"Fuck!" Ulrich yells. He's using his two katanas to block laser after laser being fired at Aelita from the large swarm of hornets surrounding the two of them and Sissi. "These hornets are a pain in the ass!"

"Tell me about it," Sissi agrees, panting. "I'm running low on energy."

"Me too," Aelita says as she gears up to launch a large energy field at their enemies. "We need to find a way to get rid of these things."

"Any ideas?" Ulrich asks.

"Maybe if we can get you to the tower, you can deactivate it," Sissi suggests.

Aelita says, "It's worth a shot."

"Okay, let's do it," Ulrich agrees.

The three of them begin making their way toward the tower, fighting off the hornets along the way.

"There's too many of them," Sissi complains.

"I know," Aelita says. "But we have to keep trying."

"I'm not sure how much longer I can last," Ulrich admits.

"Me either," Sissi agrees.

"Come on, guys," Aelita encourages.

But it's no use. A split second later, Sissi is devirtualized when she fails to dodge a laser.

"Shit," Ulrich curses under his breath.

"Stern, you're gonna need to give it your all and either get Aelita to the tower or wipe out the hornets," Herve's voice comes over the comms. "Watch it, Dunbar, you just lost forty life points there!"

"Look, Herve, I'm not just sitting here twiddling my thumbs!" William snaps back. His Zweihänder is raised in front of him, blocking the lasers the Krabs are shooting at him.

Beside him, Odd is grunting with effort as he uses his shield to block laser after laser from hitting Yumi, who is typing away furiously at the supercomputer, trying to find a way into its systems.

"Herve, nothing I'm doing is working!" Yumi complains.

"Did you try the override code?"

"Yes, I tried the override code. It's not working."

"Well, keep trying," Herve orders.

"I am keeping trying, but it's really not working," Yumi snaps. "This has never happened before. Isn't there something you could do from your end?"

"Let me see..." Herve hums as he types on his keyboard. "I might be able to gain remote access."

"All yours, Herve," Yumi says as she backs away from the terminal.

"Okay, here goes nothing," Herve says.

He begins typing furiously, and the screen flashes with a series of commands.

"Herve, what's taking so long?" Yumi asks seeing her teammates struggling to hold back the wave of enemies. She fires off her fans over William and Odd. "You're not going to just blow up the supercomputer from there, are you?"

"No, of course not. I'm just trying to get it to cooperate."

"Not to rush you or anything, but make it cooperate faster!" William shouts as he flings another energy slash.

"Working on it, Dunbar!" Herve growls, still typing line after line of code. "I've got it! Yumi, get on the terminal. Now! Aelita! What's your status? Yumi is ready at the facility terminal."

"Not good, Herve. Sissi's out and Ulrich and I have almost no cover! The tower's in sight, but we've got probably a hundred fifty meters and a dozen hornets between us and—shit! Ulrich!"

Ulrich takes a flurry of lasers to the chest and is thrown back five meters. He is devirtualized before he even hits the ground.

"Dammit," Aelita curses as she dives behind a rock formation. "How am I doing on life points, Herve? Can I just sprint to the tower?"

"You take a shot like Ulrich just took, and it's game over."

"Great. Well. Here goes." She inhales deeply and exhales slowly, trying to regain her lost breath.

"Aelita, wait," Herve says. "Yumi, are you ready?"

"Ready," Yumi confirms.

"Aelita, on my mark, run for the tower. Yumi, start entering the destruction command. On three. One. Two. Three!"

Aelita sprints from her hiding spot, firing off a couple of energy fields at the hornets. She makes a mad dash for the tower, dodging lasers and flying hornets along the way. "Almost there," she says, breathing heavily.

"Keep going," Herve encourages. "Forty meters to target."

The tower is within reach, but as a last ditch effort, all the hornets fire volley after volley at Aelita. A couple end up catching her in the back, launching her forward into the tower before she can be completely devirtualized.

Inside the tower, the blast causes her to roll. Her momentum carries her across the entire platform. She bounces off but just barely manages to catch herself from falling into the data stream below her.

"Lucky catch," she exhales, dangling under the platform. "Herve, I'm in the tower. But give me a second. In a little predicament here."

"Oh, thank God. I saw your marker shoot forward and disappear. What's the problem?"

"Kinda hanging from the lower platform over what is probably certain death. But I think I'm okay," she says as she starts to pull herself up. "Please don't let William know what just happened. He'd probably have an aneurysm."

"Copy that, Aelita. William won't hear anything."

"Won't hear anything of what, DaVinci?" William asks.

Herve clears his throat. "Nothing. Everything is running according to plan. Yumi, Aelita's in the tower. Ready to go?"

"As I'll ever be. Just say the word," Yumi says.

The platform lights up as Aelita sets stable footing. She floats up to the upper platform where the interface pops into existence. "Ready, Herve."

"Alright, just like normal. On three. One, two, three!"

The three windows all close simultaneously, and Herve energizes the remaining warriors back into the Skid. Aelita undocks the Skid from the tower and flies through the mouth of the Replika just as it explodes out of existence.

The team is rematerialized and debriefed, congratulating themselves on a successful mission.

As everyone leaves the lab and subsequently the factory, Yumi playfully bumps Ulrich's shoulder with hers.

"You excited for tomorrow?" Yumi asks.

"Tomorrow?" Ulrich questions. "What's tomorrow?"

"Dude," Yumi deadpans. "Did you forget it's your own birthday tomorrow?"

