Rize's inhuman snarl filled the hospital room as she lunged at Christy, her eyes glowing crimson, her once-fragile body now moving with terrifying speed. Haise barely managed to intercept her, stepping in front of Christy and summoning his kagune with a sharp, instinctive motion. The metallic screech of Rize's claws against his kagune reverberated through the room, and the force of the clash sent a tremor through the walls.
"Kuri, get back!" Haise shouted, his voice edged with panic.
Christy froze at the sound of her old name, her heart clenching. The way he said it—like it was the only thing tethering him to reality—stirred something deep inside her. She stepped back, her hands shaking, her breath coming in short gasps as she watched Haise and Rize engage in a vicious, chaotic battle.
Haise moved with practiced precision, but there was a wildness in his strikes, a force that wasn't entirely his own. Each time Rize lunged, her movements fluid and predatory, Haise's kagune lashed out with unrelenting ferocity. But as the battle continued, Kuri saw a shift in him. His posture straightened, his attacks grew sharper, and his voice, when he spoke, was no longer Haise's.
"Rize," he growled, his tone cold and sharp, unmistakably Kaneki's. "You can't help yourself, can you?"
Rize grinned, blood dripping from her lips. "And you can't escape what you are, Kaneki," she hissed, her voice dripping with malice.
Kaneki's kagune coiled around Rize's limbs like a serpent, tightening until she was pinned to the ground. She struggled, her strength unnatural, but Kaneki held firm, pressing her further into the cold floor. His gaze flickered to Kuri, his sharp features softening for a moment.
"Kuri," he said, his voice breaking slightly. "You have to help me. Use your empathy—shut her down!"
Kuri hesitated, her hands trembling. "I—I don't know if I can," she stammered, her voice uncertain.
"You can," Kaneki insisted, his eyes locking onto hers. "You're the only one who can reach her. Please."
Drawing a deep breath, Kuri stepped forward. She knelt beside Rize, her heart pounding as she placed her trembling hands on either side of her face. The moment her fingers made contact, a rush of overwhelming emotion hit her like a wave. Rize's hunger was all-encompassing, consuming, a void that couldn't be filled. It twisted and clawed at Kuri's mind, nearly driving her back, but she held firm.
Through the haze, Kuri saw something else—something buried beneath the hunger. Rize's humanity. It was fractured, barely there, but unmistakable.
"She was human," Kuri whispered, her voice trembling with the revelation. "It's true. She really was human… But…" Her voice caught as she looked up at Kaneki. "Her hunger for you, Kaneki—it's what changed her back. It consumed her."
Kaneki's grip on his kagune tightened, his expression darkening. "Then she knows how to undo this. Rize," he growled, his voice cutting through the air like a blade. "Tell us where the antidote is."
Rize's laughter bubbled up, low and taunting. "It's in my blood," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "But you'll have to take it from me."
Kaneki didn't hesitate. He shifted his kagune, carefully slicing into her arm to extract the blood. Rize screamed, thrashing beneath his hold, but he didn't relent. Kuri stood frozen, watching as the vial filled with the glowing crimson liquid. Her heart ached at the sight, but she knew it was necessary.
When the vial was sealed, Kaneki rose, his kagune retracting as he turned to Kuri. "It's done," he said, his voice weary.
CCG agents burst into the room moments later, alerted by the chaos. They restrained Rize, hauling her up and dragging her toward the exit. Her eyes locked onto Kaneki as she was taken away, her expression filled with rage and something that almost looked like sorrow.
"You'll never escape what you are," she spat, her voice echoing as she disappeared down the corridor.

Hours later, Haise and Christy sat in silence in a small, dimly lit room. The vial of Rize's blood sat between them on the table, its faint glow casting eerie shadows. Kaneki stared at it, his expression unreadable, his hands clasped tightly in his lap.
"Are you sure about this?" Christy asked softly, breaking the silence. Her voice was gentle, but there was an edge of fear in her tone.
Haise looked up at her, his dark eyes meeting hers. "I need to know," he said simply. "If there's a way back… I need to take it."
He reached for the vial, his fingers trembling slightly as he uncorked it. The sharp, metallic scent hit him instantly, and he hesitated for a moment before tipping the vial back and drinking its contents in one swift motion.
The effect was immediate. Kaneki fell to his knees, clutching his head as his body convulsed. Memories—vivid and relentless—flooded his mind, each one sharper than the last. His hair darkened, the white strands fading back to their natural black, and his body trembled as if shedding the weight of his ghoul side.
"Kuri," he whispered, his voice trembling as tears streamed down his face. "I remember…everything."
Kuri dropped to her knees beside him, pulling him into her arms. He clung to her, his breath ragged, his body weak but undeniably human.
"You're you," she murmured, her voice filled with relief and wonder. "You're Kaneki."
Kaneki nodded, resting his head against her shoulder as the weight of his journey settled over him. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, he felt whole.
Kuri helped him to his feet, and together they stood in the quiet room, unaware of the shadow slipping from Cochlea. Rize was gone, her absence unnoticed as she disappeared into the night, her hunger leading her toward the unknown.
