sofas arranged neatly around the room. Hanging lamps bathed the space in a golden light. Behind the counter, which led into an open kitchen, various cooking utensils, a coffee machine, and a stovetop were meticulously arranged. The tantalizing aroma lingering faintly in the air.

"I'd gladly serve you one of our specials," Lisa continued, her smile tinged with sadness, "but it seems you're in a hurry. And frankly… you don't seem quite old enough for some of them."

"Yeah, sorry I can't stay to enjoy what looks like some amazing food," Sonic replied, glancing at an open menu on the counter. He stopped when he saw something familiar listed. Chili Dogs. His stomach let out an audible rumble, prompting a soft chuckle from the cheetah.

"No worries," Lisa said, pointing toward a set of wooden stairs that led to the basement. "My daughter, Sari, should be down there. She's been waiting for you… well, not exactly, but…" She trailed off, her gaze lingering on Sonic as if she were trying to place him in a memory. For a moment, she seemed hesitant, then sighed. "I'd appreciate it if you could be gentle with her," she said softly, her voice heavy with sorrow. "She… had an accident some days ago. She's been through a lot."

Sonic's demeanor shifted. "I understand," he said gently, offering her a reassuring nod.

Lisa smiled faintly, though the pain in her eyes was unmistakable. She stepped aside, letting Sonic descend the stairs into the dimly lit basement below.

The air grew cooler as Sonic moved further down. The room was sparsely lit by a single lamp hanging from the ceiling, its warm glow barely illuminating the space. Stacks of crates and barrels lined the walls, the faint scent of herbs and dried goods wafting through the air.

In the center of the room, sitting on a wooden crate, was a young cheetah girl. She couldn't have been older than six. Her back was to him, her small frame hunched over as she focused intently on something in her hands.

The object cast a soft blue light, bathing her in an ethereal glow.

The Blue Chaos Emerald.

Sonic cleared his throat softly, not wanting to startle her.

The girl jumped with a small yelp, nearly dropping the emerald. She lost her balance and tumbled off the crate, scrambling to her feet with wide, frightened eyes as she turned to face him.

"Hey, Sari, right?" Sonic greeted her, keeping his tone friendly as he took a cautious step forward. But as his eyes fell on her face, he froze.

One of her eyes was bright and alert, but the other… The left side of her face was marred by a deep, jagged scar that ran from her brow to her cheek. The wound was still red and raw, evidence of a recent injury.

Sari immediately tried to cover the scar with her hand, her small fingers trembling as she fumbled with a loose bandage she had been using to hide it.

Sonic's heart sank. The fear in her eyes and the way she recoiled at his presence told him more than words ever could.

"Sorry for startling you, buddy," Sonic said softly, kneeling down to her level. Sari flinched but didn't move away as he kept his distance, his tone as gentle as possible. "I'm not here to hurt you, I promise. Your mom said you've been holding onto something important. Do you still have it?"

Sari hesitated, clutching the Chaos Emerald tighter to her chest as she shuffled behind a nearby crate, her body trembling.

Sonic frowned, unsure why she seemed so terrified of him. But he pushed the thought aside and tried again, this time softening his voice further. "Hey, it's okay. I get it—you're scared. But I'm really not here to hurt you. I just need to borrow that gem you're holding, and I promise it's for something really important."

The little cheetah peeked out from behind the crate, her expression conflicted. She studied Sonic's face carefully, as if trying to decide whether he was trustworthy. Slowly, she stepped out into the open and revealed the Chaos Emerald, its brilliant blue light illuminating the room.

"That's it," Sonic said with a smile, his tone filled with relief. "That's the gem! Do you mind if I take it back?"

But Sari's grip tightened around the emerald, pulling it close to her chest. "I-It's Mama's gift…" she whispered, her voice barely audible. "This is for her."

Sonic's ears twitched as he caught the words. From above, he could hear Lisa quietly sniffling, her soft whimpers carrying down the stairs. His gaze softened as he looked at Sari, understanding dawning on him.

"Hey," he said gently, his voice laced with warmth. "That's really sweet of you. Your mom means a lot to you, doesn't she?"

Sari nodded, tears brimming in her good eye.

