The Mummy's Curse
Summary: The boys learn their writer friend might be in trouble again and go to New York to investigate. Instead of saving Castle, Dean and Sam have to help Ryan and Esposito. How will the encounter play out? Will the curse be broken.
AN: I had two reviewers ask for another Castle-Supernatural crossover, so, here it is. :) I hope they enjoy this one as much as they did the other one, Supernatural Heat. This was fun to write. Thanks for checking it out and please stay safe out there! Love to you all!
Happy New Year!

"Hey, Bobby, what's up?" Sam answered on the second ring.
"Where you boys at?" Bobby asked.
"Just outside Cleveland, why?" Sam told him.
"Well, there's something happening in New York." Bobby hedged.
"Okay, why call us about it? Aren't there any hunters there?" Sam wondered.
"What's goin' on?" Dean needed to know in case he needed to change directions.
Sam held his hand up, not wanting to miss what Bobby was saying.
"There are but they're all busy, besides, I thought you boys would want to look into this one yourselves." Bobby shared.
"Oookayyy, why?" Sam was confused. What would be of interest to them in New York? They had done a few jobs in New York, sure, but not many and it had been quite some time since they had been there.
"Well, it seems your writer friend may be in trouble again." Bobby finally stated.
"What? What happened?" Sam's concern came through the line clearly.
"Don't know it all, just that the word is that some detective is investigating a murder of a museum employee or something. Since the NYPD is involved, many don't want to touch this but I think you boys need to see what's going on. Watch your back!" Bobby explained.
"Send us what you've got and we'll check it out." Sam said as he closed the phone.
"Well?" Dean impatiently asked.
"Looks like we're going to New York." Sam answered.
"Okay, why?" Dean prompted.
"Apparently, Richard Castle has gotten himself cursed again or is mixed up with someone who is cursed." Sam explained.
"But why are we going? Not that I don't like the dude, he was cool and all but why us?" Dean wanted to know.
"Bobby thought we would like to take this one due to our run-in last year." Sam said.
"Why don't the hunters in New York check this out?" Dean was curious.
"Because the NYPD are involved due to investigating a murder." Sam gave his brother a look that clearly said "duh".
"And that has to do with us how?" Dean queried.
"It has to do with us because the murdered victim worked at the museum. He was the archeologist that found the burial site of a Mayan King." Sam answered.
"Seriously, Sam, the mummy's curse?" Dean huffed.
"Seriously, man. I'm looking at what Bobby sent me and it would seem this Mayan King had a curse placed upon himself that whoever looks at him, death will follow." Sam shook his head.
Dean ran a hand through his hair, "Well, it seems our writer friend knows how to get into trouble."
"Yeah, he does. So, we gonna go?" Sam wanted to know.
"Absolutely, least we can do. I mean, he did dedicate that book to us after all." Dean answered.
"Alright, I'll see what I can find while you get us there." Sam started looking through the information Bobby had emailed him.
After driving for eight hours, Dean pulled into a motel for the night. Sam had read and studied all Bobby had sent them but had to shut his laptop down midway through the drive for two reasons: one, the battery was getting low and two; he had no internet on the road so no further research could be done.
Since the laptop needed time to recharge, Sam and Dean went to the nearest diner for food before Dean dropped Sam off and hit a few bars. While Dean was out drinking and trying to get laid, Sam used the internet to research the Mayan King that was causing all the trouble. A bit after midnight, Sam shut the computer down and crawled into bed knowing his brother would be back in a few hours, too late to share anything.

"Dude, you should've seen the chick I was with last night. She was HOT." Dean grinned at Sam who was still sprawled out on the bed next to his.
"I don't want to hear any details, Dean, it's too early." Sam muttered into his pillow.
"Wasn't planning on telling you anything, bitch. Now get up, time to eat." Dean threw his pillow at Sam's head and chuckled when Sam tucked it close to his body.
"I'm gonna go grab us some breakfast." Dean shared as he grabbed his keys and left.
