Prologue: A Tale of two Souls and Light and Darkness
_
In a world divided by the eternal struggle between light and darkness, two kingdoms stood in constant conflict – the Kingdom of White, ruled by the benevolent Queen of Light, and the Kingdom of Black, governed by the tyrannical King of Darkness.
The Kingdom of White was a realm of radiant beauty, where the sun's rays danced across the land, illuminating the lush forests, sparkling rivers, and towering mountains. Its people lived in harmony, embracing the warmth and wisdom of the Queen of Light, who guided them with a gentle yet unwavering hand.
In contrast, the Kingdom of Black was shrouded in perpetual gloom, where the shadows of the King of Darkness reigned supreme. The land was a desolate wasteland, with twisted, gnarled trees and a constant chill that seeped into the bones of its inhabitants. The people lived in fear, their lives dictated by the whims of the cruel and merciless ruler.
For generations, the two kingdoms had been locked in a bitter and unforgiving war, each side vying for dominance and the ultimate control over the balance of light and dark. The battles were fierce, with both sides unleashing their most powerful magic and armies against each other, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
But amidst the chaos, a glimmer of hope emerged in the form of the Prince of Darkness and the Queen of Light. Though they were born into opposing kingdoms, they shared a deep and profound connection, a bond that transcended the boundaries of their respective realms.
The Prince of Darkness, a young man born from the world of darkness and a mind of brilliance, had always been torn between his loyalty to his kingdom, the King of Darkness, and his desire for peace and harmony for his people. He had witnessed firsthand the devastation that the war had wrought, and he longed for a world where light and dark could coexist in balance.
The Queen of Light, a woman of unparalleled grace and power, had always been a beacon of hope for her people. She had dedicated her life to preserving the delicate balance between light and dark, and she knew that the only way to achieve true peace was to confront the King of Darkness and put an end to the endless cycle of conflict.
As the war raged on, the Prince of Darkness and the Queen of Light found themselves drawn to each other, their paths crossing in the most unexpected of ways.
One day, the Queen of Light was notified that an envoy from the Kingdom of Black was coming bearing a message from the King of Darkness. Intrigued by the sudden communication, she decided to meet with them.
The envoy was none other than the Prince of Darkness himself, disguised as an emissary. His heart pounded in his chest as he approached the gleaming gates of the Kingdom of White. The guards eyed him suspiciously, their hands tight on the hilts of their swords. He presented the letter, the seal of the King of Darkness stark against the envelope's pristine white paper.
He was then escorted into the grand throne room of the Kingdom of White. The knight's told him to wait at the door while they announced his presence to the Queen. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his nerves, but the anticipation of what was to come was too overwhelming. The room was vast, with high ceilings adorned with intricate carvings of mythical beasts basking in the warm glow of the chandeliers. The walls were made of a luminescent material that radiated a soft light, casting a serene glow across the room. The throne, at the far end, was an impressive structure of ivory and gold, surrounded by a semicircle of lesser seats where the Queen's advisors and courtiers sat, watching him intently.
The doors creaked open and the Queen of Light entered, her flowing gown shimmering like a thousand stars. Her eyes, a piercing blue, searched the room until they fell upon him. Time seemed to slow as their gazes met, and the Prince felt his heart skip a beat. He had never seen such beauty and grace before. It was love at first sight, a feeling so powerful it took his breath away. He had heard the whispers of her kindness and wisdom, but seeing her in person was like witnessing the dawn after a lifetime of darkness.
"Thank you for waiting," the Queen of Light spoke, her voice like a melody that resonated through the vast chamber. The Prince of Darkness, still in awe, managed a slight bow, his eyes never leaving hers.
"Thank you for granting me an audience, Your Majesty." The Prince of Darkness's voice was steady despite his racing heart. He then revealed himself, removing the hood of his cloak. A murmur of shock rippled through the room. The Queen of Light's advisors leaned in, whispering among themselves, their expressions a mix of alarm and curiosity.