Sonic smiled reassuringly. "You know what? That makes you an amazing kid. But this gem—it's not just any shiny rock. It's got a big job to do. It's part of something that can help keep a lot of people safe, including your mom. And I need your help to make sure that happens."

"Its…important?" Sari asked, her wide eyes shimmering with curiosity as she clutched the edge of her white dress.

Sonic nodded enthusiastically, giving her a big grin. "You bet! With this emerald, I'll be able to help people—and maybe even save the world!"

"Save the world?!" Sari repeated, her voice filled with amazement. She glanced down at the Chaos Emerald in her hands, the blue light illuminating her scarred face. "Can this really save the world?"

"It sure can," Sonic confirmed, his grin widening. "And you know what? I'm going to need your help to do it."

Sari's awe deepened as she stared at the emerald, her tiny fingers tracing its smooth, glowing surface as if seeing it for the first time. "A-Are you a hero?" she asked softly, her voice brimming with childlike wonder.

Sonic paused, her question catching him off guard. The word hung in the air as he glanced at her, then at the emerald in his hand. He rubbed the back of his head, pondering her words.

"No, not really," he said after a moment, surprising Sari. Her brow furrowed, confusion clear on her face.

"Don't get me wrong," Sonic continued, kneeling down to meet her gaze. "I still want to help people—always. But I don't really consider myself a hero. I just do what's right. What needs to be done."

Sari tilted her head, her curiosity undeterred. "Then… what are you?"

Sonic hesitated, leaning back on his heels as he considered her question. He gazed down at the Chaos Emerald, its glow reflecting in his green eyes. What am I?

Was he just a thrill-seeker? Someone who stumbles into trouble and finds a way to fix it along the way? Or was it something else? The questions lingered, but as quickly as those thoughts crossed his mind, just as swiftly, an answer came to him. It was so clear, so instinctive, that he couldn't deny it. He already knew who he was.

As he opened his mouth to respond, a piercing scream shattered his train of thought.

"That was mommy!" Sari cried, her voice trembling with fear.

Before she could move, Sonic was already in motion. In a blur of blue, he dashed up the stairs.

Sonic burst into the main room of the restaurant just in time to see Lisa screaming, backing away from a rusted Rhinobot that had broken through the door. Shards of wood and glass littered the floor, and the robot's wet, dented form sparked erratically as it prepared to ram her.

"Not on my watch!" Sonic growled.

In a flash, he curled into a ball and launched himself forward in a perfectly executed spin dash. The impact shattered the Rhinobot into pieces, releasing a small blue Flicky that flapped its wings and flew off with a cheerful chirp.

"Are you okay?" Sonic asked, turning to Lisa.

Lisa pressed a hand to her chest, breathing heavily as she wiped away tears. "Y-Yes… I'm fine. It came out of nowhere!"

From outside, the sounds of chaos began to rise—mechanical whirring, crashing, and the frightened shouts of townsfolk.

"You two stay here, alright?" Sonic said firmly, glancing at Lisa and Sari, who had hurried out of the basement and now clung tightly to her mother's side.

Lisa nodded, pulling Sari close as Sonic turned and sprinted out of the restaurant.

The scene outside was chaos. Badniks and Brevon's Shade Troopers filled the town, tearing through stalls and structures as townsfolk scrambled for safety. Sparks and debris filled the air as the robots moved relentlessly forward.

"How did these guys get in here?!" Sonic exclaimed, surveying the mayhem.

"From the waters!" a voice called out.

An arrow whizzed past Sonic, embedding itself into a Shade Trooper and causing the robot to collapse in a shower of sparks. Kukri jogged up to him, bow in hand and another arrow already nocked.

"They came from the sea! They just started swarming the docks and making their way here!" she explained, her voice tight with urgency.

Nearby, Arnold smashed two Badniks with a powerful swing of his mace. "The are probably the robots that were deployed in Angel Island, they must've dragged themselves here! They've been drifting and crawling this way all day!" he added, his tone frustrated.

"Sonic, quick, get to shelter!" Kukri urged Sonic as she took aim at another robot, her movements sharp and precise. "Parusa's militia will handle this!"