"Jerk" Sam tossed Dean's pillow back on his bed as he stretched. Taking a moment to enjoy the stretch, Sam then hopped in the shower to get ready for the day. They still had some driving to do before getting to New York but Dean hated to eat in the car so they usually ate before hitting the road.
When Dean returned with food, Sam was showered, dressed and scanning the internet. He had downloaded a few pages that might have information they would need so he could read them while on the road. After eating, they packed up their bags and hit the road.
"So, find anything useful?" Dean asked.
"Maybe, Bobby found an obscure text about a two thousand plus year old Mayan King that was buried with twelve slaves and quite a bit of treasure. The author of the text talked about the usual things: who the king was, what was buried with him, things like that but later added that he had overheard a tomb worker talking about the curse he had heard from one of the workers that mummify bodies." Sam shared.
"So we are talking about a mummy's curse?" Dean wanted clarified.
"Yes but not the king's curse like so many believe, instead this curse is thought to have come from one of the slave girls that was forced to die with her king. She was quite vocal over not liking the man or wanting to be buried with him." Sam explained.
"Not that I blame her, who'd want to be buried alive? Man, it would suck to be stuck inside with his dead ass." Dean quipped.
"Yes, well, it was supposedly considered an honor." Sam shared. "And she wasn't buried alive, Dean, she was mummified beforehand."
"Honor, huh? Don't sound like no honor to me." Dean stated. "She might well have been buried alive, she wasn't dying from anything." He pointed out.
"True and, well, it's not an honor today, no, but you have to remember we're talking about over two thousand years ago, Dean. If you were picked, it brought honor and prestige to your family." Sam explained.
"Well, she didn't think so." Dean chuckled.
"She didn't and that's why she placed the curse except most will think it is for the King." Sam told him.
"It was for herself?" Dean ventured a guess.
"It was. She wanted anyone who dared to disturb the tomb to be punished as she felt punished." Sam agreed.
"Wait a minute; don't those tombs have warnings on or around them?" Dean asked.
"Most do but not many heed them anymore since most were written to keep the superstitious away." Sam nodded.
"Well, someone should have paid attention to this one." Dean shook his head. If those people only knew what hunters saw on a regular basis, they'd never risk a warning. Not that that stopped the hunters, usually, they still had to gank the bastards but when a warning was given, extra precaution was generally taken.
"Yeah, they should." Sam sighed.

After canvasing for anyone who might have witnessed Medina's death in some way or other, Detective Ryan saw a couple of familiar faces.
"Hey, weren't they at the museum?" Ryan tapped his partner's shoulder.
"Yeah, they talked to the curator and a few others." Esposito nodded when he saw who his partner was pointing at.
"Huh, wonder what they're doing here?" Ryan thought aloud.
"Don't know, why don't we find out?" Esposito suggested as they started walking toward the two men. "Weren't you two at the museum?"
"Hey, yeah, we were, why?" Dean answered as he lowered the trunk down while he positioned himself so the detectives couldn't see what was inside.
"Why were talking with the curator?" Ryan asked.
"We had some questions about the exhibit." Sam answered.
"Really? Mind if we ask where you were four nights ago?" Esposito questioned.
"Let's see, four nights ago we were in Cleveland." Dean answered.
"What's in the trunk?" Ryan prodded when he registered a slight tension in the dark haired one.
"Our luggage, spare tire, usual stuff." Dean answered.
"Why don't you open it and show us?" Ryan moved closer with a raised brow.
"Sure." Dean answered as he shot a look to his brother. He wasn't sure if the false bottom had clicked in place or not. Generally he shut the bottom and then the trunk with normal force to make sure but the detectives had slowed his procedure.
When the trunk opened fully, Dean quietly sighed until he saw the false bottom slowly rising. He only had time to send a look to Sam before they had two guns pointed at them.
"Stop!" Ryan and Esposito yelled.