The Queen of Light's eyes widened in surprise, but there was no fear in them, only curiosity. She sat on her throne, her posture regal yet welcoming. "Your true identity is quite unexpected," she said, her voice filled with a gentle warmth that seemed to light up the room even more. "I read your king's message.
"At present, relations between the kingdoms of Black and White are far from amicable," the Queen of Light began, her gaze never leaving the Prince's. "In fact, the present situation could easily lead to the destruction of either. Perhaps even both."
The Prince nodded. "It is as Your Majesty says."
"Yet, the message you brought proposes a temporary alliance?" The Queen of Light leaned forward slightly, her eyes searching the Prince's for any signs of deceit.
"While it is not always true that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, there are always grounds for a united front." The Prince of Darkness stepped closer, his eyes filled with earnestness. "The threat that looms over us is one that neither of our kingdoms can face alone."
"True." The Queen of Light's voice was thoughtful as she considered the gravity of his words. "There is someone that causes harm and destruction for no purpose except for its own amusement."
"It's the same in our lands," the Prince of Darkness agreed, his voice low and intense.
"I sympathies with your plight," the Queen of Light said, her voice filled with genuine concern. "However, once Bahl, the incarnation of Destruction, is defeated, who is to say that the King of Darkness will not turn his forces against us once more?"
The Prince of Darkness closed his eyes for a moment. It was to be expected that she would be cautious. He took a deep breath before speaking. "Your Majesty, I understand your concern. But, what you said is only true under the current king."
The Queen of Light's gaze softened slightly, curiosity piqued. "And what does that mean?"
"The King is considering abdicating the throne in the not-too-distant future. He has already reigned for a considerable number of years. His reign has been one of fear and despair," the Prince of Darkness revealed.
The Queen of Light's eyebrows shot up. "What you suggest is quite a revelation, Prince. If the King of Darkness steps down, then you will be the one who will ascend the throne?"
The Prince of Darkness nodded solemnly. "Yes, Your Majesty. And it is my intention to bring peace and harmony to both our lands. A balance between light and dark, where the people of the Kingdom of Black are no longer feared, but respected."
"Pardon me, but is that your true intention?" An advisor spoke up, skepticism coating his words like a thick fog.
The Prince of Darkness turned to face the advisor, his eyes alight with conviction. "Yes, it is. The people of the Kingdom of Black crave peace as much as those in the Kingdom of White."
"I find that hard to believe from someone born of the very essence of darkness," the Queen of Light's most trusted advisor said, his eyes narrowing at the Prince of Darkness.
"Believe it or not, the desire for peace is universal, even within the heart of one such as myself," the Prince replied, his voice steady and firm. The Queen of Light studied him closely, searching for any hint of duplicity. But all she saw was the sincerity of a man longing for change.
"What do you think, Queen of Light, Iris?" The Prince asked, using her name for the first time, the sound rolling off his tongue with an unexpected fondness.
Her eyes searched his, the depth of his feeling evident in his gaze. "I believe you, Prince," she said softly, and the room fell silent.
"However, please give me some time to consider this proposal," the Queen of Light, Iris, said with a nod. "An alliance of this magnitude is not to be entered into lightly."
The Prince of Darkness nodded. "Of course," he said, his voice a gentle caress. "Take all the time you need."
As the days passed, the temporary alliance was forged between the Kingdom of White and the Kingdom of Black, their combined forces focusing on the greater threat that loomed over their lands – Bahl, the incarnation of Destruction. The Queen of Light, Iris, and the Prince of Darkness, met frequently in the grand halls of the White Kingdom, planning strategies until it was time to face the enemy together.
In the end, Bahl has been sealed in Tartarus, The King of Darkness's flaming prison, and peace seems to be finally within reach. However, the alliance between the two kingdoms is still in its infancy.
The King of Darkness sent another message to the Queen of Light, requesting an extension of the peace until the damage caused by Bahl has been repaired.
"He... really said that?" The Prince of Darkness's asked with astonishment, his eyes wide as he took in the words the Queen of Light had just spoken.