But Sonic didn't move as he smirked, shaking his head as he watched the chaos. There weren't too many robots—nothing he couldn't handle—but they were enough to cause problems for the militia. "No can do," he replied, rolling his shoulders. "Can't let you guys have all the fun!"

Kukri and Arnold stared at him, baffled.

"Are you crazy?!" Kukri yelled. "You're injured, and you just woke up! What could you possibly do?!"

"What I always do," Sonic replied with a confident grin.

Without another word, he curled into a ball, rapidly spinning in place as energy built up around him

Inside Goldie's Restaurant, Lisa and Sari peered anxiously out the window, their gazes fixed on the blue blur that had dashed into action. They watched as Sonic started gathering energy, the faint hum of his speed building around him. Sand swirled around his sneakers, and the air seemed to crackle with anticipation.

Then, with a sudden burst, Sonic shot forward like a lightning bolt.

Sand sprayed in all directions as he launched himself at the first Badnik, smashing through it with ease. Metal parts flew into the air as the robot crumbled, releasing a small bunny that hop away with a joyful squeak. But Sonic didn't stop.

Ricocheting from one enemy to the next, Sonic was a whirlwind of motion, his spin dash cutting through the mechanical invaders. A Crabmeat lunged at him, but Sonic dodged with a quick sidestep, landing a sharp kick that sent it skidding into another Badnik. The two exploded in a flash of sparks and smoke.

Kukri and Arnold stood still, temporarily stunned by the sheer speed and efficiency of Sonic's movements.

"W-was he always able to do that?" Kukri muttered, loosing another arrow that struck a Shade Trooper square in its chest.

"Apparently!" Arnold replied, smashing a Buzzbomber out of the sky. "The guy's a tornado!"

A small crowd began to gather at the edges of the houses, their expressions shifting from fear to awe as they watched the hedgehog dismantle the invading robots. Children peeked out from behind their parents, gasping as Sonic leapt into the air, curling into a ball and smashing through three more Badniks in rapid succession.

One older man shook his head in amazement. "Who is he?" he murmured.

Sonic's final attack came with a flourish. He launched into a high-speed somersault, gaining momentum as he spun toward the last standing Shade Trooper. With a well-aimed kick, he struck the robot square in its chest, shattering it into a heap of scrap metal. He landed gracefully in the sand, brushing himself off as he straightened up.

The townsfolk where silent for a moment, save for the faint whirring of the remaining robot fragments shutting down. The onlookers stared at him, their faces a mix of disbelief and admiration.

From inside the restaurant, Sari watched with wide, sparkling eyes. Her tiny hands pressed against the glass as she stared at Sonic standing in the moonlight, surrounded by the remains of the invading robots.

Before Lisa could stop her, Sari darted out the door, sprinting across the sand toward Sonic.

"Sari, wait!" Lisa called, her voice tinged with both fear and relief.

Sari skidded to a stop in front of Sonic, her small frame dwarfed by his. Her awe was palpable as she tilted her head back to look up at him.

"What… are you?" she asked again, her voice barely above a whisper.

Sonic turned to her, his grin returning as the moonlight highlighted his silhouette. Striking a confident pose, he pointed to himself with his thumb. "I'm just what you see," he declared with a wink. "Just one more adventurer who seeks thrills and wonders! I'm Sonic the Hedgehog!"

He paused, letting his words sink in before adding, "And right now, I'm about to kick some more evildoers' butts—with the help of that little gem you've got!"

Sari blinked, her mind racing as she processed his words. She stared at him for a moment longer, then down at the Chaos Emerald in her hands. Seeing him in action, she couldn't help but feel a spark of hope. He may not call himself a hero, but to her, he was something special.

With a newfound sense of trust, Sari stepped forward and extended the emerald toward him. The soft blue glow illuminated her scarred face, but this time, she didn't try to hide it.

Sonic's grin widened as he gently took the emerald from her hands. "Thank you, Sari," he said warmly. "I'll make sure to bust a couple of robots in your name next time." He gave her a playful wink, drawing a giggle from the little girl.

The tension in the town square began to dissipate as the townsfolk let out sighs of relief. Grateful murmurs rippled through the crowd, with many stepping forward to thank Sonic for his efforts.