"Shit! Let's go!" Esposito told Ryan as they ran after the two men.
Dean and Sam ran down an ally trying to outrun the two detectives, knowing they would only fire as a very last resort or were being fired upon. They saw a door to an abandoned building and Dean opened the door just a bit to make it look like they darted in; instead they turned the corner just as Ryan and Espo entered the ally cautiously.
As Ryan and Esposito made their way down the ally, they communicated silently. When they came to the door, they nodded to each other as they slowly pushed it open and carefully stepped in. However, instead of finding the two men they had been chasing, they found something neither could explain…a ghostly figure floating in front of them.
Dean and Sam had waited until the detectives went into the building before slipping back down the ally, quietly and quickly. Once at their car, they shut the trunk and was about to climb in and drive off when they heard a sound they hadn't expected; two manly yells.
"Well, shit." Dean mumbled.
"We have to help them Dean." Sam told his brother.
"They pulled guns on us." Dean countered.
"Like that was the first time we've had a gun pointed at us." Sam reminded.
"Fine, let's go." Dean huffed as they closed the doors and walked to the trunk. After getting what they needed, Dean and Sam headed back down the alley and into the building.
Once clearing the entrance and immediate area, they heard gun shots off to their right. Dean and Sam ran towards the sound and pulled up short when two guns were once again aimed at them.
"Whoa! Easy there!" Dean called out.
"What is going on?" Ryan demanded.
"What is that thing?" Espo followed.
"It's a ghost." Sam answered straight faced.
"A ghost? Yeah, right." Ryan dismissed.
"We could leave." Dean suggested and smirked when the two detectives stiffened.
"You're serious? A ghost?" Ryan asked seriously.
"Yeah, a ghost." Dean stated.
"Okay, how do we get rid of it?" Espo asked.
"You're really buying this?" Ryan turned to his partner.
"Yeah, you're not?" Espo returned and when Ryan just looked at him skeptically, he continued. "Look, I wasn't kidding about my abuela."
"Alright, alright." Ryan gave in then turned to the two men who came in with shotguns and a bag. "Can we even do anything?"
"You? No. Us? Yes." Dean answered.
"It's what we do." Sam clarified.
"What you do? You really…what…hunt these things?" Ryan asked.
"Yes. We're Hunters and take out supernatural nasties." Sam explained.
"That's why you had all those weapons in the trunk." Esposito stated.
"Yes" Sam said as Dean nodded. Before anything more could be said, the ghost appeared and threw several things in their direction before charging the group.
"Move!" Dean yelled as he pushed the two detectives away as he and Sam blasted it with the rock salt shells.
After the ghost disappeared, Ryan asked, "Is it gone?"
"Not for long, here, take these." Dean answered as he handed a crowbar to both of them.
"A crowbar? Seriously?" Espo raised a brow.
"It's iron and will make the ghost disappear when it goes through it." Sam explained.
"Okay, so, what now?" Ryan looked between the two.
"Well, now, you two distract it while we find where it's been buried so we can salt and burn the bones." Dean told them.
"Dean?" Sam gave his brother a look.
"What?" Dean turned to see the look he was being given and huffed, "Fine, blondie, you're with me."
"The name's Ryan, Kevin Ryan." Ryan corrected.
"Whatever, you want to get rid of that thing or not?" Dean asked.
"Hey! We have names, what about you?" Esposito had an edge to his voice.
"Let's not argue, now is not the time. I'm Sam, this is Dean." Sam interrupted.
"Javier Esposito." Espo said
"Chick flick moment over?" Dean asked which made the other three smirk until he spotted the ghost. "Time to move!"
Dean and Ryan kept the ghost occupied while Sam and Espo tried to figure out where the bones may be. After an hour, and close to just leaving, Esposito called out, "I found them!"
"Alright, here, pour salt around them." Sam handed the container of salt to Espo who did as he was told then stood back as Sam poured gasoline on the bones before lighting a match to ignite them, cringing when the ghost let out an unearthly howl. Once the ghost was gone for good, the two pairs met back up.
