The Turner family home was filled with warmth and laughter as they gathered together for Christmas Day.

The newlyweds Julie and Patrick had recently come back from their honeymoon in Bali. Also May had flown in from Hong Kong to join her siblings for the holidays, adding to the joyous atmosphere.

The scent of roasting turkey and freshly baked pies wafted through the air, mingling with the sound of joyful chatter and festive music.

In the kitchen, Carol and Shelagh bustled about, putting the finishing touches on the holiday feast. May, Angela, and Emily—Teddy's wife— lent a hand, their laughter filling the room as they shared stories and caught up on each other's lives.

Meanwhile, Julie and Marianne set the table with care, arranging sparkling silverware and festive decorations to create a beautiful holiday spread.

In the living room, Patrick found himself immersed in a lively game of PlayStation with Michael and Jamie, the sound of their laughter echoing through the house. Teddy regaled Timothy and his brothers-in-law with tales of his last flights piloting the new Boeing 777-300, his own twins listening in wide-eyed wonder and excitement.

Upstairs, Olivia's bedroom was alive with the sound of music as the girls danced and sang along to their favorite holiday tunes, their laughter floating down the stairs to join the festive ambiance below.

As the family gathered around the table for lunch, the atmosphere was one of pure joy and anticipation. Conversation flowed freely as they shared memories and discussed their hopes for the future. Talk turned to the approaching new millennium, and there was a lighthearted discussion about the potential challenges posed by the Y2K bug.

Timothy took a moment to share updates from his work. "So, in the lab, we've been taking every precaution to ensure that our computers and systems are Y2K compliant," he began, his voice carrying a note of seriousness amidst the festive atmosphere. "We've been implementing necessary updates and safeguards to minimize any potential risks associated with the Y2K bug."

Patrick, seated beside Timothy, nodded in agreement. "Yes, it's the same at my law office. We're also taking similar measures to address any potential issues that may arise."

Carol and Julie chimed in with their own insights. "At the hospital, the administration has been very proactive, haven't they Jules?" Carol started.

"Indeed! They've provided precise directions and protocols to ensure that all systems remain operational during the transition to the new millennium." Julie explained, "While we're confident that nothing major will happen, it's crucial to be prepared for any unexpected challenges that may arise, especially in a critical setting like a hospital."

Teddy, who had been listening intently, expressed relief at not having to deal with potential disruptions while flying. "Well…maybe nothing will happen, but I'm glad I won't be piloting a plane that night," he admitted. "I wouldn't want to be at 35,000 feet if something were to happen to the computers. It's definitely reassuring to spend the evening with family instead," he said, sharing a glance with Emily.

Suddenly Angela interjected, "You know, if Dad were here, he'd probably be totally thrilled with this discussion…as he was back when we were kids for the moon landing!"

"He always had a way of making even the most mundane tasks feel like an adventure! Do you remember the sleepover we had that night?" asked May.

"Yes, I do remember! Actually, just Dad and I can say we witnessed the event live!" said Angela.

"Well, from what Dad always told me, I was fully awake as well! But I'm afraid I can't remember!" Julie laughed.

Shelagh smiled, reminiscing about her husband's enthusiasm for the event. "He was like a kid in a candy store during the moon landing. I remember how he insisted on gathering all the family around the telly! Including Julie, even though she was just three months old."

Julie's voice rang out again "Well, how about we all get together on New Year's Eve? I'm sure Dad would have insisted on having another big gathering!" she said, her eyes sparkling with fondness.

"What a wonderful idea, sweetheart!" Shelagh nodded, her eyes misting with emotion. "Your father would surely have loved to share in the wonder and excitement of history being made."

Teddy couldn't resist lightening the mood with one of his trademark quips. "Well, we're in! But you know Dad, he would've insisted on making the Y2K transition a real event. I bet he would have requested special theme props planned for the evening! Like giant glasses with 'Y2K Vision' written on, and hats with little computer chips sticking out!"

The family burst into laughter at Teddy's playful imagination, the tension of discussing their father's absence easing with the shared moment of levity.

After lunch, it was time to exchange gifts.

As the presents were unwrapped one by one, laughter and smiles filled the room, accompanied by exclamations of delight and gratitude.

Julie and Patrick exchanged knowing glances, their hearts fluttering with the joy of their shared secret. With a mischievous twinkle in their eyes, they handed out a beautifully wrapped package and presented it to her mother.

Patrick reached for his wife's hand, his eyes sparkling with anticipation as they watched Shelagh eagerly unwrap the gift.

As the wrapping paper fell away, a hush fell over the room. On the inside, there was a onesie nestled sayingHello Grandma!with two tiny footprints stamped below.

With trembling hands, still in disbelief, Shelagh opened the card she found in the envelope to reveal the image of a tiny ultrasound, accompanied by the announcement"Baby Mullucks due July 2000."

Gasps of surprise and joy filled the room as the realization dawned on everyone. Tears of happiness welled up in Shelagh's eyes as she pulled Julie and Patrick into a tight embrace, overcome with emotion.

Cheers and congratulations echoed throughout the room as the family celebrated the happy news. Julie and Patrick beamed with pride and excitement, their hearts overflowing with love for each other and their growing family.

After coming back home, as Patrick got ready for the night, Julie stepped out onto the patio wrapped up in a blanket, the cool breeze brushing against her skin. She gazed up at the twinkling stars, their gentle glow illuminating the darkness.

As she placed a hand on her still-flat belly, a sense of warmth and anticipation washed over her. She felt a connection to the universe, as if the stars themselves were watching over her.

With a soft smile, Julie closed her eyes and let her mind wander. In her imagination, she could see her father, his kind eyes filled with pride and love. It was as if he was there with her, guiding her with his wisdom and strength.

Julie allowed herself to bask in the warmth of his presence, feeling a deep sense of gratitude for the love that continued to surround her, even in his absence. She could almost hear her father's voice, filled with warmth and affection, as he reacted to the news of her expecting a new life. While he might tease Patrick with a few lighthearted jokes, he would only feel an abundance of love and happiness for her growing family.

And as she gazed up at the stars above, she felt a sense of peace settle over her, knowing that she was never truly alone. She whispered a silent thank you to her father, grateful for his unwavering love and support.

Lost in her thoughts, Julie didn't hear Patrick's approach until he was beside her, his presence comforting and familiar. Without a word, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, and pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head.

In that moment, Julie felt surrounded by love, both from Patrick and from the unseen presence of her father in the stars above.