Inside the restaurant, Lisa clutched her chest, her eyes glistening with tears. She watched as Sari's laughter echoed through the square, a sound she hadn't heard in days. "She's smiling again…" Lisa whispered, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Sonic, Thank you."

She wiped her eyes as more townsfolk gathered around the hedgehog, their voices filled with gratitude and admiration. For the first time in a long while, the weight on Lisa's shoulders felt a little lighter. And for the first time since the accident, Sari looked like herself again.

Adventure Square – Shores

Time had passed since the attack, and the residents of Adventure Square worked diligently to clean up the remnants of the battle. Robot scraps were gathered into piles, the once-chaotic scene gradually returning to calm.

Near the shore, Sonic stood with the Chaos Emerald in hand, staring out at the glimmering waves. The emeralds weight felling heavier than ever. Beside him, Sari lingered, watching him quietly, her hands clutching the hem of her mother's shirt as Lisa stood nearby.

The sound of approaching footsteps drew Sonic's attention, and he turned to see Arnold walking up, his expression apologetic.

"No dice, kid," Arnold said, shaking his head. "Captain Corazon and her mercenary crew took the Sigwada and the rest of the airships to trade goods with the outer islands. They're not due back until tomorrow."

"Shoot," Sonic muttered, his shoulders slumping slightly. "Not a single airships?"

"Nope, just regular boats," Arnold said, gesturing toward the small wooden vessels bobbing gently in the water nearby. "You know, paddle and everything."

Sonic frowned, tapping his foot rapidly as he tried to think of an alternative. "That won't do. I need to get there fast…"

"Take it slow, dude!" Sunny called out, leaning casually against a stack of crates. "You're gonna wear yourself out before you even start. Chill a little or it will be no good!"

"But even so," Kukri added, her tone more serious as she approached, arms crossed. "Where are you even planning to go? Do you even know where your friends are right now?"

Sonic winced inwardly, mentally facepalming. Kukri was right—he had no idea where his friends could be. Maybe they had gone back to the palace? Or were they still out searching for the Master Emerald? Either way, they needed his help, and the thought of them being in danger filled him with urgency. He clutched the Chaos Emerald tightly, its smooth surface pressing into his palm.

"I have to find them," he muttered to himself, his determination hardening.

"Hey! It's glowing!" Sari's excited voice snapped everyone to attention.

The crowd turned toward Sonic, their eyes widening in awe. The Chaos Emerald in his hand had begun to glow, its blue light intensifying with each passing moment. The brilliance illuminated the entire shore, casting shimmering reflections on the water.

"What is…?" Sonic muttered, staring at the emerald as its glow enveloped him. The light bathed him in a radiant aura. The townsfolk shielded their eyes, murmurs of awe and confusion rippling through the crowd.

Sonic, however, couldn't look away. His gaze locked onto the gem as its light filled his vision, a strange warmth radiating from it as if it were responding to something deep within him.

Shuigang Island – Shuigang Palace, Underground Laboratory

Far away, in the cold depths beneath Shuigang Palace, Robotnik slammed a fist against the console of his laboratory in frustration.

"I hate that mutt…! Ugh, it's not the same!" he growled, slouching into his chair with a pout. His mustache bristled as he grumbled to himself, "What kind of power even is that? Such bafflement!"

His sulking was interrupted by the shrill beeping of an alarm. Robotnik jolted upright, nearly falling out of his chair as he scrambled to check the monitors.

"What in the world?!" he exclaimed, his eyes darting across the screens.

The displays showed an unexpected reaction: the locked Chaos Emeralds and the Kingdom Stone were glowing, their light intensifying as if reacting to an unseen force.

"The Chaos Emeralds and Kingdom Stone… are reacting?!" Robotnik muttered, his irritation giving way to astonishment. He sprang from his chair, adjusting his goggles as he leaned closer to the screen. "But to what? They've never done this before!"

Without wasting another second, he bolted out of the lab, heading straight for the chamber where the emeralds and the Kingdom Stone were kept.

Shang Tu Island – Egg Thermos, Ventilation Shafts

Spade crawled through the cramped vents of the Egg Thermos. The metallic walls around him were dimly illuminated by a faint silver light coming from his pocket.

"The hell…?" Spade muttered, reaching into his pouch. He pulled out the Silver Emerald, its glow far brighter than usual. It pulsed in his hand like a beating heart, the light reflecting off the narrow walls of the vent.

