Horrific Case p2

When Caitlin Food Monster woke up that morning, she squealed in delight at finding her favourite Uncle Nick Torres sound asleep on the couch.

He was soon awake, and Growler and Food Monster got the morning routine done in no time. As they were wanting to take the brand-new evidence in so that Kasie could see if she could find a lead.

"I will see you later princess. And see you both a work, drive safe and Kasie has a copy of the photo."

"Thanks Nick, see you there be safe."

Torres rode out and went a different way, he saw the bike at the end of the street though and hid in a spot where he could just watch the biker.

Growler and Food Monster took a deep breath and gave each other longer cuddles and kisses that morning as a family.

"Right let's do this."

First Food Monster got Caitlin in and then shouted "Hey Gibbs..."

"Yeah coming" he shouted back

"Someone's left something on the windshield."

"Let me get my gloves." He grabbed his crime scene gloves and went out

"What is it?"

"Dunno let's get it to work."

They took a moment and Growler pulled her in for a kiss.

The biker watched and smiled, he then called up his boss "They have it, game on."

Torres waited in the shadows as the biker left the scene and drove out. Nick then joined the traffic as normal and followed as much as he could.

He arrived a little later at work than planned.

"You go home Torres?"

"No sir, sorry I followed our watching biker. He turned off this road here" typing quickly in to the computer and getting it on the plasma.

"That's near the prison."

"I've messaged Kasie to see if she can get the carpark cameras. If he works, there then maybe we have a lead."

"He does, and he has only just started working there." Kasie advised, seeming to appear from nowhere.

"Fast work."

"Thanks, I have also a fingerprint on the photo they left you. So, I am just running that. But bad news is I don't think this is related to the blackmail."

"How?"

"It was a fake letter, it's a joke one."

"That's some sick joke."

"I know. Their friend is devastated, he is another Captain, err let me check." As Kasie got out her phone.

"Yeah, it's a Captain Waverly. He apparently said to his friend that if he ever came in to money he would send them a blackmail letter with the amount of money he would give them."

"But the location."

"Yeah, he was a bit confused last night about that. Said he would be in to explain his side of the story."

"Sounds like we have someone who intercepted this letter and maybe changed the location."

"Uh huh."

A very forlorn looking Captain Waverly walked in a couple of hours later.

"Sorry I am late. I needed to print off everything I thought you would need."

"That's very good of you Captain." McGee advised as Gibbs took the files, without saying a word.

"I just can't believe this has happened; you know. I mean for them to find the letter and all."

"Come let's go to the conference room. Here have some water."

"Are they really all dead Sir?"

"Yes, sorry for your loss. You were close friends?"

"Yes sir, we went to school together then whilst we drifted apart, we suddenly found ourselves both in training."

"This letter Captain?"

"Huh yeah, oh it seems all so silly now. "Taking a sip of water, he took a deep breath and continued.

"It started in training we always said we would try and not make a big deal out of winning any serious money. When we were on shore leave, we always played the lotto or lottery depending on the country we were in. Of course, back then we never won life changing amounts it was a dollar here or a dollar there. But then his wife won one and his family nearly tried to get it unsuccessfully and at the same time some of our command tried to join us. So, as you can imagine after his in laws interfering and we didn't really trust our unit we decided to do this."

He pulled out a copy of the letter template.

"At the time we thought it would be a good way of hiding it in plain sight."

"It looks similar boss, but the wording has changed."

"Charles would have known it wasn't as we both had a copy each and all you had to do was pop in how much you were willing to give"

The captain took a moment. "Oh and at the end we would write down a number that was special to us, if someone guessed it…"

"Any of your unit or his in laws see the letter?"

"Not that I'm aware it was done when we were at mine on home leave, and we popped it in our safes."

Gibbs turned to McGee

"I'll go check those documents."

As McGee left the captain sipped some more water.

"How did it happen?"

"Shot." Which made the captain grimace.

"You will get them sir, won't you?"

"We are leaving no stone..."

"Get them please otherwise I will."

"Thanks for your help, we'll be in touch if we need to know more."

Gibbs left the room; Growler was now hiding his guard was up. After the strange photo left on his truck, a letter that supposedly no-one else knew about was copied, something wasn't right, and he needed to work this one out fast.

Captain Waverly left after giving more detail to Ellie as she went through many of the files.

After escorting him out, she sat back at her desk.

Ordinarily she would be hitting her snack drawer, but not today.

"I hate cases like this, makes me miss my snacks"

Her Growler briefly smirked, but her Gibbs turned to her from his desk

"Don't worry we'll get them. Get anything more out of him?"

"Some of his unit sound well dodgy, so will follow that up now. Oh, and the code was a random program they both used on base. I'll see how many had access to that."

"Good, check his financials, make sure."

"Yes boss" with a smile and now it gave her purpose, she grabbed a soda from her drawer as it felt a little better.

Gibbs didn't want to go down there but he thought he must.

He took a deep breath rubbed his hands through his hair and was about to get up from his desk when his phone rang.

"Yeah Kase I'll be down in a min."

"What er got Kase..."

"A fingerprint, belongs to a Prison Officer Kailey Williams."

Kasie popped the results on the big screen in her lab.

"Where was it?"

"On the photograph, but interestingly nowhere else."

"Not even the envelope?

"Nope nothing. I don't have much on her yet but." as her phone in the lab rang

"Okay McGee I'll send him up." Gibbs turned around

"Apparently a certain prison officer has appeared."

"Really, thanks Kase good work."

"No problem." And clicked off the screen and carried on delving into the many items of evidence.

Gibbs entered the bullpen and luckily for all he was good at playing poker. The lady standing by his desk wasn't the one he had just seen on the screen. But he played his usual of finding out without letting on.

"Kailey?"

"Yes, you must be Special Agent Gibbs."

Shaking his hand

"How can I help?"

"Well, its more of how I can help you. I need to advise you of the photo that you were sent."

"Come please…"

"Boss the director said his office is free he is using the conference room.'

"Thanks McGee."

"Lovely office."

"So, what can you tell me about the photo."

"Well, I just think it may be related to someone in the prison?"

"A prisoner?"

"Maybe I am not sure. I'm assuming your forensics is looking into it."

Gibbs nodded.

"Why was your fingerprint on it?"

"Because I sent it. I am trained to check the post; I noticed one of the guards place the envelope into the post bin before it was checked. Luckily there was a few that hadn't been checked so I waited till he was doing his rounds and well I checked it. When I noticed it was to NCIS and just a photo I thought I would leave you a clue as to where it came from"

"Thanks. Are you able to give us the name of the prison guard?"

"Sure, Prison officer Kaleb Stiller."

"He new?"

"I mean they are all younger than me Agent Gibbs, But yes he is only in his 20s and started out here about 5 months ago, but err I did hear him mention he had been at a prison before, but I don't know where. I don't think there is much else. "

"Anything else bother you?"

"No."

"Thanks for your help, we'll be in touch."

"Of course. Here are my details." Placing a business card on Vance's desk.

Thankfully she had placed it on top of his papers, so he picked it up and she wouldn't have noticed he hadn't touched it.

They shook hands and said goodbye and an agent showed her out.