"Indeed," she replied with a small smile, "He also request that you remain here for the time being," her voice showed how happy she was by this proposition.
"Me?" He was surprised by the king's sudden change of heart. "Why would he want me to stay?"
Iris placed a gentle hand on his arm. "Perhaps he sees the potential for peace in your eyes, just as I do."
The Prince looked at her, his own eyes reflecting the hope that had been rekindled within him. "If I stay, we can work together, side by side, to ensure that the alliance holds," he said, his voice filled with excitement at the possibility.
The Queen of Light nodded thoughtfully. "Yes, and perhaps together, we can convince our people that peace is indeed achievable."
The Prince of Darkness felt his heart swell with hope. "Your faith in me is humbling, Your Majesty," he said, his voice low and sincere. "I will not disappoint you."
Weeks have gone by since the alliance had been forged, and during the Prince of Darkness's stay, he and Queen Iris had spent countless hours together, not just strategizing but getting to know one another. Their shared passion for peace had blossomed into something more profound, something that neither had anticipated, something that was considered forbidden in the eyes of their respective kingdoms.
One evening, as they sat in the Queen's private garden, surrounded by the soft glow of bioluminescent flowers that bloomed only at night, the Queen of Light turned to the Prince, her expression a mix of vulnerability and determination. "Your Highness, I must admit, your presence here has been a beacon of hope for many. The people of my kingdom have seen the possibility of peace reflected in your eyes."
The Prince of Darkness took her hand in his, his thumb tracing circles on the back of her hand as they sat together on the marble bench. "Your trust in me, Your Majesty, it means more than words can express." His voice was warm and gentle, a stark contrast to the harsh tones of his upbringing.
Queen Iris looked at him, her gaze filled with a warmth that seemed to melt away the shadows that clung to him. "Call me Iris," she said softly. "We are beyond titles now."
The Prince of Darkness felt a jolt of something unfamiliar. "Iris," he repeated, testing the name on his tongue. It felt right, somehow.
"Iris," he whispered again, turning to face her, his eyes searching hers. "I never thought I would find someone like you in the light."
She blushed, looking away shyly. "And I, in the dark," she murmured.
Their conversation grew quieter as the night deepened, the only sound the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze.
"Iris," the Prince of Darkness began, his voice thick with emotion. "I must confess something to you."
The Queen looked up at him, her eyes filled with curiosity. "What is it?"
He took a deep breath, his hand tightening around hers. "I have feelings for you that go beyond friendship, Iris," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "I know it is unorthodox, perhaps even treasonous, but my heart cannot be contained by the boundaries of our kingdoms."
The Queen's eyes widened, but she did not pull away. Instead, she leaned closer, her voice barely above a murmur. "And what kind of feelings are these?"
The Prince of Darkness looked at her, the candlelight playing across his features, highlighting the conflict within him. "Feelings of love," he confessed, the word escaping him like a breath held too long. "I love you, Iris."
Her eyes searched his, the depth of his emotion resonating within her own heart. "And I," she began, her voice trembling with the weight of her own revelation, "I love you too."
With those words, the air between them grew thick with unspoken understanding and desire. The Prince of Darkness leaned in, his hand cupping her cheek, and their lips met in a soft, gentle kiss. It was a kiss that spoke of a love that had grown in the unlikeliest of places, a love that was as unexpected as it was powerful. The Queen of Light closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his touch spread through her body, mingling with the light that was her very essence.
From that day onwards, the Queen of Light, Iris, and the Prince of Darkness grew closer, their love for each other growing stronger with every shared smile and whispered secret. As the nights grew longer and the moon waxed and waned, they found themselves stealing moments of intimacy whenever they could, their hearts beating as one in a dance of light and shadow.
Their love was a secret they guarded fiercely, a beacon of hope in a world torn apart by war and mistrust. Whenever they were together, it was as if the very fabric of their realms shifted to accommodate their union, the light and the dark swirling around them in a harmonious embrace. They made love in the soft light of the moon, their bodies entwined like vines, their breaths mingling in a symphony of passion and longing.