"What's wrong with you now?" he grumbled, shaking his head as he stuffed it back into his pouch. "I don't have time for whatever weird crap you're doing."

The emerald continued to glow, its light guiding him deeper into the labyrinth of vents as he pressed forward, determined to escape.

Unknown Location

In a place shrouded in darkness, the air was still, the silence broken only by the faint hum of an energy source.

A soft purple glow emanated from the Purple Chaos Emerald, its light spreading across the cavern's walls and illuminating jagged rock formations. As the light grew brighter, it revealed a massive form lying in the shadows.

Two enormous, glowing blue eyes blinked open, their gaze locking onto the emerald.

A deep, guttural growl rumbled through the cavern as the figure shifted, its movements sending tremors through the ground. The emerald's sudden reaction had awakened something ancient.

Adventure Square - Shores

Back on the shores of Parusa Island, the ethereal glow of the Chaos Emerald faded, its brilliance dimming until it returned to its normal state. The light left behind a stunned silence, the air still charged with the energy of what they had just witnessed.

The residents stood frozen, their expressions a mix of awe and disbelief.

"It was so pretty…" Sari was the first to speak, her voice breaking the silence. Her single eye sparkled with wonder as she looked up at Sonic.

"W-What was that…?" Chloe asked, her voice shaky. She rubbed her arms as though trying to ground herself in reality. Around her, the others murmured, their whispers filled with uncertainty and curiosity.

Sonic, however, looked as calm and confident as ever. A wide grin spread across his face as he twirled the Chaos Emerald in his hand. "Just a little helping hand," he said casually.

He crouched down, placing his hands on the sand and assuming a runner's stance. "And I think I've found my way out of here," he added, his voice brimming with excitement.

Realization dawned on Kukri, her eyes widening as she stepped forward in alarm. "W-Wait! We all saw how fast you are, but with those injuries, you can't swim!" she protested, her tone filled with genuine concern.

The others quickly caught on, murmuring their own objections.

"S-Sonic?" Lisa called out, worry etched across her face. "What are you planning to do?!"

Sonic glanced back at them, his grin widening into a cocky smirk. "Hehe, don't worry about me. This time, I won't fall so easily. And besides," he added, his eyes sparkling with determination, "I don't have time to waste!"

Before anyone could argue further, Sonic's feet began moving at incredible speed, creating a whirlwind of sand around him. The townsfolk shielded their eyes as the wind whipped across the shore, scattering sand everywhere.

"Thanks for everything!" Sonic shouted over the noise. "Hope to see you guys soon!"

And with that, he took off, launching himself into supersonic speed. The force of his departure sent a gust of wind rippling through the town, nearly knocking everyone off their feet.

They watched in awe as Sonic sprinted across the water, his figure became a blue streak against the sea as he raced toward his destination.

"Bye, Sonic!" Sari called out, waving her small hand as she giggled at the sight of the departing hedgehog.

Lisa placed a hand over her heart, smiling despite her lingering worry. "Please come back so I can give you a proper meal!" she shouted, cupping her hands around her mouth to make her voice carry.

The rest of the town joined in, their voices ringing out in a chorus of farewells.

"Hope you visit again soon!" Chloe added, her voice tinged with warmth.

"Next time, don't come here washed up on the shore!" Kukri joked, shaking her head with a grin.

"Save the world, adventurer!" Arnold called out, raising his mace in salute.

"Sweet travels, man!" Sunny cheered, waving his stubby arms with enthusiasm.

Sonic turned his head slightly as he raced away, catching their cheers just before they faded into the distance. A soft smile crossed his face as he redirected himself north, veering toward Shang Tu with a sharp turn.

"Hold on, guys," Sonic muttered to himself, the wind rushing past him as he tightened his grip on the Chaos Emerald. "This time, I won't let you down. And I'm going to make sure to not be late to the party!"

His eyes gleamed with determination as he sped toward his next destination, set on reuniting with his friends and putting an end to the chaos that threatened their world.

The shores of Adventure Square slowly returned to stillness, the townsfolk lingering for a moment longer as they watched the last traces of the blue blur fade into the night.
