Magic Wukong Stage Part 2

Zero's grip tightened around the hilt of his Z-Saber as he stood in the dimly lit museum hallway. The distant sounds of footsteps echoed through the chambers, bouncing off the stone walls like a mocking reminder of the ticking clock. Iris-his love, his only reason for fighting-was out there, somewhere, a hostage in the hands of Sigma. The thought of her helpless, trapped in the clutches of those who would use her as leverage, sent a surge of anger through him, hotter than the flames of a thousand suns.

He'd failed her once before.

His memory logs are botched, but the image of her dying in his arms after the Repliforce incident haunted him daily, a scar etched into his very soul. The explosion of the Final Weapon, her sweet, pained smile as she passed away—it had shattered something in him, something that had never fully healed. But now, against all odds, she was brought back to life. Alive, but in danger once again.

"I won't fail you again, Iris," Zero whispered to himself, his voice barely a breath.

The distant screech of metal on metal snapped him out of his reverie, and he turned sharply, his saber raised and ready for anything. A sudden crash echoed from deeper in the museum, followed by a guttural growl. Something was coming.

From the darkness, the skeletal form of a massive T-Rex emerged, its mechanical bones creaking and groaning as if lumbered toward him. It's glowing eyes burned with a malevolent, artificial intelligence. Zero narrowed his gaze. This creature was nothing more than a machine, an ornament, but its sheer size and power made it an imposing foe.

"If I must," Zero muttered under his breath, but his words were drowned out by the screech of the T-Rex as it charged at him.

He leaped into the air, evading its crushing jaws by mere inches. The beast's massive tail swung around, narrowly missing his feet as he landed on a nearby pillar. Zero's mind raced. The T-Rex's mechanical body was durable, but it had a weakness-a core system that powered it, hidden deep within its chest. If he could disable that, it would shut down for good.

With a swift, practiced motion, Zero charged forward, his Z-Saber gleaming in the dim light. He dashed toward the T-Rex, its head snapping at him with a speed that belied its size. Zero flipped backward just as the jaws closed with a deafening clang. He somersaulted in midair, positioning himself behind the beast. His Z-Saber slashed through the T-Rex's tail, severing it cleanly in a burst of sparks.

The beast roared in pain, but Zero didn't stop. He moved in for the kill, diving for the vulnerable weak point-the exposed core near the beast's spine. As his saber made contact with the metallic surface, a shower of sparks erupted, and the T-Rex's movements became more erratic.

But then, something strange happened.

The T-Rex began to rebuild itself.

The severed tail reattached with a whirring sound, and the scares Zero had inflicted started to seal themselves, the metal sliding back into place as if the creature had never been inflicted in the first place. Zero gritted his teeth. It was repairing itself, faster than he could destroy it.

"Impossible..." He was ready for another round, "This isn't over yet."

From behind him, the sinister voice of Magic Wukong rang out, carrying an air of smugness.

"Did you really think you could defeat my creation so easily, Zero? You should know better by now. My puppets don't stay down for long!"

Zero turned to face the brown, monkey-like Maverick standing at the far end of the hallway, his staff held firmly in his hands. The creature's purple and gold armor gleamed in the dim light, but it was the malevolent grin on his face that drew Zero's attention.

"You've been making a lot of noise, but all you're really doing is dancing to Sigma's tune," Magic Wukong taunted. "She's gone, Zero. The girl you love... she's never coming back. She belongs to Master Prince."

"Are you done?" Zero asked.

"Hardly," Magic Wukong shrugged, "Why would she ever go out with you? You're the one who killed her brother and her."

"Iris is now alive, your master sought to it."

"True, but for how long? Does she want anything to do with you? Forget about her... She is a lost cause."

Zero's fist clenched. "Shut up!" he roared, his voice filled with fury. He could feel the weight of his emotions surging, threatening to overcome him, but he forced himself to focus. He had no time for Wukong's mind games. The longer he stood here, the further away Iris slipped from his reach.

"Your strength, your conviction—they mean nothing," Wukong continued, his voice mocking. "Sigma will control you, and you'll be nothing but another tool in his endless war. Even if you rescue the girl, she'll be as lost as you are."