"You guys do this all the time?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah, pretty much." Sam answered.
"That's why you have a trunk full of weapons." Esposito stated again.
"Yep." Dean agreed as Sam nodded.
"Wow, I never thought ghosts were real." Ryan expressed.
"Ghosts, werewolves, vampires, poltergeist…" Dean started.
"Changelings, Wendigos, banshees, fairies…" Sam continued.
"Woman in White, Specters, witches, Shtriga…" Dean added.
"Chupacabra, ghouls, gorgons, shapeshifters…" Sam was saying before Esposito cut him off.
"Come on, you expect us to believe all those things are real?" Esposito tilted his head in disbelief. He may believe what his grandmother had told him but she had never spoke of such things, not to mention many of the names sounded made up.
"And lots more." Dean nodded.
"Are there more like you? Hunters?" Ryan asked. "I mean, with so many monsters out there, the two of you can't get them all."
"Yeah, there's more like us. We generally work in the background and under the radar." Sam answered.
"So, you what, travel all over the U.S.?" Espo was curious.
"Pretty much, yeah." Sam agreed.
"That's a lot of traveling, man." Esposito stated.
"How do you live? It's not like you get paid or do you?" Ryan prodded.
"No, we don't get paid." Sam answered as Dean added, "Pool, odd jobs…"
"Why don't you guys, I don't know, join up with law enforcement or something?" Ryan wanted to know.
"The two of you saw a ghost and still had problems believing…" Sam trailed off.
"Point." Espo nodded.
"Yeah, there's no way Beckett would believe what we saw." Ryan admitted.
"You got that right." Espo chuckled.
"So what brought you two here if you were in Cleveland? That's a bit of a drive." Ryan asked.
"A friend let us know about the Mummy's Curse and thought we'd want to check it out." Sam answered.
"Wait! You two were Castle's contacts, weren't you?" Esposito asked, it would explain why they had driven so far.
"Maybe, what of it?" Dean crossed his arms over his chest as he stared the two detectives down.
"It's all cool, man. We won't tell anyone." Esposito assured them with a smile.
"Yeah, who'd believe us anyway?" Ryan chuckled. "Hey, did you guys have to help Castle? You know, like you did us?"
"We did, actually. He was cursed by a vengeful Native American spirit in New Mexico." Dean shared.
"Huh, so he wasn't just weaving one of his stories when he told us that." Ryan stated with a thoughtful look.
"Hey, you think Captain Montgomery knows about what these two fight?" Esposito cocked a brow as he turned to his partner.
"Maybe, why else would he say what he did to us?" Ryan responded with a thoughtful look.
"What'd he say?" Sam was curious.
"There is no upside in screwing with things that you can't explain." Esposito shared. "He was getting onto us for pranking Castle by telling us a story of his own. Of course he played it off as the guy died due to the way he lived and ate but…"
"He may, any way for you guys to find out?" Sam wondered and continued when he got looks from the two detectives. "You know, so maybe the normal hunters here could let him know when they're taking care of a supernatural problem, no stepping on toes and all that."
"Hmm, maybe, not sure how we'll go about doing that though." Ryan considered the suggestion.
"Well, you could drop our names and see how he reacts." Dean suggested.
"Why? You wanted or something?" Esposito wanted to know.
"Or something, yeah." Sam sighed. "We were dealing with a shapeshifter who took Dean's likeness to commit a murder."
"Wait, you're the Winchesters!" It finally clicked with Esposito where he'd seen them when he first ran into them at the museum, something that had been nagging him.
"We are." Dean and Sam backed up a bit, ready to run, again, if need be.
Esposito studied the brothers a bit before committing, "It was a shapeshifter?"
"Yeah, it was." Sam nodded.
"Did you kill it?" Ryan asked as he looked between the brothers and his partner.
"We did but he wasn't the only one out there. All they need is a hair or some skin to take the identity." Dean explained.