The Queen of Light, Iris, had never felt such warmth before. Her skin, so used to the cool kiss of her kingdom's glow, was set alight by the Prince's touch, a stark contrast to the icy chill of the shadows he had been born from. His hands roamed her body with a reverence that seemed almost sacred, tracing the contours of her light as if he sought to memorize every curve, every line.
The Prince of Darkness, whose heart had been cloaked in shadows for so long, felt as though he was basking in the warm embrace of the sun for the first time in his life. The Queen of Light, Iris, had brought him a warmth and light that he had never experienced before, and as they lay in each other's arms, their hearts beating in a symphony of passion, he knew that this was where he truly belonged.
"Iris," he whispered against her neck, feeling the pulse of her life force beneath his lips. "I never knew that love could feel like this."
"Nor did I," she replied, her voice a soft sigh of contentment. "It is as if we were two halves of a whole, separated by fate and reunited in this tumultuous world."
The Prince of Darkness, whose true name was Kanata, pulled her closer, their bodies fitting together as if they had been crafted to do so. "I am afraid for what tomorrow may bring," he admitted, his voice a whisper in the night. "But, all I know is. I want to be with you forever, and I want you to be with me."
Iris looked up at him, her eyes filled with the soft light of the moon. "Forever is a long time, my love," she said, her voice filled with a gentle tease. "But, I am willing to take that risk with you."
Kanata, the Prince of Darkness, kissed her again, his lips lingering on hers. "Then let us make a promise," he whispered, his breath warm against her skin. "Whenever our paths diverge, whenever the world tries to tear us apart, we shall find our way back to each other."
Iris nodded, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "A promise," she murmured, her voice barely audible. "We shall be the light that pierces the dark, and the dark that grounds the light."
"And together," Kanata continued, his voice filled with hope and determination, "we will create a world where both can exist in harmony."
Iris nodded, a soft smile playing on her lips. "We will be the bridge between the two realms, the embodiment of balance," she said, her eyes shining with a light that seemed to reach into the very depths of his soul.
The promise of forever seemed to hang in the air as they held each other tightly, the scent of the night's blooming flowers surrounding them like a protective embrace. It would seem that their love had grown so strong that it could conquer any obstacle.

What they didn't expect was the sudden turn of events caused by the Kingdom of Black. The King of Darkness was using the time he had from the temporary peace to gather his most devoted followers, those who were willing to do anything to keep the balance tipped in their favor. He had been playing a cunning game, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
The day came when the Kingdom of Black launched a surprise attack on the Kingdom of White, catching the Queen of Light and her people completely off guard. Thousands of air ships and monsters of shadow descended from the sky, laying waste to everything in their path. The Queen's eyes searched the chaos for any sign of Kanata, her heart heavy with dread.
In the midst of the battle, she found him, standing frozen amidst the carnage, his eyes filled with horror as he watched his father's forces ravage the lands he had come to love. "Kanata," she called out to him, her voice a beacon of light in the chaos.
The Prince of Darkness, torn by the sight before him, turned to her, his expression a mix of guilt and despair. "Iris, I'm sorry," he shouted over the din of battle. "I never meant for this to happen."
Her eyes searched his, finding the truth in his words. "It's not your fault, Kanata," she said, her voice steady despite the tremor that ran through her. "You were lied to, just as we all were."
"The King of Darkness never intended for peace," Iris said, her voice strong despite the fear that clutched at her heart. "He used you, used us, to lower our defenses. Just so he could strike when we least expected it."
Kanata knelt before Iris, his eyes were blazing green with rage at the Kings betrayal. "I will not stand by and watch as he destroys what we have worked so hard to achieve," he shouted, the ground trembling beneath his feet as his power grew.
"I'm going to end this," Kanata said, his voice tight with rage. "I will not let him use our love for his own twisted purposes."
"You're going alone?!" Iris's voice was filled with alarm and disbelief as she stared at the Prince of Darkness, her hand clutching the soft fabric of his cloak.
