Star wasn't doing that great. She just recently came up with the plan to destroy all of magic as she felt that most of the problems were because of magic.
She also didn't have a way to defeat Mina Loveberry as she swore her loyalty to Queen Solaria, but due to her being dead, it wasn't an option.
Star was determined to see it through and her now boyfriend Marco was willing to help in any way he could. With the help of Moon, Eclipsa, and Meteora, the four were successful in destroying all magic. But then Star realized the consequences of her actions.
Glossaryck: (laughs) I can't believe you actually did it. It looks like the age of magic is coming to a close. Well, for what it's worth... I think you made the right choice. I'm proud of you, kid.
Star: Glossaryck, what's... what's going to happen to you?
Glossaryck: Well, a good captain always goes down with his ship.
Star then realized that everyone made of magic was about to die because of her!
Star: Wait! I didn't mean to-
Moon: Star! We need to go! The portals are closing!
Even though Star did find Glossaryck annoying sometimes, she would call him a real friend. But she can't fix her mistakes now. She was about to follow Moon, but then she realized how hard it was to leave. Her boyfriend then runs to her.
Marco: (panting) Star? Okay, what's the plan?
Star: Uh... you have to go back through the Earth well!
Marco: Yeah, okay, but what's the plan for seeing each other? There's a plan, right?
Star: Uh, yeah! Yeah, of course! Of course, there's a plan! But you gotta get going before we get stuck here!
Star's eyes start to water. She didn't want to leave him, but they had to go back to where they belonged.
Marco: Star?
Star and Marco hug as the storm rages around them. Marco isn't an idiot. He realizes that this is the last time he'll see Star. And neither were happy about it. Marco pulls away with tears in his eyes, hugging his midsection.
Marco: Bye, Star.
Star: ...Bye.
Marco runs toward the Earth well.
Moon: (o.s.) Star!
Star wipes her tears away as she runs up to Moon, and they travel up the Mewni well. The inside of the Magic Sanctuary floods with dark-green water as Moon and Star emerge from the well. Star stares at the ground, unmoving with tears in her eyes.
Moon: Star... I'm so sorry.
The Sanctuary starts to quake.
Eclipsa: We need to get out of here!
Moon tries to pull her daughter, but Star remains still. Looking down at the well. She then remembers the first time she left Marco when it was out of her control. Where she first revealed her feelings to him. She didn't have a choice but to leave him then. And she didn't have a choice now. At least at first…
Moon: (looks at Star) Star?
Star: ...I'm going to Earth. I'm sorry, Mom!
Moon: No...! WAIT! PLEASE!
Star lets go of Moon's hand and falls back inside the well.
Moon: STAR! NO!
Moon tries to go after her, but Eclipsa stops her. Practically dragging her away.
Star falls back into the Realm of Magic and lands face-first in the dark green water. She looks up and sees Glossaryck.
Star: Glossaryck! I'm so sorry! I-
Glossaryck: Don't worry. I knew this would happen. Unfortunately for you, it looks like the three of us are going down on the ship.
Star is confused until she realizes-
Glossaryck: The Earth well closed a while ago. But the kid's still here.
Glossaryck points to Marco, who is crouched down next to a cracked rock and holding his stomach. A shocked Star runs to him with tears in her eyes. Hearing her footsteps, Marco gasps at the sight.
Marco: Star?
Star: (gasps) Marco! W-What are you doing here?!
Marco: Well... (chuckles) ...guess the same thing as you.
They both realize that they're stuck here. The storm around them continues to rage.
Marco: So... any idea what happens if we stay here?
Star: No. And I don't care. (hugs Marco) Because with or without magic...
Star's heart-shaped cheek marks start to glow.
Marco: ...I refuse to be without you.
Crescent-shaped marks glow on Marco's cheeks. As Star and Marco embrace, a swirling vortex of light appears underneath them, and everything is engulfed in white light.
Suddenly both Star and Marco's eyes shoot open. Star realizes that she's in Moon's arms. Noticing that Moon's cheek marks are gone. Marco is on a hospital stretcher next to Britta's Tacos. Both are sad that they aren't with the other, but they know that there is no other option. Both then get distracted by a bright light. They look closer and see that it's not just a normal light. It's a portal!
{Btw everything that happened before seeing the portal like Star checking up on Pony Head still happens.}
Both run as fast as they can thinking the same thing. This might be their only chance to see the other! They keep running as much as their legs can carry them. Marco even borrows Jackie's skateboard. Marco reaches Stop & Slurp. The first place where he met Star. He forms tears in his eyes when he realizes the portal is closing. Star is outside the abandoned Butterfly Castle. Both are close to the portal.

Both then make it. They jump towards the portal. Both reach out their arms. Their hands are inside the portal! They grab each other's hands. But, before they could do anything else… The portal explodes!
Moon then runs up to where the portal once was. All that remains is some of Star's hair. Realizing what might have happened, Moon begins to cry but then sees a bit of Marco's hoodie. Moon thinks that maybe Star went to Earth. While Moon isn't ok with it, at least she knows that Star is happy.
Although neither Star nor Marco are on Earth!
Jackie also runs up to where the portal once was. She first sees a bit of Marco's hoodie and a little bit of Star's hair. She thinks that Marco is on Mewni with Star, but we just saw that isn't true.
So… If they weren't on Mewni or Earth… Is it possible that they died? Or maybe they went somewhere?
Either way. No matter where they end up, they will be together. They belong together.
Ok keep in mind that I haven't watched the show in a while, and this is from what I remember. So, I probably said something wrong, but I don't really care atm.
This is my interpretation of how I think Cleaved should've ended. I thought that their dimensions being combined came out of nowhere. Sure, it was kinda foreshadowed, but it was from ONE line, and it could've been about ANYTHING. "You can cleave something apart, or you can cleave something together."
Also didn't like that all Marco and Star did when they saw each other was say hi. No hug and no kiss. IT SUCKED! And yeah, I did just do that, but at least it kinda makes sense. Star tried to destroy magic. No way was she going to get away with its Scott-free. She KILLED people! But at the same time, I'm leaving it ambiguous to a possible happy ending. So, whatever you choose could be correct.
