The concert was over, the crowd had thinned out, and the mall was beginning to settle into the quiet hum of after-hours. Austin and Ally stood backstage, packing up their instruments and equipment, the warm glow of Christmas lights casting soft shadows on their faces.

Austin was smiling, his mood still elevated from the performance. Ally had been incredible on stage, her voice soaring beautifully through the festive songs. But despite the joy he felt in the moment, there was a part of him still restless, still unsure about something that had been nagging at him. The evening had gone smoothly, but there was that one lingering thought, the doubt he hadn't quite shaken off: Jared.

Jared, the talented musician who had been helping Ally with her recent songs. Jared, who always seemed to be around when Austin wasn't. Austin wasn't one to get jealous easily, but lately, every time he saw Jared and Ally together, something inside him twisted, like there was an invisible distance growing between them. Ally had reassured him countless times that they were just friends, but Austin couldn't help but feel insecure.

"Hey, can you hand me the amp?" Austin asked, breaking the silence as he shifted his gaze toward Ally.

Ally smiled, reaching for the amplifier nearby. She handed it over to him without hesitation. "Here you go."

Just as Austin was about to plug it in, he heard a voice behind him.

"Austin, Ally—hey!"

Austin turned to see Jared approaching them, his familiar grin in place. He had been at the concert earlier, mingling with the crowd and catching up with the performers, but now, he looked more serious, his expression a little more reserved.

"Hey, Jared," Ally greeted him warmly, her tone friendly. "What's up?"

Jared glanced at Austin briefly before his eyes returned to Ally. "Hey, Ally. I was hoping I could talk to you for a minute, if you're not too busy."

Austin's heart skipped a beat. There it was—the request he had feared. To talk to Ally alone.

He kept his face neutral, but internally, he felt a wave of discomfort wash over him. He glanced at Ally, trying to gauge her reaction. There was nothing unusual in her expression—she didn't seem annoyed or suspicious. She simply seemed… open. But Austin couldn't help the knot that tightened in his stomach.

"Alright," Ally said after a beat, a small smile playing on her lips. "Let's step outside for a minute."

Austin froze, his hand still on the amp. He tried to hide his growing frustration, but it wasn't easy. His mind raced as Ally walked away with Jared, her posture relaxed, her conversation with him casual, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. But to Austin, everything felt off.

He watched them walk toward the exit, Ally laughing lightly at something Jared had said. Austin clenched his jaw, his eyes following them as they moved farther away, disappearing around the corner of the stage.

"Everything okay?" Dez's voice broke through Austin's thoughts, and he turned to see his best friend standing nearby, giving him a curious look. Trish, who had been watching the exchange from a distance, raised an eyebrow as well.

Austin glanced at Dez and Trish, his expression tightening. "Yeah, just… not sure how I feel about this whole thing."

Trish, who had been quietly observing the situation, stepped closer to Austin, her face full of concern. "Wait, what do you mean? You don't think Ally and Jared are—"

"No!" Austin interrupted quickly, his voice a little sharper than he intended. "No, it's not that. I trust Ally. It's just… I don't like the idea of her walking off with him alone. It's just been bugging me lately, you know?"

Dez scratched his head, looking confused. "Dude, I get that you're a little protective of Ally, but they're friends. If she needs to talk to him about something, it's probably nothing. I mean, come on, it's Christmas Eve—what could go wrong?"

Austin shook his head, frustration mounting. "It's not about Christmas Eve or anything like that. It's just… I've been feeling like I'm losing her, and I hate feeling like I'm overreacting, but I can't help it."

Trish nodded, trying to offer some comfort. "I get it. But listen, Austin, Ally cares about you. She's not going to do anything that would hurt you. You need to trust her."

Austin exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "I know, I know. I just—" He broke off, glancing at the corner where Ally and Jared had walked off. His stomach twisted. "I don't want to feel like the guy who's overthinking everything, but… there's just something about it. Something doesn't sit right."

"I get it, man," Dez said. "But if you don't say something to her about how you're feeling, you're just going to let it eat at you. Trust me, I know how that goes."

Austin didn't respond right away. He knew Dez was right. He couldn't let his insecurities fester, but part of him wasn't sure how to approach Ally about it without sounding unreasonable. He didn't want to seem like the jealous boyfriend, the one who couldn't handle his girl having friends. He trusted Ally. Or at least, he wanted to trust her.

Before he could say anything more, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He glanced down at the screen, noticing a text from Ally.

"Hey, I'm coming back. Just needed a minute to talk things over with Jared. It's nothing to worry about!"

Austin read the message twice, letting the words settle in his mind. It's nothing to worry about. But even with that reassurance, a part of him couldn't shake the unease that still lingered.

"I guess she's coming back," Austin said, though his voice still sounded uncertain.

Dez gave him a sympathetic look. "Yeah, but if you're still feeling off about it, you need to talk to her. Don't let this fester. Communication, man."

Trish nodded in agreement, though her own feelings of jealousy seemed to be simmering beneath the surface as well. "I'm sure she'll be fine, but you have to be honest with her. Don't let this build up."

Austin swallowed hard, trying to take a deep breath. He knew they were right. If he kept letting these doubts fester, it would only push him further from Ally. He had to talk to her. He had to trust her.

A moment later, Ally reappeared around the corner, walking back toward them with Jared trailing behind her. She smiled at Austin, the same bright smile that always made his heart flutter, but this time, there was a hint of uncertainty in her eyes.

"Hey," she greeted him, her voice light. "Sorry, I just had to talk something over with Jared."

Austin forced a smile, though the tension in his chest was hard to ignore. "No problem. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's fine," Ally said, her tone reassuring. "It was just a quick chat about a song idea, that's all."

Jared gave Austin a friendly nod before excusing himself. "Alright, I'll see you guys later," he said, heading off toward the exit.

As the door closed behind Jared, Austin turned back to Ally, his smile faltering slightly. "You sure? Because you look like something's bothering you."

Ally hesitated for a second, then placed a hand on his arm. "I'm fine, Austin. I promise. It was just a quick conversation with Jared. You don't have to worry."

But even as she said those words, Austin couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Maybe it was the way she'd agreed to talk to Jared alone. Maybe it was the look in her eyes as she returned to him. Whatever it was, he knew one thing for sure—he had to talk to her. But for now, he simply nodded, the unease still hanging in the air between them.

"Okay," Austin said quietly, In the silence that followed, both of them knew: there were things left unsaid. And Austin wasn't sure how long he could ignore the nagging feeling growing inside of him.
