A/N: So, this is my first ever Charlet fic, but I already have more in the oven. This is just a silly little treat I wrote for today. I hope you enjoy it and if you don't , don't tell me, I don't wanna hear it.
Happy 2025, y'all .
"No, they will see and everyone will know"
Violet made a sound expressing her discontent "Please, I want to!" She insisted, giving the blonde a subtle nudge. They were both leaning against a wall, each with their respective glass of wine, looking at the people mingling in front of them. It was the Practice's New Year's party and also Violet and Charlotte's first time celebrating together "We can even do it outside"
Charlotte shook her head "And you don't think they will notice us sneaking out when they start the countdown? Everybody will be looking for you"
Violet rolled her eyes "We'll only be out for a couple of seconds, c'mon, Charlotte. It's the tradition, everyone does it"
"We can kiss at home" The blonde told her, this time she turned to look at her, offering a sincere smile, trying to make up for the moment they would miss.
Violet glanced up to the ceiling, releasing an exasperated sigh "Why is it so terrible that people could find out we're together?" She was upset.
Charlotte felt her chest tighten. She didn't know how to respond. At first, it was because neither of them was sure of what kind of relationship they had, plus, the blonde didn't want people to know she was sleeping with the most annoying person on the planet, it would stain her reputation. But they were 5 months in now. They were happy. They were in love. She wasn't embarrassed anymore, in fact, she had learned early on that being with Violet was actually something she wanted to gloat about, as odd as that was. She wanted to greet her with a kiss every time they saw each other in the halls, hold her hand during meetings or put her arm around her when they were having a group conversation in the kitchen. Charlotte wouldn't say all that out loud because it was all sappy nonsense, but she did want those moments.
Her silence prompted Violet to look back at her, the joyful lights of the Christmas decorations hit her eyes, making her unshed tears glisten.
The blonde gently took Violet's forearm with her free hand. A sorrowful look already in place. She didn't mean to upset her. Tonight was supposed to go great, it was New Year's eve, for God's sake! And Charlotte agreed to go to the damn party so Violet could be with her friends… like she always was "Vi…" she started, she was about to apologize, but when she saw the brunette roll her eyes, she decided to take another route "Well, we could have stayed at your house and we could have kissed as much as we wanted, but you wanted to come so-"
"Ah so it's my fault then" She nodded, there was a slight wobble in her voice "I'm sorry, I guess I just thought you trusted this relationship enough… No, I thought that you loved me enough to be able to kiss me in front of everyone tonight"
Charlotte mentally kicked herself, she should've gone with the apology "No, Vi. I'm s-"
"You know what? I'm not really in the mood for this"
Just as Violet finished her sentence, Addison walked up to them with a puzzled expression, making the blonde drop her hand instantly. The redhead's eyes were going from Charlotte to Violet over and over "Hey, everything alright?" She asked, her attention was now on Violet, of course.
Violet smiled bitterly and gave Charlotte one last look "No, not really" and with that, she walked away.
Charlotte couldn't help the scowl that was almost engraved on her face at this point. Addison was still there looking at her, it was like she was trying to decipher what had happened "What?" She snapped.
"Would you leave her alone? It's New Year's eve"
This. This was the reason she didn't want anyone to know. People always assumed the worst from her, what would they say if they knew the person they hated was dating their friend? They would for sure try to talk Violet out of it. It wasn't like Charlotte doubted the therapist, but if all your friends tell you you should leave your girlfriend, you'll eventually start to consider it. She wasn't ready for the snarky comments or the bitter glances. She just wanted Violet, not her friends. She downed the remains of her glass "Fuck off, Montgomery"
Violet looked like she was having a good time, she was chatting and laughing with Naomi and Cooper, every now and then she would glance in Charlotte's direction and her smile would falter. The blonde knew this wasn't final, it was just a fight they would talk about and get over, but that didn't change the fact that they were in a fight. Violet had been so excited to spend their first holidays together and now the moment would be tarnished.
The brunette looked so cute in her black 'princessy' dress, Violet's words, not hers; she was even wearing a petticoat underneath the thing. To Charlotte, if they had to categorize the dress to a fictional type of animation, it would be more like a fairy dress, since the skirt fell just a bit over the knees and the princesses she knew used long dresses, but she wasn't about to argue over a made up term. The important thing was that she looked endearing and it was killing her that she couldn't just go and embrace her.
It was 11:58 pm, everyone was starting to gather around the big screen. Cooper took the brunette's hand and they both walked towards everyone else, she gave him a sad smile and looked to where Charlotte had been standing all night, but the blonde had moved to another spot, still able to see Violet's panicked face as she looked everywhere with not much subtlety. There was a hint of disappointment in her eyes when she wasn't able to spot her, she nodded to herself and turned to the tv, letting her head fall on Cooper's shoulder, allowing him to plant a kiss on top of her head.
"11:59!" Someone on the tv announced. She passed a hand through her hair, did she really want this to be the remainder of their first holidays together? They would have to tell people eventually anyway, what difference would it be now or in a week or a month?
"TWENTY!" God, did these people ever get anything right? They were supposed to start counting at 10.
"NINETEEN!" Her heart skipped, she couldn't ponder anymore. Was this worth it?
"EIGHTEEN! SEVENTEEN!" She watched Pete walk over to Addison and put an arm around her waist.
"FIFTEEN! FOURTEEN! THIRTEEN!" The couples were starting to get giddy, everyone was getting closer, exchanging looks, having fun, but Charlotte was miserable and she knew Violet was too.
"TWELVE! ELEVEN!" Their chant was getting louder.
"TEN!"
"NINE!" Oh, screw it! If they were gonna hate her, so be it, she wasn't about to ruin her or Violet's night over these people's opinions.
"EIGHT!" She quickly started walking towards the crowd, which, for being such a small practice, was quite big.
"SEVEN! SIX!" It took a couple pushes, but she finally made it.
"FIVE!" She pulled Violet by her wrist, the brunette looked visibly thrilled to see her standing there, she had clearly thought she had gone home.
"FOUR!" Violet let go of her friend's hand so she could fully turn to Charlotte "Are you sure?"
"THREE!" Charlotte knew the brunette didn't want to pressure her, she was upset, but she wouldn't put her feelings over Charlotte's, so the blonde nodded, the corners of her mouth quirking up.
They stood in front of each other, their fingers intertwined as they both chanted with everyone else "TWO!"
Her heart was racing, they were doing it. It felt weirdly exciting, they wouldn't have to hide anymore "ONE!"
And so they kissed. It might have been the most meaningful kiss they had shared next to their first one. It was tender, Violet's arms rounded her shoulders, while Charlotte's did the same to the brunette's waist. All the music, the laughs and mumbling were muffled, leaving only the two of them at that moment. Charlotte smiled into the kiss, it felt like putting a bookmark to what the next chapter would be.
Eventually, they had to break apart. They smiled, resting their foreheads against each other's, they were in their own world until a voice behind them brought them back to reality.
"Okay, what the hell was that?"
