After having the power nap, Colle and Beef immediately got back on the move. The darkness-riddled structure doesn't pose an immediate threat due to area in concern being so deep underground. But the issue is whether it could become a problem later down the line...
Colle and Beef are slowly crouching forwards, hoisting their torches in front with their right hand and revealing more of what's ahead, while also placing down blocks of wool beneath them with their left hands, drowning their carefully and lightly-placed footsteps. To the left and the right of them, there's run-down, broken walls, made of cracked, dark bricks. The walls, and the ground especially, are covered in that moss or fungi, whatever the ominously glowing material is.
"Pssst..." Beef quietly hissed to Colle, while pointing to the right with the tip of his torch. His whisper echoes slightly, off into the darkness.
"What?" Colle whispered back, whispering even quieter than Beef.
"There's a chest..." Beef stated in a whisper. He nudges Colle as he uses his torch to point to the right again. Colle notices there is a chest, which is surrounded by walls, also made of those dark bricks.
"No- I just wanna do what we came here to do and then get the heck out of here- I don't wanna spend more time down here than we have to," Colle hissed.
"I'm not leaving until I find something that could be useful to the group," Beef sternly argued back, raising the tone, but still within the 'boundaries' to be called 'whispering'.
"Ugh- fine... but that is the only chest we're looting- I just wanna sort whatever's going on and get out of here as soon as..." Colle quietly groaned with frustration, while also anxious. There could be another of these 'Wardens' lurking about. If Colle could, he would be getting the heck out of here, but he has to make sure Beef's stubbornness doesn't get him destroyed.
"I'll go and loot the chests, you destroy those things that summons... y'know," Beef spoke as if he is in charge and the one who gives orders. He eagerly, but carefully and quietly, rushes to where the chests are. Colle sighs, starting to get slightly mad with Beef.
Colle shakes his head as he begins the process of destroying the slabs with those spikes on the corners, which look like fangs. He surrounds these blocks with wool, then mines the blocks. The wool surrounding the slab, drowns out the block's destruction. Colle then recollects the wool to put in his inventory, and he begins searching for another of these 'slabs'.
(Minutes later)
Colle and Beef met back up again. Beef has finished looting the chest. In the area he spotted the chest, there turned out to be another chest. Those chests alone had almost completely filled his inventory and even his containment unit on top.
"Yeah uh... I uh- I cannot carry anything else- all spaces are full."
Colle sighs in relief. The less chests they have to go through, the smaller the chances are of summoning the Warden again. At least he as well as Beef can continue with the main task.
"We've been navigating for so long..." Colle grumbled in a whisper.
"We've walked down many hallways, stairs and towers- and each time we take a look- the portal thing still looks far-... away..." Colle stammers as he looks up, hoisting his torch up as he he did. The hollow rectangular structure at the top is only 20 or so blocks away. Colle feels more at ease, knowing that they are a step closer at completing the task at hand.
"Do you reckon that we could uh... teleport, within the vicinity of the ruin?" Beef thought, asking Colle for his opinion.
"Come on- we are only a couple dozen blocks away- there must be a way up- what if we summon that big monster again? Are you insane?" Colle questioned.
"Well, if we're forced to fight it... we do have fireballs and lightning on our side. It is only made out of that... fungus stuff, right? We should make decent work of it fairly quickly... I hope," Beef replied.
"You wanna get out if here as soon as like me... I understand... me too." Colle could tell by Beef's tone that he wanted to get our as soon as possible as well.
"We need to set the thing off three times for the creature to come out, right?" Beef double checked.
"Yeah- what are you planning?" Colle asked as he nodded.
"If we teleport up there, on top of that portal frame thing, we'll set the thing off once... then we destroy or at least damage the thing, that'll set it off twice... then we can teleport and book it and then it won't matter if we summon that Warden again," Beef calculated. He had thought about the risks, and calculated it is a risk worth taking.
"Wait a minute- we've got enough blocks of wool to stack our way up there. Stacking up is probably the safest way to go about this," Colle brought up.
"I know- but the more time we spend here, the more likely we will make a mistake and that thing could come out again- I just wanna get out of here," Beef responded.