"I must," Kanata said with a firmness that brooked no argument. "I am the Prince of Darkness, successor to the throne of the Kingdom of Black. It is my duty to right the wrongs that have been committed in its name."
Iris knew that she could not change his mind. Her heart swelled with pride and love for him, even as it ached with the thought of the battle to come. "Then let us do this together," she said, standing tall beside him, her hand finding its way to his.
"Iris-"
"No, Kanata," the Queen of Light interrupted firmly. "Remember what you said? You want me to be with you forever. Then we fight together. For our love, for our kingdoms, and for the future we dreamt of."
The Prince of Darkness looked into her eyes, the love and determination reflected back at him, and he knew she was right. They couldn't do this alone. Together, they had the power to change the fate of their world. He nodded, standing by her side, his hand in hers. "Together," he agreed.
They turned to face the onslaught of the Kingdom of Black's forces, their hearts heavy with the weight of their decision. At the same time, both figures, one of light and the other of darkness, raised their hands. A surge of power erupted from their palms, a swirling maelstrom of light and shadow that grew in intensity until it was blinding, casting an eerie glow upon the battlefield.
In the hands of Kanata, revealed the Great Sword of Darkness, a sword that had been passed down through generations of rulers in his kingdom. In the hands of Iris, revealed the Sword of Light, a sword that had been forged from the very essence of her own power. Together, they stood as the embodiment of the balance they had sought to restore.
Their combined power was unlike anything the world had ever seen, a testament to the love and determination that had brought them together. They moved in perfect harmony, the light and dark dancing around them as they faced the relentless tide of the King of Darkness's forces. Each swing of their swords sent ripples through the air, cleaving through the enemy ranks like a hot knife through butter.
The King of Darkness, watching from his throne in the distance, could feel the tide of battle turning against him. His once-confident smile twisted into a snarl as he realized that his own successor and the Queen of Light were the ones leading the charge. He had underestimated the bond that had formed between them.
"Your love is your downfall, boy," the King of Darkness spat, his eyes burning with a malevolent light. "It is a weakness that I never allowed myself to possess."
"And look where it has gotten you," Kanata retorted, his grip on the Great Sword of Darkness tightening. "Alone, feared by all, and with a kingdom on the brink of ruin."
Iris stood beside her beloved, her Sword of Light pulsing with an intensity that seemed to challenge the very night sky. "Your reign ends now," she declared, her voice resonating with power and conviction.
"Come at me then, Queen of Light, Prince of Darkness! Show me the might of your impure love!" The King of Darkness jeered, his laugh echoing through the ravaged landscape as he watched his successor and the enemy queen stand united against him.
With that, Kanata and Iris charged forward at the King of Darkness, their swords a blur as they moved in a symphony of light and shadow. The King of Darkness, a towering figure cloaked in the blackest of shadows, sneered at the approaching pair. He raised his own weapon, a staff that crackled with the essence of the void, ready to unleash a storm of darkness upon them.
The clash of their swords was deafening, lightning arcing between the Great Sword of Darkness and the Sword of Light as they met with a force that sent shockwaves through the battlefield. The air was charged with the electricity of their power, and the ground beneath their feet trembled as the very fabric of their world was pushed to its limits.
The battle lasted for what felt like an eternity, the three of them locked in a fierce dance of power and will. Each blow was met with an equally powerful counter, the air crackling with the intensity of their struggle. The Queen of Light's sword sang with a high-pitched note that seemed to cut through the very fabric of darkness, while the Prince of Darkness' blade thundered with a bass that shook the earth beneath them.
"Kanata, we must end this," Iris called out, her voice carrying the urgency of the moment. "Our power together can seal him away. We must do it now!"
Kanata nodded, his eyes gleaming with fierce resolve. "On the count of three," he said, his grip on the Great Sword of Darkness unyielding. "One... Two... Three!"
As one, they swung their swords in a graceful arc that culminated in a point directed at the heart of the King of Darkness. The light and dark collided with the force of a supernova, the resulting explosion of power sending shockwaves across the battlefield. The ground trembled, the sky cracked, and for a moment, the world was bathed in a blinding flash of pure white and deepest black.