"We good here, Javi?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah, we're good." Esposito answered, relaxing his stance. "Then I guess dropping your names would be a good indicator."
"So, is Castle in trouble or something?" Ryan wanted to know. They had been pranking the crazy writer but wanted to know if he was in real danger now that they knew another world existed.
"Maybe, we're not sure." Sam answered.
"Has he complained about anything weird happening?" Dean questioned.
"No, although we have been pranking him since he gazed upon the Mummy King." Ryan shared.
"Has he looked at the slave mummies?" Sam asked.
"Not that we know of, no." Esposito told them as he searched his memories.
"Good. We need to take care of the slave mummies; one of them put an actual curse on their body." Sam explained.
"Take care of…you're wanting to do what exactly?" Ryan prompted.
"Gank the bitch by salting and burning her body." Dean answered as if they should have known.
"And we're supposed to just let you do that?" Esposito wondered.
"Well, if you want the killings to end then yes." Sam answered.
"We know there's been mysterious deaths since the mummies were found." Dean shared.
"How do you know that?" Ryan demanded although he was fairly sure he knew the answer.
"A friend told us." Was all Sam would say.
"Uh-huh, this friend know it's illegal to hack into a police database?" Esposito smirked.
"Most likely but he's off the grid so good luck finding him." Dean smirked back. Ash was too talented and paranoid to be caught by the law.
"How many have died?" Sam wanted to know.
"Well, Medinawas killed by a falling gargoyle and Professor Fischer contracted Dengue Fever." Esposito listed off.
"Nicole Graham was reported as being killed by a jaguar mauling outside of the site but we're not so sure of that." Ryan added.
"Why's that?" Sam inquired.
"Because no body whatsoever was found, just bloody clothes." Ryan answered.
"There were a few of the museum employees who died of mysterious and unexplained causes." Esposito shared.
Just then Ryan's phone rang. "Yeah, I see and it's a positive ID? Alright, thanks Lanie."
"What's up?" Esposito asked.
"Lanie was able to identify the mummy that Medina was trying to sell. It was Nicole Graham." Ryan shared.
"Cause of death?" Espo prompted.
"Blunt force trauma to the head which would explain why only bloody clothes were found and no body." Ryan explained.
"Yeah, it would. So who would want to mummify Nicole?" Esposito wondered before his phone rang. "Esposito, yeah, meet you there."
"Beckett?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah, she's figured out who killed Nicole. We're to meet her at the museum." Esposito stated.
"Well, looks like you two will get your chance. Follow us and we'll distract Beckett so you two can take care of the slave mummies." Ryan walked towards their car as Sam and Dean got in the Impala. Before each could close their doors, Ryan called out, "You know, you guys should have our numbers in case you come to New York again."
"Good idea." Sam nodded as he gave Ryan his number and Ryan called the phone to have it in his. Only first names were put in so no one would know who it belonged to.
Twenty minutes later found Ryan and Esposito walking with Beckett and Castle as she explained her conclusion. They made sure to keep everyone's attention away from the two men following them until Sam and Dean slipped down the hall to where the mummies were stored.
After making sure no one was around, the brothers managed to open the sarcophagi holding the slaves, allowing them to fall to the floor in a pile. Sam swept the remains into a center pile while Dean poured salt around the area. Once that was done, both poured gas on the pile and lit a match to let fall, the whole time diverting their gaze until the curse could be broken. After the initial flames started to die down was when the fire alarm went off. Sam and Dean high-tailed it out of the basement before anyone could show up.
Castle was concerned; Beckett was annoyed while Esposito and Ryan sighed in relief, another supernatural problem dealt with. After a thorough search turned up no one, Beckett alerted the department's arson unit to investigate since no murder was done; it was no longer her problem.
Ryan sent a text to Sam's phone letting him know that they were clear so long as they left no trace evidence at the scene. Sam replied with thanks and told Ryan to say "hi" to Castle for them.