"Hmm, okay..." Colle hesitantly agreed. He stands close to Beef, who begins summoning lightning, and they both close their eyes, hoping they hear the gargling marbles, followed by that horrifying screech.
Colle and Beef see that they are now on top of the central structure, the rectangular structure that resembles a portal. They also notice that they haven't been blinded. Both of them look at each other in surprise. The timing when they teleport must have been what allowed them to dodge that blinding darkness effect.
"Not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting the teleport to work," Beef shrugged. Colle and Beef have a perfect view of the entire ruin. But even with the perfect view, they can barely see anything, except for the odd patches of blue and orange lava fire, flowing lava and blue torches illuminating different patches of area. Even in the most lit areas, all they can see is the shadow of that specific part of the architecture of the ruin.
"Wait- you weren't expecting it to work- it doesn't matter, it worked and- oh... that's gonna be a problem..." Colle crouches over the edge, and he spots at the bottom is one of those monsters, which Beef given them the name 'Wardens', in the exact spot the Red Steve duo were at before teleporting. They only know it is there, because of the chesr illuminating pulses of turquoise blue light.
"I thought we had to set it off three times!" Colle exclaimed.
"Doesn't matter- it's far away enough to not be an immediate problem- let's damage the portal quickly- I'll work on damaging the structure, you keep an eye on the thing," Beef instructed Colle while beginning to damage the portal before Colle could approve. Beef begins hacking away at the very hard stone brick frame of the 'portal', mining with an iron pickaxe.
Colle summons a fireball at an area 30 blocks away, but 10 blocks away from the Warden. It slumbers as it arches back to turn around, and it drags itself in that direction. Colle continues to summon fireballs, sending them into the ground just a few blocks away from the Warden to lead it away. Colle's fear of heights would've usually come into effect by now, but Colle's new fear, the fear of the Warden, overrides his fear of heights.
A few moments later, the Warden turns back and slumber-walks towards the central portal-looking structure. Colle continues doing what he did to lure the Warden away, but the Warden ignores the fireballs, making Colle stop in confusion and concern as the Warden slumbers back towards their location.
"Hury up! It knows we're here I think!" Colle panicked, and his panic is justified. The Warden knows its prey is definitely around... somewhere.
"Agh- finally broke one of the corners..." Beef sighed as he crouches, catching his breath. The top corner to both his and Colle's right, has been damaged. If the structure is actually a portal, it should no longer be a problem. It took a lot from Beef to mine at the frame. Whatever stone was used to make the frame, it definitely wasn't the regular common stone, it was very tough and well-made stone.
"Let's celebrate later, we've got another issue to solve," Colle issued. He, and now Beef, crouch over the edge at the top of the portal-like structure. Down below is the Warden, not at the bottom of the structure, but at the very bottom. Colle summons a fireball, which lands a few blocks away from the Warden. Down below, at the very bottom, there is nothing but darkness and the illuminating chest of the Warden.
"We can't teleport down- we could barely teleport up here- we could teleport right in front of that thing... we can't even mine our way down, we'll create too much noise..." Beef mumbled with a murmur. They are trapped on top of the frame of the portal-looking structure, and the Warden appears to not be going anywhere. It knows there is something around. It mindlessly wanders around the central portal-like structure. The creature's agitated groans grew in volume and echo, making the surrounding darkness feel just that bit more eerie.
"How... are we... going to get down from here?" Colle scratches his head. While Colle is thinking of a plan, Beef prepares a mini camp, placing a crafted bed for himself and Colle, and surrounding the beds with fences, so they don't roll out of bed and fall down as they get rest.
"It's not worth it Colle. We should rest for now," Beef suggested. Colle sighs as he slowly crouches away from the edge he was just leaning over.
"I just wanna get out of here man..." Colle moaned and yawned as he immediately drags his feet to the red bed he instantly spotted, and collapses onto.
"Me too, but I also would like to get out of here in one piece," Beef responded back.
"I hope Boss and Sharp are doing alright," Colle sighed as he rolls onto his back, looking up at the cave's roof, and sighed. Hopefully by the time they wake up, the Warden we gone, and they can finally leave this place, and block its cave off. The organisms that reside down here must not be allowed to reach the surface.