Zero's chest tightened. He could feel the virus, like a could shadow, lurking just beneath the surface of his mind, threatening to take control. It was true-he had to always struggle with the weight of his emotions. But he had something now that he didn't have before. Iris.

"You're wrong," Zero hissed, his voice low and dangerous. "I'll never let Sigma win. Not when it comes to her."

With a roar, Zero lunged at the T-Rex again, aiming his Z-Saber directly for its core. The machine recoiled, trying to retreat from his attack, but it was too slow. With a swift, precise strike, Zero pierced through its chest, and this time, the creature didn't regenerate. It collapsed in a heap, motionless.

Magic Wukong's grin faltered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure, raising his staff.

"You're too focused on the wrong thing," he said. "Your mind is clouded with doubt and guilt. You can't save her, Zero. You're nothing without us."

Zero stood tall, his Z-Saber glowing with the intensity of his will. "If that's the case, then I'll cut through everything that stands in my way," he snarled.

Before Wukong could respond, Zero dashed toward him, his body moving faster than thought. Wukong swung his staff, sending blasts of energy towards him, but Zero was faster. With a sudden, explosive leap, he soared through the air, his saber, raised high. He swung downward, and the sharp edge of his blade cut clean through Wukong's staff.

"No!" Wukong shouted, his eyes widening in disbelief as his weapon shattered in midair, its fragments falling to the ground in slow motion.

With his weapon destroyed, Magic Wukong let out a furious cry. "No! This isn't over! I'll—"

But before he could finish his sentence, Zero's Z-Saber found its mark, cutting through the air with deadly precision and leaving no room for mercy. Wukong fell to his knees, clutching at his chest, the power cells draining from his body as sparks flew from his shattered armor.

"I never needed you, Mavericks," Zero muttered coldly as he charged his bluster cannon and fired at Wukong

*BOOM*

The Monkey Maverick is blown to bits by a powerful spectacle of an explosion.

It was over.

Zero stood over the pieces of the fallen Maverick. A Reploids equivalent of the adrenaline was still pumping through his systems, but it wasn't enough to quell the gnawing feeling in his core. Magic Wukong was nothing more than an obstacle, a temporary distraction from the real mission. Iris was still out there, and time was running out.

As Zero turned to leave, he was stopped by the sound of a voice—X's voice—calling his name.

"Zero! Wait!"

X rushed into the room, his armor scratched from his own battles, but his expression was determined.

"Zero, you can't go after Sigma alone. We need to stick to the plan. You know that."

But Zero didn't even look at him. "I don't care about your plan, X," he snapped. "I care about Iris. I played my part in stopping the colony. She's all that matters now."

"Zero, listen to me," X said, taking a step forward. "Sigma's trap is bigger than you think. If you go now, you'll be playing right into his hands."

But Zero didn't pause. His footsteps were firm and resolute. "I don't have time to waste," he said coldly. "I'm saving Iris. No matter the cost."

Before X could respond, Zero was already gone, dashing through the corridor with a singular purpose. His mind was clear now, focused solely on the one thing that mattered: Iris.

X stood in the museum, starting at the empty hallway where his friend had disappeared. He knew what Zero was feeling-he could see the pain, the guilt, and the desperation in his every move. But there was nothing he could say to change his mine. All he could do was follow him from a distance, ready to help when the time came.

For now, though, Zero was beyond reach.

And in his heart, X knew that the price of rescuing Iris might be higher than they were all prepared to pay.

Alia: X, are you okay?

"Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you, Alia."

Alia: No problem I'm always here for you both you know that right?

"Of course!" X smiled.

Alia: Good! I… do miss Iris, though, she was the little sister in my circle. I do look forward to seeing her.

"We will, and she will be safe and sound and with Zero at her side." Alia found herself laughing through the line.

Alia: Yea, let's not give up on these love birds.

"Right!" X grabbed the piece of Wukong's tail for study and punched the coordinates that transported him back to HQ.

A/N: The process of developing this chapter has taken longer than it needs to be, but on the other hand, this chapter came out better than expected, thanks in part to some of our friends! They'll be more chapters of this Iris X Zero fiction in the near future, but in the meantime, we hope you enjoy this chapter.