The King of Darkness bellowed in rage, his form distorting as the combined might of the two opposing elements bore down on him. The Great Sword of Darkness and the Sword of Light pierced his chest, their points meeting at the center of his twisted heart. "Nooo!" he roared, his eyes wide with disbelief and fury as he felt his power wane.
The air grew thick with energy, the very fabric of the world seemingly straining under the weight of their combined forces. "I will not be defeated that easily!" he screamed, his voice a cacophony of anger and despair.
With the final ounce of strength left in him, the King of Darkness swung his staff in a wide arc, aiming for the heart of the Queen of Light. "You will not rob me of my throne," he snarled, his eyes alight with a malevolent glee.
But fate had other plans. With a roar that seemed to shake the very heavens, Kanata stepped into the path of the lethal blow, his sword shimmering with the light of a thousand stars. The impact was brutal, the force of the dark magic slammed into him like a mountain's fury. The Prince of Darkness staggered back, the Great Sword of Darkness slipping from his grasp, his body wracked with pain.
Iris screamed as she watched the man she loved take the hit that was meant for her. Her eyes widened with horror as she saw him crumple to the ground, the life seeping out of him with every painful breath. "Kanata!" she yelled, dropping her own sword to rush to his side.
The King of Darkness sneered, his body already beginning to disintegrate under the weight of their combined power. "You fool," he spat. "You could have had it all."
But Kanata, the Prince of Darkness, now lying on the ground, had found a strength beyond his own. "I already have," he managed to whisper, his eyes never leaving Iris's face.
The King of Darkness's form was fading, the power of the swords too much for even his dark essence to withstand. "Don't think this is the end. Once this seal weakens I will return!" His cackling laughter faded into the void as the light and darkness swallowed him whole.
The world around them grew still, the battlefield silent except for the soft whisper of the wind. The light and dark power dissipated, leaving only the two swords, their points still touching the ground where the king had stood. The seal was complete.
Iris cradled Kanata's head in her lap, her hands shaking with fear and anger. "Why?" she choked out, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Why did you do it?"
He smiled up at her, the pain etched in every line of his face. "Because I love you," he murmured, his voice faint. "And I will always protect you."
"No," she sobbed, her heart breaking as she watched the life leave his eyes. "This can't be it. We had so much to do, so much to change."
"Iris," he breathed, his hand reaching up to caress her cheek. "Remember our promise. Whenever we are apart, I will find my way back to you. Our love is the bridge that connects the light and the dark."
The Queen of Light leaned down, her forehead resting against his. "Forever," she whispered, her voice breaking. "That's why I'll join you soon."
The Prince of Darkness frowned in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I will not live in a world where you do not exist," Iris said, her voice trembling. "I will not be the Queen of a kingdom that took you from me."
Kanata's eyes searched hers, understanding dawning in his gaze. "Iris, no. You must live. You are the light this world needs."
"And you are the darkness that balances it," she replied, her voice filled with a quiet determination. "But without you, there is no balance."
Their eyes met in a silent understanding, a promise that transcended the boundaries of life and death. With a tremble in her voice, Iris whispered, "I will find you again, my love. In the next life, in the stars, in every shadow and beam of light. We will not be parted."
Kanata's smile was filled with peace, despite the pain. "I will do the same. I will wait for you, Iris, my light. I will always be with you, in every moment of darkness and every ray of hope."
The Queen of Light leaned down to kiss him one last time, her tears mixing with the blood that stained his lips. As their lips parted, a soft light began to emanate from her and a dark glow began to pulse from him. The light grew brighter and brighter until it enveloped them both, blending into a swirl of light and shadow.
The light and darkness that had enveloped them grew into a swirling vortex, a testament to the balance they had sought to maintain. The two figures within grew smaller and smaller until they were but specks of light and shadow, lost in the vastness of the cosmos. Their spirits, forever intertwined, awaited the cycle of life to turn once more, eager to find each other again.