Ulrich chuckles. "I guess I did. I'm looking forward to it. See you tomorrow."

"I think you'll enjoy this one. I'll see you tomorrow," she says, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before running off towards home.

The fragrant scent of miso and soy wafts through the air as Yumi moves about the kitchen with practiced ease. Bowls and ingredients lay scattered across the counter, evidence of her determined effort to create authentic bowls of ramen from scratch.

The rhythmic sound of the knife hitting the chopping board echoes through the room as she skillfully slices vegetables—crisp green onions, delicate mushrooms, and thin strips of seaweed. The broth simmers on the stove, a rich concoction of soy sauce, mirin, and a blend of secret spices that Yumi learned from her grandmother.

A pot of boiling water awaits the fresh noodles she has prepared, each strand perfectly cooked to achieve that ideal balance of springiness. Yumi's culinary skills are a fusion of traditional family recipes and her own artistic touch.

As the savory aroma continues to fill the kitchen, Yumi can't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Cooking today is more than a chore; it is a connection to her roots and a way to share a piece of her cultural heritage with her boyfriend. Today, a homemade ramen feast awaits, a labor of love that promises to transport Ulrich to the bustling streets of Tokyo.

Yumi pulls her phone out of her back pocket and types out a quick text to her boyfriend: "on your way?"

She scrolls through social media as she waits for a response, which comes about a minute later: "yup, almost there"

It's all Yumi can do to keep from pacing around as she waits for Ulrich to arrive. She's been planning this surprise meal for weeks, and she can't wait to see the look on his face when he walks through the door.

Finally, the sound of the doorbell rings through the house. Yumi quickly wipes her hands on a towel and rushes to the door.

"Hey, Yumi," Ulrich greets her, a smile on his face.

"Hey," she replies, returning the smile. "Happy birthday."

"Thanks," he says, stepping inside.

"I hope you're hungry," Yumi says. She leads him into the kitchen.

"Starving," he replies.

"Good, because I made a lot of food."

They sit down at the table, and Yumi serves up two steaming bowls of ramen.

"No way! How'd you know that I've been wanting to try real ramen?" Ulrich exclaims, his eyes wide with surprise and delight.

"I have my ways," Yumi says mysteriously.

They dig into their meals, and the evening is spent enjoying each other's company and savoring every bite of the delicious ramen.

"That was amazing, Yumi," Ulrich says, leaning back in his chair. "Thank you so much."

"You're welcome," she replies, smiling. "I'm glad you liked it."

"I loved it," he corrects her. "It was the best birthday present ever."

"Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it," Yumi says, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "But it's not the only gift I have for you."

"Really?" Ulrich asks, his eyebrows raised.

"Really," she confirms. "Your other gift is upstairs."

"I can't wait," he says, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Come on," Yumi says, standing up and taking his hand.

She leads him up the stairs and into her bedroom.

"You know," Ulrich starts nervously, "I'm wondering where your family is right now."

"Oh, them? They're at Hiroki's rec game. They'll be out until who knows when."

"Ah, I see."

"So, anyway, your gift requires you to sit on my bed and close your eyes."

"O-okay," he stammers, doing as she instructed.

"Now, no peeking," she warns, a mischievous grin on her face.

"I won't," he promises.

Yumi rummages through her drawers as quietly as she can, trying to find the perfect outfit for the occasion. Finally, she finds what she's looking for: the newest addition to her underwear drawer, a black velvet and mesh panel lingerie dress with a heart-shaped bustier and two little black bows. With it is a tiny black thong. She engages Ulrich in light-hearted conversation to distract from the sound of her clothes coming off. "So, how was your day? Anything exciting happen before you came over?"

"Not really," he replies. "Just the usual."

"Well, I'm glad you're here," she says, slipping into the lingerie.

"Me too," he agrees.

"Okay, you can open your eyes now," she says, her voice slightly shaky.

Ulrich opens his eyes and is greeted by the sight of Yumi, clad in the sexy lingerie.

"Wow," he breathes, his eyes raking over her body. "You look... you look incredible."

"Thanks," she says.

"Come here," he says, reaching out for her.

She obliges, and he pulls her into his lap.

"Happy birthday," she whispers, her lips brushing against his.

"Best birthday ever," he murmurs, taking his shirt off before capturing her lips in a passionate kiss.

The two of them lose themselves in the moment, their bodies pressed together as they explore each other's mouths.

"God, you are so beautiful," Ulrich says, his voice husky with desire.

"You're not so bad yourself," she teases, her fingers tracing patterns on his chest.

"I want you," he growls, his hands roaming over her body.

"Then take me."

He doesn't need to be told twice. He lifts her up and lays her back down on the bed, his body covering hers. Their bodies move together in a sensual dance, their passion building with each touch and kiss. When he lifts the hem of the dress, he pulls the thong out of the way and slides his fingers between her folds, smiling against her skin at the sounds he elicits from her lips.

"That's it," he encourages, his thumb circling her clit. "Come for me."

Her body obeys, her orgasm crashing over her in waves of pleasure. "Fuck," she pants, her chest heaving.

"There you go," he murmurs, his lips finding hers in a searing kiss.

They break apart after a while, and it's all they can do to just breathe for a moment.

"That was..." Yumi trails off, unable to find the words to describe the intensity of the experience.

"Yeah," Ulrich agrees, his eyes full of adoration.

"I love you," she says.

"I love you too," he replies.

They spend the rest of the evening wrapped in each other's arms, making love and basking in the glow of their feelings for each other.
